Newleaf Day Six: As the icy grip of leafbare loosens its hold on the Valley and newleaf rapidly approaches, cats are encouraged to take advantage of the warmer days and the return of prey, but with the heat comes a warning, beware of snow slides!!Teller of the Mountain Sky Skyteller had been watching the kits of Light's litter bouncing around in play, noting the differences in their movements: Stag, bigger and solid; Song, smaller but quite sturdy herself; Rock, his bad leg dragging uselessly, and Eagle, who quite often tripped over herself but bounced back into the fray over and over. They were growing fast, but there was still some time before they would be ready for trainers- no matter how impatient they might be. It was safer in the cave, and he was glad that none of them had tried to sneak out. Was it too soon to start thinking of trainers now? Perhaps- there were still moons left before they would be old enough to become to-bes. He'd think on it, though, and in watching them, he was learning about their distinct personalities, to match with those who would both compliment and challenge them all at once. His gaze flicked to the cave entrance, spotting Dusk and Snow as the two padded in, and interest pricked at him as they spotted him and approached. News? Not bad, surely, they looked too excited to be about to tell him something bad. Sitting up, Skyteller waited for them to come closer and greeting them as they crossed the last tail-lengths. "Dusk, Snow. How can I help you? You look as though you've got something to tell me," he purred, his gaze moving back and forth between them and waiting for one to begin. Fawn Phoenix |

Dusk that Shrouds the Forest If you get lost you can always be found Prey-Hunter, 51 Moons "We do," Dusk purred a reply, sharing a warm look at Snow. It was exciting, discovering a fresh area of the Tribe's territory - especially one that looked to hold a bounty of prey and herbs, so long as they did not mind the trek through the cave. "Snow and I explored the blocked cave at the top of the slope. I was expecting to find prey or predators, but we found a whole lot more."
After the long shadows and gloomy drips of the cavern, the meadowed slopes on the other side had been like a blessing. "The cave leads straight through to the other side of the mountains." Dusk, who had never cared to be the center of attention for anything, saw a few curious eyes and ears begin to direct their way. The Cave-Guards in particular looked interested.
Dusk's tail flicked nervously, his excitement tempered by sudden shyness. Here he was, getting as excited as an apprentice on their first day of training. He'd already embarrassed himself once by passing out in front of Snow; the Tribe was used to his quirky ailment, but that didn't lessen the mortification every time it happened in public.
"It would be better if we showed you," Dusk looked at Snow, wanting to confer that he had made the right choice. "There are herbs to be gathered, too. Maybe bring a To-Be with us to help carry some home?" Skyteller didn't have an apprentice; Dusk had a feeling he and Snow would be preoccupied with investigating the new area for prime hunting spots. Wouldn't hurt to have an extra set of jaws on the trip to help out.

Teller of the Mountain Sky The blocked cave? Skyteller’s ears flicked in surprise; he’d heard of it, but neither he or anyone else had felt so inclined to venture into the dark tunnel with no good reason. It was a surprise to be told that it led somewhere, instead of coming to a dead end. Through the other side? He waited for Dusk to continue, but the prey-hunter offered instead to show him, and Skyteller was intrigued enough to agree. News of new herb patches was always something to investigate. “A to-be, yes, good idea. And a cave-guard, just in case… Rose!” he called, catching sight of the she-cat across the cavern, and then lowered his voice as he glanced at Snow. “Fetch Leopard for me, Snow.” With a short nod, the white she-cat bounded off toward where the to-bes lounged when not training, coming to a halt before the spotted young tom. “Skyteller wants you,” she informed him. “We- Dusk and I- found something and he’d like you to come with us.”“Us too?” Roar asked, ears pricking as he asked the question, his sister Leaf also perking up. Both wilted as Snow shook her head, flashing envious glances at Leopard. “Maybe I’ll take you two later on,” Snow added, knowing how disappointing it must be to get left behind. “The meadow isn’t going anywhere, after all.” A flick of her tail at Leopard and then she turned back to where Skyteller was now waiting by the cave entrance, Dusk and Rose at his side. “Snow, you’ll stay,” the ginger tom told her, and she paused, caught off guard. “Dusk can show me just as well, and I want to keep the number of prey-hunters to a minimum. Are you ready, Leopard?” he added, switching his gaze to the young tom; Snow sat, her gaze flashing to Dusk, but knowing better than to try to talk her way into going along. She could fight, if she had to, but this wasn’t a Clan and she wasn’t a fighter in the Tribe’s eyes. Skyteller led the way from the cave, the other three following, and turned his paws toward the cave, moving cautiously despite his excitement, knowing that even he wasn’t immune to the dangers that lurked in the mountains. leopard who walks in shadow The world was such a loud place. Camp was always filled with the constant chatter of friends greeting each other or families sharing stories; one could not walk five steps, especially him, especially now, without hearing one’s name called out from the side. Everyone expressed their concern and offered their condolences for his loss, and he accepted them as graciously as he could – it was what she would want, after all, him making friends rather than enemies – while pretending that he did not see the pity in their eyes as he turned away. They meant well. They wanted to offer him comfort, but they only made him miss his mother more. Fond memories of many pleasant afternoons spent in her quiet company rose to the surface of his mind, and swallowing past the knot that had suddenly formed in his throat, Leopard tried not to look as though his bedrock was no longer as sturdy as it once was; appearing so lost in response to Roar’s enthusiastic story about some legendary cave guard would only make it more obvious that he hadn’t exactly been listening. Oh, how he yearned for the gentle rasp of Cherrypool’s tongue across his ears and the press of her fur against his as she murmured to him words for his ears alone. Even as she encouraged him to make friends with his peers, she knew that he always preferred her company to theirs. So it with was no small amount of relief that he looked around to see a familiar she-cat approaching their little group. Snow’s appearance had Roar trailing off into silence, and Leopard could feel the other tom’s golden eyes watching him as he listened to the former clan cat’s words. “Okay,” He responded, climbing to his paws as curiosity began to catch hold. What could Snow and Dusk have found that required the presence of him – and, according to the answer to Roar’s question, specifically him – as well as Skyteller? His training under Peregrine had only just begun, and though his mother had ensured that he could defend himself from a young age, he could do little else. Mom. The constant ache in his heart only grew as his thoughts strayed toward the albino she-cat once more. Perhaps that was his answer; perhaps they were simply trying to keep him busy to take his mind off of recent events. The spotted to-be followed Snow to the entrance of the cave, where Skyteller stood with Rose and Dusk. Politely, the young tom acknowledged the trio with a nod and a quiet greeting, and his interest only grew as Skyteller dismissed the prey-hunter. Pale blue eyes watched her depart, only jumping back to the Tribe healer at the sound of his name. “Yes,” He confirmed, and as they made their way from the cave, he fell into step beside the others. There was a moment of silence before his curiosity got the better of him. Clearing his throat, Leopard asked, “Where are we going? Snow mentioned a meadow."BlooRey DVD Taxx Fawn don't you tell me what you think that i can be. i'm the one at the sail. i'm the master of my sea.

Dusk that Shrouds the Forest If you get lost you can always be found Prey-Hunter, 54 Moons "But we--" Dusk caught himself, remembering his place in relation to Skyteller. That the Tribe's leader lacked nine lives didn't make him any less of a cat worth following. Skyteller wanted Snow to stay, and they all had to accept that. Dusk's gaze found the ginger-pointed she-cat, sharing a melancholy look with her. It had been a long walk through the tunnel, and in turn, through their memories.
It felt strange to make that journey now without her.
Collecting himself, and realizing he was the one leading the group to their discovery, Dusk glanced at the assembled cats. Everyone looked ready to depart, the spotted tom even confirming as much with a quiet 'yes'. Dusk flicked his tail, taking the first step out of the oasis and onto the proper path.
"Snow and I found a new place at the end of the tunnel. It gets narrow just before it lets out into the meadow, so we'll have to go single file." Dusk answered Leopard's inquisitive mew from the group, adding a final thought before he concentrated on retracing his steps. "Please be careful, everyone." He had not been a member of the Tribe when their old home had collapsed.
But he had heard the stories, from those that survived. Being in a tunnel didn't bother him, he had spent his whole life in a cavern, but that was because he never had cause to doubt the cavern's stability. The others, though...

Tribe of Forgotten Waters, 43 Moons, Cave-Guard Somehow, her worst nightmare had come true. Peregrine was off on some tangent, explaining the very relevant, and extraordinarily fascinating differences between the bone structures and sizes of kestrels and peregrines. How on earth such a topic of conversation had come up was beyond her; one of the two other attending cats must have been stupid enough to mention one of the two birds. And evidently, they'd been wrong about it, for now Light and Storm were caught listening to Peregrine drone on. And the biggest problem here was that, because of the presence of the Kit-Mother and Cave Guard, she couldn't tell Peregrine to shut her intolerable maw.
Although a pleasant smile was plastered to her features, the ginger she-cat's teeth were so tightly clenched that her jaw began to throb. Oh, how she wanted nothing more than to strike that leggy she-cat across the muzzle and send her off to count the markings along the cavern floor. How had this, this... Eagledung-brained she-cat ended up as her sister? Oh, the stars must have been sneering at her, for there was no other explanation as to why Rose would be forced to endure such torture for the remainder of her life.
Or, at least, the remainder of Peregrine's life. Now that was a fascinating thought indeed.
A different voice shook her from her imagined scenarios involving Peregrine's untimely, and oh-so-unfortunate demise. A ginger ear flicked as she glanced over her shoulder to see Rumble - apparently, she was obligated to call him by his new and privileged name now - Skyteller beckoning her. Rising to her paws, she glanced back to the three other cats who's company she'd been entrapped with for far too long. "Oh, I do hate to miss the end of this, dear sister, but duty calls!" She purred, her voice just a little too lilting.
An apologetic batting of her eyelashes was her last farewell, before she turned on her paws and stalked away. It was only as she closed the distance between herself and Skyteller that she took note of Dusk's presence, and Leopard's approach. Great. She escaped Peregrine for what? To play kitsitter to Skyteller, Peregrine's best pal, and the cat unfortunate enough to be under Peregrine's tutelage. The stars were definitely laughing at her. Stifling the snarl that wanted so desperately to escape, the long-furred ginger she-cat set her features into that trademark smile. That smile that, if you really considered her, looked a little too fake, a little too forced.
But you wouldn't dare question your Tribe-mate's motives, would you?
"My, what a fun little group we have here! What are we off to do today, hm?" She trilled, her tail waving slowly behind her. As Dusk went on to explain the situation, she cocked her head in what was generally understood as fascination. "Goodness me, it sounds as if you've found a treasure trove! You will warn us when the path begins to narrow, yes? Because I would feel so much better if I could take the lead at that point. To make sure nothing is waiting for us in the tunnels, of course."
In reality, she could scowl to her heart's content at the front of the group, with no one to see the expression of pure disdain coloring her ginger features. Glancing toward Skyteller, the Cave Guard added. "And, only if you are inclined to agree, Skyteller, I believe you should take the rear at that point. After all, you too were a Cave Guard once," Perhaps his most redeeming character. Her thoughts snorted. "And you would be most qualified to defend the rear of the line. Dusk should be behind me, in case he must quickly tell me something important regarding the cave. Leopard directly in front of you, Skyteller, to best keep him safe."
It was a perfectly logical plan. If she could have it her way without drawing suspicion, she would place Dusk at the very end of the line. Keep him as far from her as possible. Leopard would likely be closest to her, for he had yet to prove himself annoying or incompetent. Though, under Peregrine's teachings, that couldn't be too far behind.
How had she gotten stuck with a kitsitting job. She'd almost rather be listening to Peregrine's insufferable voice. This is going to be just great. My heart's an artifice, a decoy soul. I lift you up and then I let you go.
