Hawkstar
may your dreams be larger than mountains
Centering himself on the overhang of the Rock Pile, a shaft of brilliant Newleaf sun warming his pelt, Hawkstar let his eyes fall on his mate. Frozenrain had been given advanced warning, so she might make any necessary preparations. And, judging by the disgruntled look on their daughter Minkpaw's features at having her pelt groomed instead of being out training, it seemed to Hawkstar that Frozenrain's mission had been a success. A smile twitched at the edge of Hawkstar's graying muzzle as he lifted his head and let familiar word tumbled from his jaws into the air around StoneClan.
"Cats of StoneClan! Let all those old enough to scour the terrain for prey gather here beneath the Rock Pile for a Clan meeting!"
Called forth by his voice, warriors and apprentices alike began filtering from the various nooks and crannies of StoneClan. He'd grown accustomed to seeing the Clan gather in such a manner. In fact, just last season, he'd had the honor of performing a similar ceremony. Now, he was sure the pride he felt was written on every feature, from the tilt of his muzzle to the set of his shoulders. Shifting his weight to ease the age-induced stiffness in his haunches, he waited until multiple sets of eyes turned upon him before continuing.
"Minkpaw, step forward." His voice filled the space with ease, still as powerful for moments like this as it had been when he was much younger. Meeting his daughter's blue eyes, he waited for her to settle before continuing. "Both Eagletalon and Frozenrain have worked to train you these last few moons, passing on their boundless knowledge and experience. You have faced many challenges, and under their care, you have persevered. As such, I, Hawkstar, leader of StoneClan, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn."
After pausing briefly beneath a swell of pride, Hawkstar continued. "Minkpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" Waiting for a confirmation from his daughter, he met pale blue eyes with his pale amber ones. When her confident voice recited words he'd heard many a time from his current post, the tom's voice picked up once more. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Minkpaw, from this moment you will be known as Minkfire. StarClan honors your passion and your determination, and we welcome you as a full warrior of StoneClan."
As the Clan erupted into a chant of Minkfire's new name, the StoneClan figurehead joined in. His old bones momentarily forgotten, the broad-shouldered tom descended from his perch with youthful energy. Padding toward his daughter and watching in mild amusement as cats parted to let him through, he slow to a stop before Minkfire, pride glittering in his gaze as he grinned warmly. "Am I permitted a congratulatory rasp of your ear, or are you beyond that now, Minkfire?" He let her new name roll off his tongue, a deep purr rumbling in his throat. Lowering his voice slightly, he added. "I am proud of you."
