The changing of the seasons signaled that different herbs would be both easier and harder to find. For Sandblaze, this meant a trip to the very edges of StoneClan's territory to look for some of the herbs he needed that were easier to find near the shallow waters of the stream that set the border between StoneClan and RainClan. After the greencough epidemic that had spread through all the clans those seasons ago, he wanted to make sure he was prepared for anything and everything. It felt odd still to go about his way without Dawnblossom by his side, but he knew she had other things to do for the clan and he was well old enough to do these things on his own. Still he was beginning to grow concerned, and the dreams coming to him from StarClan concerning his Mentor even still had him on edge.

It was frustrating for the young tom to not understand everything he was seeing, but he supposed it was something he'd figure out as the time came for him to do so. StarClan shared what a Medicine Cat needed when they needed it and not when they wanted it, after all. Even his mother was amazingly patient concerning such things and he envied her that trait as sometimes he sorely lacked it. He could deal with many a medical issue and cranky patient, but when it came to waiting for much desired answered to his troubles, he had a bit more of a hard time waiting for the unknown to make sense. 

He wondered if he couldn't just pull Shadowchaser aside next time they met and ask him about it. Speaking to another Medicine Cat may just be the answer to his troubles. He could ask his Mentor, but it concerned her directly so he felt that wouldn't be wise. Sandblaze sighed, stretching out his lean body tiredly before making himself focus again. He was here to look for a few herbs, not worry about the future. Time to focus.

With her younger limbs aiding in travel, Dewpaw was given permission to collect herbs along the river banks with two warriors to accompany her. She knew she was still young enough to get in trouble, and although her lessons with Gullswoop had gone well, her interests were not in fighting. She learned how to escape, and didn't want to accidentally lead someone to camp in her race to get protection. So, behind her two warriors kept watch on their journey, politely answering her questions about their days. It wasn't a far walk though compared to the trek to the Moon Tree, so Dewpaw's questions soon petered off as her energy moved on to focusing. They didn't need much, thanks to Swanfeather's diligence, and Dewpaw was only here to collect a few items to keep the stocks fresh.

She scanned the banks with her eyes, taking a deep breath at how calming the smell was at the border. It wasn't harsh in Dewpaw's mind. She enjoyed knowing the two clan's mingled here briefly each day, even if the cats never actually spoke with one another. Wait, this is fresh, Dewpaw thought, looking further down the bank. Across the way, she recognized the pelt, and a big smile lit up her face. "Wait here," She told her warrior guards, then raised her voice towards Sandblaze as she trotted towards him. "Sandblaze, hello! Are you out collecting herbs too? This bank is just perfect for them isn't it?"

White tipped ears tilted upwards as a voice raised towards him in greeting. Green eyes scanned his surroundings before noting the smaller form of Dewpaw. He raised his tail in greeting as he settled back into his own skin. Their clans were easy around each other, so he had nothing to worry about. He offered a warm purr of greeting before raising his voice to the young Apprentice. "Hello Dewpaw, yes I'm gathering some herbs I may need for the coming greenleaf. The stream being here makes it easier to find quite a few herbs. Are you looking for anything in particular?" It was polite to ask as some of the herbs grew on one side of the bank or the other and while Medicine Cats could cross borders, it was less trouble if they just exchanged them as needed here on neutral ground.

The thought occurred to him that Dewpaw was a Medicine Cat just like he was - if she was still in the learning stages - and he could easily ask her about the thoughts plaguing him. He didn't know her as well as he did Shadowchaser though and that lack of proper friendship held him back. Maybe if he was a bit more comfortable in her presence it would be fine, but for now he'd keep his tone light and the conversation on what they were doing on not on the lack of his answers of the coming times. It shouldn't be that hard, after all, she was a curious cat and from what he'd seen she was very excitable and friendly. Reminded him of how he'd been as a kit and that helped him relax a bit more.

She smiled at his greeting, then quickly focused back on the bank. ”It does! I like watching it flow too-it can be directed sometimes too! If there’s a plant that needs more, you can dig up some of the bank or add some stones and it’ll move the current of smaller streams like this.” Dewpaw replied, blue eyes fond. The water would always be more calming for her as a Rainclan cat she assumed. She shook her head briefly, remembering the last part of Sandblaze’s words. ”Nothing too particular, we’re just making sure our stores are stocked too. There’s a few helpful bushes here for cuts and scrapes which Swanfeather says is common for Greenleaf.”

Her attention felt divided. She wanted to get the herbs and go back, but something halted her from just saying goodbye. As wonderful as her mentor was, Sandblaze was closer in age, and he could give insight on being a medicine cat that Swanfeather couldn’t. They eventually would be full medicine cats together, leading the charge of safety for their respective clans. Dewpaw glanced over, tilting her head thoughtfully. “Would you like to collect with me? Maybe we have different techniques for gathering we can share with each other!” She asked, tail moving in excitement.

Sandblaze offered the clearly excited Apprentice a gentle smile before settling himself back to his work. He didn't mind, certainly, and at least it was quiet here so he could think. "It's interesting to watch how much the water calms you, Dewpaw. Part of you being RainClan, I suppose. As for the herbs, I'd never say no to company while I'm gathering and it's not like we'll get in each other's way. And I'm sure our methods of gathering are different as well, so there's plenty to learn from each other in that." He shook himself to work out the kinks in his frame before shifting back to what he was doing. He was delicate and precise in his work; often moving things around before he ever looked over a herb for consideration.

More than once, Sandblaze looked over a herb only to pass it up because he found something about it he didn't like. It likely looked strange, he realized, but as he'd said differences were a good thing and they could both learn from it. He wasn't bothered by the fact that his pelt was getting wet and muddy as he continued, or by the fact that the mud would itch when it dried. He was focused on his task; though he did keep his ears tilted towards Dewpaw. He felt it would be rude to completely ignore her, so he was letting her know in his quiet way that he was still listening should she choose to talk.
