FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan On the LightngingClan side of the border, Firestar crouched. Amber eyes fixated on the sunstones, waiting for the signal. A dual-clan effort to rid the section of the valley void of a bager appeared to be going as planned. The only distraction came from the smell of a StoneClan cat among them.
Cobrashadow was his name, Firestar glanced toward him a moment. He seemed capable, they needed sure-footed cats to raid the badger's den once she was flushed out. She trusted the plan created by both leaders and their deputies. StarClan willing, they would succeed.
The signal came twofold. First, a growl echoed from the cavern before a grey and black beast came clawing out of the den. A yowl from Hawkstar alerted the remaining that it was clear.
"Now!" Firestar ordered, sprinting ahead. Despite her recent bout of depression and lack of appetite, Firestar managed to find the strength to the lead the charge. She faltered only a moment when her nose caught the scent of blood. The battle being waged against the female badger would be hard fought. She wanted to spare a moment to ask StarClan to watch over them but no time such time was allotted.
Skirting, using her claws to slow down she drifted almost too quickly into the den. Once inside she was met with three snarling badger cubs. They were only half the size of their mother but still had claws capable of maiming a cat, their jaws were equally as dangerous. Pressing hard against the wall of the den, she snarled and growled in warning. Attempting to push her way to the back, be the driving force to make them leave the den and into the waiting ambush just outside the den.
The cubs matched her snarls with their own, snapping large teeth just inches from her body. She gave a hard strike to the face of one, it's howled in pain before making for the exit. The second was equally sent running with a well-timed claw to the eye. The third remained a challenge.
Now with more space to move about, his claws scraped against the ground. The sound forcing Firestar to flinch. He took that moment to lunge forward, pinning her back against the deepest part of the den. Scrambling to get a hold on him, Firestar yowled in rage, kicking out barely able to make contact.
The plan was falling apart.
In the confines of the den, the badger cub continued to slam her against the rear wall of the den. Each one forcing more air out of her lungs. With the lack of proper breath, she wasn't able to right herself, all she had left to do was continue to struggle. Giving it her all, she clawed and snapped in every direction. But he persisted. On the fourth slam against the den wall, she felt something crack. The fifth it all went black. Slumping to the floor her final breath slipped out in a wheeze. The badger cub satisfied with his win turned to face whoever dared enter his den.

Cobrashadow Beware the Coiled Snake You got your rules and your religion All designed to keep you safe But when rules start getting broken You start questionin' your faith
The handsome Bengal crouched upon the ground, black tail tip twitched almost irritably. Already in a foul mood, the tempermental tomcat was not pleased with the fact he was stuck within a group of nothing but Lightingclanners. His sharp Stoneclan scent poorly outnumbered among the group of four warriors. Scowl upon his features, crooked jaw setting a dark smirk across his maw while a flame burned within his intense green gaze.
The reason for the union between the clan of the moors and the clan of the barrens was due to mutual survival against a bigger threat then their rivalry.
Badgers.
The thought alone almost had Cobrashadow spitting in a foul, loathing motion. In all honesty, the golden and black tom would have been fine with letting Lightningclan deal with the problem, but he also didn't want to miss out on the opertunity for a fight. The bumbling black creatures with white stripes and long muzzles could make for a challange, whether it be cubs of a vicious mother attempting to protect her children. The scars that parted his specific colored pelt were trophies of past victories and stories, something he wore as a badge of pride. Perhaps he'd gain another today as he attempted to raze the badgers from the valley.
He waited for Firestar's signal with impatience, Cobrashadow had managed to be assigned to the group going after the cubs once the mother had vacated the burrow they were hiding out in. He was with Lightningclan's leader, a senior warrior and a fresh warrior who shared the similar bobbed tail of their leader. The tempermental warrior didn't have to wait long until it was finally given once the mother predator came crashing from the set with a snarl.
Muscles rippled underneath the black spotted pelt as the Bengal quickly moved forwards, flat paws launching him towards the quickest cub the fled from Firestar's onslaught as the elder leader quickly dove underground to flush the rest of the badgers into the open and into outstretched claws. Showing off that special Stoneclan ability, Cobrashadow bunched his hind legs mid run and launched himself into the growing form of a black and white cub with a ferocious growl.
Adrenaline coursed through his form crashed into the cub, earning a cry from the beast. Claws sank into it's shoulder blade in an attempt to keep himself from the snapping jaws and flailing talons. He had been told to injure and scare them off, but no-cat here would miss the dumb creature if Cobrashadow were to end it's life before it managed to escape the valley walls. However, a ferocious snarl from inside the den distracted the tomcat long enough for the cub to roll over into an attempt to dismount the disgruntled Stoneclanner, which worked in the badger's favor as it squished him enough to cause the black and golden feline to release his hold.
Having to quickly recover from the air having been driven from his lungs, the warrior had to dodge an claw swipe to avoid having the end of his nose being taken off by long and dangerous talons. A snarl rose within his chest as green pools flared to life with a dangerous glow before Cobrashadow brought his own wide paw downwards, slicing across the cheek of the cub, sending sprays of crimson droplets across the stones as the harsh scent of blood hit the tom's nose.
"One of you better go save your leader!" The tom's voice was gruff and harsh as he snapped loudly, only two of the three cubs had surfaced and Firestar was down in the den by herself. The brief annoyance at her foolish actions cross his mind for a second, unable to send his gaze searching for either Nightstep or Lynxfire's positions as he stared down the cub who's long muzzle was only inches from his. His claws ached to score another wicked blow to weaken the surprisingly resilient predatory so he could swoop in and end it's life, his tail flickered behind him in a methodical movement similar to that of his namesake.
The smirk upon the handsome feline's face increased before a snarl rose within his chest as he darted forwards. A quick dodge from another flying fore-paw from the badger cub and Cobrashadow slipped to the side to rake both sets of sharp claws down the creature's face. It let out a mighty cry of pain as the warrior's claws snagged it's eye, ripping the structure open as blood quickly stained the cheek and socket of the cub. Terror building within it's scent, the young beast flailed about before turning and retreating from the onslaught the Stoneclanner had prepared. A snort of irritation left the tom's nose before he turned to check the status of the remaining cubs.

Sharp yellow eyes were alight with an insatiable hunger as he danced easily about one of the badger cubs. The cubs had been easy enough to lure from the den, drawn forward by the bellows of their mother. Speed was his advantage, paired with his sure-footedness when compared to the clumsy, lumbering cubs he faced. With a snort to himself, he thought briefly how much more interesting this would all be if he'd been put in the group against the mother. She had experience on her side. She would be a challenge, unlike these pathetic, bumbling whelps.
A dark ear snapped back as a gruff voice, belonging to the wretched StoneClan warrior, snarled something about saving their leader. It was then that Nightstep realized Firestar had gone in and stayed in the den to fight the badger cub. With a disapproving growl, Nightstep glanced at Lynxfire and dipped his head. Relinquishing the dumb cub to her, seeing as Cobrashadow was rolling about with the second, Nightstep peeled off and vanished into the dim lighting of the badger burrow. He didn't need his eyes to determine who was winning this battle: the badger was growling up a storm, and the scent of blood was overpowering.
Lowering himself into a steady crouch, he closed the distance between himself and the unsuspecting cub. In one smooth motion, he snapped his teeth down on one of its hind legs and yanked, pulling it from underneath the badger's body. In a roar of pain, the badger threw its head up, jaws opening and releasing what he assumed was Firestar's body. The lack of another breathing rhythm told the tuxedo LightningClanner that their leader had lost another life today. He had little time to consider the bob-tailed leader's fate, for he'd sufficiently pissed off the creature.
The beast wheeled about to face him, but Nightstep's superior speed allowed him to put enough distance between them with one bound that the badger's blow landed on nothing. Muscles bunched briefly before releasing the stored energy, propelling Nightstep to the badger's left. Before long, the dark-coated tom was behind the cub once more, much to the frustration of the bellowing beast. Claws ripped into the thick fur, just managing to tear open the vulnerable skin beneath. His stocky opponent stumbled, the wounded hind leg unenthused about taking any weight as blood oozed from the new gash. Another snarl erupted from the cub's mouth, not that Nightstep particularly cared about its distress.
Leaping onto its back, he sunk his claws into the dense fur of its shoulders to secure his place. Despite it's apparent stupidity, the cub was smart enough to realize this was not a good predicament to be in. Its anger turned to something more akin to distress, and it shook its broad shoulders in a desperate attempt to shake the tuxedo tom. "Come on, whelp. What are you going to do about it?" He sneered, seconds before biting down on the thing's neck.
This was enough to cause the short-legged beast to roll, the momentum all the warning Nightstep needed to tell him he should jump from his perch. Landing neatly a few tail lengths away, the tom was back at the cub's side before it could right itself. Dodging snapping jaws and flailing paws, the battle-hungry senior warrior hopped onto the downed badger's stomach. Had the cub been any larger, this would have been a difficult task. But, given it's youth, Nightstep was just heavy enough to make getting back up a struggle for the badger. That, and it's short legs did little but annoyingly scrabble against his shoulder as it tried to swat at him.
Shifting his weight to his hind legs, Nightstep purposely dragged his claws down the soft skin of its belly. This prompted a shrieking squeal of agony from the beast as warm blood pooled from its belly, soaking into Nightstep's paw fur. Writhing in further desperation, the badger managed to dislodge Nightstep, even causing the tuxedo tom to stumble a moment. With a snort, the senior warrior steadied himself, eyes narrowing in another sneer as the thrashing badger scrambled to its paws. The scent of blood bloomed to life once more as gravity did its job, the crimson liquid seeping onto the ground from the cub's bleeding belly.
Faced with the tuxedo demon, the badger attempted to flee, turning toward the entrance and clumsily staggering toward the light above. "Not so fast." He hissed under his breath, a ferocious glint behind his unsettlingly bright gaze. Leaping forward, he crashed into the badger, slamming it into the side of the den and burying his fangs into its neck. Another howling cry ripped through the closed quarters of the badger set, deafening as it was exhilarating to Nightstep. No amount of thrashing would get him to release this beast now; he could feel the proximity of the kill, and a familiar fire in his chest burned in what could only be described as yearning.
Howls turned to a choking sputter as the badger's blood began dripping into the senior warrior's mouth. Tightening his hold, he could hear his blood roaring in his eardrums as adrenaline coursed through him. It had been far too long since he felt this alive. In fact, the last time he had, an arrogant StoneClan warrior had died beneath his claws. Not that StoneClan had ever found out it had been him. An accident, surely. A slip, a fall.
Lips curled into a smirk as the noise within the den faded with the blood filling the cub's windpipe. Before long, the beast went limp in his hold. Releasing the body and spitting out the metallic-tasting liquid in his jaws, he straightened with a snort. Glancing toward Firestar's still unconscious form, the LightningClan senior warrior rolled his shoulders in a shrug. She would wake up in her own time, now that danger in the den was minimum. With pupils no larger than a claw mark amidst the vibrant yellow of his eyes, he set his course for the open world once more. Let's see what progress they made. He sneered silently. |

LynxfireLynxfire was more than looking forward to this; badgers were bad news and she was happy to be part of the group going to chase them off. She was less pleased that it was StoneClan she was working with, but that, she supposed, couldn't be helped. Firestar seemed willing to work with them and so they were. Her mother had tried to put her in the group of chasers, but a disbelieving look had changed that plan. No way was she going to sit back and let others do the fighting; she was diving right in with them.
And she had; the StoneClan tom had gone for one of the cubs and Lynxfire went for the second, launching herself at it with a flurry of swipes before ducking a heavy paw that scored one ear. Retaliating with a slap to the cub's black nose, the tabby reveled in its squeal of pain and then darted around the back of it and sank her teeth into one furry back leg. She sensed it lunging at her and tried to scramble away- a second too slow, the badger's jaws snapping shut on a mouthful of fur that ripped away from her flank.
"Yow!" she screeched, and whirled back to rake both front sets of claws down the long muzzle. "StarClan-cursed piece of foxdung! I'll make you regret that! I'll..."
"One of you better go save your leader!"
Distracted, Lynxfire turned to the StoneClan tom and then flashed a glance toward the set. She hadn't realized until now that there was no sign of her mother among them, and fear was a sudden cold weight in her belly as she sprang back from the badger and then threw herself at it, bowling it over and leaving it to the ones who were supposed to be chasing them off as she leaped for the entrance of the den. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the dimness inside, but when they did she couldn't help the yowl that broke free of her. "Mother!"
She took a step forward, eyes widening at the sight of blood pooled under the calico's head and the stillness of her body. Was she losing a life? That had to be it. That was all. Jerking backward, Lynxfire's green gaze swept over the fighting pairs before settling on the ones she was looking for. "Medicine cat! Get over here, you're needed!"
She didn't know the black apprentice's name. Didn't care. Crawling back into the den, settling close to Firestar, she couldn't help a tremble. Firestar couldn't be dead- not permanently. It was too soon. "Not yet," she whispered in the moment before Ebonypaw pushed into the set. "Come back, we still need you."

Cobrashadow Beware the Coiled Snake You got your rules and your religion All designed to keep you safe But when rules start getting broken You start questionin' your faith
The Stoneclan warrior turned his claws and attention towards the remaining badger cub outside of the set they had been vacated from so rapidly. Both Lightningclan warriors had slipped inside the den once he had called out only what seemed like moments before, Nightstep the first to go down with the loud sounds of snarls and yelps coming from whatever he was fighting down underground. Lynxfire was quick to join her senior clanmate, after knocking around the cub she had been preoccupied with at first.
A vicious snarl rose from the Bengal's throat as temperamental tomcat leap confidently towards the remaining tuxedo predator, that Stoneclan ability pumping through his hind legs. Sharp claws dug into the haunches of the cub, yanking it backwards as it too tried to return back to it's nest where the last cub and all three Lightningclan warriors were currently. A squeal of both surprise and pain parted from those long jowls before it turned to try and snap at the green eyed tomcat.
"I don't think so beast." Cobrashadow's gruff tone was dark and low as he growled dangerously towards the young cub. His body was tense as the slightest of fur stood along his shoulders, muscles rippling underneath his golden and spotted pelt while his tail methodically snaked around behind. Green gaze was like an emerald fire as he stared down his opponent, currently unconcerned with whatever may be happening with Firestar and the other distasteful Lightningclanners.
There was a flicker of his ear when he heard the sharp yowl from who he assumed was Lynxfire, calling for a Medicine Cat from down inside the den. Catching the scent of the young apprentice before spotting her, Cobrashadow charged at the badger cub again to divert it's attention from the approaching she-cat who also bore a strong Stoneclan scent, mixed with that of herbs and ointments.
Avoiding the snapping jaws of the badger cub, Cobrashadow raked his claws down it's side before dodging out of the way of a black nose and sharp fangs. The badger's foul breath entered the tomcat's nose and mouth, practically over flooding his pallet before the golden and black warrior quickly slammed a flat paw against it's cheek with a hefty blow. He was satisfied by the squeal he earned from the cub, forcing it backwards towards where a group of cats waited to chase it down along with it's remaining fleeing sibling.
I have a voice that is my savior Hates to love and loves to hate I have a voice that has the knowledge Ebonypaw, Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams She had been waiting, hidden away from the action with her mentor as they stood far from the stones of battle. Her ears twitched as the young she-cat remained rather calm, pale green gaze watching as each group of cats moved on time depending on when needed.
A bundle of needed supplies and herbs were waiting patiently next to both her large paws and Sandblaze's. The worry was evident within his gaze as he kept a steady watch on Hawkstar's aging form. This would prove to be a difficult battle from the figurehead of Stoneclan.
Was she nervous? Hardly, the young apprentice was ready to put what she had learned to good use. Not that she would have wanted it a less violent way, but a badger fight was as good as any for wounds and pains. At least it wasn't another skirmish between Stoneclan and Lightningclan this time.
Her ear flickered again, attention captured when a yowl sounded from where the set was. Ebonypaw had kept a glancing eye over Cobrashadow, seeing as he had been the only Stoneclanner within the group attacking the cubs, but he didn't seem to be in need of assistance.
Another cat was calling though.
Shaking her nub ever so slightly, the young black she-cat gently grabbed her bundle and bounded down towards where the yowl had come from. Sending a silent thanks to her clanmate, who kept the final badger cub from noticing her arrival, Ebonypaw quickly slipped underground.
The first thing she noticed was the overwhelming scent of blood, luckily with the smelly herbs within her jaws the iron scent didn't knock her off her paws. Pale green pools adjusting to the dimness, she made out the shapes and shadows within the set.
Nightstep was standing over the deceased form of the final badger cub, blood splashed over his white paws though Ebonypaw was pretty sure it was the badger's and not his. Lynxfire was hovering over the still and silent form of Firestar, the elder leader had blood pooling from under her head as well as scrapes and tears along her calico pelt.
Wide, flat paws brought the young she-cat forwards. Foregoing the proper greetings for those around her, Ebonypaw set down her bundle before sniffing over Firestar's form, noting that she was more than likely in the middle of losing a life. Even though she couldn't do much, as her fate was currently in that of Starclan's paws, that didn't mean Ebonypaw could keep a watchful eye as she recovered.
She'd probably be weak and exaughsted the moment she returned, luckily Ebonypaw and Sandblaze had brought along strengthening herbs, in case any of the older cats were met with serious problems, such as Firestar or Hawkstar losing one of their remaining nine lives.
"She'll be fine..." Ebonypaw said after a moment, she had checked over the Lightningclan leader for anything that Starclan may not have the power to immediately heal. No limb looked out of place and nothing look maimed or disfigured, so she could only give a vote of confidence and hoped that pacified the young warrior who was practically pacing the set.
