Teller of the Mountain Sky It’d been a long walk from the mountains, but the three cats had traveled quickly in the early morning, reaching the valley before the eagles began their daily hunts. Taking a moment to relax and give rest to weary paws, Skyteller checked their direction toward StoneClan with Dusk and ensured again that he had the names of the leader and deputy. A suggestion from the prey-hunter, to wait for a patrol rather than boldly striding into the territory as though he lived there, was why, a few moments later, the three- Skyteller, Dusk, and Hail- were lined up just at the scent line. Skyteller was glad when the wait ended quickly enough, the sound of other cats pushing through the brush joined by their scent: a patrol of four, led by a small she-cat who was shadowed by three others, one of them a brown tom who kept pace at the leading cat’s shoulder. The she-cat’s tail was flicking, her gaze pinned on the three and an obvious tension in her shoulders. She paused a few tail-lengths away and spoke, her voice carrying a clear challenge- her words blunt and to the point. “Who are you and what do you want?”The lack of any attempt at courtesy pricked at Skyteller, but he was careful not to show it- perhaps it wasn’t odd for them to be challenged, and at least the she-cat had started with words than leaping blindly to the attack. “Good morning,” he replied. “I am Skyteller of the Tribe of Forgotten Waters, and I came in hopes of speaking to your leader. These are my companions, Hail from Storm Dark Sky, a cave-guard of my Tribe, and Dusk that Shrouds the Forest, a prey-hunter. We mean no harm, we only came to talk.”Green eyes flicked from Hail to Dusk, and the she-cat’s gaze sharpened in recognition of the prey-hunter. “I know you,” she stated, a hint of surprise in her gaze. “You’re a NightClan cat.”“Dusk is of my Tribe,” Skyteller repeated calmly. “He came to us seeking to join and we accepted him.”Suspicion was expected, and while Skyteller could only guess at the thoughts running through her mind, he doubted it was anything flattering about him or his Tribemates. “May we accompany you back to your camp, so I may talk to Hawkstar?”Wary concern flitted across the she-cat’s face, and she glanced back at her companions; the brown tom was staring at them, looking nearly ready to spring at the slightest wrong move, but the other two looked a touch more relaxed. When the she-cat gave a slow nod, Skyteller rose to his paws, pleased that they’d got this far. He could only hope the rest went well. “We’ll take you to our camp. Dustpaw, run ahead and let Hawkstar know we’re coming. My name is Smokestorm,” the gray cat added, turning with a glance over her shoulder as the brown tom turned and hared away. “I’m StoneClan’s deputy, so you’ll be talking to me too.”Skyteller cast a glance at Dusk, caught by surprise at the information- no blame lit his gaze, he’d known that whatever information Dusk had was moons old, but expecting one thing and finding out that one bit of information he’d taken for granted no longer applied made him wonder what else might have changed. At least Hawkstar still seemed to be leader, so they weren’t completely out of the loop. With Smokestorm leading and the other two Clan cats flanking, the group made their way to the camp and to whatever waited them there. Fawn BlooRey DVD williams |

PAINT MY SPIRIT GOLD Being asked to venture down into the valley felt like a great honor. Hail had curled up with her brother afterwards, letting the tom feed off of her apparent excitement and lent words to her thoughts. "You have to tell me all about them," he whispered against her shoulders, lithe form acting as a blanket. "Dusk is only one tom, he doesn't know the entire valley." The words were said with an honesty that was not hurtful, spoken as someone who appreciates what information can be shared and feeds curosity of someone in a new land. Hail, lapping at aching paws from the long walk, remembered scoffing at her brother's words out of fondness. She was the excited one, Heather knew that. He could care less about the clan cats in the valley, but she was interested and he tugged those feelings into the light. The cave-guard shook her thoughts out, following Skyteller's instructions to wait.
She flanked his side, ever the protector. They were meant to be friendly towards the valley cats, and Hail intended to be so but her tribe's safety came first. She would not let anyone harm a member of her tribe again. She sniffed curiously at the border marking while they waited, senses open for any approaching cats. "they must eat well down here, the trees are alive with bird call," She commented, before a slight growl escaped. They had been spotted finally. Lowering her hackles, she watched her leader and this she-cat interact. She dipped her head in greeting when her name was given, but spent the rest of the conversation watching and learning.
The she-cat, Smokestorm as she said at the end, seemed cautious of their approach and Hail could not blame her for that reaction. She sent the little one of their group to lead the charge, the 'paw charging away to warn this Hawkstar while the rest circled the group protectively. "I will watch the back." She announced, slowing her steps with a practiced ease. This was her postion of power, and the cave-guard intended to take it.

Dusk that Shrouds the Forest If you get lost you can always be found Prey-Hunter, 51 Moons Returning to the valley had not felt as poignant as Dusk had expected. Maybe because the terrain here still reminded him of the oasis, not the cool soil or soft needles of NightClan's territory. Dusk that Shrouds the Forest inwardly remarked on how tough his pawpads had grown over the last season or so. No longer did he wince every time he stepped on a sharp rock - he seldom noticed if he did so at all.
The procession comprised of himself, Skyteller, and Hail from Storm-Dark Sky, was small but making good time. With a brief rest period spawned by Dusk's sudden urge to sleep, a gentle nudge from Hail had snapped him out of it. He'd sheepishly apologized, and the group had moved on. Now they were in StoneClan's territory, and the old rules and laws he had abided by as a Clan cat pounced on him the moment they crossed the border. This isn't our territory, turn back, said a little voice that was still Hazeheart of NightClan.
But Dusk's steps did not falter, not until a patrol of four sturdy looking StoneClan cats appeared on the horizon. As expected, they were greeted coldly; however, claws were still sheathed, and Dusk willed his pulse to slow. He'd look ridiculous falling asleep out of nowhere. The tortoiseshell tom's head snapped up when a she-cat claimed to recognize him, and he stepped closer to get a better look at her. Yes, he vaguely remembered who she was. He must have seen her at a gathering.
StoneClan and NightClan didn't share borders.
"I am not a Clan cat anymore. The Tribe is my home now. I hope Hawkstar and Wolfclaw are well," said Dusk, hoping to ease some of the tension or confusion by appearing amicable. These pleasantries mattered not, however, as Smokestorm announced herself as StoneClan's deputy. What happened to Wolfclaw? Dusk's expression darkened with puzzled sadness, but he was relieved to hear at least Hawkstar's name was still spoken as if the tom lived.
With StoneClan cats flanking them as Hail bringing up the rear, they were escorted (or marched) to StoneClan's camp. Dusk let these strange new scents flood in, watching and listening with curiosity. Here goes nothing. If we can have a good start here, we might have decent luck with the other Clans too. He sent a little prayer to StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting, just in case.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The large StoneClan figurehead had been comfortable in his den, chuckling fondly over days long past with Eagletalon, when a commotion stirred in camp. With a puzzled glance at his brother, Hawkstar rose stiffly to his paws. Pausing only briefly to coax some of the stiffness away with a few rolls of his shoulders, the sandy brown tom led the way out of his den. Glancing down from the Rock Pile, his pale amber eyes found the form of Dustpaw, who had evidently just sprinted back to camp from somewhere. His ears pricked in curiosity when Dustpaw relayed the news of visitors to StoneClan.
With a soft sound and another look toward Eagletalon, he mused. "Visitors? Well, that's new. Normally they just waltz in here at their own leisure." He joked, shifting to butt his shoulder against his treasured friend's. "Shall we find out what this is about?" He asked, inviting Eagletalon to sit in. Descending the stones, the mountainous tom seated himself in view of the camp entrance, so that he might greet these new arrivals when they appeared. It wasn't long before Smokestorm's form pushed into the entrance. Behind her trailed the remainder of her patrol, and three cats whom he did not immediately identify.
The visitors. He thought to himself, rising to his paws. With a welcome smile, and an air of politesse he was known for, Hawkstar nodded to the newcomers. "Greetings, and welcome to StoneClan. I am Hawkstar, and this is Eagletalon." His gaze quickly scanned over the three visitors, and reaffirmed his choice in having Eagletalon join them. "As I assume you are here to speak... He will accompany us in our discussions, alongside Smokestorm." Three and three. He waited for each of the three to be introduced, nodding his head in acknowledgment to each.
Once formalities were clear out of the way, the scarred StoneClan leader flicked his tail toward the Rock Pile. "Let us retreat to my den. It may be a smidgen crowded with us all in there, but it will provide us some privacy." With that said, he lead the procession up the Rock Pile, before ducking into the den he'd called his own for many moons. Settling himself just in front of his bedding, Hawkstar folded his sandy tail over his monstrous paws. He waited for all involved to find their place, before he began.
"Eagletalon, Smokestorm, as a courtesy to our guests, let us not interrupt until all has been said. Questions and concerns shall be withheld until the end." He waited for a sign of acknowledgement from his two Clan members, before dipping his own muzzle and settling his amber gaze on the leader of the small group of guests. "You have out attention." Teller of the Mountain Sky Skyteller could not help a thrill of excitement as the group neared the camp, the scent of cats flooding the air and announcing that here many gathered and lived, and had for countless moons. He glanced over his shoulder at his companions before pushing through the tunnel: Dusk paced at his side and Hail padded behind, watching over them with a cave-guard’s skill and zest. “Go on, then,” one of the Clan cats urged, their tone hovering between demanding and asking; Skyteller flicked his tail and entered the camp after Smokestorm. The small she-cat was heading toward a much larger tom, brown in color and scarred but with an open, welcoming expression in his eyes. A somewhat smaller tom sat on first’s other side, his coat and eyes an echo of the first. The greeting was welcome, and Skyteller gave a dip of his head in return, beckoning Hail and Dusk to sit with him. “Well met, Hawkstar and Eagletalon. I am Teller of the Mountain Sky- Skyteller, if you will- and we are of the Tribe of Forgotten Waters. This is Dusk that Shrouds the Forest, a prey-hunter of the Tribe; and yes,” he added, as Smokestorm drew breath as though intending to give Hawkstar the news of his first allegiance, “he is formerly of the Clans, but no longer. His loyalty lies with me and the Tribe now. And this is Hail from Storm-Dark Sky, a cave-guard. Dusk and Hail, respectively.”He noticed but ignored the suspicious way Smokestorm was eyeing Dusk- perhaps there was some connection from their past? It had nothing to do with today’s business, and when Hawkstar rose to lead the way to his den, Skyteller followed. He glanced around, noting the number of cats hovering out of the way and watching, the young brown tom who had been sent to tell Hawkstar of their arrival was chatting excitedly to two others. Kits, tucked away in a corner and watched by a gray tabby she-cat, were playing with each other. Here, the sense of home could be felt, and he could understand and accept that the Clan would fight their hardest to defend it. It was a bit of a tight fit in the den, but Skyteller made no mention of it. He merely made himself comfortable and, when Hawkstar fell silent, he began. “I wish first to make it clear that I have no intention of harming any of the Clan. My Tribe and I are of the mountains, the forest holds no appeal. Our ways of hunting would be useless to us here. I simply wished to extend an offer of alliance. We are new to this area, and it is the first time in countless seasons that we have lived in proximity to other cats. Our former home was many days’ journey away- we left because of a cave-in, and we lost many as a result of it.”Grief clutched at him, still fresh at the thought of the loss of life- his own mate and kits among them. Briefly he closed his eyes, reminding himself of the purpose at present, and continued. “I saw no reason to remain separate, as we are not nearly so isolated anymore. I thought it would be worth getting to know the Clans- those who would be willing, at least.”For a moment it was silent, and then Smokestorm spoke up. “You’re not just seeking an alliance with StoneClan, then? You intend to offer it to each Clan?”“Yes. If one should refuse, then I will accept their decision, but I did not come with the intent of singling StoneClan out.”“And what will you do with this alliance?”Skyteller glanced at Smokestorm, meeting her gaze steadily despite the challenge and wariness in her eyes. “I will not demand anything that you don’t give readily, nor will I abuse your trust, should you agree.” Turning back to Hawkstar, he continued. “Nor will I help you in any disputes between Clans. My alliance will be to all- unless they break it first. But, if for any reason you need shelter, or aid, we will help how we can.”Fawn BlooRey DVD williams |

PAINT MY SPIRIT GOLD The journey into their camp was uneventful, but the camp itself was delightful. Hail let her gaze sweep the entire place with palpable interest. They had dens similar to theirs, bright eyes watching from the dim. Each den at first glance gave no indication how it was split up, but she knew from what Dusk said that the young and old were split, and the kits with their mothers had their own den. There was a soft cry of kits, and as her gaze landed there, a young she-cat with scarring on a back leg crept over to guard. Hail nodded her head in understanding. They too would defend their home against strangers. They were met center of the clearing by a large tom with a presence equal to her Skyteller. Hail remained standing during their little greeting, giving a nod of hello when her name and rank were given. Her focus was kept more on the camp itself though, as it felt like her duty. They weren't going to be attacked, she could see that clearly in the faces of the cats they passed on the way to Hawkstar's den. Rather, they were an interesting new things to watch, like a To-Be discovering snow fall for the first time a former-clan cat's excitement when succeeding at bringing down prey up in the mountains. Our arrival will be spread to all members of this group by the time we exit this den, she mused as she sat against Skyteller's side. I hope we become a tale worth telling. As Skyteller spoke, Hail watched the clan cat's reactions. Had they experienced hardship like theirs? Lost their home and had to begin anew? Her own heart ached to hear of their story, the image of their former home like a fresh wound. It was necessary to share of course but that did not lessen the pain. She had grown up there, in those distant mountains. The cave-guard laid her tail on Skyteller's shoulders with this shared grief, then tucked the feelings away as he continued. It sounded like a reasonable request. They would interact, or keep to themselves. The clan cats would make the decision, as Skyteller had already made his by coming down and starting the talks. Smokestorm's distruct was understandable, but Hail still huffed a breath at it. They wanted to provide support, extend their hospitality. Wasn't that good enough? The cave-guard turned her attention to Hawkstar. What did he think of their request? 430 || Taxx BlooRey DVD Fawn || notes MADE BY ★MEULK OF THQ

Dusk that Shrouds the Forest If you get lost you can always be found Prey-Hunter, 51 Moons Dusk largely remained silent, listening first as Hawkstar welcomed them into his den in proper diplomatic fashion. It was cramped, with six cats inside, but the mood was curious and attentive - not cautious and unwelcoming. Dusk concentrated on his breathing, watching the faces of the StoneClan cats as Skyteller spoke of their history along with an offer of peace.
Beside Hawkstar sat a heavily scarred sand-furred tom. Though his muzzle was marked with signs of battle and old age, his eyes were bright as sunlight through fossilized amber. He seemed keen, amicable, though his expression narrowed in consideration as Skyteller reached the end of his speech.
That’s Eagletalon, Dusk realized after the name finally came back to him. NightClan rarely rubbed pelts with StoneClan, so their Clanmates were harder to place, particularly those that did not hold a high rank within the Clan. Still, the reputation of one of StoneClan’s veteran fighters had preceded him, and Dusk found himself wondering if there was another reason behind Hawkstar inviting him in. Does he suspect a fight will break out?
They’d have to be crazy to even consider it. Dusk shook his head, a tiny movement meant to shake loose these silly thoughts. Eagletalon had listened to the end, but now the veteran was gazing at Hawkstar intently, obviously waiting for him to say his piece first. ”It’s nice to deal with courtesy and respect, for a change.” Eagletalon chuckled.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The large StoneClan figurehead listened patiently as the foreign cats explained their presence. Intrigued glistened behind his pale amber eyes, curiosity ever-present at the thought that other cats had lived in the vicinity of the Clans for so long, without Clan knowledge. As Teller of the Mountain Sky briefly mentioned a great loss suffered by the Tribe, however, the sand-brown tom's gaze sobered, and he dipped his muzzle in respect. "May StarClan light their paths, and may they rest peacefully forevermore." He murmured respectfully before the Tribe leader continued.
When Skyteller finished his piece, Hawkstar remained silent a moment. The large tom was interested in seeing what the Clan cats around him had to say; Smokestorm was the first to speak up. He let her interrogate the foreign leader a moment, listening intently to the answers put forth by the opposite party head. She fell silent when Skyteller turned his gaze back on Hawkstar, a gaze which the big tom did not break. Eagletalon's voice from beside him triggered the pivot of one of his ears, and a soft snort of agreement. "I would wholeheartedly agree with such a sentiment, Eagletalon." A thoughtful look settled upon his features as he shifted his weight from his scarred shoulder.
"I am inclined, Skyteller, to accept your proposition. StoneClan is familiar with loss, with a desperate need for shelter. And allies in the mountains certainly proved useful in the past. And yet, I fear for the image presented upon StoneClan should we accept. If you will so accept it, my agreement in this alliance is dependent upon the acceptance of another one of the four remaining Clans. Without another Clan supporting your proposition, I fear the other Clans may see our alliance with you as a..." He pondered the right word, before continuing.
"As a threat. And if we are regarded as a threat, we are in danger of retaliation. I, and I think all of StoneClan, would feel more comfortable with such an arrangement if there was another force to stand beside." Curling his tail over his paws, the StoneClan figurehead flicked an ear. "Might I suggest TreeClan as a potential ally? TreeClan resides directly opposite from us, though I'm certain Dusk knows where their territory lies." He commented, his pale amber eyes flicking warmly to the tom in question. Turning back to Skyteller, the tom continued. "Any objections or concerns? From any of you." He added, his gaze passing over StoneClan and Tribe cats alike. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Taxx williams Fawn | table by phoenix

Teller of the Mountain Sky This was going as well as Skyteller had hoped; perhaps he had not been wrong in his views of the Clans as territorial, but it was heartening to see that not all of them were of the ‘attack first, ask questions after’ sort. Hawkstar was the diplomatic leader he had hoped to meet, and it gave the Tribe’s Healer hope for success with the remaining Clans. Hawkstar’s murmured condolence on the passing of so many Tribe cats was met with a nod of gratitude. StarClan, Dusk had told him, was as reverant to the Clans as the Tribe of Endless Hunting was to the Tribe, and a blessing from them was good to hear; the loss of life had been devastating to the Tribe, and Hawkstar acknowledged it- even seemed to truly understand it, to a degree. Another dip of his head to the similarily-pelted tom at Hawkstar’s side, and he wondered exactly how this Clan- who had welcomed him willingly enough- viewed the rest of the Clans in the valley. Or, how they viewed StoneClan. Had there been a fight recently? Or just less than pleasant interactions? He didn’t know, and it wasn’t his place to ask. He was pleased when Hawkstar spoke acceptance, a sense of success easing away the worm of anxiety that he would be refused and sent away. It was a good first step on this newest attempt, and Skyteller was glad his plan had gone so well. Of course, he still had four more to visit, and he could only hope they went as well as this one did. A ginger ear flicked at the leader’s words, confusion flickering in his gaze. “They would view your allies as a threat?”“They would think we were gathering cats to launch an attack on them,” Smokestorm replied. Clearly, trust didn’t go far among these cats, if they were so quick to leap to conclusions that were false. But, it was again not his place to offer advice, and he only flicked his tail in acknowledgement of the she-cat’s explanation. “I will do that, then. Dusk will guide. I thank you for your hospitality, Hawkstar, Eagletalon, Smokestorm. I have no concerns…”“Can we trust you?” Smokestorm spoke the words quietly, but firmly. She’d face Hawkstar’s displeasure later, if he was unhappy with her voicing a direct challenge on the integrity of the strangers, but she couldn’t just let them go without knowing- or feeling certain- that this wouldn’t go poorly for StoneClan at a later time. Rising to his paws, Skyteller turned his gaze to the gray she-cat, the deputy of the Clan; he could understand her concerns, and he tried to ease them. “I gave my word, and I meant it. I will not betray you, or turn my back if you should need help. If you call on us, my Tribe and I will do whatever we can to help. As we would hope you would do.” She wasn’t quite content with that- Skyteller could see it in the way she glanced away, tail flicking a couple times before she tucked it beneath one front paw. But she said nothing and Skyteller glanced back toward Eagletalon and then his own companions, waiting for any further concerns any might have to share. Fawn BlooRey DVD williams |
