Hawkstar
may your dreams be larger than mountains
A silvered muzzle pushed out into the open from the relative safety of the leader's den. A cool wind was quick to buffet him as he stepped out, a chill reminder that Leafbare still held the Clans in its grip. Fluffing his short coat against the sudden onslaught, Hawkstar moved forward slowly, but with an assuredness that had come from many moons at StoneClan's helm. Large paws settled at the edge of the Rock Pile, toes pressing into the cold, but familiar stone as his amber gaze drifted over the scene depicting StoneClan's everyday life. With a private smile, he lifted his head and drew himself up to his full height.
"Cats of StoneClan!" Despite aging with every passing day, his voice remained strong as he called to his Clan. "Let all those old enough to scour the terrain for prey gather here beneath the Rock Pile for a Clan meeting!" Almost immediately, ears pivoted in his direction, and paths altered to accommodate a change in schedule. Quiet murmurs passed through the gathering cats, the sand coloured tom letting curiosity spark between the cats he'd led for so many moons. His tail swished slowly behind him as he surveyed, shifting from one forepaw to the other patiently.
Eventually, he could see the vast majority of the Clan, as well as two very important attendees. Amber eyes focused on Petalrain for a moment, and when the she-cat's gaze met his, he dipped his head just so with a smile. Then, despite the fact she would not see it, Hawkstar turned his gaze on Sootpaw and held her unseeing gaze. "Sootpaw," He began, a piece of him swelling with pride as though she were his own kit, voice carrying with ease despite the bursts of wind that would seer through the camp.
"Step forward." He paused a moment, letting the reality sink into her as she stepped forward. "Petalrain, you have worked to ensure Sootpaw learnt all she could from you, and continued pushing despite a somewhat... Rocky start, and even greater challenges along the way. As such, I, Hawkstar, leader of StoneClan, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Sootpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Another hesitation gave her the opportunity to answer. With a smile on his maw, he continued. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Sootpaw, from this moment you will be known as Sootwhisker. StarClan honors your compassion and your resilience, and we welcome you as a full warrior of StoneClan." The Clan was quick to take up the chant, and Hawkstar couldn't help but join himself. As the calls died out, and cats moved to congratulate the newly named warrioress, the big StoneClan tom descended the Rock Pile slowly.
As a lull in congratulatory declarations reached the young she-cat, Hawkstar stepped forward with a warm purr. "Sootwhisker." He greeted, touching his nose to her head warmly. "Congratulations, you have earned your place as a warrior. And I have no doubt in my heart that Fallenleaf is watching you from StarClan now, heart bursting with pride." The second part was said in a lowered rumble, something meant for Sootwhisker, and Sootwhisker alone. His old friend had never had kits of her own, but anyone who had witnessed the bond shared between a younger Sootwhisker and Fallenleaf would know Sootwhisker had been as close to a daughter as Fallenleaf had ever had. Tied, of course, with Skunkspots.
His piece said, the StoneClan figurehead stepped back to allow the next Clanmate to step forward.
