Sootpaw had been dreading this for a while now. Ever since the accident, she'd been putting it off and putting it off for as long as she could.

If she went to Dawnblossom and Sandblaze, she'd have to accept that there was most likely no way she would ever get her sight back. As it was, she was still clinging to a faint shred of hope. Prompted gently by Boulderjaw, the much older warrior acting out of concern for the apprentice (even though she was not his own, he'd formed a sort of a bond with Sootpaw when he had accompanied her and her mentor on their tour of the territory) Sootpaw had finally decided that today was the day. 

Waking up, lifting her head off her paws, she began to slowly walk towards the den where Dawnblossom and Sandblaze called home. The scent of herbs quickly overpowered her, but she forced herself to not turn tail and run, run all the way back to her mother and wail like a kit. She forced herself onward, until she was standing in (what she felt like) was the middle of the den.

"Sandblaze? Dawnblossom? Are you here?"

There's a spark inside us, That we can all ignite

White-tipped orange ears tilted upwards as Sandblaze heard someone coming into the den he shared with Dawnblossom. With calm, patience, he rose from his place to go greet his visitor. Green eyes scanned over the she-cat and he recognized her immediately. "Hello Sootpaw, what brings you here today? Is everything alright? Or is there something I can help you with?" Dawnblossom was out gathering herbs, but he was more than capable of handling this situation on his own. He just hoped it wasn't anything too serious as he hated to see a clan-mate suffer.

He could tell Sootpaw was worried about something and the way she was moving forward had his full attention. Something definitely wasn't quite right with the young Apprentice. She was upset, he could tell that much, and so he let out a soft and reassuring purr in the hopes of getting the she-cat to calm herself and tell him what was wrong so he could fix it. She was afraid and upset, that much was clear, but she didn't look physically injured from what he could tell so he had to admit he was curious as to what had brought her here to him this day.

Sootpaw froze. Fear gave way to alarm, alarm gave way to a calm sense of resignation. 

No point in crying over lost sight. 

She looked to where she thought Sandblaze was. Usually she was fairly decent at this, but it always got more difficult in stressful situations. She was fairly certain that this in particular would constitute a stressful situation. 

and breathe. In... one... two... out... one... two. Much better.

Suitably calmer now, she attempted once more to put her thoughts into some kind of order. She wanted to still be a warrior, this much she did know. What she didn’t know was if there was any kind of practical way for this to be possible. She also wanted to know, categorically, if there was any way her sight would ever return. Or something she could do to at least make it be at even a rudimentary level of usable. 

”will I ever have my sight back? Will I ever be able to be a warrior? Am... am I broken now?”

There's a spark inside us, That we can all ignite

Sandblaze watched the young Apprentice carefully as she looked around at the sound of his voice as if confused and he realized something must be wrong with her sight. Dark green eyes narrowed in concerned concentration as he took in everything he was learning. He started purring again at the desperate question asked of him in the hopes of calming his patient. "First off, lets calm down your breathing Sootpaw, and I'll see what I can do. Just take a few more breaths in and out for me please, while I look you over." He went around the Apprentice a few times, pressing here and there on her body a few times to check for any further issue before going straight back to her eyes.

"Alright so I take it this has been going on since you were injured before. Normally time is the only answer to things like this, but it's still clearly giving you trouble. Can you see anything at all? Shapes, light, faint blurs, anything? Has there been any pain or sensitivity to anything? Could be your body is taking longer to heal than normal." He looked up sharply at the Apprentice and suddenly leaned his lean frame against her own. It made him realize he was much larger now than he had been when he'd first come to StoneClan, but he pushed the thought away and nuzzled the upset Apprentice reassuringly.

His tone was gentle but firm when he spoke next, full of confidence for this young she-cat that was so worried about her future. "You are not broken, Sootpaw, never that. You are courageous and kind and you have a heart that care a great deal about those around you. You care about this clan and the cats in it, and you are doing your best to learn to provide for this clan and protect it. Just because you can't see right now doesn't mean you won't again. I won't say for sure that you will or won't, but I have faith that StarClan has bigger plans for you than you realize and you can't just give up. Have faith, and the path you're meant to walk will open up to you. Rather or not you'll be a Warrior depends on you. Are you going to keep trying to move forward are will you stop right here?"

He was quietly surprised with himself but pushed forward anyway. "Even if your sight never returns, there are ways around it if you're willing to look. You have people here that love you and will help you, whatever happens. Never forget that. Keep being there for them and let them be there for you, that's all you can do. StarClan willing, you'll see again, but for now lets get my questions answered and see what can be done to ease things along." He purred at the smaller she-cat and finally removed himself from her side, tapping her with his tail as he moved around her so she was aware of where he was while he worked. He didn't know the extent of her blindness, but he'd meant what he'd said when he'd told her he'd try what he could.
