Tanaka ♀ - Loner - 26 Moons Leafbare 16 Staying outside too long begins to have ill effects on health. - - - Mid-Leafbare was always the most difficult for a cat with no home to handle. Kittypets, which were actually rare to find anymore, had their twoleg nests. Those clan cats presumably had their own comfy dens full of warm moss. There were some loners who found sanctuary for themselves and even establish their own little territories. Not this loner.
The blanket of snow on the ground crunched underneath the relatively small paws of a primarily white cat as they traversed through the forest. Yellow-green eyes looked forward as they walked, ears perked and occasionally turning to catch any sounds that were out of the ordinary. The cat's tail would lash behind them when some snow would fall from the branches around them, but they didn't seem to react much. They had a goal in mind and had every intention of following through with it.
Those eyes then turned upwards towards the sky. The sun's light shined through the trees, not quite straight up in the sky but slowly but surely beginning its long process of falling from the sky. This cat seemed to be following the direction of the sun as they walked, if one paid close enough attention. What they were looking for was unknown, though.
Ears perked forward as a small clearing appeared ahead of them. It wasn't much, nor was it very large. But there were a few somewhat large boulders in the center, coated with a light cover of powdery snow. The cat approached, walking out into the clearing and jumping up onto the boulders. Luckily, the trees allowed a decent amount of light to hit the ground in this clearing, allowing the she-cat to get a little bit of warmth from its light. She stretched out her limbs atop these boulders, the light but cool breeze sending a small chill down her spine. As she finished, her eyes peered around her in all directions, now seeming to look closer for something now that she had a height advantage. Her turning stopped as she apparently saw what she was looking for. The she-cat leaped down from the boulders and trotted towards a somewhat large tree that wasn't too far from the clearing. As she approached, the larger roots of the trees seemed hollowed out underneath the tree's base. One would assume that another creature had done this for shelter, but there were no scents.
The orange-tabby and white cat slowly made her way into the den-like hole, surprised at how much space there really was. Realistically, you could fit maybe two or three cats inside, though there wouldn't be much room. She went towards the back of the little den and sat near the back wall, lifting one of her paws and licking the cold paw pads underneath.
Taxx Notes ~ Even though the thread is on the Night-Tree border, she isn't coming from Nightclan territory. She is coming from outside of both. I was thinking that this little random clearing and the tree she is in are right by Treeclan's border.

Finchcloud So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Oh, it was cold! Even with his thick fur he could feel it, his pads and ears aching with the chill wind. He hadn't been out that long, either. The others in his patrol were scouring the woods around the Great Maple, each in their own small space in hopes that spreading out just a bit would result in better success. His belly ached; prey was growing scarcer by the day and most of what they caught was going straight to the young and old of the camp.
The sudden scent of squirrel caught Finchcloud's attention and he froze, slowly looking around- there! Just behind one tree, he could see the creature venturing out, probably looking for acorns it had buried. Easing into a crouch, Finchcloud slowly snuck up on the wary creature, step by step. He couldn't lose it- it wouldn't go far, but it would feed a cat or two. He lunged and it whipped back toward the nearest tree; already anticipating that move, Finchcloud adjusted his charge and sprang, teeth closing on the fluffy tail and dragging the squirrel back down. His forepaws pinned it and a quick bite claimed it as prey.
Lifting his head, Finchcloud gave customary thanks, pleased at the catch, before burying it in the hopes that he might catch something else. But, as he neared the border, it was the scent of another cat- a she-cat, not TreeClan- that caught his attention. He hesitated, cast a glance back, and ventured over the border to where the scent was coming from, making sure to crunch snow beneath his paws to alert the loner to his approach. "Hello?" I know the road is long but where you are is home Tanaka 26 Moons || She-Cat || Loner Eyes closed and ears perked, the hidden she-cat continued to groom her own paw, wiping it across her face in an attempt to warm up her freezing nose and ears. The fact that multiple parts of her, such as her nose, tail, and pawpads, were quite cold and difficult to feel wasn't much of a surprise. This was why Leaf-bare was always the worst season to be out and about in. But when you didn't have a set home, what were you suppose to do. At this thought, the femme placed her paw back down to the ground, eyes opening and examining the small den she found herself in. A thought crossed her mind at this moment. This den was relatively comfortable. It was a bit compact, but it defended against the worst of the weather. Find some prey, pile up their pelts and stripped fur, and this could make a warm den. That would require not only hunting, but actually finding said prey first, which wasn't easy during this season.
She let out a sigh, looking out towards the entrance she had come in from. The world outside, from where she sat at least, seemed completely white and gray. Trees with no leaves. Snow covering the ground. It seemed so bare and void of color. She had to admit that she almost missed the bright colors of Green-leaf and Leaf-fall. Thinking about it, she almost thought she saw a glimpse of a bright orange, reminding her of the changing leaves right before they fell during Leaf-fall.
....wait....that wasn't just her imagination. She shook her head for a moment and looked back outside the den, seeing once or twice a glimpse of a golden orange. At first she wondered whether it was a piece of prey, but seeing the size, this was different. Was that a cat? She stood from where she sat, taking a few steps towards the entrance but not allowing any light from the outside to hit her. It was indeed another cat. A larger and quite fluffy light-orange and tan cat. It seemed as though the cat had just caught a piece of prey, causing her to silently curse under her breath. At first she thought that the cat had been solely focused on the prey. But this was changed when she heard a voice.
"Hello?"
She then realized that the cat was coming closer to her little den. She could hear the snow crunching under the tom's paws getting closer and closer. It wasn't like she could run, so what else was she to do. The she-cat took a single step forward, standing at the inner-entrance of the den. The sun and the snow's brightness just barely flowed into the den enough to see her. Because of the darkness of the den, one couldn't fully see the she-cat, but because she was a brightly-colored cat, you could easily see her outline and general form.
"Hello, " she stated simply. Honestly, while she was indeed looking at this tom as she spoke, it wasn't him or his response that she was focused on, but instead the scent of squirrel wafting from him. She felt her stomach roll at the scent, though it thankfully didn't growl. She, looking back up at the tom with slightly narrowed yellow-green eyes, found herself curious as to where his freshly-caught prey had disappeared to, but she didn't show this openly.
"Speech."

Finchcloud So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Finchcloud paused a short distance from the opening beneath the tree, his gaze settling on the she-cat who appeared. He dipped his head in greeting, silently looking back at her- now unsure what he was supposed to do. If she’d been on TreeClan land, he would have reason to chase her off, but she wasn’t- and she didn’t seem to be doing any harm. “Um,” he replied, ears twisting back and coughing in a moment of embarrassment. He was supposed to be hunting, not talking to loners.
“I… I’m sorry, I just smelled you and… wanted to see if you were okay.” Which was true enough, but it wasn’t like he had any reason to think she wasn’t capable of looking after herself. “Sorry for bothering you- I hope I didn’t intrude on anything.” He couldn’t scent any other cats, so she was likely just on her own. Doing whatever a loner had to to survive.
“If you are okay?” Maybe he ought to be more concerned with his duty, but he couldn’t help worrying about this lone female- not out of pity, but sympathy. How hard must it be to live alone? With no one to hunt with or curl up with at night? It seemed awfully lonely, to Finchcloud, and he couldn't leave until he felt certain she would be all right. I know the road is long but where you are is home Tanaka 26 Moons || She-Cat || Loner It was clear right off the bat that this tom had approached her for no reason. If he had a purpose in his approach, he likely would have said something more than just 'um'. A slight ping of annoyance popped into the she-cat's mind, but she said and did nothing. She just stared at this large tom, waiting for him to keep on with whatever it was he was here to do. He didn't seem entirely sure of what he was trying to do exactly, though.
When he spoke again, he said he had wanted to see if she was ok. This struck the light-colored cat as odd. She didn't know this tom and he did not know her. What reason did he have for checking to see if she was ok or not? As a matter of fact, what right did he have to approach her at all? He smelled of other cats, meaning he probably had a family or something nearby, so he had no reason to be doing what he was. This thought brought on another annoyed ping. Before she could even speak, he spoke again. Interrupting her? All that he was interrupting was her survival.
"Other than being freezing and starving, I am perfectly fine, " she stated, a clear tone of irritability flowing through her voice. If this tom had known her previous to now, he would know that this was basically her voice on a daily basis towards everyone. But she did not know this tom. What she said had likely came off as kind of rude, but anymore it was hard to tell with her. Everything she said could easily mean something different yet always sound like she was ticked off. That was one of the joys of being her.
"And why exactly would you want to check on some cat you don't even know?"
"Speech."

Finchcloud So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory The reply that came wasn't what Finchcloud had expected, and he ducked his head, flashing a glance back over his shoulder to where he'd buried his squirrel. She could probably smell it on him, and he felt bad for walking up to her reeking of prey-scent that she couldn't eat. Especially when he didn't even have a good enough reason to offer for doing so, which was double the awkwardness of the situation, and he didn't know how to get out of it short of turning tail and fleeing.
Which didn't sound all that bad, really. Considering the alternative was to stay here and have her stare at him. His tail flicked constantly, nervously, but he didn't move- and he didn't speak, green eyes fixed a bit blankly on the loner as possible replies chased each other around his mind for a rather uncomfortable moment before he finally blurted words. "I don't know! I just- I smelled you, and I wanted to see if you were okay, or if you might need help- not that I don't think you couldn't take care of yourself, of course, but... you know... or- maybe you don't..."
StarClan, he could feel his fur heating from embarrassment. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I think I should just go..." Gaze fixed on the snow, fur prickling, Finchcloud backed away, wishing he hadn't bothered to step past TreeClan's borders, because he'd done nothing but make a complete fool of himself. I know the road is long but where you are is home Tanaka 26 Moons || She-Cat || Loner This tom. He was tall. He was muscular. He could obviously hunt relatively well. He was handsome. And he was awkward. Stupidly awkward. Annoyingly awkward. If Tanaka had been a human, there was a chance that a vein would have appeared on her head. He talked so much and had started to stutter and was throwing all of his thoughts out there at once. A very visible frown appeared on the she-cat's face as he spoke.
Finally, the tom started backing away, stating that he should go. He started to turn away, which the lone she-cat was actually thankful for. Just as she went to turn away as well, she stopped. It was at that moment that she realized something she hadn’t noticed before. Her eyes locked on the tom once again and they narrowed.
“Hold it!” She snapped, taking two steps out of the den towards the tom. She slightly opened her mouth and breathed in, taking in the scent that she had sort of noticed before but thought nothing of. He was out in the winter by himself hunting prey, yet he didn’t eat it when he caught it. Instead, he had left it somewhere, likely hidden. Not only that, he smelled like other cats, and a lot of them.
“That smell.....where are you from? Who are you hunting for?” The tip of her tail lashed behind her, staring the already awkward and embarrassed tom down intently.

Finchcloud So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Finchcloud jumped at the order, spinning back with wide eyes as she stepped closer. Her next question was met with a blink; she wanted to know where he was from? At the same time, he was glad to be able to offer conversation that wasn't one-sided, and he answered willingly. "TreeClan," he replied, flicking his tail toward the border.
"I... I hunt for them. I live with them." Did she not know about the Clans? She must be new to the valley, then, because how could she not know about them? "What- what about you?" he returned the question, head lifting as his eyes took on a curious gleam, the uneasy stance relaxing. "Where are you from?"
Wait, he thought to himself, and searched back through the last moments of conversation. Had he even introduced himself? Another flush swept through him. How rude could he be in the space of an afternoon? "My name is Finchcloud. What's yours?" Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must FIGHT just to keep them ALIVE Abyss

I know the road is long but where you are is home Tanaka 26 Moons || She-Cat || Loner Treeclan? A pinch of curiosity wove its way into the she-cat's mind. She had never heard of this place before. Place? Or was it a group? She wasn't sure, but she also didn't particularly care. She just wanted to know more for the sheer fact that if there was a large group of cats near by, she would have essential information on who else she was dealing with in the valley. He stated that he lived with and hunted for them, which sounded similar to her old group. She was unsure of whether they were the same or similar, but that was unneeded info. But then he asked where she was from.
She debated on whether or not to tell him, but then she also realized that it didn't matter. The likelihood of him knowing where she was talking about or about her family was unlikely. "A valley or two away. Got here recently, " she stated simply. There was no need to tell him about her family group, considering she wasn't with them anymore
Then he asked the question that she was hoping to avoid. He stated his name and then asked for her's. What need did this random tom have with her name? He didn't need to know and she and she had no reason to tell him. Then again, the thought once again occurred to her that even if she did tell him her name, she probably wouldn't see him ever again, so it wouldn't matter in the end. She narrowed her eyes and flicked her tail behind her.
"Tanaka."

Finchcloud So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory It wasn't much of an answer, and it came after a moment of hesitation, like she wasn't sure if she ought to tell him. She had to be alone, there were no other cat scents around. Maybe she'd had trouble, and that's why she was so unwilling to talk about it? It would be rude, then, to push...
A voice from the border caught his attention and he turned to see Berrythorn staring at him. "What are you doing?" the tom asked, gaze flicking between Finchcloud and Tanaka.
Finchcloud hesitated, turning back to the loner she-cat. "Uh- we were just talking... I should go," he added to Tanaka, backing away. "Good luck with- well, everything. I hope you get through leafbare okay."
With that, he spun around and darted for the border, crossing it and flashing a scowl at Berrythorn's teasing; fetching his squirrel, the two rejoined the others on their patrol and headed back to camp, each one now eager to escape the cold in the warmth of the warriors' den. I know the road is long but where you are is home Tanaka 26 Moons || She-Cat || Loner The tom wasn't pleased with her answer. Or at least it seemed that way. He said nothing after she answered him, either having no response to her short answers or feeling too awkward to try, as before. Her cold eyes remained locked on him, though they wavered when she heard a voice.
She glanced right passed the orange tom to find another cat, a pure black tom, standing in the distance, looking to the pair. Finchcloud turned back to her, hesitating for a moment before speaking again. He stated that he should go and told her good luck with everything before quickly turning away. She watched as he joined the other tom and began to leave, eyes staying just as narrowed as they had before. As they walked away, the white and orange she-cat also turned and slipped back into the makeshift den she had found. As she curled up against the dirt and root wall of the den, she could just barely hear the voices of the two toms in the distance. When she closed her eyes moments later to hopefully take a nap, she couldn't help but feel that twinge of annoyance return at the thought that there was a group of cats not too far away, one that could easily be similar to her own previous family group.
