He needed out of camp again. He felt trapped here, in this place and this life that was his own. Getting away from camp was his only solace, his only means of forcing himself to push through his ongoing misery and attempt to remain a functional member of the clan. He didn't want to. He didn't want to pick an apprentice. He didn't want to deal with other cats, listen to the elders complain about their aches and pains. He didn't want to do his duty. But he did. He completed every task presented to him, handled the pains and sickness his clan presented him with. But he wasn't talking to anyone outside of in a very professional manner. He hadn't spoken willingly to anyone since Honeysong tried to coax him into picking his own escorts to the last medicine cat meeting. He knew he had to get past this, to make himself move on. Broken hearts were par the course when it came to being the medicine cat. StarClan didn't want their medicine cats to be happy. All they cared about was their outdated views and laws and the Code. And Falconstorm had to live inside of that.
The blue eyed tom left camp without saying a word to anyone, as was his norm these days, intending on heading for the border. Except that his paws lead him in another direction, to automatically performing his duties as he'd noted they were low on certain TreeClan growing herbs and he should go ahead and gather them before greenleaf killed them off with the heat. It was also hot, and as a long haired cat this wasn't the most comfortable for him. Still he persisted onward, letting his paws take him away from camp.
Soon, he told himself, soon he'd go see Kindleflare. She'd know what to do, what to say. Maybe she wouldn't know what he was going through on a personal level, but she was his friend. She would at least give him a straight answer from a source he otherwise didn't have; a fellow medicine cat. He saw her as sort of like Bluejay, a grown mentor despite their ages. He wasn't sure if he was older than Kindleflare like he had been to Bluejay, but it was a thought. She seemed like she was younger. She was so pure and sweet and somewhat naive. And he adored her very much all the same.
