It was interesting how Firestar seemed to have chosen a cat so close to her own personality and image. From afar, Bluepaw and Lakefur looked like kin more than any other cats in the LightningClan, and the more time Lakefur spent with her new apprentice, the more she realized how similar they actually were. How different as well. Lakefur would never hesitate to speak her mind in any scenario, her introverted tendency being by choice for the most part. Bluepaw seemed to be more shy and selective with speech than she, though the apprentice's independence and eloquence were the same traits Lakefur constantly exercised on a daily basis.

Lakefur liked Bluepaw. The grey apprentice seemed to be one of only a handful of cats in the clan who shared the same appreciation of solitude as she. I have a feeling we'll get along just fine. The medium furred she-cat thought, her silver-green eyes scouring the snow-dusted territory ahead in search for even the slightest flicker of movement. It was Bluepaw's first tour of the territory, but after the fire, prey was more scarce than it had ever been in Lakefur's life. The warrior kept onward towards the StoneClan border. Bluepaw needed to know what the enemies smelled like, for prey thieves are on the run nowadays. Not that there is any prey here. Lakefur thought dryly.

The weather was actually quite mild. A thin sheet of snow coated the ground underpaw, though there was no piercing breeze or deathly cold temperatures. It was cloudy. The blanket of grey haze would normally make the tans and browns of brittle Lightningclan grasses seem more dull, but the thin layer of pure white snow made the heather shine gold. It was quite beautiful out, and with a glance to her apprentice, Lakefur let slip a pleasantry that she had failed to do at the start of the tour. She had been all business in camp, eager to get away from her clanmates.

"We are lucky to get such mild weather." Lakefur meowed, and after a moment of thought, she pulled out a question from the depths of her mind. The warrior was curious, to say the least. "Tell me, Bluepaw." She started, voice casual and calm. "What are you most excited to learn about in this apprenticeship?"

The snow felt soft, melting in the shape of Lakefur's paws at each step as she waited for an answer. Bluepaw's first day of apprenticeship had just begun.

er mentor spoke idly about the weather, but Bluepaw didn’t say anything. she just kept her eyes on the ground. She could see Lakefur’s paws slowly padding next to her out of the corner of her vision, slightly ahead, her long, graceful strides made bluepaw feel more childish than anything else. They looked remarkably similar, Lakefur could have been an older sibling or even a mother, and even their personalities seemed to suggest they were related. Bluepaw’s mother commented after her ceremony that Lakefur was a keen choice for Firestar to make but Bluepaw just wanted to be home.

The fresh snow under paw softly crunched as she stepped on it, her small pads deflated the snow and left her clear prints behind as they walked. It was brisk and the sun glinted ever so slightly against the frost that coated each blade of grass meticulously, a hand painted canvas. Bluepaw thought it was mediocre, even though she hadn’t taken in any of the scenery since her and Lakefur left camp Bluepaw stubbornly withdrew into her own mind, hoping Lakefur would assume Bluepaw wasn’t in the mood to train and send her back home to the warmth of her mother.

"What are you most excited to learn about in this apprenticeship?"
Bluepaw’s ears twitched as her mentor addressed her. She wasn’t expecting any mild conversation on the way to the borders since neither of them had said anything in a while. Her mother’s words echoed in her head, speak when spoken to, and Bluepaw managed to squeeze out a response.

“I don’t know, hunting I guess.” She kept her eyes on her paws as they walked across the grass. Guilt gripped her suddenly and Bluepaw figured she should try and keep the conversation going with her mentor, they were going to spend a lot of time together in the upcoming months and Bluepaw would feel bad if Lakefur thought she was mad at her for no reason. She, again, recalled a time her mother scolded her for being so quiet, that in order to appear friendly she would have to respond to questions with other questions. After a beat of silence Bluepaw stammered, “B-but my mom says after the fire there isn’t a lot of prey left. What do you think?”
Her voice was soft but honest, she tried to not be rude to her but may have already come off as such. Bluepaw scolded herself, mentally, for creating a bad first impression to someone she should be looking up to as a role-model.
