He was supposed to be gathering herbs, he knew that, but for today Sandblaze just wanted to wander around StoneClan's massive territory and let his mind wonder for a bit. He had a lot to think about and doing something that wasn't related to his duties as Medicine Cat was a good way for him to relax and try to focus his mind on other things. So today he decided he'd go for a walk and maybe do a bit of hunting. He may be a Medicine Cat, but he could still help provide for the clan in other ways if he needed to. Not that he needed to, but he felt the need to do something other than what he'd been doing. He found it hard to explain even to himself, but he didn't worry too much about it. His mother would understand him if he spoke to her, but she had her paws full training her Apprentice.

Sandblaze shook himself to clear his thoughts, instead focusing on the general quiet all around him that came with the normal sounds of nature. Surely there were other cats around these parts but for the moment he wanted to focus on the quietness of being by himself. He'd enjoy company if it came, he always did, but it wasn't his primary focus just then. There was so much to see and smell and discover, and it reminded him of the kit he'd once been and the endless curiosity he'd had about the world around him. He was still that kit, but he'd settled as he'd gotten older and learned that some things could hurt others feelings if he said them. It was...frustrating sometimes but that's how things were.

PETALRAIN

Guilt kept Petalrain out of the camp. Shame for failing to protect Sootpaw kept her busy and avoiding the younger she-cat at all cost. It was one thing for a cat to become blind. An entirely different matter when the injury could have been prevented. Not that Petalrain was certain of that. However, despite no on blaming her, Petalrain blamed herself.

Avoiding the likely call of her name by the very cat she had a paw in maiming, Petalrain left the camp without a word. Her stride carried her sometime before she realized just where she had wandered off to. The shift of scent to add in the softness of underbrush prompted her to slow.

Petalrain wasn't one for hunting in little woods, she disliked the threat of larger birds. The tabby she-cat preferred hunting along the rocky terrain or near the river. Where she could still feel the warm sun on her pelt and not the flicker of it through the leaves.

Pausing when the familiar scent of Sandblaze caught her attention, Petalrain was tempted to turn her tail and walk the other way. Society deemed she show concern for Sootpaw but the anxiety about the situation prevent such expression. Instead, she kept her distance just as she done when her father and siblings were suffering from greencough. Stay away and avoid watching them hurt.

Yet, despite her efforts, Petalrain realized she would likely walk right into Sandblaze's line of sight. Too late to turn back. Tucking her tail and letting her ears flick backward, Petalrain cleared her throat.

"Hey Sandblaze, do you need some help with herbs?" She offered, eyes scanning the nearby area.

Smokestorm

Padding around the trunk of a tree on her way back to camp, Smokestorm paused as she spotted Sandblaze, her head tipping to one side in curiosity. What was their medicine cat doing out here alone? Gathering herbs, maybe? But his gaze was distant, his mind clearly not on his surroundings, and a prickle of annoyance ruffled the fur on the deputy’s spine. He ought to know how dangerous it was, with Demon on the prowl, and here was one of the most important members of their Clan, wandering around with his head in the clouds.

Then she caught sight of Petalrain, just as the other she-cat spoke an offer to help. It eased her irritation somewhat, but still- one warrior against the threat of whatever might be lurking was not nearly enough. Sandblaze might not be completely helpless, but he was far from a trained warrior, and Petalrain was only one cat.

Forcing her fur to lie flat, Smokestorm approached, giving a muffled mew to call to Sandblaze. When she was close enough, she dropped the squirrel she’d caught, tail flicking as she spoke. “Sandblaze. Looking for something? Maybe I can help, too.” She stated the last, making it clear it was no request- she was not leaving him and Petalrain alone. “Did Dawnblossom come out with you, or is it just you and Petalrain?”

Green eyes turned as he heard first one, then another of his clanmates found him as he walked. One was Petalrain and the other was Smokestorm, the Deputy. He rolled his shoulders and mentally rolled his eyes at their questions. They really just wanted to help but did they think that all a Medicine Cat did was gather herbs? Taking a deep calming breath, he pushed his frustrated thoughts aside and offered an open and friendly smile to his clanmates; raising his tail in greeting as he did so. He tried not to wince at the mention of his Mentor, but he wasn't sure how successful he was. Pushing passed his ill-ease, he spoke to the she-cats before him. "I was actually..." He paused as he picked up the annoyance in Smokestorm's voice and felt his fur bristle up in agitation. Normally a very calm and friendly cat, it was usually difficult to get him ruffled, but he just knew it was because he was a Medicine Cat that the Deputy was so annoyed.

If he were a normal Warrior, she wouldn't worry. Why did others think so little of his ability to survive, considering who his mother was. If she'd taught him nothing else, Silverglade had made certain her son could take care of himself if he had to. He wasn't stupid, he was very aware of his surroundings. For a moment his tail flicked in a show of his sharp emotions before he forced it down. He had enough to deal with without adding to it. Forcibly pushing his emotions down, he straightened up to his full height and held himself in the calmly confident manner his mother often exuded. He was young, that didn't mean he was helpless. It made his words come out crisp and cool instead of the usual friendly quietness. "Dawnblossom isn't with me today, she has other things to attend to. As to your question, I wasn't looking for herbs, no. I was looking for rodents. I'm needing mouse bile. I also thought about getting some cobwebs while I was out and about. You two are more than welcome to assist me if you so wish." There, that wasn't rude at all. He was managing to be the mature one in this situation for once. He would not tell off the Deputy; his mother would never let him live it down. He would be calm. He would be calm.

PETALRAIN

The arrival of Smokestorm had Petalrain's earlier intention of avoiding her duties come to a screeching halt. There was no chance for her to escape the deputy's sights let alone her words. Wishing in that moment that she had wings, Petalrain forced herself to relax and offer a polite nod in greeting.

Unknowingly similar to Sandblaze, Petalrain's tail flicked back and forth in a whip-like fashion that gave away her uneasy feeling. For a brief moment, she wondered if Smokestorm had tracked her down but the deputy directed her words to Sandblaze first. Petalrain was safe for the moment.

Considering the idea of faking an upset stomach or something to get an escape back to camp, she had no such luck. Sandblaze opened his mouth to suggest they find some sort of herb but Petalrain was far more interested in hunting and 'getting lost in the hunt' and found little difficulty suggesting it in order to leave the current social situation.

"Um..I've never been good with herbs so I'm better off just looking for few mice to bring back to the camp," She told her two Clanmates, stepping back as a way to show she was dismissing herself.
