Sootpaw had, with a lot of help, managed to make it to Dawnblossom and Sandblaze's den. She felt numb, her small body full of a deep sense of melancholy at the events that had transpired. She didn't feel sorry for herself, she may not have been able to see, but there was always hope that there was something that the medicine cats could do, right?.
She was mainly worried for Beetlekit. She felt awful, a sense of self-disgust that would most likely never go away, even if by a StarClan given miracle that her ability to see came back. Not even StarClan could grow back a foot. She shuddered to herself, her emotions once again threatening to rear up and make her panic.
She knew that she would be intruding, knew that Beetlekit needed to be with his family now... but she had to talk to him. If he was awake. She needed to apologise to him for not being able to get there quicker, not being able to make the fox drop him differently, so he kept his foot. She needed to make sure that he didn't hate her for her failure. She hoped he didn't hate her for her failure.
The herb-laden scents of the den assualted her senses, causing her to physically recoil for a second. Everything smelled so crisp, so clear, so... so pungent. Though fear-scent was much less prevalent here. It was there, she could scent it, but it seemed overpowered by the earthy scents of the healing herbs. Hopefully there's something in there for me... I don't hold out much hope, but there may be something.
Sootpaw had no reason not to believe in StarClan. Indeed, she had been the more trusting and faithful of her and her siblings, and had a deep abiding respect and sense of awe for StarClan.
Pinpointing the kitten's location by scent (which, with all the aforementioned herb smells, was incredibly difficult, but she'd been able to distinguish the scent of a StoneClan cat for as long as she could remember), she called out to him.
Beetlekit? Beetlekit are you there?"
