There was a heat to the den that brought the young tom out of his sleep. He had squeaked at his littermates for being too close, the warmth pushed into him by their proximity, but neither had responded as they were asleep. Like I should be, Privetkit had thought. Now though, waiting for someone to wake up, he sprawled in the entrance, bright eyes absorbing everything he could of the sights in front of him. It wasn’t that interesting, as he did not know yet what the other cats were doing, nor why they seemed to make so much noise when they interacted. There was a flow though, and that was the interesting part. He had watched this stream of souls for several days and found a rhythm that was oddly soothing. The grey cat would come out of the noisy den then gather a bleary collection of cats together. After some sort of speech, the cats would disperse, and the currents began to move faster as their tasks drove them around camp, out of camp, wherever. Privetkit privately wished something would happen to interrupt the stream. Soon, he felt, he would memorize their paths, then what would he do with his free time?

The kit sighed, yawning wide into the afternoon sun. With a stretch, he stood, and searched for his siblings. He didn’t have to go far but even that proved too be too much for him, paws tangling in the small brambles as he spun around. Privetkit let out a wail, high pitched in alarm at the sudden tilt of the world. The more he moved, the more his limbs got tangled, two paws on either side ending up caught up before Privetkit had to stop for breath. I didn’t want the action to be me! He thought in distress, hoping one of his siblings or Starlingcry would come rescue him soon from the brambled entrance.

GRACKLEKIT

Nestled beside her grandmother, Gracklekit slept peacefully beside her siblings but a sudden squeak alerted her. Opening one eye to peak at Privetkit she growled at his current state of wakefulness. Why didn't he want to sleep in? Unamused by his antics, Gracklekit attempted to tuck in closer to Cinderkit and Starlingcry.

It was then she realized why Privetkit had woken up. Cinderkit was a small heater, uncomfortable to say the least. Groaning she sat up and glared down at her brother with contempt. "Why do you have the thickest fur?" She wanted aloud but decided against it. The last thing she needed was another cuff to her ears from Starlingcry or worse, a lecture.

She had already gotten in trouble the day before when she played too rough with another queen's kits. Her ears still burned from the shame of her grandmother's words, not that it did any good. Once the other queen turned her back to talk to Starlingcry in great lengths, Gracklekit was quick to nip at the rival kit's tail. A warning not to cry to mommy anymore.

Pulling her attention away from Cinderkit and in search of Privetkit, she didn't have to look far. In fact, she didn't really need to look. She heard his frantic mewling, prompting the she-kit to stalker forward in his direction.

Watching him struggle for a minute she giggled to herself, before alerting her brother to her presence. "You won't make it far if you get your paws stuck in bramble before you even leave the nursery. You'd soon be fox food." Her taunt was meant to hurt but it didn't stop her from moving closer to inspect the mess he caused for himself. "Hold still you frog-brain and I'll get you out," Her small mouth was already at work pulling the worst of the bramble away from her brother's legs. However, it wasn't done carefully and it would be a miracle if he walked away without small scratches to his legs.

Even before he came fully awake, Cinderkit knew that neither sibling was at his side. The lack of fur pressed to his own, the absence of the soft sighs of his brother and sister: these all pointed to the obvious fact. It was, however, the wail that rang out that had a greater affect on him and the large dark brown kit was on his paws so quickly that a wave of dizziness made him stumble. Shaking his head to clear it, his sharp amber gaze swiveled about to pin on Privetkit, and he headed toward his smaller brother.

“Don’t tease him, Gracklekit,” the young tom scolded lightly. “Just hold still, little brother.” He pressed his nose gently to Privetkit’s cheek and swiped his tongue over one floppy ear. “Gracklekit and I will soon have you out of there.” It didn’t occur to him to ask an older cat to help- between him and his headstrong sister, they’d help their smaller brother. They didn’t need a warrior to swoop in and rescue Privetkit, not even their grandmother.

Peering closely at what his sister was doing, Cinderkit refrained from sticking his paws in and ruining her effort, simply keeping up a raspy purr to soothe Privetkit. “That should do it,” he stated, when the brambles had been cleared from Privetkit’s paws, and he beckoned his brother to step forward.

His wail was successful, Privetkit's littermates coming to the rescue quicker than the small tom expected. He struggled for a moment when Gracklekit appeared, skin hot under his fur from her words. Of course he knew he would be fox food if this continued! His words jammed in his throat as he tried to tell her this, instead resulting in a grumpy noise similar to the fox's bark. But her larger paws worked quickly against his smaller ones, freeing the brambles that stuck fast in his fur. It wasn't the smoothest return to freedom, but he figured that was the price he paid for getting stuck in the first place, though he whined at the pain. Then his brother came as well, tongue gentle against his face and his words soothing Privet's spirit. As soon as the tom was free, he gave his sister a headbutt and a happy purr as a thank you.

His eyes then glanced back out towards the clearing. The earlier stream had petered out, and it would be a perfect time for his siblings to explore. "es'p-p-plore?" He suggested, finding the single word got out better than an entire sentence.

Eyes narrowed for a split second at Cinderkit's repermand. The last thing she needed was for Cinderkit to start telling her how to act. She got enough of it from the other queens and their grandmother.

Grateful Cinderkit had the foresight not to help her, she finished the rescue with a delighted purr to herself. Pride welled up in her chest, she had saved Privetkit all on her own. Letting her ego surge, Gracklekit was brought back to reality with her brother's headbutt. Her prideful purr shifted to join his, wordlessly expressing her happiness he wasn't injured enough to complain.

Privetkit's stumbling had her head tilting to the side until she was able to put it together what he wanted to do. "Explore? Hm..I think we could find something to do. I think I heard an apprentice talk about a gap in the camp wall. Maybe we find a way out." She suggested turning to step toward her brothers, waiting for them to join her.

Privetkit stepped clear of the entangling brambles, and after a brief look-over to make sure he hadn't scratched himself, Cinderkit relaxed. His younger brother was fine, and his older sister looking quite pleased that she had been the one to free him, all on her own. With that done, Cinderkit might have suggested breakfast- sharing a nice, plump squirrel- but Privetkit mentioned a desire to explore and Gracklekit was quick to seize it and mention getting out of the camp.

The young brown tom frowned. They weren't supposed to leave camp, and Gracklekit knew that as well as he did. "I'm sure there are places to explore in camp. It's dangerous out there, and Starlingcry will be worried if she wakes and she can't find us. Why don't we eat first?" he suggested, trying to walk a middle ground between coaxing his headstrong sister into a wiser course of action without making it seem like he was ordering her about; he knew how she hated to be told what to do like she had no mind of her own. "Then we can find something to do- maybe one of the apprentices wouldn't mind showing us some moves? Brindlepaw and Crowpaw are nice."
