THE GREATEST REVENGE IS COMPASSION

SPARKPAW
APPRENTICE | LIGHTNINGCLAN | 12 MOONS
Rain. Sparkpaw thought. Rain today, rain yesterday. Who knows, maybe there’ll be rain tomorrow?
It wasn’t a complaint, like most cats in the clans would make after a few days of grey skies and wet earth. The ginger and white cat existed, too glad to be living to let such a temporary inconvenience bother him. It’ll dry up eventually. He assumed. Everything had an end, and Sparkpaw had a hunch that he would live to see the sun again. Unless I drown. He grumbled to himself jokingly. That would be quite hard to do on Lightningclan territory.
A misty, morning rain dusted the ground, leaving the soil dark and heavily saturated. The earth was icy cold to the touch and sucked at everyone’s paws step by step. It wasn’t very pleasant, that was a fact, but if Sparkpaw heard one more cheeky cat complain about “swimming” from their den to the camp entrance, or anywhere else in the territory, he would claw his own ears off. They think they’re so clever sometimes. He noted, peeking out from the apprentice’s den.
The sound of rain tapping the ground made him want to curl up in his nest and stay dry more than anything, but he was almost a warrior. A good warrior always contributes to his clan, despite the circumstances. Besides, He thought. I’m kind of hungry. Sparkpaw always caught his own prey, a habit he started as soon as he learned the hunting crouch. His hunting skills have improved because of it, and he always ate freshly killed quarry. Days like today made him want to sneak something from the fresh kill pile, though he fought the urge. Sparkpaw suppressed a shiver as he plunged into the mist, swimming through the mud towards the camp entrance.
Everything in Lightningclan territory was coated in a film of water, droplets translucent and fragile in a dim, dreary light. The heather was bent and weeping from the weight of rain, its somber appearance dampening Sparkpaw's mood more than the weather ever could. What a boring life it must be, to be a plant. He pondered, legs carrying him out to sea. It smelled fresh, but it was a bit nippy every time a soft breeze brushed through the grasses. It wasn’t long before his little pink nose was completely numb and dripping. It was days like these where Sparkpaw felt lucky to have such a dense coat.
It felt like several hours had passed, and the rain grew steadily stronger. Sparkpaw had caught two voles and a small, skinny rabbit that he promptly gathered and had returned to camp. Sparkpaw went back out, and only a few moments ago, he had swiftly caught and killed a mouse. He carried its limp, warm body several strides away to the foot of a massive maple at the edge of Treeclan territory. About eight catlengths up the tree was a hollow inside the trunk that Sparkpaw had found earlier in his apprenticeship. It was much larger inside then it looked from afar, though he only ever used it for himself. If he ever wanted to be alone, he would come here to his own personal hollow, with very little fear of discovery.
That was the beautiful thing about Lightningclan: they hardly ever looked up.
Sparkpaw scaled the tree and crawled into the small den, his prudence a few days back offering him a dry, clean, comfortable nest while he ate his tiny mouse. His golden gaze scoured the ground below, the rain's steady patter eventually lulling him into a shallow sleep.
Life is good. Sparkpaw thought.

Notes: I don't know much about Lynxpaw, but Sparkpaw has been a relatively quiet apprentice the past few moons, very focused on himself and his training. He has high goals and every kit's dream of becoming something greater than a warrior hasn't rubbed off yet, though he knows he isn't quite nearly a match against Lynxpaw in hunting and likely battle as well. He liked training with her though; she was always great competition, always a challenge.
Sparkpaw is average at best and not quite exemplary at anything physically, but is renown for his wisdom and good advice. He is an incredible consultant and very ingenuitive, with a good intuition regarding strategy. Although not highly intelligent, Sparkpaw is a honest and fair cat with firm ideals and unwavering loyalty to himself, his kin, his friends, and his clan. He rarely loses his cool and constantly keeps calm even in the most complicated and heated of situations, perhaps giving him an edge against his opponents. Sparkpaw prefers to talk things through and work out his battles with his brain and tact, though won't back down from a physical or mental challenge; in fact, he secretly enjoys them. Sparkpaw has much more determination and persistence than he seems to embody from the naked eye, and no doubt will fight to the death to protect those he loves.
Sparkpaw will likely always seem far older than his years and respected for his professionalism. He is an excellent mediator and a worker-bee, constantly trying to contribute to those he loves, though he does take time to himself in an effort to balance his life between helping both himself and others. He isn't selfless, but he does have a fundamentally altruistic pattern of thought. Most decisions he makes stems from his moral acceptance that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, though like most cats, he has a soft spot for his kin and loves them very, very much.
Sparkpaw is a great leader, though he is a beta. His default setting is taking charge of the situation, though if he sees leaders worth following, he will adapt quite easily. His confidence, wisdom, and proactive personality are all reputable qualities and the construct of his character makes him the perfect partner. He strives to support and lift the spirits of everyone around him when he can, but he recognizes the mission at hand cannot be compromised. He believes everyone's feelings matter to some degree, thus his language skills are very adept. He has a very good handle on when to talk, and when not too. Although he is relatively quiet and reticent about his emotions, Sparkpaw will not hesitate to let someone know his perspective on a situation when he deems it to be the right time to do so.
