Ever so slowly, the kit crept toward the dozing warrior. Probably she had thought it’d be a good opportunity, to catch a nap in the sun. Probably she had thought nobody would disturb her.

Unfortunately for her, Lynxkit was on the prowl, and she had Larkfeather squarely in her sights. Crouched low to the ground, creeping along inch by inch, the tabby kit closed in on Larkfeather; her gaze, though fixed on the she-cat’s tail, frequently flicked to check that she wasn’t being watched, that the warrior was still truly asleep.

Lynxkit’s tail was doing its best at lashing in growing excitement, though it was more of a rapid jerking from side to side, rocking her hindquarters with it. With an effort, she halted the motion, holding it still as she stalked the last foot of distance and paused. Sucking in a breath, the kit gave a last waggle of her back end, fixed her gaze once more on the inviting tip of the she-cat’s tail, and sprang. “Got you!”

Getting quiet solitude, just a little peace and time to herself, was something that was a rare commodity for Larkfeather and thus it was something she enjoyed immensely when she managed to pull it off. Someone always wanted something from her though, and that meant that these days it was getting harder and harder for her to find time to just unwind and be alone. Today though, the pale-furred she-cat was enjoying a nap in the empty Warrior dens. She was content and had nothing expected of her until later in the day when she'd need to go take her turn at hunting.

Her entire body was still sore from pushing herself the last few days so that she'd get this time alone, and so the sleep had been much needed. There was no telling how long she'd been asleep when suddenly something was jumping on her, but she knew immediately it hadn't been long enough as she jolted up and hissed, alert and body tense in a defensive pose as she looked around and finally spotted a tiny ball of fluff. She hissed again, all pretense of niceness falling away under a wave of fury so powerful she'd later be afraid of how intensely she'd felt.

"You foul little rat, what in StarClan's name possessed you to wake a sleeping Warrior. Do you want to die?" She had the kit suddenly pinned under the weight of one of her paws before she could even think to temper her actions. She'd worked so hard for this time to herself, and this little upstart had ruined it! She was so angry!

I've got the eye of a fighter
Dancing through the fire

The leap went perfectly, the catch was made. The rest of it, however, did not go how Lynxkit had expected at all. A heavy paw swept her clear off her feet and pinned her to the ground while a loud voice yowled abuse at her. Staring up at the she-cat she’d rudely woken, Lynxkit blinked and blinked again, and then began to squirm. “Let go!” she demanded, kicking out with her hind legs at Larkfeather’s chest.

The first prickling of fear she’d ever felt made the fur on her diminuitive tail bush out. Why was she being asked if she wanted to die? It hadn’t been that big of a deal! Struggling clear and spitting in the warrior’s face, Lynxkit glared back at her. “I only pounced on your tail! And you can’t hurt me, I’m Firestar’s kit. She’ll kick you out of the Clan if you do!”

Whether that was true or not, Lynxkit didn’t know, but it surely ought to be. Why would Firestar side with this warrior over her own kit? “So just try it!” she dared, laying her ears back and hissing with all the ferocity of a squeaking mouse. “Try it and see what happens to you!”

Green eyes narrowed at the hissing kit beneath her paw and a dark, cruel smile crossed onto her expression as she dropped her head very close to the struggling kit. Her words were lilting and cold and so very serious. "Oh really? You think I care who you belong to? Do you think you're so important that so much fuss would be made? Guess what, you're not. You're the same as anyone else's kit, and you're out of the Nursery so if anything you'll be the one in trouble for wandering off. As for me, I'll be praised for returning the wayward kit." Her tail flicked in annoyance and agitation, but she knew she'd made her point. Stupid kits thinking they owned the world.

She pressed just slightly harder on the small frame beneath her paw; enough that breathing would be harder but not quite enough to actually do harm. Her head came down and green eyes focused on the little frame she held. "So you tell me, little rat, do you still think I couldn't hurt you? Or, maybe, are you ready to be brought back to the Nursery like a good little kit? Your choice, because I will not be nice." She shifted and eased the pressure of her paw against the kit enough that she could breathe correctly again. She'd bring her back, alright, but she was glad to have gotten her point across in the meantime.
