{ } I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted Surrender to nothing ~ "You better stay out of trouble," Starlingcry reminded her eldest granddaughter as the tabby she-cat maneuvered herself out of the way of her grandmother's grasp. The solid black she-cat narrowed her icy blue eyes to study. "Are you meeting Acornpaw and Burrnose?" She questioned, carefully stopping the apprentice in her tracks. Gracklepaw's eyes narrowed before she gave a curt nod. Annoyed with her grandmother's pestering. "I'm going to do some battle training. Cinderpaw is going to try and meet me," She reminded her grandmother. Pleased that the youngest members of her family were off on the right paw in their training, Starlingcry permitted Gracklepaw to step around her. "Be back before sunset. Neither of you two are ready to be out all night," She reminded her as Gracklepaw darted from the camp. Relying heavily on her slender frame, she made good time and headed right for the pine needle clearing. Thankful she had a decent memory, she found her way and spied Acornpaw alone. Tasting the air for any sign of Burrnose, she found his scent absent. Realizing a prime opportunity to practice her ambushing, Gracklepaw stopped herself from entering the clearing. Instead, she moved along the edge until she found a decent spot. Gathering herself up she sprang forward, colliding with Acornpaw using all her weight the two tumbled in the clearing. Acornpaw gave a yowl of surprise and quickly pushed Gracklepaw off but that didn't deter the she-cat. In fact, it encouraged her to go after her, striking him carefully with sheathed claws. However, the mock fight ended with Acornpaw recognized it as her. "You scared me!" He panted, eyes narrowing. Grackelpaw smirked, head held high. "Stop being such a tadpole and circle up, the fun will end when a warrior shows up" She reminded him. Acornpaw gave a confused look but did as she suggested. Without hesitation she sprang forward again, starting yet another round. ~ GRACKLEPAW MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 Lyrics: Attack - 30 Seconds to Mars[/d NPC: Acornpaw. CINDERPAW NIGHTCLAN rather be the hunter than the prey
Cinderpaw had fallen behind Gracklepaw, his steps slower as he gazed about. The trees overhead were the sort that wouldn't lose their leaves, he had found out, and they created dapples of light and shadow on the ground- warmer where sun reached through, colder where it was blocked. The past needles of countless seasons littered the ground, making for quiet steps, and it was why Cinderpaw was able to approach the two sparring cats without being noticed.
Gracklepaw had plowed Acornpaw over, cuffing him around the ears with sheathed claws; the older cat's voice rang out to admit his surprise at Gracklepaw's ambush. That she had been able to catch him off guard, a cat three moons younger, made Cinderpaw snort in distaste. He hadn't been paying attention to what was around him- not smart for any warrior.
Gracklepaw sprang at Acornpaw again, and while he was busy trying to fend off his sister's blows, Cinderpaw darted in. Ducking low, he caught Acornpaw from behind, kicking his hind legs out from under him and listening with satisfaction to the shocked yowl that pierced the air. Padding slowly around to Gracklepaw's side, Cinderpaw sat, calmly lifting a paw to lick and rub over an ear. Younger, yes, but not smaller. Cinderpaw's move might have lacked grace, but it'd been effective all the same.
"I think he needs more training, don't you, Gracklepaw?" the tom asked, cool yellow eyes staring down at Acornpaw with derision. "What he's had so far doesn't seem to be sinking in."

{ } I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted Surrender to nothing ~ Eyes gleaming when her brother joined in the fight, she let a smile grow upon Acornpaw's defeat. The older tom gave a huff before sitting up, his fur a mess and breathing slightly heavy. Gracklepaw remained cool as the shadowy parts of NightClan. Shifting her eyes to look toward Cinderpaw at the sound of his voice Gracklepaw's grin twisted. Morphing to show off her teeth, claws extending into the soft dirt creating small rivets in the earth. Acornpaw looked between each of the siblings, ears pinned back likely to hide this fear. Curling her tail to touch her brother's shoulder, Gracklepaw nudged his shoulder with her own. "You should be able to take us, you are the older one, closer to being a warrior," She mewed, but her tone was far from supportive. Closer to mockery. Acornpaw got to his paws, admittedly looking a little sore. "Two on one isn't fair," He told the siblings, eyes shifting between the two. "When is a battle ever truly fair?" She questioned back. "Let's practice," Was the only warning she gave Acornpaw before springing for him. She trusted Cinderpaw to go in tandem with her.Like her personality, Gracklepaw was an upfront aggressor. She launched swipe after swipe to Acornpaw's face, few landed and the ones that missed still struck other parts of her clanmate's body. She only stopped when Acornpaw was again on the ground. ~ GRACKLEPAW MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0 Lyrics: Attack - 30 Seconds to Mars Tag: Taxx

CINDERPAW NIGHTCLAN rather be the hunter than the prey
Like twin shadows, the siblings sat facing Acornpaw, who was staring between them with wariness obvious in his gaze. Lip curling, Cinderpaw made no effort to hide his feelings at the older apprentice's poor skills and apprehension. He nodded along with Gracklepaw's statements, backing her up fully, adding a snort of derision at the end of it and then rising to his paws, the fur on his body bushing out to make himself look even larger as Gracklepaw spat her last two words before springing at Acornpaw once more.
Cinderpaw sprang with her, but he let Gracklepaw tackle Acornpaw from the front while he circled around to bat at the older tom's back paws, tripping him up every time he tried to find his balance. It wasn't too long before he was back on the ground, panting as he stared at the siblings, his ears pinned back as he flicked a quick glance around. His expression brightened as he caught the voice of a warrior, glad that this 'training' was coming to an end, because it didn't feel very much like training as much as it felt like the two taking a chance to beat him for their own amusement.

Coalmask! NightClan Warriors Thirty-three Moons
TAG Taxx @zen for Mousepaw mention WORDS count here NOTES probably three times lol | They had a late start, Coalmask had gotten caught up with talking with a few older warriors and their shared disdain for TreeClan. It was Mousepaw that reminded him that they were late and he quickly joined his young apprentice. Annoyed at himself for being late, hearing his mother's voice in the back of his head. No matter how many moons it had been since his nursery days, he still could hear her disapproving tone.
Leading Mousepaw through the territory, his unannounced arrival was almost perfect. Warning Mousepaw of a trick root that often tripped those who didn't know about it. He was able to watch with a cold detached gaze as Acornpaw was taken to the ground.
Partial to his own kin, Coalmask had a small smile. Pride built in his chest, his sister's kits were shaping up to be fine examples of future strong warriors.
Approaching the group he offered a nod in greeting, watching as Acornpaw pulled his last bit of dignity off the ground and rose back to his paws. Gracklepaw stood proudly before her uncle, tail lashing back and forth as she waited for either praise or permission to go again.
"It seems that you two are causing quite a stir," He meowed to his kin, dull-hued eyes settling on Cinderpaw and Gracklepaw. "Mousepaw, take Acornpaw back to camp. Let him get some fresh kill," He dismissed his apprentice with ease. She had trained earlier in the day and only had joined him in case he needed a similarly sized cat. But after watching Cinderpaw and Gracklepaw spar, he had other ideas.
"You two against me, claws sheathed," He reminded Gracklepaw before taking a few steps back to give them some starting room.
Gracklepaw gave a look to her brother before an excited expression overcame her and she darted forward. Failing to wait for Cinderpaw. Which ended up being a big mistake.
Coalmask took after his mother, far more suited for hunting and tracking prey but Gracklepaw rushed him with reckless abandon. Easily countered by him using her momentum against her. Sidestep and pivoting on his hind paws, Coalmask shoulder checked the young she-cat. The only sound that escaped her was a grunt as she collided with the firm frame that was Coalmask's mass. Anger built quickly as she tried to swat at him but he proved to be unyielding. His larger paw came to catch her forepaw, forcing her into a defensive posture. She stumbled back slightly but didn't want to give up so easily. Lunging again, Coalmask took a few steps back before swiping again, his time taking her off balance entirely. Forcing her to stumble down.
A squeak followed by an annoyed growl escaped her as Coalmask stood over her, his detached look having returned.
"Fury alone won't make you a good fighter. Its take skill and practice." He told her coldly, shifting his gaze to Cinderpaw. "How many times could I have killed her if this was a true fight?" He asked Cinderpaw, expecting an honest answer from his nephew.

CINDERPAW NIGHTCLAN rather be the hunter than the prey
Acornpaw was all too happy to take the out given him by Coalmask; he darted away toward the camp with Mousepaw trailing behind. Cinderpaw watched the two go before fixing his gaze back to his uncle and blinking. Both of them? He wasn't entirely sure of their chances of winning, but before he could mention that, Gracklepaw had already sprung.
This time, Cinderpaw held back. Acornpaw had been easy, but Coalmask was a warrior and had been for moons; two apprentices, even one as aggressive as Gracklepaw, were no match for a seasoned fighter. He watched, amused, as his sister was flung to the ground and lay there, panting and hissing. Cinderpaw met the older tom's gaze, yellow eyes flicking down to Gracklepaw again as his tail flicked. "At least once," he replied, "which would be enough. But warriors don't kill without reason, isn't that right?"
A hint of cheek layered by fact and a purr of amusement. Cinderpaw sat, laying his tail over his paws, and blinked up at Coalmask for his reply.

Coalmask's head dipped in agreement with Cinderpaw's words. "Right, warriors are not cat-killers, we defend our Clan and our way of life. True warriors spill blood when they have to and not because their claws itch," His were cold as before. Gracklepaw maneuvered out of her uncle's reach and stood hardly a tail-length away. Glaring at him with an intensity that rivaled a small flame.
"Let's go again," She demanded, claws extending into the dirt at her paws. Pride motivated her, she wasn't happy having been bested so easily.
"No, you will only make the same mistake again," He told her, she scoffed, her claws digging deeper. "It is Cinderpaw's turn, you held back last time. This time you take me on your own, same rules as before," He directed the tom-cat taking a few backward steps to give them some space. Gracklepaw gave a half-hearted growl before sitting, tail lashing in the dust behind her.

CINDERPAW NIGHTCLAN rather be the hunter than the prey
He knew the warrior code that spoke of honor, of mercy- it was supposed to set them apart from the loners and rogues that inhabited the valley- conducting their actions to show kindness when an enemy was beaten. Gracklepaw, though defeated, was not ready to give up so easily; her request to try again was denied and Coalmask turned to Cinderpaw, instructing him to try this time.
A slow frown crossed the younger tom's face and he swept a rapid glance across his uncle's body. Coalmask was bigger, older, more experienced. He stood firm, not favoring any paws, had no injuries that might be used against him. However, his size also meant he'd be a bit slower, bulk exchanged for agility, and despite his own sturdiness, Cinderpaw might just be able to outmaneuver him. Breaking into a run, Cinderpaw raced around the tom, who spun in a circle to keep an eye on him; Coalmask stumbled and it was all the apprentice needed. He skidded to a halt, hurling himself at his uncle and clasping his paws on the older tom's wide shoulders while his jaws snapped shut on his scruff- or tried to, at least; the thick coat made that hard.
He had intended to try to wrestle Coalmask's head to the ground, pinning him down, but before he could manage it he felt Coalmask kick up his hind legs, tucking his head and throwing himself right over on his back, his heavy body nearly crushing Cinderpaw's into the ground. He squawked in surprise, jaws free of their grip, and flailed his paws at the air until Coalmask rolled off and let him back to his feet. Shaking out his fur, Cinderpaw smoothed down the ruffled pelt of his shoulder and blinked at his uncle, silent while waiting for his review on Cinderpaw's attempt.

Coalmask! NightClan Warriors Thirty-three Moons
WORDS count here NOTES end?? |
He had just heartbeats to prepare. Relying on his training as any good warrior, Coalmask let his muscle memory take control. However, his muscles were more attuned for hunting. Keeping his eyes on fast-moving prey. He wasn't a bad fighter but if he was compared to a better fighter it would be easy to tell the difference.
Using his skills at good timing, Coalmask rolled forward. The momentum worked in his favor and had Cinderpaw off his back and another victory, not that it mattered. He was there to train his sister's kits, not for an ego boost.
Shaking his own pelt clean, his eyes settled on Cinderpaw. A hint of pride burning low in them. "You did well, you saw your chance and took it. You got the upper-paw by waiting and watching. A skill every warrior should have," Coalmask told him, shifting his gaze to Gracklepaw, a not to subtle way to point out her flaw.
"We should head back and get something to eat," He told him the moment after Gracklepaw's stomach growled. The aggressive she-cat gave a huff as she prepared to protest but Coalmask silently shushed her by simply walking away, expecting them to follow. Gracklepaw mumbled something about wanting to train some more but it went ignored.
At their arrival at camp, Coalmask waited for Cinderpaw to enter before stopping the young tom. "Your mother would have been very proud of you today even if you didn't beat me. Try to remember it's not always about winning. Sometimes you have to take the loss so you can live to win another day," His words had an unusual fondness to them. As if he had mused on them the entire walk back to camp. Flicking his heavily plumed tail over Cinderpaw's shoulder, Coalmask departed from his nephew's presence.

CINDERPAW NIGHTCLAN rather be the hunter than the prey
Coalmask's words were met with a blink; another cat- Acornpaw, perhaps- might have tried to rub in his almost-victory, but Cinderpaw only dipped his head. He accepted what his uncle said, but he knew he hadn't won. His attempt had been close, but close didn't matter in hunts and battles; only if you caught the prey or beat your enemy were you truly deserving of praise. Still.
Rising to all fours, the fluffy tom padded along after the warrior and his sister, reaching out to nudge the black tabby on her shoulder. "I'll train with you, if you want. We're more evenly matched than you and Coalmask are. If you want," he added on, and gave the warrior another nod as he padded off into the camp. "Let's eat first. I don't know about you, but my stomach's empty as the space between Acornpaw's ears. Then we can train."
