Smokestorm's tail flicked a bit restlessly before she curled it over her paws. Her gaze was firmly directed toward the leaders perched on top of the rock, taking in each report as it was given- her whiskers twitched again in silent amusement as she recalled the RainClan leader's clumsy skid straight off the back side of the rock.

Paws shuffled in the cold snow piled on the ground; the moment the leaders finished their reports, Smokestorm was on her feet, moving to warm herself up through a bit of activity. She enjoyed Gatherings, and there was no reason to let her rank as deputy stop her from taking pleasure in greeting acquaintances from other Clans, fielding questions about StoneClan and asking her own, skin-deep topics about health and well-being.

After a round of the clearing, Smokestorm found herself next to Honeynose, and she gave the younger she-cat a warm nod. "Hello, Honeynose. Enjoying yourself, I hope? It's a bit cold out, but I do look forward to Gatherings."

It wasn't her first gathering - far from it, actually. But for whatever reason, the cat she most wanted to go with always seemed to go without her, or vice versa. Dreamily remembering Vipertail's luminous green eyes as he watched them leave StoneClan's camp for the event, Honeynose was startled out of this pleasant reverie by Smokestorm's presence.

"What? Sorry I was daydreaming a bit. Er, nightdreaming." Her thin tabby tail flicked up toward the moon for emphasis over her correction, and the younger she-cat beamed warmly. Smokestorm was one of those put-together warriors that others looked to for guidance; Honeynose was no such thing, instead more of a good friend than a great mentor. Which was probably why she'd never had an apprentice yet...

Smokestorm was great at her job, though. Mistpetal had been nice, but there was a familiarity about Smokestorm that Honeynose found reassuring. They were similarly built, both rather slender she-cats, though the deputy's markings were a bit more striking and she definitely had that... that inner strength about her that Honeynose believed shone through.

"How do you think Hawkstar decides who goes and who doesn't?" she asked, wondering if her Clanmate could have any insights on the matter. "Do you think he takes requests?" Her brother Valerianleap was here, but as for her close friends - Herondive, Hazelcloud and Vipertail - none were here. Not even Sorrelclaw, whom she'd befriended recently. This isn't the most exciting Gathering, but I'll just have to make the most of it, she mused. Smokestorm's nice.

A purr rumbled in Smokestorm's throat; she repeated the question, brushing off the apology with a flick of her tail. "Enjoying yourself?" A glance around at the mingling cats, taking in the flash of pelts and the multitude of scents- LightningClan's alone missing, which brought a flicker of curiosity as to the reason behind that to the deputy's mind.

Green eyes flicked back to Honeynose as she spoke again, her mind switching to the new topic as she glanced toward Hawkstar. "I don't know," she replied. "Why? Would you like me to ask?" A teasing note entered her voice as she turned back to the younger she-cat, a playful flick of her tail at Honeynose's shoulder. "I'm sure if you or I asked, he'd take that into consideration for the next Gathering. Who should I ask to be allowed to attend?"

Honeynose flushed beneath her pelt, heart taking a running leap right into her ears. "O-Oh you don't have to!" Would Smokestorm tease her if she knew? It would be alright to tell her. If we become mates one day, the whole Clan will know. "I'd love to go to the gathering with Vipertail," Honeynose admitted, whiskers trembling with this shy confession. "We never quite seem to go at the same time, and I'd really like to. Of course, going with Herondive or Hazelcloud is just as good."

Honeynose didn't want to be thought of as a she-cat obsessed with toms, or as if she had some silly sort of crush. It was true, she did like Vipertail, and had for a very long time, but that did not mean she valued her closest friends any less. Feeling braver now that she'd spoken, the petite she-cat chose not to dwell too much on her heartfelt confession, confident that Smokestorm wasn't the type to go about spreading rumors. "Have you been to see the new kits yet?" Honeynose asked, delight coloring her words now. "I know Frozenrain's very protective of them, especially little Snowkit, so I haven't had the chance. What about you?" Surely the deputy - especially with her connection to Eagletalon, who was like a brother to Hawkstar - would be allowed a little visit?

The tom’s name brought a flash of night-black pelt and vivid green eyes. It wasn’t what she had expected- but who was she to judge who Honeynose wanted to spend time with? Vipertail might not be her first choice for companionship, but clearly the younger she-cat had found something worth having with Vipertail- or, at the least, they were friends that might one day become more. “I’ll talk to Hawkstar,” Smokestorm replied. She couldn’t promise that the tom would agree, but at least bringing it up wouldn’t hurt, and who knew?

The mention of the kits brought another purr to the she-cat’s throat. “Not yet,” she replied. “I thought Frozenrain might like her time with them, and they’ll soon be old enough to make themselves known about the camp. Especially Mink-kit. Something tells me she’s going to be quite the character. Hawkstar is quite proud of them both.” And Smokestorm couldn’t wait to see the two find their place within the Clan.
