L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire It was cool in the den, shaded and lit by the sun poking through cracks in the ceiling and from the entrance. Lynxpaw had been lying in her nest and staring toward it since she'd woken, cheek resting on the side of her nest and just eyeing the limited view of the camp and the cats that padded back and forth.
She'd had a mouse after her usual morning check-up, the herbs plastered to her leg removed and replaced with fresh ones and secured with enough cobweb to suit all the spiders in all the territories. A dose of herbs (ugh!) and then a juicy mouse that hadn't tasted nearly as good as it could have after those bitter leaves.
It hardly hurt anymore. The open wounds had closed, and the risk of infection had dwindled drastically by this time. Her shoulder felt stiff, her leg sore, but that was it. She felt fine. So why couldn't she go out?
She wasn't going to lie here like she had directly after the attack. It'd been days on days, and she was going to go out of her mind if she had to keep on like this. A little walk couldn't hurt, surely?
Kindleflare had stepped out for a moment not too long ago, leaving Tigerpaw behind to do... herb things. The she-cat lifted her head, peeking over at her brother and wondering just how involved he was in his task. Or if he would notice the moment she got up. Except, why should she try to be sneaky about it? Did they really expect her to lie here forever?
"Tigerpaw!" she called to him. "I'm going out. I'm going crazy in here, I don't know how you two can stand being stuck in here day in and day out." She carefully rolled to her belly as she spoke, not quite hiding the wince as her leg caught in a painful position before she could fix it. "I'm not asking, either. You can come with me, though." And you're gonna hear me roar @zen Notes

Can you hear my heartbeat? Tired of feeling never enough...
Whereas the knowledge Kindleflare had imparted to him as a kit had been sporadic, whatever she happened to be working with that day, now that he was officially her apprentice there was a bit more structure to his lessons. It certainly made sense to Tigerpaw to learn the herbs that he could find within LightningClan's territory first. There were so many herbs they had to start somewhere, and ones he was going to be seeing most often were the logical starting point. So he was going through their herb stores, by scent mostly, and pulling out a leaf or two here and there for further inspection if scent alone was not enough, and practicing identifying those that he knew, trying to remember where they were found and what they did, how they were used, before carefully pushing them back into place.
Tansy, he thought, confident, for the plant had quite a strong smell, It's used for curing coughs, but can only be used in small doses. It's found all over LightningClan territory and it's easy to spot cuz it has bright yellow flowers. He paused in between each herb, identified or not, to cast a look back at his sister where she lay in her nest before moving on to the next one. Pushing the tansy back with the rest of their store of the plant, she pulled out a couple leaves from the next pile and leaned over to sniff them gently, frowning in concentration. He pawed at one, considering. He knew this one. It was another one that was common in their territory. What was it called?
Of course, ever since they'd come back from the medicine cat meeting Tigerpaw had been a bit distracted from learning new herbs, considering the injuries his mother and sister had sustained only the day after due an encounter with a fox. His experience at the Moon Tree had followed him home, and it had taken one of his mother's lives. His mother had died. He still couldn't quite wrap his mind around that fact, considering that Firestar was still with them. Of course he knew leaders had nine lives, but he had never really put much thought into just what that meant before.
Firestar had died. Firestar had nine lives. Lynxpaw, however....
Thyme! He sighed in relief as the name suddenly came to him. For anxiety and frayed nerves. With a soft snort to himself, he thought perhaps he should ask Kindleflare if he shouldn't be taking thyme on a regular basis. Maybe he wouldn't be so scared all the time. He'd like that. Staring down at the little leaf, he sighed again, wishing he could figure out how to braver without having to medicate himself. Thyme wouldn't really make him brave anyway, just make him less... worried? Was it even remotely the same? He wasn't sure.
His sister's call drew his attention and he hastily pushed the thyme leaf back into place and padded over to her to see if she needed anything, but instead she announced she was going out because she was bored. “Ah... b-but... you can't! You're supposed to rest...,” he trailed off as she stated she wasn't asking, ears flicking back uncertainly. Should he make her stay in her nest? Better question, could he? He sighed again when that answer quickly came to him. He would have to ask Kindleflare how she made sick and injured cats stay in their nests when they didn't want to. Surely Lynxpaw wasn't the only bored and impatient patient the medicine cat had ever had.
“Uhm... well...,” he tried to think of something that would get her stay, but short of sitting on her he could think of nothing, and that wouldn't be good for her injuries either. And then she'd probably start squirming and trying to get him off as well, which also wouldn't help. Giving in, he stepped up beside her, “Let me help you at least. Just a short walk, okay? Kindleflare said too much strain and the wounds could tear back open, and then you'll be stuck here even longer.” Hopefully that threat would help her swallow some pride and at least allow him to help her along.

L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire Rest! She'd been resting, day after day, as her wounds slowly closed and her shoulder and leg mended. She was going to throw a fit if someone insisted on her resting any longer. At least Tigerpaw quickly grasped that she wasn't going to be told no, and he agreed to go with her. At last!
She gave a frown at his warning, flashing a look at her brother to see if he was lying in an effort to convince her to go at his pace, but the look on his face was open and sincere. And worried. Of course he was; she could only imagine what he'd been thinking when she and Firestar had been brought back to camp in such bad conditions.
Tearing her gaze away, Lynxpaw rolled her eyes as if he had asked for the sun and groaned in a drawn-out way. "Finneeee. I'll be careful, but I'm not lying in here like all my legs are broken any longer." And, with a brief brush of her nose against his ear, Lynxpaw began to make her way out of the medicine den. It was awkward, balancing on three legs while trying not to jostle the injured leg, and more than once squeaks of pain escaped her but were quickly squashed.
It got easier quickly, adjusting her stride to keep from jarring the leg as much as possible, and it was only a moment before the two had entered the camp. Lifting her head, Lynxpaw basked in the bright warmth of the sun, feeling it soak into her fur- startlingly hot after the cool darkness of the medicine den.
"Hey, what's been going on? New kits, new apprentices? Oh, no!" Lynxpaw wailed, a sudden thought striking her. "I'm not going to be able to make it to this Gathering, am I? Not with this leg." And she'd so been looking forward to it, hoping that she'd be able to go.
She sighed in irritation, then turned to her brother, leaning closer to begin sharing tongues with him. "How's your training going?" she asked, pulling back a bit to listen to his answer. And you're gonna hear me roar @zen Notes

Can you hear my heartbeat? Tired of feeling never enough...
Lynxpaw agreed to take it easy and he let out a sigh of relief, keeping close to her side as she made her way out of the medicine den, in case she needed to lean on him, but he was sure his headstrong sister would do her best to walk on her own rather than rely on his help. As the two them stepped out into the sunlight, he studied her a moment as she enjoyed the warmth on her pelt, and thought maybe a bit of sun might be good for her. As long as she didn't try sprinting across camp or something.
He laughed at her questions, as if she'd been locked away for moons with no contact with the rest of the Clan. But before he could tell her that she hadn't missed anything important and there was no new anything to his knowledge, she suddenly wailed and he squeaked in alarm. He immediately thought she might have hurt her leg and looked over at it, afraid he'd allowed her to move around too soon, but instead she complained that she wouldn't be able to go to the next gathering.
His ears flicked back against his head at the thought. Why did she have to remind him? The medicine cat meeting wasn't terrible, but a gathering? With so many cats from different Clans he didn't know? And not just peaceful medicine cats but fierce warriors and leaders and deputies? He'd gladly trade places with his sister and stay behind. Then his ears flicked forward at the thought, “H-hey. Since you won't be able to go... I could stay behind with you. I... I wouldn't want to go to my first gathering without you....” He didn't want to go at all.
As her tongue rasped over his fur, he purred softly and returned the gesture, short tail flicking behind him as she asked about his training. “It's going great,” he replied, trying not to think too hard about the warning he'd received at the medicine cat meeting. “It... it actually wasn't that bad, meeting the other medicine cats. Sandblaze is from StoneClan and he seemed nice, and so did Shadowchaser, even though he's from NightClan. TreeClan's medicine cat wasn't there though....” His ears twitched with some concern, “I hope TreeClan is okay.” Shaking his head, he continued, fondness for his mentor evident in his tone, “Kindleflare is great. She's teaching me a lot. She's the best mentor.”

L Y N X P A W I've got the eye of a fighter Dancing through the fire Still irritated at the fact that she wouldn’t be able to make it to this Gathering, Lynxpaw’s stub tail lashed, an annoyed glare at the leg bound tight by herbs and cobweb. Tigerpaw’s words drew her attention, and her mouth dropped open as he offered to stay behind with her. “Stay?!” she repeated, snorting in denial. “No! You have to go, to tell me everything that happens.”
She listened, then, as he described his meeting with the other medicine cats, ears pricked and eyes widening as he mentioned Sandblaze and Shadowchaser, telling her that they’d seemed nice but wondering if they were really. She’d never heard anything good from the talk she’d heard about NightClan, and it made sense that their medicine cat would be just like the rest. “TreeClan’s didn’t show? At all?” Was that typical? Why would a medicine cat not go to a meeting?
“That’s great.” Lynxpaw steamrolled right over her brother’s praise for Kindleflare. “But see, this is why you’ve gotta go to the Gathering, to find out what’s up with TreeClan’s medicine cat. He wouldn’t miss a Gathering, Lionstar wouldn’t let him do that. Go and find out, then come back and tell me.” Her eyes narrowed, a more wicked look sparking in her gaze. “If you don’t, I’ll keep you on your paws the whole time. Don’t think I won’t.” And you're gonna hear me roar @zen Notes

Can you hear my heartbeat? Tired of feeling never enough...
Ears flattening at Lynxpaw's insistence that he attend the gathering without her, Tigerpaw sighed. He had thought she would agree, that she wouldn't want him going without her. He'd been wrong. “But, Lynxpaw... plenty of other cats will go... one of them could tell you what happens...,” he insisted softly, “It... it wouldn't be fair for me to go.... And what if you need something while I'm gone? I... I should definitely stay with you.” Surely she would agree now?
He shook his head as his sister inquired about the TreeClan medicine cat, and jumped on it as further reason he should stay with her, “Sometimes medicine cats have to skip meetings and gatherings because they have cats in camp that they need to stay with.” Lynxpaw wasn't really that helpless at this point, but what if his sister used the time to herself to over exert herself and then her recovery took longer? He was convinced someone should stay with her, and that someone should be him.
It seemed she had an argument for that too, however, and his ears flattened against his head once more as she badgered him to go. “How do you know what Lionstar would do?” he murmured, almost under his breath. Shifting anxiously, he sighed again, “If I go... promise you'll stay in your nest while I'm gone?” He looked over at her pleadingly, “I know you hate it, but the more rest you get, the quicker you'll heal and get to go back to training. That's what you want, isn't it?”
