Larkpaw

Larkpaw was curled up and fast asleep in the Apprentice’s Den. She was having the greatest dream where she was fishing for minnows, splashing around in the river happily. It was bliss to her. In her sleep, her tail was twitching with impatience and her paws were twitching with the excitement of the dreams she was having. It must have been quite the sight to anyone who happened to be looking over at her.

Her dream ended abruptly with her catching the minnow she was targeting. Lazily, she blinked her eyes which were adjusting to the dim light of the den. She stood up, shaking her pelt off and stretching happily with a purr. It felt so good to stretch after a long sleep, and she finally felt well rested.

Larkpaw wandered away from her sleeping area, looking for some mischief to get into. She wondered what the day would bring, and whether she would be able to have any adventures today. She was desperate to get out of the camp, but knew she wouldn’t be allowed to alone.

[Hellion]

Brushing past her sister Swanscreech, Owlpaw headed for the fresh-kill pile. Having placed the freshly caught trout, her eyes scanned the camp. Alive with the hustle and bustle of everyday she felt caught up in it. A little fish in the rushing river.

Ever close to her warrior ceremony, Owlpaw felt even more out of place. She always struggled to relate to her same-age mates and felt that her social circles were the older warriors. Cats that had the wisdom to spare.

So when she caught a glimpse of Larkpaw leaving the apprentice den, she was reminded of it. The younger she-cat was a stranger to her despite having shared a den for a few moons already.

Swallowing the lump of anxiety that magically appeared in her throat, she headed for the fellow apprentice.

"Uh..Larkpaw...I was wondering if you'd like to do something," She felt awkward with it but it was done. An effort was made. It was now up to Larkpaw to see if it was worth it.

Larkpaw

Larkpaw was glancing around the camp, not quite sure who to approach. Her friend circle was smaller than she would have liked, as she was a cat that was quite social and always ready to get into some sort of mischief. Her eyes rested on Owlpaw, an older apprentice she didn’t know much about. She didn’t even think they had even shared words yet. She realized then that the other apprentice was now making her way over to her.

Once the other she-cat got close, Larkpaw felt a small rush of happiness. This was perfect! She had been hoping to do something, anything today. She felt like an absolute dormouse whenever she slept in. “Hey, Owlpaw!” She greeted the other cat, smiling warmly. The other cat seemed to be a bit more reserved, so she made a mental note to put a cap on her enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, playing it cool never came too easily to Larkpaw. She found excitement in the most menial tasks. “That sounds great! What would you like to do?” The calico she-cat was nearly bouncing on the spot now, ready to get a move on. She deferred to the older cat, wondering what Owlpaw had in mind.

[Hellion]

Larkpaw's energy was an engima to Owlpaw but she tried to remain friendly. Friends were important even if Owlpaw struggled to make them, she was atleast trying.

Pleased with Larkpaw's reply, Owlpaw offered a small smile but it shifted away after a moment. She had no plan for what to do. Which was strange for Owlpaw. She was the cat to always have a plan.

Flicking her tail back and forth. Her pretty blue eyes scanned the active camp for an idea to come to her. There were a few birds on the fresh-kill pile and it was then the idea struck her.

"Have you ever hunted a duck? We could maybe get one and pluck the feathers for the queens or at the very least find one of their nests and take their feathers." She suggested. It would be a challenge to be successful with such a task but determined as ever, Owlpaw trusted in her knowledge to find the solution.

Larkpaw

The calico she-cat purred deeply, not noticing that the other cat seemed a bit off-put by her enthusiasm. Larkpaw was too excited to have a new friend and plans for the day to pay any attention to the subtle body language of the other apprentice. The small smile was enough encouragement for her. Green eyes watched as Owlpaw’s blue ones scanned the camp. She too looked around, wondering what they could do.

The other apprentice spoke again and Larkpaw’s tail thrashed with excitement. A duck?! She had never tried to hunt one before. It would certainly be a welcome addition to the fresh-kill pile, and as Owlpaw said, the feathers would be excellent to bring back for the queens to line their nests with.

“Oh wow, a duck,” She exclaimed. “I have never hunted one before, but I think we could do it together!” She purred, trying hard to keep a lid on her enthusiasm so as not to scare her new friend away. She wondered how difficult catching a duck would be. It would be a challenge, that was certain.

Her eyes lit up with determination, ready to take on anything. Using all the self-control she had, she sat down on her haunches and wrapped her tail around her paws neatly. “Alright, Owlpaw. Lead the way!” She mewed, deferring to the older apprentice.
