The young white and grey she cat was restless, her agitation had only grown these last few weeks towards a certain cat and despite her first impression of Dovecloud it was not the white warrioress that had earned her ire but instead Dovecloud's mate Harestrike, a evil soulless tom that had actually had the nerve to do something so horrible to Dovecloud that the warrioress did not dare speak about it.

However Cedarpaw had gotten close to her mentor over the short while they had been training together and she was determined to find out what, so she did what any good investigator did...Ambrush Dovecloud until she finally told her and today was no exception.

A plan formulated in the young she cat's head as sh walked towards the warrior's den. Dovecloud should be in there so all that Cedarpaw would simply need to was ask her mentor to take her hunting and wait for the perfect moment to strike.


" Dovecloud, will you accompany me while I go hunting?" She asked in that sickly sweet voice of her's that her adopted mother of a mentor would know only meant that she was either up to something or wanted something. Cedarpaw knew she had to be delicate about the matter, if Dovecloud did not share it with her then it must be very serious, they had began to tell each other everything when Dovecloud mentioned Harestrike's apparent lack of investment in their relationship and Cedarpaw had backed her up.

   I assume that Dove would be to proud to have told anyone about Harestrike's cheating, This is based off the assumption that she has not yet told Cedarpaw.

Honestly, Dovecloud was impressed at the guile of her apprentice. She'd told Cedarpaw that something was badly wrong with Harestrike but not what that was. It was still too raw. Dovecloud knew that it was something that she'd have to tell to someone eventually, Harestrike could not be allowed to continue walking around LightningClan like he owned it when he'd committed such a personal affront to both her and Maplebrook... The poor Queen being forced to have the kits of a cat who had no interest in anything but himself and his mother's personal opinions. 

"Cedarpaw, stop. I know by that voice exactly what you want to know. If you promise both myself and StarClan that you will not tell any cat unless I specifically say so first, I'll tell you what you want to know. Come with me."

She began to lead the way sedately out of camp, not even noticing at first where she was going. That was, until she began to scent TreeClan. Pulling her head out of her thoughts for a moment, she realised she was, by instinct (or something much, much worse) leading the way along the TreeClan border. 

Checking to see if Cedarpaw was following, she began to speak. She was speaking to herself more than anything, but she was absolutely certain that Cedarpaw could hear her mutters.

"Where do I even begin with this?"

Truth be told, Cedarpaw was not suprised when her mentor cut her off by sharply telling her that she knew what her tone meant and did not appreciate the constant interrogation on the subject. However Dovecloud had seemingly resigned to telling her so so long as she promised never to speak about it without permission and Cedarpaw willingly agreed, following the white she cat that had become like a second mother to the young tabby cat in such a short amount of time out of the camp without a second thought on as to what might await her eagar ears.


As they walked Cedarpaw began to scent the stench of  squirelchasers but said nothing on the matter as Dovecloud seemed much more distracted by the news she was about it share, muttering about where to begin. Admittedly this scared Cedarpaw, normally her mentor was so sure, so clear with her intentions that to see her nervous or uncertain about something was worrying the young she cat. 
    
" Why don't we skip to what I do know, Harestrike did something, now please for the love of all things Starclan, what did he do that has you so upset Dovecloud? I'm worried" she spoke clearly, abiet a little more sharply at the end than she had intened but the curious young cat has run out of patience and seeing Harestrike's smug look every time he had a fight with Dovecloud, which seemed to have been getting more frequent as the season progressed into it's middle and then final moons.

" Don't tell me he called you ugly or something because you are gorgoeous and who cares what that mousedung for brains thinks, I am honestly suprised he can think at all " She continued, Cedarpaw spent enought time with  Dovecloud to know that if the white warrioress had any faults, it was her pride. Beauty was something that every she cat craved and Dovecloud had been blessed, but she had been known to be a touch vain and obessessed with her pelt and general appearence. Cedarpaw had good intentions in knowing what was upseting her mentor, it was just that sometimes she did not have the best delivery.

'Don't tell me he called you ugly or something...'

Oh, if only that were all it was. 

"No, Cedarpaw. Nothing as easy as that. That i'd be able to stomach. He betrayed me. He betrayed all of LightningClan. He... A TreeClan cat is having his kits right now. They should be born soon."

With it out in the open, at least with her apprentice, Dovecloud felt as if a lead weight had been removed from her shoulders. Her heart was in tatters, but at least she had taken that first step of telling another cat. 

She had no idea how her apprentice would react. Cedarpaw was loyal to LightningClan and loyal to her. Harestrike had betrayed both.

Dovecloud could never forgive him. She wasn't the kind of cat to forgive and forget something that grievous. She wanted to forgive him - she wanted it to be some kind of overly extravagant practical joke at her expense. But it wasn't. He had done this. She had all the proof she needed. She just... hurt.

" No, that I could stomach....  He betrayed me....A TreeClan cat is having his kits right now. They should be born soon."
As soon as the words left Dovecloud, Cedarpaw's maw dropped in a comical fashion, only what Dovecloud had said was far from amusing. Cedarpaw's amber eyes seemed to darken as her anger bubbled beneath the prestine surface of the young apprentice's coat, her claws seathed and unseathed uncontrolably as she struggled to maintain a calm exterior. It was several minutes before Cedarpaw collected herself enough to speak and her words were coated in venom and eerily calm.

" He will pay for this, I will kill him myself, surely Firestar would have no objections since he is a traitor to the clan anyway" H The apprentice's words were cold, lacking in any sort of emotion but pure white hot rage, her fur puffed up as she narrowed her eyes in the direction of the camp, where unknowing Harestrike will never expect what vengence she had planned for him. However after a moment or two, Cedarpaw caught sight of her mentor and her anger subsided, the young apprentice approached her mentor slowly, grooming her side comfortingly, her tail resting over her mentor's as she closed the distance between them with what could only be distribed as the only comforting thing the apprentice knew to do. 
er eyes then lit up with concern and she stepped closer to nuzzle her mentor,

While Cedarpaw was angry, she was still lucid enough to know that Dovecloud was feeling all that she was and much worse and not to mention. It had taken a lot of courage for Dovecloud to share that information with her, or with anyone, Dovecloud  was not the most sharing of cats, nor was she the most forgiving, a trait she had passed on to her apprentice.

" Are you alright? I can't begin to imagine how hurt you feel right now" Cedarpaw's asked her mentor, eyes shining with concern. It seemed that while Cedarpaw had been so concerned with Dovecloud's revelation that she failed to notice the smell of another cat in the air and continued to be unware of this new cat until she spoke." I know how hurt she feels, I feel the same way" 

Maplebrook had been mourning her kits for hours now and while she appreciated being alone, she was starting to feel lonely, that was until she heard voices nearby and peaking out, her blood froze as the white warrioress standing before her was none other than Dovecloud, Harestrike's mate and some smaller random cat that Maplebrook did not recognise.

Dovecloud mentioned that Harestrike had cheated on her with a Treeclan cat, and there were kits on the way, if they were not already born. Maplebrook choked back a sob as the other cat first expressed her obvious displeasure at Harestrike and then suddenly switched to caring about Dovecloud, which did unnerve the grieving queen a little. It was at this point that she spoke, admitting that she knew exactly how Dovecloud felt, and if not exactly that, then at least something similar. Harestrike had fooled and cheated on them both but Starclan clearly had a plan to punish them all. 

" HOW DARE YOU!!! WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT HOW DOVECLOUD FEELS?" Cedarpaw snapped at Maplebrook and the other she cat simply blinked at her outburst and spoke softly, gently. " Because I am the she cat she is taking about, the one Harestrike betrayed her with" She explained, cutting the apprentice off before she could start a rant. " Before you have a go at me remember that I had no idea Harestrike had a mate when I met him, as for my kits..." she trailled off for a moment before gathering her wits and took a deep breath. " They are with Starclan, no longer your problem or any of your business" The once kind, pretty and soft spoken warrioress snapped back at the young white grey tabby.

Calico Dovecloud 

Notes: DUN DUN DUN!!! DRAMA ALERT

Dovecloud almost cried aloud at the loyalty being shown to her by her apprentice. Cedarpaw truly was a credit to her clan.

She was just about to form a gentle rebuke to Cedarpaw's (rightful) outburst, when she was stopped in her tracks by the softly spoken voice of Maplebrook. That's when her heart fell through her paws. 

Her kits... Harestrike's kits... gone? Just like that? What happened? Oh, StarClan no...

"Cedarpaw, relax. This one is okay for a TreeClan cat." It was important to mention this, as Cedarpaw looked like she was about to start spitting feathers... and tearing claws.

"I'm so incredibly sorry to hear about your kits, Maplebrook. Did you get to name them at least?"

Dovecloud was out of her comfort zone and it showed, but she still went toward her, resting her head on Maplebrook's shoulder, whispering something for her ears alone.

"No cat should lose their kits, regardless of the circumstances of their conception. My thoughts and prayers go with you."
