Cobrashadow
Beware the Coiled Snake
You got your rules and your religion
All designed to keep you safe
But when rules start getting broken
You start questionin' your faith
His temper had grown to a boiling point.
His sister thought it was almost amusing watching cats move out of the way as the spotted tom padded through camp, scowl and smirk practically permanent on his face at this point. But by this time she dulled of the entertainment her frustrated brother caused her and decided to drag him from Stoneclan with Adderstone. He was dragging along behind them like a scolded kit, though he probably figured he was going to get some sort of reprimand from his sister.
So of course, out in a secluded part of the territory Cobrashadow paced back and forth across from where his brother and sister sat side by side, watching him with different gazed from emerald pools. His deep mew was once again replaying the argument, or rather the fight, he had gotten himself into with the Stoneclan Deputy.
Though to be clear, he dug that grave for himself.
But for some reason, the fight was eating away at him. Something was nagging at him, letting their claws tick down the bones of his spine uncomfortably. It was making him want to fix whatever had happened between the two of them. Cobrashadow didn't want to admit it, but he wasn't exactly happy that Smokestorm was furious with him.
He wasn't entirely sure where the conversation took a turn for the worst. What he said had been truthful, well except towards the end where he called his deputy out for being scared. That was about the only part Cobrashadow had immediately regretting saying, of course his apology had burned away in his throat as the she-cat snapped and stormed off to leave him out in Stoneclan's territory, alone.
"Oh, for Starclan's sake. Sit down or you'll wear a gorge into the ground." Viperstrike snapped after finally growing weary of her brother's annoying pacing. "I'll help you if it will improve your gloom. It's affecting my ability to enjoy things." Her tone was cold and sharp, though that was generally the way she talked to anyone she wasn't trying to manipulate.
"You'll help me?" Cobrashadow narrowed his green hues at his sister, it was practically impossible to read anything off of Viperstrike's body language. She even managed to keep her gaze of green fire emotion free, one of her specialties.
A snort of a laugh sounded beside her as both siblings took a glance at Adderstone, the golden spotted tom's tail flickering in amusement. "Viperstrike you don't help anyone but yourself." He quickly received a cuff around his ear that caused him to clamp his jaws closed.
"I'd be better help to him than you are. I'm am a she-cat after all." The black she-cat turned her attention back to Cobrashadow as she wrapped her black plume tail around her paws. "So, do you want my help or not Cobrashadow?"
There was a long pause that passed between the three of them, Adderstone just let his gaze flicker back and forth between his two siblings. He was growing slightly uncomfortable and antsy when his brother finally broke the silence with his deep mew, v-torn ear flickering atop his head. "What's in this for you?"
The question caused a flash of amusement to filter across dangerous green orbs, a silky purr followed as she gave a rasped response, "A favor. Whatever I want, whenever I want." A fair trade in her mind. She practically jumped to her paws when Cobrashadow finally gave her an agreeing flicker of the black tip of his tail. "Good!"
"Now, forget everything about the fight that you said."
"Why-"
"Because you were wrong." Viperstrike cut him off before Cobrashadow could completely finish his question, of course this caused Adderstone to chuckle again. The black she-cat glanced over her shoulder at Adderstone, "What are you laughing about?"
"Cobrashadow just told the truth, how could he be wrong?" Adderstone spoke as if he were absolutely correct, his lazy green gaze flicking towards his brother for a show of support, though he missed the disgusted burn of their sister's eye roll.
"Neither of you are allowed near she-cats."
"Now, listen!" Viperstrike let loose her frustrations with a hiss, causing Adderstone to once again close his jaw to avoid another cuff to the ear. "Cobrashadow, you think with your head. All logical and reasonable, but you weren't there." She purposefully paused to let her brother realize where she was heading. "She was, and she saw the carnage. She felt those deaths."
After the attack of foxes during a Gathering, Cobrashadow had felt an overwhelming sensation of guilt due to the lives lost. Thinking that if he had been there he would have been able to prevent the deaths of so many Stoneclan cats. He had been there when they said goodbye to Dawnblossom, and even to Eagletalon. He had been present when they realized that Ashpaw's body wasn't able to be located.
And so, he rationalized the guilt. They were cats of Stoneclan, they knew their lives were lived along a path of danger and that anything was possible and could happen. One was a senior warrior, one was an apprentice and one was a medicine cat. But to prevent future loss, the smartest thing to do was to train those who lived, make those deaths worth living.
Don't let their memories go to waste.
Cobrashadow lowered his gaze from Viperstrike's for a moment, annoyed with his sister as much as he was the argument he had sunrises ago, despite the fact he knew she was right.
"If you want her to forgive you, then you better be prepared to beg for it." Cobrashadow's gaze immediately shot up, a scowl covering his golden face as Viperstrike's whiskers wriggled in amusement. Even though she was trying to aid him in an attempt to soothe his temper, she always loved to rile him up as well.
