redscar Redscar always tried to make time for Owlmind, moving around his busy schedule as much as he could manage. The deputy had always considered himself closer to his sister than any other cat in Lightning clan, and never before had she let him down. This was true in all the ways she helped him, giving expert advice when needed, leading key patrols, and even working maintain his mental state when necessary. Today however she was helping one of Lightning clans greatest fighters improve his vast skill set with a bout of sparring practice. Slowly Redscar circled Owlmind attempting to keep his thoughts out of his movements, she was far too smart and any planned attack would fail, the fiery tom had learned long ago that she could only be fought with instinct. After clearing his mind Redscar lunged with a swipe from his left paw hoping to entice her into retaliating, from there he could react thoughtlessly to whatever she countered with. deputy of lightningclan background image | Ghost the Undead Goddess | table by phoenix

Owlmind And thus grant you Wisdom, Courage, and Strategy You're a star, you really are You're the one shining bright from all the rest in the dark A champion with nerves of stone You trained for this since the day you were born
It wasn't often that the two siblings managed to have a day to spend with each other, without the rest of the clan getting in the way. Not that was always necessarily a bad thing, after all the red coated tom did happen to be Lightningclan's deputy. And as such, it was his duty to be there when other cats needed him, whether for personal reasons, patrolling the boarders or even hunting for those who could not hunt for themselves. He was Firestar's right hand cat.
Not to mention one of the best Deputies this clan had ever seen, along with being a phenomenal senior warrior.
However, the gray coated feline had always been fairly close with Redscar, throughout their time as kits, apprentices and deep within their warrior-hood. Many moons had passed, and despite the time they had to spend with each other, their bond was still intensely strong. It was likely that nothing would ever tarnish the affection and reputation they had intertwined with each other over their lifespan.
The lanky she-cat was rather pleased when Redscar had approached her earlier that day, training was something the two of them were veterans of, something they both rather enjoyed. So it was no surprise that Owlmind followed her brother without protest to where apprentices are usually taught different hunting and battle maneuvers. Since she hadn't had another apprentice for the past few moons, it would give her some time to exercise her mind, dig into that vast pool of knowledge.
And so, there she stood, opposite of Redscar.
Wide amber eyes watched carefully, observation skills at their finest as they tickled over his form across from her. She stood square, shoulders facing front and paws with a firm stance upon the soft ground. One ear was tilted to the side, hoping to catch any sounds that the ear pointing forwards could not grasp. Her long, narrow head didn't budge, but that ever watchful gaze of hers sifted as her brother slowly circled her, looking for a place to strike.
Owlmind's head drifted over different plans her brother attempted during previous attempts to gain the upper hand between the two of them.
For all Owlmind's brilliant deduction skills, the best plan of action against the senior warrior was honestly that of surprise, that of instinct, the plan that has no thought or premeditation to it.
Aside from that, any little thing could give the lanky she-cat the upper hand. The slightest twitch of a nose or an ear, the direction in which her opposition happens to look, a paw-step forwards or backwards. To her, it was like breathing, the information flowed through her brain like a water from a stream. Owlmind had been that way for as long as she could remember.
And so he moved.
Redscar was quick within his movements, he had always been so, and battle was something he excelled in. Owlmind knew that the spar between siblings was going to be a difficult challenge for both of them, but one they whole heartily enjoyed.
The sudden motion was absent his thoughts, something he executed very well, forcing Owlmind to make her own countermove. Of course, with the process rifting through her mind, the lanky she-cat stepped into the left swipe before dropping to her belly to avoid contact from her brother's lunging form. However, her movement was slowed by the fact that she hadn't expected Redscar to move without a plan to flare within his eyes, and so his paw managed to cuff the tops of her long ears.
Scooting a few lengths away from her brother's form, a light of admiration floated with her golden pools. Twitching each ear in turn, Owlmind waved her long tail behind her lanky form. "That was a good start." Her voice fell near monotoned as she complemented Redscar. "I don't get caught off-guard easily, so this will be fun."
If his strategy was to leap before thinking then it would definitely make Owlmind work harder to figure out how to counter strike his offence with effective defense, not to mention how she was going to mount an offensive strike herself. That long tail of hers waved around behind her, almost as form of a distraction as she tried to calculate her own attack.
In a flash of gray, the senior warrior darted forwards on Redscar's left side before leaping to the right at the last second, an attempt for a cross body strike. With her lunge to the right, that left paw of hers flashed out to hopefully land soundly on her brother's cheek. If it were to connect then the second part of her offensive strike would be to land and bowl Redscar's heavy form over onto the soft ground.

redscar Redscar's first swipe nearly connected with Owlmind's skull and that was plenty enough indication that he was on the right track to being victorious this session. Keeping his mind as clear as possible the fiery pelted tom awaited his sisters response in the form of well placed strike from her paw. It was not a message Redscar planned to receive, and as she feinted to the right and swung from her left side the tom was ready. The strike was quick, and not wanting to give up any space Redscar opted to hold his ground. Pivoting with the strike Redscar minimized the impacts effectiveness, it had been a gamble however it was fairly effective, and was attempting to throw a left paw counter of his own when his sister threw her weight into him. With the strike from his paw being jammed by his sisters form before it could gain any meaningful momentum Redscar found himself tumbling towards the softened ground of the trampled clearing. With his mind switching back on as his instincts slowed Redscar tried to quickly assess if he would be in a position to reverse the takedown. He could attempt to use their momentum to throw her off if she committed fully to the pounce, however if she gave him space there was little he could do but lie on his back helplessly. If he attempted to regain his footing she would have a free shot, most likely at the back of his neck, and that was unacceptable. The moment of truth was upon them as Redscar felt the ground cushioning his fall and quickly refocused his eyes. In either situation Redscar would have to judge whether there was any point in continuing or if a concession to Owlmind was in order. deputy of lightningclan background image | Ghost the Undead Goddess | table by phoenix

Despite the plan working in favor of the lanky she-cat, the battle was far from won and her victory was not set in stone. It would definitely take a lot more than quick paws and clever thinking to take out the red pelted tomcat. There was a reason he was named deputy several moons ago, fresh into his warrior status.
Redscar was a fierce warrior, a talented alley and an intimidating foe.
As Owlmind's smaller form slammed against her brother, their momentum sent them sprawling across the soft ground in a tangle of fur and limbs. However, she read the movements within Redscar's intentions a little too late. Her plan was already in motion as he switched from instinctual movements to precise planning, this caused her reaction time to be slowed in an attempt to thwart his counter attack.
While the motions were quick as lightning, time seemed to slow for the lanky, gray she-cat as her brain quickly calculated each of Redscar's movements before she was thrown from his body. A heavy breath of air escaped Owlmind's chest as she landed onto the ground, curling her body so as she could roll back to her feet fairly quickly, long tail whipping around behind her as the fire of determination blazed within those amber pools of hers.
Impressive, Redscar...
Though she barely gave him time to regroup once he was on his own four paws. The senior warrior once again darted forwards, spraying dust behind her as her paws moved against the ground quickly. She was hot on the left, her plan of attack was similar to the last, though this time she wouldn't be throwing a cross body strike, but attempt barrel into his left side and take his legs out from underneath his body.
Getting a cat to reveal their soft underbelly was always a surefire way of winning.
As a tactic, Owlmind's wide gaze flickered to the right, an attempt to make it seem like she was repeating her previous attack. Unfortunately if this plan failed then it would leave her open for Redscar to knock into her flank, or even blindside her with a powerful swipe from his heavy paws. Were she in a real battle, the thought of claws ripping down her side was a possibility.
Luckily, training didn't involve such tactics as claws.

redscar Owlmind hadn't given Redscar much time to reorient himself after he found himself upright again, he had made it out of her first attack however she wasn't letting up. With her form quickly growing larger as she charged, Redscar needed to assess Owlmind's next move before it was too late. Usually a cat would make an indication, even if only slightly, that served to imply what they planned to do next. Redscar considered himself a master at picking up on these tells, and after seeing an indication in the flick of her eyes Redscar assumed she had intention of moving in that direction and was checking the ground for obstructions. This didn't seem correct however, as he doubted she could make a cut that quickly with the speed she had built up. It was all far too late however as there was no time to analyze what he thought he saw in Owlmind's eyes, Redscar had to act. Digging in his paws in preperation Redscar leapt towards Owlmind as he threw his shoulder into her with all his weight hoping to leverage his greater size against her. The impact was bone jarring, and Redscar again found himself tumbling after his sisters sudden deceleration hoping desperately to get off his back and onto his paws with enough time to take the offensive initiative. deputy of lightningclan background image | Ghost the Undead Goddess | table by phoenix

Owlmind And thus grant you Wisdom, Courage, and Strategy You're a star, you really are You're the one shining bright from all the rest in the dark A champion with nerves of stone You trained for this since the day you were born
Back and forth this training session went, it was definitely a surefire way to keep both senior warriors on their toes for future battles. While it was a showdown of the unstoppable force meeting the immovable object, it would have been a good show to give to the apprentices of Lightningclan. Perhaps on another day the two battle hardy siblings would do just that, perhaps quiz the younger minds on what they observed throughout the session and what they could take away from it.
However, that thought was left on hold as the lanky gray warrior was still shoulder deep in an intense training battle with her red pelted brother.
Her previous question on whether or not Redscar would detect her plan was answered as a shoulder was driven into her flank. With the sudden deceleration of her body, Owlmind was sent tumbling diagonally from her larger littermate, despite the fact that she attempted to shift away from his charge.
It took a second longer for the brilliant she-cat to find her paws again, somewhat thrown for a loop and the breath stolen from her chest when she landed and rolled. Owlmind gave a snort, dislodging a small amount of debris from her nose as she once again faced down the fluffy form of Redscar. A pale fire burned within her observant amber gaze, excitement tingling along her short haired pelt.
It wasn't often she came across a cat who could rival her intelligence or battle prowess, and she was sure Redscar felt the same. So a battle between the two of them had Owlmind reaching down for all her stops and turns. Long tail flickered intensely behind her, pleased at the amount of exercise she was getting out of this, though it reminded her why she enjoyed training apprentices too.
The mouse gray she-cat tilted her head ever so slightly, one ear twitched than the other. Her flanks heaved ever so slightly, both from being thrown around and running around like a wild rabbit.
It was her turn to play the defensive role.
Taking a few steps forwards, Owlmind made sure to keep her body from squaring out. She had a better chance at dodging or reversing an attack should she be perpendicular to the senior warrior across from her. Long, lanky legs carried her only a few inches, each movement showing the rippling of taunt muscles under her short coat from moons upon moons of training and hunting.
Finally she stopped, wide but observant amber pools watched Redscar with an intense focus. A flicker from the tip of her long tail signaled she was ready for his offensive attack, though those eyes that almost mimicked her namesake never once left her brother or the many paths he could take to lead him straight to where she stood. Excitement still tingled within her pelts as she waited.
Bring it on...
