Name: Slugpaw
Age: 6 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: Stoneclan
Rank: Apprentice
Description: The first thing you might notice about Slugpaw is his size. Not quite the size of a full grown cat yet, he is still considerably larger than the average apprentice—now, if he'd only hold himself with the confidence his size would normally lend him. Usually, one will notice that Slugpaw attempts to make himself seem smaller than he actually is: whether this involves resting with all of his feet tucked beneath him, taking up the least space possible, or simply always crouching, Slugpaw obviously doesn't want to draw attention to himself. It helps that most of his pelt is a soft grey color; it only looks truly black in the dark, and he has too much white spreading up his nose and all over his underbelly and legs to truly blend in, but it helps. His nose and the pads of his paws are a pure, soft pink, except for a small spot of black where his nose meets his mouth. Slugpaw's body seems to truly embody that of a Stoneclan cat; his back legs are strong and powerful, showing signs of great muscle tone that will potentially let him leap and jump over his Clan's territory. However, he's still got the ungainliness of youth; his mentor will have to be sure to check his posture, lest he get into a habit he can't break. Falling and tripping over too-big paws is a constant problem for Slugpaw, but who knows—he's still young! He's got time to grow into a graceful tomcat.
Description Summary: An unusually large grey-and-white tom with bright green eyes.
Personality: Slugpaw is honestly... not that social, for a young cat. Too many internalized issues and grievances and problems as a kit has caused his young heart to be far too burdened than it should be at his age. He is a deeply lonely cat, who finds it extremely hard to connect to others, and is frankly terrified of being an apprentice because he knows that it means he has to be social with others, and even without the presence of his mother breathing down his neck, he's terrified of being a failure... just by being himself. However, Slugpaw has already shown himself to be a deeply curious individual. If he lets himself open up, he'll find himself to be very empathetic as well, though only time will tell if these traits will become a hindrance or a help to him. He'll likely hold himself back a lot due to his fears and his own trauma—Slugpaw is a very sad individual, it will take time (or just the right amount of pressure) to open up the locks around his heart.
History: So, how he came to be this way. Slugkit was nearly entirely shaped by his mother, who honestly shouldn't have ever had kits. Murkstep was an extremely insecure she-cat; her whole self-worth was built upon who loved her. And when Lizardbelly showed his affection, she sunk her claws into him, and they were in a relationship before he knew what happened. Perhaps he did love her, in the beginning, but settling with she-cats was never going to be something he did long-term, and so after a whirlwind affair on Murkstep's end and an extremely awkward season on Lizardbelly's end, the two parted ways... against Murkstep's desires. She tried everything to make Lizardbelly see reason, but he just wasn't that into her—even as Murkstep's belly grew, Lizardbelly was only interested in being a part of the kits lives, not hers. Which devastated Murkstep, and twisted her feelings to the point of abuse.
When Slugkit came into the world, he disappointed his mother by being the only one. And then he just kept disappointing her; he was too big, he was clumsy, he looked boring... but he was hers. And he needed her. And so she made sure that he only ever needed her. He wasn't allowed to play with the other kits, she barely let other warriors see him through his nursing, and when he was allowed outside the nursery, he was never allowed to stray. Lizardbelly wasn't allowed to get anywhere close to him if he wasn't going to admit he loved Murkstep, and since he was her only kit, Murkstep had no reservations with pulling the ' overprotective mother ' card to get Slugkit to depend solely on her. If Slugkit ever rebelled or tried to sneak out or talk or make friends with the others, Murkstep would go on about how he was disappointing his mother, how she was so alone, this and that until Slugkit couldn't take it and he returned to her.
This wasn't going to fly forever. He was growing fast, approaching his apprentice age, and Murkstep knew it. The tighter she clung to Slugkit, the more he tried to fight and break away, until eventually they fought. It was a quiet, hushed thing, but it ended with a shell shocked Slugkit getting patched for a torn ear. He'd tripped. Murkstep's misstep had cost her what little clout she had within the clan; as tight knit as Stoneclan was, the gas-lighting and ostracization wouldn't stand, and it was finally catching up with her. Eventually, Murkstep just... disappeared. The damage was done, however—Slugkit didn't know how to function without his mother to direct him, and it was close to his apprenticeship and he had no friends or other connections to speak of. However his life will shape up now, at least he has Stoneclan at his back... now, if only he could figure out how to make friends.
