I will plant my heart in the garden of my dreams,

Aspkit giggled.

And immediately hushed herself, eyes going wide. She looked around, holding her breath. To her relief, none of the others seemed to have woken to the sound.

The nursery was rather empty. Most of the mothers were huddled near the back of it, a clump of flesh and fur that trapped, and radiated, heat. A few mothers were awake, but they were occupied with their nursing kits, while the others were dead to the world.

She looked back at the clump of cats, grinning. It had been fairly easy to escape, squirming passed the sleeping kittens before slinking over the Queens' tails.

And now it was simply a matter of making it the rest of the way out of the Nursery without waking anyone up. She could see the frost outside, and she wanted to touch it! Taste it and see what it felt like, crunch it under her paws.

And, yes!, she was free! The kitten squeaked excitedly, jumping into the air and twisting, landing on all four paws, back arched and fur on end, spitting like the meanest of Warriors. That done, she spun around, began to trot and, naturally, walked face first into a cat.

And I will grow up where I'll wander wild and free.

Hope when you take that jump

When the tiny orange kit had burst from thr nursery, fierce and spitting as a spark on dry leaves, Russethawk had to almost swallow his tongue to keep himself from laughing. Per Silverstar's orders, the nursery was always guarded; usually by two apprentices at a time - or one warrior when the 'paws needed to focus on their own training.

He'd spied little Aspkit through the ferns, watching as she crept around denmates and dozing queens. Russethawk would have intervened, of course, if her actions had proved dangerous to Aspkit and the other little ones. But at the most, Aspkit was only in danger of a few bent whiskers - from walking right into him. It felt like getting bumped by a mouse, and Russethawk laughed, lowering his muzzle until their eyes were level.

"Whoa there, Aspkit. Someone's sneaking off with their mother's permission." Though his tone was of reprimand, his demeanor was friendly and welcoming. "I used to sneak off when I was your age. Why, I made it alllllllllllllll---" he comically paused for a breath "--llllll the way to StarClan's Claws, before LightningClan's deputy had to bring me back home."

Though another apprentice or two would be along soon to swap places with him, Russethawk was in no hurry to return to his warrior duties. He didn't get to spend much time with kits, not since his friend's litter of two had gone on to become 'paws in their own right. That was the circle of life, he supposed.

"I thought adventuring was great fun. Buuut," said Russethawk nonchalantly, examining his claws. "Then my mother told me a scary story that made me want to stay in camp until I was an apprentice! Do you want to hear it?"

Russethawk shook his head, as if suddenly changing his mind. Emerald eyes glinted with mischief.
"No, no, this story is for older kits. I think I'd scare the stripes off your tail if I told you. Never mind."
