Appearance
Description Summary: A dark-brown, almost black, fluffy tom with bright yellow eyes.
Description: At one point, Nightpetal, then Nightshade, was a very handsome tom. His face was shaped and angles in such a way that was often described as simply "pleasing to the eye" to many. His muscles were strong and his overall appearance was quite broad, hardly hiding the strength hidden underneath. His legs were long, giving him height as well, and his tail was even more fluffy than the rest of him. His eyes were the brightest shade of yellow and resembled the sun. He was a picturesque image of a strong and worthy Warrior.
As sad as it is to say, that was back then. Things change. Don't misunderstand; he is still quite handsome, even for his age. But due to certain circumstances, his muscles aren't as strong as they once were and his legs are honestly quite feeble and weak. His bright eyes, once filled with determination and pride, now constantly emit hints of sadness and regret. They still shine like the sun, but the sunshine that his eyes once provided to those around him as seemed to fade.
Personality
Personality: One thing that has always been said about this tom is that he is loyal to a fault. He would risk his life for his clan and has multiple times before. He does so without any regret or hesitation and would never leave a clanmate behind, regardless of their opinion of him or their personality. Age, rank, lineage. None of it matters. Every cat is worth saving.
He was once described as very brave, determined, strong-willed, courageous, and ambitious. He was known by his clanmates as the cat whose bravery never faltered, no matter the situation. He would face every challenge with a confident smile and would never back down from a fight if it meant proving his worth or saving his family. He was also well-known for being a huge lover of kits, which remains the same even today. He loves seeing younger cats, loves seeing newborn kits in the nursery, and often considers himself as a sort of grandfather figure to any kit or Apprentice born into Stoneclan. He has always been a great father as well. He taught his children to have manners, do their best no matter what, and always do what they can to become amazing Warriors.
It is often disappointing to some that he isn't the same as he once was. He remains a great father and a lover of kits. He also has stayed loyal throughout his life, never doubting his clan for one second. But because of his weak body and often unstable state of mind, he isn't suited for fighting or facing challenges as he once did. He still has the desire to protect his clan and his family, but he doesn't have the strength, often causing him to be depressed. But he finds great comfort in the company of others, especially his family members. He loves hearing about how their days went or listening to their stories. He's a broken soul to say the least.

History: Darkcloud and Skylight. Two brave and noble Warriors of Stoneclan. Darkcloud was known for his long black fur and large appearance, while Skylight was known for her brightly-colored coat and her grace. Both of them, in their own ways, were amazing Warriors. When they had their first and only litter, many were overjoyed. There were two little toms: Owlkit and Nightkit. The two brothers were such adorable little fluffballs and got a lot of love from their parents and the rest of their family. As they grew up, their parents quickly taught them proper manners, as well as the Warrior code and the difference between right and wrong. By the time they were Apprentices, both of them were already eager to become Warriors and to protect their clan.
Nightpaw in particular was assigned to a tom named Grayjaw who was a larger and stronger tom. Between the two brothers, Nightpaw was the one built more so for strength and intimidation, despite them both being relatively large and muscled. So Grayjaw proved to be a perfect mentor. He taught Nightpaw how to use his strength, use balance, and even how to try and channel his strength into one paw or one leg when needed. It was also Grayjaw that implemented that ambitious and challenge-facing nature that Nightpaw grew to be known for. He and Grayjaw would often go out and train with other Warriors and their Apprentices, which was how Nightpaw met the love of his life.
Petalpaw was a sight to behold. With a silver-dappled pelt that shined in the sun and a look of pure elegance, she was seen as a gorgeous cat by many of her peers. Her legs and tail were long, gifting her with grace. Her eyes were gentle and innocent, a calming effect wafting over those she gazed into the eyes of. It was quite clear why Nightpaw immediately developed a huge crush on her when they began training together. Grayjaw, knowing of this little crush, would try to pick on Nightpaw and would purposely seek out Petalpaw and her mentor so they could train. Originally this was just to gently tease Nightpaw and joke with him, but Grayjaw had no idea just how much this influenced the two Apprentices. It was obvious to anyone and everyone that Petal and Night were head over heels for each other. They were constantly together. They trained together, hunted together, went on patrols together. Half the time they even shared the same nest.
When they became Warriors, both of them earned names that had a deeper meaning. Nightpaw was renamed to Nightshade. As to be expected, this concerned many cats, considering nightshade was a poisonous plant. But he was not named this because he was dangerous or anything. He was named this because of his appearance and his fighting style. Fighting style wise, he got this name because if any cat were to latch their jaws onto him, regardless of where, he would make sure that they left injured or didn't leave at all. It could be seen as extreme, but he only ever had the intention of hurting another if he must. He never had the desire to kill, just as nightshade berries didn't choose to be poisonous. Appearance wise, Nightshade has always been a very dark cat, often seeming black one moment and dark brown the next. Plus, he could blend in with the darkness of night and the shadows of day, just like the plant.
Petalpaw, on the other hand, was named Petalwish. The suffix she was given was based purely off of her beliefs and her personality. The prefix had been given to her for her bright coat, but -wish was added because of her very bright attitude and the fact that she wishes peace for Stoneclan and all of its members. Not even just Stoneclan, either. She wishes for all of the clans to thrive and live in peace.
The two of them were known for their talents and for their relationship. It was hardly even a few moons after they became Warriors that the two announced that they were mates. Their relationship was one of those ones that young she-cats awe at and wish for when they get older. Just as they did when they were Apprentices, they did everything together. They slept in the same nest, hunted together, shared prey. What surprised many cats, though, was that the two of them didn't have kits for the longest time. They were very much love-birds and would make perfect parents, but they chose not to have any for a while. They focused more so on building their reputations in the clan and training Apprentices that would be assigned to them. It was around 32 moons when they finally told the clan that they were expecting kits. Everybody was excited for the two of them and they were very thrilled. Their first litter contained two kits, a tom named Crowkit and another tom named Stormkit. The two of them were a perfect mix of Night and Petal. Crowkit had Night's dark coat but had his mother's short fur and slender body. Storm, on the other hand, was more so a dark-dappled cat with longer fur. Just like his parents did for him, Night put manners and the Warrior code in his sons' heads as quickly as he could. He wasn't one of those parents that forces his kits to act a certain way. He allowed them to develop their own personalities. As long as they were loyal to Stoneclan and always tried to be the best Warriors they could, they would always be perfect in his eyes.
Nightshade and Petalwish watched with pride as their sons grew into Apprentices. Sort of a surprise to the clan, a few days after their first litter became Stormpaw and Crowpaw, they announced that Petalwish was expecting again. Oncr again, everyone was excited. Crowpaw and Stormpaw were already well-mannered and were going to be amazing Warriors, so everyone was quite sure that this litter would be the same. When this litter was born, there were three kits. There was a she-cat named Ripplekit, another she-cat named Ravenkit, and a little tom named Quietkit. Just like the first litter, these three were a good mix of both parents and were quickly taught proper manners and the Warrior code. It was also around this time when Nightshade's brother Owlflight and his mate Lizardtail had their first litter of kits, making Night an uncle and Petal an aunt. This now also gave the five kids some cousins. Now the proud parents of five cats, Night and Petal decided to take a little bit of a break kit-wise. They wanted to watch their eldest become Warriors and their youngest become Apprentices before they even considered having any more kits. As to be expected, they were wonderful and supportive parents for all of their children.
Nightshade and Petalwish watched with pride as Crowpaw became Crow-wing, Stormpaw became Stormcloud, Ripplepaw became Ripplepool, Ravenpaw became Raventalon, and Quietpaw became Quietwind. Each of their kits had turned into amazing Warriors with their own personalities and skills. They were full of pride and were glad that they had given Stoneclan five Warriors that would defend their clan with their lives.
Many believed that they would have more kits, which they did consider. The thought of having more little bundles of joy was something that they thought about a lot. For multiple moons they thought over the idea of having more kits, but by the time that they did choose not to, it would have been a bit late anyway. The two of them were starting to get a little bit older, so it was better if they didn't risk having another litter, just in case. They had gotten lucky with their first two litters. Third times a charm was something they weren't willing to test.
The large family lived in peace for a long time. But when Night and Petal were around 70 moons, they had gone out for a walk through the territory and found themselves faced with a family of ferrets. They thought that they could take on the family and did manage to take out two, but there were quite a few of them. They started running as fast as they could to get away from the family, which they did outrun for the longest time. But when they found themselves near a somewhat steep cliff near the edge of the territory, Petalwish's paw twisted in a way that no paw should, causing her to collapse. Before Nightshade even had time to comprehend, Petalwish was hanging over the edge of the cliff, holding on for dear life. He quickly leaned over and grabbed onto her scruff to try and pull her up, but he felt something slam into him from behind, pushing him over the edge. He and Petalwish tumbled over the cliff, rolling over each other and occasionally hitting stones as they did. Scared that they weren't going to make it, the two of them locked paws just as they hit the ground. Sadly, Petalwish had ended up underneath him at the last second and landed right on her head, causing her to die almost instantly. She had made Nightshade's landing a little bit softer, but he still was injured, as to be expected. For the longest time, Nightshade laid there, spending half the time passed out and half the time awake. When a search party was sent to look for them, Raventalon and Crow-wing found their parents at the bottom of the cliff. Their mother was dead and their father laid next to her, not dead, but crying.
Petalwish's body was brought back to camp and Nightshade was helped back as well. One of his legs was broken and he had many gashes from the stones he would hit. The whole family laid around Petalwish's body that night, mourning for her. But Nightshade stayed there the longest. For two nights he laid with his dead mate, his face buried in her beautiful fur. When it was finally time to lay her to rest, Nightshade was the one to give her a final lick across her cheek and a nuzzle to send her to Starclan. After this, he made the decision to become an Elder, even if it was a few moons early. He was injured and was extremely depressed after losing the love of his life. But he had a request to make first. As soon as he was well enough to walk again, he went straight to Hawkstar to have a private conversation. During this meeting, he asked that before he retires to the Elder's den, he wanted his name to be changed from Nightshade to Nightpetal in honor of his mate. When asked if there was a certain reason why, he said that he wanted both he and Petalwish to retire to the Elder's den together, he physically and she in spirit. Hawkstar agreed to this change and Nightpetal went to the Elder's den. For nearly two whole moons he hardly ever left the den. He thought of Petalwish every day and for the longest time doubted himself and everything that happened that day. But since then he has cheered up a little bit. He still thinks about his dear mate and talks about her often.
