Leafbare 25, 6
A full moon hangs over the valley. Mostly sunny but still hard to traverse without getting your breath taken away by the wind. The night still has a strong wind but the sky is clear of clouds, the moon shines brightly. The leaders have arrived and their chosen clanmates have dispirsed into the gathering space.
The group is solem, Firestar appears unkept and out of place, her body is thin and almost frail. As if the slightest wind could knock her over. She walks with heavy pawsteps and the journey from their camp to StarClan Claw's was quiet and held very little excitement. The death of her mate has broken Firestar. Her youngest kits travel with her and a few older Clanmates who knew Russetfall well. The feeling of loss is heavy in many of their hearts. Upon their arrival at the gathering place, Firestar will climb unpon the leader's rock and make no gesture of greeting. Instead she stares longingly at the sky, waiting for it all to start.
Attending with her is: Redscar, Kindleflare, Tigerpaw, Nightstep, Eaglescreech, Robinflame, Larkfeather, Cloverstreak, Sparkpaw, Lynxpaw and Windpaw.
Despite age silvering its leader's muzzle, StoneClan arrives with heads held high. Much has been lost in the passing moons, but together they have persevered. Hawkstar is slower than usual climbing the stones to the leaders' perch, but his footing is as confident as ever; he has not given up fighting. Pale amber eyes glance toward Ebonypaw, seated at Sandblaze's side, as he takes his spot among the other leaders. StoneClan cats fill the spaces in the clearing, expressions a mixture of cautious hope and fond reminiscence.
Attending with him: Smokestorm, Sandblaze, Ebonypaw, Cobrashadow, Wolfjaw, Ravenshade, Hawkfall, Speckleblaze, Palepaw, Minkpaw and Snowpaw.
RainClan is somber, its leader visibly protective over their medicine cat and warriors formed into a protective circle around her. With Swanfeather dead and Dewfrost far too new to her position to start training an apprentice of her own, Silverstar is on high alert and determined that nothing is going to get to their remaining healer.
Attending with him: Lilygleam, Dewfrost, Morniningstorm, Frogchaser, Briarsong, Russethawk, Willowbreeze, Gorgeleap, Owlpaw and Larkpaw
High off their victory, Briarthroat's crew charges in with renewed pride. He leads the group though, Foxstar nowhere in sight, not kept at home from the battle but from the illness that continues to sap away her strength. The deputy puts on a brave face, but those who know him recognize he is worried about filling paws that haven't even chilled from Pinewhisker's rule. The chosen cats did not join in taking their land back, lest fights break out among the two clans
Attending with him: Smokefur, Shadowchaser, Hollystorm, Sunpulse, Lilyfrost, Darkstorm, Blossmpaw, Mousepaw, Acornpaw and Charredpaw
Though last to join the Gathering, Lionstar leads TreeClan in with a confident stride unbecoming of the losers in the most recent territory clash. Despite the outward calmness, there is much on his mind tonight. It looked as though TreeClan would be speaking last. He greeted the other leaders with a quiet 'good evening' and took his place at the rock. It was only a small consolation that Foxstar was noticeably absent. Lionstar inwardly seethed, gazing out at the smug faces of the gathered NightClan cats. He would have to trust Gorsetail to keep TreeClan under control on so volatile a night.
Attending with him: Gorsetail, Falconstorm, Almondnose, Berrythorn, Timberfrost, Foxfire, Pumafang, Hemlockpaw, Adderpaw and Cliffpaw

FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan At Lionstar's arrival, Firestar felt no desire to wait. The sooner she spoke the quicker the other leaders would and she could go home. Back to her den where she could be alone. Away from prying eyes, hide herself to avoid looks of pity. Tragic as it was for Firestar to lose her one true mate, concern had grown in her clan. Her pelt dull, her amber gaze similarly dim. Grief-stricken and hollow, Firestar's skin stretched almost painfully tight across her bones. Not that she appeared to care.
Forcing a brave face, she drew the attention of gathered cats with her sweeping gaze. Her attention didn't settle on any one cat, fatigue made it hard to focus. An effort to clear her throat almost made her cough but she barely managed to cover it up enough to speak.
"LightningClan has very little to report. We continue to remain loyal to each other and to our way of life. We have many apprentices who will soon earn their warrior names. In our triumph, we also have a tragedy. A warrior known to a few of you has joined StarClan, Russetfall is now looking down upon us from Silverpelt. With his blessing we look forward to the Newleaf season and to the prey, it will bring," She made no mention of her treaty with TreeClan. A choice to avoid publically allying LightningClan with TreeClan to ensure her Clan wouldn't be targetted. She could not bear the thought of red stained snow.
Returning to her space back with the waiting leaders, Firestar again looked upward toward the sky. Was he looking down at them? Was he proud she found the strength to walk so far from their home to speak words to cats that didn't know him as she had? She wanted a sign but all she felt was the cold wind against her cheek and a longing in her heart for his touch.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains LightningClan was first to move. Amber eyes watched Firestar with subdued curiosity as she wordlessly stepped forward to begin the Gathering. With a glance toward Lionstar, the StoneClan figurehead pivoted his ears to better catch the voice of the LightningClan leader as she began. The first piece of her announcement surrounded usual pleasantries: in fact, he was going to share something similar when he spoke. It was the second piece that caught him by surprise. Although Firestar tried to mask it with neutral words and tone, Hawkstar knew Russetfall had been someone important to her. Losing a mate was no easy event.
A sand-colored tail curled over large paws, the tom subduing any form of comfort he might want to extend to Firestar. StoneClan's figurehead figured he was the last cat she wanted to talk to in her time of grief. Keeping his gaze upon the gathered cats, Hawkstar bowed his muzzle slightly to pay silent respect to the tom who's absence was certainly being felt in LightningClan at such a time. He did not miss the outward indications of her sorrow, though he made sure not to let his focus linger upon the unkempt coat and defined ribs.
As Firestart stepped back, the big tom glanced among the other leaders questioningly, and when no one seemed to have any objections, he moved forward to speak. "StoneClan has pushed through this Leafbare well. We too have many apprentices near the end of their journey. They might yet join us next Gathering as fullfledged warriors." His gaze lingered briefly on his two daughters, a small smile twitching his silvered maw. Despite his age, he stood tall upon the ledge, his patient gaze calm and sure. "It is also my pleasure to introduce StoneClan's new medicine cat apprentice. Sandblaze has agreed to take on Ebonypaw as his apprentice, and she has eagerly set herself upon a new path in life. We look forward to see her excel in her role as Newleaf brings with it further changes."
With a dip of his head, the StoneClan figurehead stepped back, returning to his spot and opening the way for the next leader who chose to speak. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Justice | table by phoenix

Silverstar watched the other leaders, feeling concern over the thinness of Firestar though he said nothing. RainClan was neutral towards the other clans for the time being, a fact the other clans couldn't claim towards one another. He hadn't known the tom she spoke of, but felt pain all the same at his passing for what it was doing to her clan. Losing a clanmate was never easy, and well he knew. When his time came to speak he did so clearly, no longer so painfully awkward among all the other leaders now that he had a few moons behind him in the position. "RainClan has many apprentices training towards their warrior names. As leafbare often brings hard times, this leafbare has seen our medicine cat Swanfeather join StarClan, her apprentice Dewfrost has taken up her mantle and will continue to provide for the care of RainClan for moons to come." These times speaking were always so awkward to him. After all, what did he say? He felt he'd done well, and no longer questioned his words or his actions in front of the other leaders. He certainly wasn't going to tell them that one of RainClan's own had slain their medicine cat, nor that he had banished said cat and now feared for the safety of his daughter who was left as their sole healer. He carefully went back to sit with the other leaders, taking a deep breath and silently thanking StarClan he hadn't slid right off the rock again this time. Small mercies. williams

Briarthroat's heart pounded in time with the words said by the other leaders, nerves that refused to settle. He sat opposite of Treeclan, purposefully done. It seemed to be a good decision too when Lionstar signaled for the deputy to speak before him. Starclan help me, He sighed with an internal weariness bunching his shoulders. Fights never fared well for future circumstances, and he only hoped Foxstar would stay around long enough to work with him on a plan for how to manage it. The politics of leading was something the deputy had yet to grasp, not that he particularly wanted to if it turned him cold as the posture Treeclan's leader had towards him tonight. While Nightclan was not known for soft hearts, Briarthroat knew his would get him in trouble some day. It already had perhaps, when Blackwolf led the first battle without waiting. The tom stood fluidly after Silverstar, recognizing Lionstar's pause as an invitation. His voice, often soft around camp, was strong tonight. He was standing in for his leader after all. He would no disappoint her. "Nightclan is faring well this season with strong apprentices and warriors filling our ranks. We have returned the Deer Path to our land, and will be monitoring for any cats straying over the new marks." He paused here, eyes softening as he looked across at the other leaders. Any victory worth its weight should not have death involved, yet here they were. He could see the price of something similar in Foxstar, the loss of her love, and in Silverstar, a lost medicine cat a harsh blow to any clan. "Similar to those before me, Nightclan has lost our warrior Blackwolf. He died as he lived, valiantly supporting Nightclan with his strengths. May all our parted souls shine bright on tonight's gathering." With that he stepped back, nodding at Lionstar to speak his piece. -- Fawn

Lionstar The crown is getting heavy But they've written my name in the stars It was a gathering of peace, but that did not mean politics had no place here. From Firestar's deliberate neglect to mention LightningClan's deal with TreeClan to share the open woods, to Briarthroat's almost casual remark about the deer path, as if it had been as simple as retrieving a piece of buried prey. Lionstar's tail curled and uncurled, the figurehead allowing himself this one open display of irritation. When Briarthroat stepped back, Lionstar was already on his feet, taking a squirrel-length forward to address the assembled cats.
Before he played his own game of politics, Lionstar bowed his head to Firestar, wanting to be known for civility and mindfulness - even when his thoughts were full and his claws ached for less diplomatic solutions. "My condolences. I'm sure the loss of Russetfall and Swanfeather are being felt throughout the valley."
Was it petty of him to leave out Blackwolf?
The golden tom called to mind the bloodied patchwork of scratches and battle wounds on his son in the aftermath of the deer path battle. Blackwolf had been a fierce warrior - but a disrespectful, cruel and bigoted one as well. NightClan could honor him all they liked; he would get no such acknowledgment from TreeClan.
"TreeClan finds itself once more flush with young warriors eager to serve their Clan this leafbare. We have experienced peace and violence in equal measure, and though our scentlines have shifted, we remain strong. Even stronger, now that we have excised a small infection in our Clan; the cat known as Magpiewing proved himself dangerous and disloyal. He has been exiled to the mountains. Should any Clan choose to take in the rogue, regardless of diplomacy between us, this will be seen as a slight against TreeClan."
Lionstar ignored the ripple of murmurs coursing through StarClan's Claws, and this time addressed Briarthroat directly, voice noticeably cool. "Tell Foxstar to enjoy NightClan's victory while the season lasts. I hope NightClan has buried some of its arrogance along with the dead."
With that none-too-subtle statement, Lionstar flicked his tail to his deputy. "If the other leaders have nothing further to say, TreeClan will take our leave." Before any fights could break out from his inflammatory remark. FIRESTAR leader of lightningclan
Despite her eyes gazing upward, her ears twitched enough to make it known she was listening. StoneClan with a new medicine cat apprentice. Her thoughts drifted to Tigerpaw and wondered for a moment if he was nearing the end of his training. She trusted Kindleflare better then she had Rookfrost and knew the orange she-cat would ensure her son was trained well. Amber eyes scanned the crowd until she was able to see her son's form. She wanted desperately for some kind of connection with her youngest kits. Now more than ever.
News of Swanfeather's passing surprised the calico she-cat enough that her eyes shot toward Silverstar's pelt. She knew the old she-cat, LightningClan owed the success of running StoneClan out of the valley to Swanfeather. She somehow rallied RainClan to join them provided much-needed support. Firestar didn't bother to maintain the relationship but she did admire Swanfeather, rumors aside, she was a she-cat that made the difficult discussion when no one else would.
NightClan was next and yet another death added to the toll. Death had touched every clan, for a strange reason that provided a small comfort. She was not the only one mourning.
Last to speak was Lionstar. The bold statement about NightClan had reminded Firestar of the meeting with Foxstar just a few moons back. The she-cat had intended to recruit LightningClan to their cause, aid in teaching TreeClan a lesson. Oh how the winds have changed.
Lionstar was the first to dismiss himself, Firestar took her moment and stood beside him. Less subtle then she would have hoped for, she put no stock in the happenstance.
"LightningClan shall leave soon as well, the leafbare gathering is over," She called out, voice just as ragged as before. While it might seem rude to call the gathering over, Firestar made no attention to it. It was hardly a gathering with three Clans.
