Frozenrain77 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanThe kitting had been a trial that put her faith and her body to the test. Despite the soothing reassurances of Dawnblossom, complications had arisen anyway. Frozenrain could remember lying in a soiled nest, feeling so weak, so tired. Seeing the worried movements of the medicine cats as they tended to a small damp kit, coaxing it to take its first breath.
If not for the first kit, healthy and whole, at her belly, Frozenrain's heart would have broken. She hazily recalled her mate's voice, and the way he shadowed over her. She could recall seeing how badly he wanted to wrap her and their kits up, to protect her from what felt inevitable now.
But death did not come to StoneClan that morning. When the second kit finally squeaked, taking its first breath, it felt to Frozenrain as if she were breathing for the first time to.
Dawnblossom and Sandblaze kept them under careful observation for the next few days. Mink-kit, named for a friend who had been lost, was strong. Snowkit, with her pale coat, was as delicate as the first frost of the season.
But gradually, the immediate danger had passed.
Frozenrain purred, watching her daughters nuzzle into her belly. They were cushioned in with moss and feathers, and the scent of Hawkstar was all around. For emotional strength, Dawnblossom had allowed Frozenrain to move into Hawkstar's den with the kits. The stressful kitting was still keeping her energy low, but her spirits were strong.
Frozenrain had not allowed many visitors; only Vipertail, Herondive and Eagletalon. The rest of the Clan would have to wait a few more weeks to meet their newest additions. Footfalls caught her attention, and the matriarch purred further at the sight of her mate bringing her fresh-caught prey.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Morning duties had seemed to drag on forever. Having spent the last couple days with his mate and new kits, the StoneClan figurehead had vowed to help Smokestorm with the daily running of the Clan. ...Seeing as technically speaking, it was his duty as Clan leader. Members of StoneClan were forgiving enough, and Smokestorm was a competent deputy; he was not worried about her judgments. And yet... He was still required to be Clan leader. Who knew leaving his kits would be so difficult.
... He did, considering this was not his first litter. But it was like he'd forgotten that tidbit of information. Not to mention the scare with Snowkit during Frozenrain's kitting. There had been a span of time where both he and Frozenrain thought they might lose the more frail of the two kits. Leaving her side now made him feel as though he were walking on a sheet of thin ice suspended over an abyssal chasm. The separation trickled as unease through his large frame, admittedly distracting him at times.
Despite his mind's constant shifting back to his growing family, Hawkstar managed to function as a leader that morning. He'd lead the Dawn Patrol, alongside his eldest daughter Herondive and his brother Eagletalon. He'd even joined a hunting patrol later that morning. His motivation had been to catch something for Frozenrain but... The Clan didn't need to know that. Success had shone down of him that mild Leafbare morning, with the big tom snagging an adventurous mouse and a bird that had missed the migration memo earlier in the season.
Padding toward the freshkill pile to drop off the bird, Hawkstar's pale amber eyes briefly surveyed the camp. Midway through his journey, he changed course, instead bringing the bird to the Elder's Den. Ducking inside, the StoneClan figurehead called softly, so as not to wake the elder if she happened to be asleep. "Fallenleaf? Have you eaten yet?" From the back of the den, someone stirred, and a familiar white and cream head lifted slowly from the moss nest.
Hawkstar's oldest friend moved much slower than she had before, ever since the fox had broken into the camp. Fallenleaf had been one of the first cats to arrive on scene, distracting the ravenous creature long enough for Smokestorm and Sorrelclaw to join the fight. The memory of the fox attack sent a pang through him; sorrow for young Beetlekit and Sootpaw, as well as for Fallenleaf. Two new injuries, and an old one made much worse. The elder struggled now more than ever to get around without aid, for both front shoulders now suffered damage.
Fallenleaf groaned softly as she pulled herself to a seat, supported in part by the den wall behind her. Knowing she would want nothing to do with pity, Hawkstar smiled at her. "I brought you some prey." A rough purr emerged from her throat, and the elder rose to her paws slowly to pad a few steps toward the entrance. "Thank you, Hawkstar." She rasped as she limped, the scarred skin of what had once been her good shoulder catching the light filtering through the den entrance. "But shouldn't you be spending time with Frozenrain and your two beautiful new kits?" She teased him, slumping into a sit again with as much dignity as she could muster.
Chuckling, the big sand-colored tom flicked his ear. "Heading there now, as soon as I finish checking up on an old friend." Fallenleaf snorted, her tail tapping him on the nose. "Emphasis on the old." She rasped, flashing him a cheeky grin that reminded him of younger days. "Thank you, Hawkstar. For the visit, and for the food. Now go, or Frozenrain will never forgive me for stealing your time." She teased, settling down with the bird. Although Hawkstar hesitated a moment, the fire in Fallenleaf's pale yellow eyes had him doing as he was told. With another laugh, the big tom began backing out. "Alright, alright. I'll drop by again later, Fallenleaf." She made a sound of acknowledgement before sinking her teeth into the bird.
Leaving her with the prey, Hawkstar stooped to pick up the mouse he'd left near the den entrance, and quickly picked up his pace toward his own den. Scaling it with the energy of a tom moons his junior, the StoneClan figurehead ducked through the entrance and was greeted with one scent long-since familiar, and two more growing more familiar by the heartbeat. Unable to hold back a purr, the big tom padded toward his mate, mouse still in his jaws. Wrapping his big frame around her as he slipped into the nest, Hawkstar pressed his nose into her neck fur after gently laying the mouse at her paws.
As his pale amber gaze slipped to the two small bundles of fur curled up at her belly, Hawkstar sighed contently. "I love you, Frozenrain." He whispered, not wanting to disturb the sleeping kits. "To StarClan, and back again. Always." leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain77 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanThe StoneClan matriarch glowed, her purr a loud, resounding hum that filled the rocky den as soothingly as a lullaby. Nuzzling Hawkstar in return, Frozenrain whispered back. ”Always.” Her gaze fell to the pale bellies of Snowkit and Mink-kit, watching as they rose and fell with the kind of peaceful, deep sleep of kits who knew they were safe. ”Dawnblossom tells me Snowkit is doing well,” she spoke of their smallest daughter, who had nearly joined their three other kits in StarClan. ”StarClan blessed us, this time around. She’s getting stronger every day.”
Optimism had become part of Frozenrain’s personal mantra. It did not need to be said aloud that Snowkit would perhaps even need an extra moon or so to reach apprenticeship, or would simply stay petite for her whole life. Frozenrain looked to the future with a quiet readiness, prepared to help their daughter overcome any hurdles fate saw fit to throw her way. With Dawnblossom’s help - and of course, the ever-watchful eyes of the Clan looking out for one another - she believed Snowkit’s future was bright.
Frozenrain stroked their soft bodies with her tail, laying the warm, feathery plume over them for additional protection from the elements. Hawkstar was a comfortable heat source as well, and one she softly sank into, letting her mate’s presence cover her like newleaf sunshine. ”I have it on good authority that Sorrelclaw may want to mentor one of our daughters,” Frozenrain’s baby blue eyes filled with pride. ”Perhaps you could take that into consideration in 6 moons’ time.”
So far away it sounded, but Frozenrain had lived long enough to know that six moons was really no time at all.
