Wasp-paw jolted awake, his eyes blazing with excitement. Finally, he would be doing something other than just sitting around the camp trying to keep himself entertained. Today, he would be learning that was actually useful: what his home looked like outside of the camp. The young bengal got up and stretched before peering out of the apprentice den and surveying the camp. Before long, he spotted a skinny white cat sitting in the clearing. Storkleg. 

Wasp-paw huffed. He had heard that Storkleg was rather odd about physical contact and would shy away from others. Wasp-paw rolled his eyes; he had no idea why it was that Storkleg was weird about it, but he was determined to pester him about it. With a sly smile, Wasp-paw slinked out of the apprentice's den and made eye contact with his new mentor, a defiant look in his eyes. He paused about a tail's length from Storkleg (the other apprentices had told him to not get too close), but Wasp-paw wouldn't let the slender white cat off that easy. With a mischievous smile, he flicked his tail towards Storkleg, not quite touching him, but still pushing the boundary. 

"So excited to get close with you during training." Wasp-paw jeered, starting to walk towards the camp entrance before turning back and looking at his mentor.

Storkleg watched as Wasp-paw approached, unable to help a constant flick of the tip of his tail at the younger tom's tone. He didn't mind company, and he had truly enjoying teaching Larkflight, but he had a bad feeling that this apprentice wouldn't be nearly as easygoing as the she-cat had been. Which was a shame, but he supposed the differences in personality were to be expected.

Rising to his paws, Storkleg padded after Wasp-paw, sighing under his breath and quickening his step, veering around the younger tom and averting his head before ducking through the camp entrance and breaking into the open again. He didn't stop, trying to keep a step ahead of the tabby; a quick, easy jump spanned the small stream that surrounded the camp and then he was off to the StoneClan border. "You'll never have scented StoneClan before," he called over his shoulder. "Commit their smell to memory, okay? The scentline's just up here- it should be fresh, the dawn patrol would have marked it."

Pausing a short distance from the markers, Storkleg took shallow breaths; who knew what he might pick up if he went and stuck his face against the plants bearing the strong marks from the rival Clan? He'd rather not find out. "StoneClan hunts rabbits and birds, mostly. Their paws are toughened by walking over stones, and they're impressive leapers." A glance toward Wasp-paw as he tried to read the younger tom's expression, wondering if he was bored by the explanation of their neighbors or intrigued.

Wasp-paw chuckled at Storkleg's apparent annoyance with him. However, despite his strong desire to
mess with his mentor, Wasp-paw was really excited to learn about the territory and other clans so that one
day he could single-handedly fight off an entire patrol of enemy cats. The thought of his future heroism
put a pep into the bengal's step, causing him to bounce on behind his strange mentor. 

Just like that, the two cats had reached the Stoneclan border. Wasp-paw opened his mouth to taste the
scent, then recoiled at the smell of earth and dryness. It was so starkly different from the Rainclan scent
the young apprentice had grown so used to. However, this unique smell was so odd that Wasp-paw wanted to
continue smelling it. He shoved his face into a bush, full absorbing this otherworldly scent. As he took his head out
of the bush, Wasp-paw noticed that Storkleg's breathing had become more shallow. The bengal shrugged --
he figured his white mentor was simply having an episode. I'll remember this for later. 

Before he knew it, Wasp-paw found himself assaulted with a barrage of facts about Stoneclan. While it
was interesting to learn about other clans, it did not seem necessary to know because Rainclan was clearly
the most superior. "Their hard paws and heavy legs must make them terrible swimmers. We could
take them if they ever got the guts to attack us." Wasp-paw stood erect, as if to show Storkleg how
great of a fighter he was (despite having no experience whatsoever). "I would be surprised if any of
them have brains bigger than the birds they eat." Already bored by Stoneclan's border, Wasp-paw
impatiently cocked his head, ready to see more of Rainclan's vast territory and the other clans' borders.

A quiet frown marred the white tom's face as he watched Wasp-paw shove his muzzle among the leaves of the bush that was drenched in StoneClan scent. His ears flicked back and he glanced away; his frown remained at the words his apprentice gave about the other Clan. True or not- in battle, either side could win. "Perhaps. But those hard paws and heavy legs also are put to good use in fighting. When we start battle practice, we'll cover that more. Come on, let's keep moving."

There was no flicker of amusement at the insult, no snort of laughter. Just concern. Bravado was good, really, but Wasp-paw was still young and not very large. In agility he would likely have the upper paw against a bigger opponent, but all it would take was a single good blow and he'd be defenseless. "Don't underestimate them without knowing them," he warned, padding on. "StoneClan might not swim like we do, but on land they are an even match. Remember that, Wasp-paw." He would get a better idea, surely, if he saw a StoneClan cat. At his first Gathering, perhaps, he would gain some respect for their neighbors.

Storkleg's words stuck into Wasp-paw's head, but of course the young bengal would never let his mentor
know that. Wasp-paw scrunched his nose as he tried to imagine a clan full of massive cats that could cause
serious damage to his clanmates. No one will hurt Rainclan on my watch. Already, Wasp-paw felt himself
growing more and more excited for his eventual battle training. Slowly but surely, Wasp-paw found himself
hanging onto the words of his white-furred mentor who knew quite a lot about the other clans.

Of course, Wasp-paw refused to give his mentor the pleasure of knowing his apprentice was interested in the
things he said. However, he still had his burning questions that just had to be asked. "Do other clan cats 
ever eat fish?" Of course, his burning questions did not have to be good questions, but Wasp-paw had
been wondering that from the moment he had begun to see the borders and little water Stoneclan's territory
seemed to have. Wasp-paw had his fishy diet to thank for his sleek and shiny coat -- the other clan cats must
have ugly fur. They'll be easy to spot. "Do you think we will get to see a patrol?" And under his breath
he added, "to gage the enemy."
