Beetlekit stared blankly at the nursery entrance, waiting patiently for his mum, or dad, to return. He glanced over at his sister Ciadakit as she snoozed during a rare moment of peace. His sister was spunky and energetic, he envied that about her. He was quieter but liked to laugh along with her jokes. The young tom briefly hoped that Viperpaw would come by, the apprentice's other-sized teeth had terrified him at first but he was fun to play with.
The sun was barely grazing the sky, the two other queens in the nursery deep asleep. Beetlekit glanced at Mistcloud's swelling belly. Apparently she was going to have kits soon, according to Skunkspots. He wondered what it would be like. Painful, right? It didn't make sense for bringing life into the world easy.
A snuffling noise near the back of the nursery made his ears prick up; swiveling his head to stare wide-eyed in the direction the sound was coming from. There was silence before the sniffing started up again, accompanied by some scrabbling. Giggling, Beetlekit pushed himself to his paws and clumsily stalked over to the side of the nursery. He loved it when Valiantstride played monster with him and his sister; the giddy adrenaline causing them to squeal as he plodded after them, playfully growling.
A powerfully sour smell - the smell of hunger and desperation - hit him harshly in the face, making him stutter to a halt. That wasn't Dad's smell... The tabby tom stood up properly and trotted to the edge of the nursery, both he and the stranger sniffing at the wall.
"...Dad?" He asked, a slight tremble to his voice. A white paw reached out and battled lightly at the nursery wall, the snuffling and scrambling coming to a halt. Beetlekit's ears twitched as he heard its heavy breaths start to increase. "Dad, cut it out, you're scaring-"
Two bright amber eyes and a long red muzzle shoved through the wall; a second long pause as the kitten and the fox made eye contact, which felt like an eternity.
Snapping out of his daze, Beetlekit screeched as loud as his lungs would allow and slashed at the fox's black nose as it lunged toward him. It yanked its head backwards with a yelp but a powerful hunger drove it to lunge forward again; sharp teeth snagged deep into Beetlekit's hindleg, tearing the skin and crunching down on the kit-sized bone, and started to drag him through the hole in the nursery wall.
"CICADAKIT, RUN!" Beetlekit screamed, kicking as hard as he could at the fox with his free hindleg whilst both his front claws dug hard into the ground, the intense agony being blocked out by a mix of fear, shock and adrenaline..

Sootpaw What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? Vincent Van Gogh✣StoneClan, 11 Moons, She-Cat Sootpaw was depositing some prey she'd hunted for onto the very slight fresh-kill pile when she heard the screech. Her blood ran cold. It was coming from the nursery. Beetlekit, Cicadakit! They're in trouble!
Dropping the prey where it lay - another warrior would probably tell her off for it later, but right now she had more important things to worry about than a piece of prey, she sprinted flat out to the nursery, dreading what she would see.
She knew from her own kithood and witnessing the play of Kestrelpaw and Meadowpaw as kits, the difference between a squeal of play, and a screech of pain and terror.
She very quickly realised the gravity of the situation. There wasn't time to run for help - Sootpaw would have to hope another cat heard Beetlekit's cry for help.
She jumped on top of the fox, aiming to dislodge it from his hind leg.
The fox turned its head to the writhing, spitting figure atop its back, dropping Beetlekit - though keeping his foot in its mouth. There was a mighty crack as the joints came apart and his hind leg ripped from Beetlekit's small body.
Sootpaw was horrified. She went for its eyes, trying to blind it, strength lent to her through desperation and terror. She was scared. But Beetlekit needed her right now - or this fox would probably run riot.
While distracted, she did not notice the claw of the fox, slashing over her eyes as she had to it. Then all she saw was blood. Shrieking in pain and rage, she bit the fox's ear, but was promptly shaken off. She had to twist in midair to avoid landing on Beetlekit.
Eyes red, blood pouring down her face, she desperately sniffed over Beetlekit, trying to ensure he was still alive.
This was bad...
She yelled her heart out, to anyone who could hear:
"FOX! HELP!"

[smear:f3e471]Fallenleaf [/smear:f8c56a] ~~~~~~~~~
A shrill cry, piercing a silent dream, had the elder's ears snapping up. It was not a sound she was used to hearing within the confines of camp. No... It was one she had known in her days as a warrior. Pushing herself to a stand as quickly as her old bones could manage, Fallenleaf limped forward whilst shaking off the clinging tendrils of sleep. For a moment, she wondered if it was just the kits playing again... But something drove her to step outside, to look around the corner.
Cream and white ears pivoted as her muzzle broke into the light outside, pale yellow eyes landing on the nursery just in time to see a spray of crimson originating from the same vicinity as Beetlekit and Sootpaw. Her heart seized in her chest, body threatening to paralyze in a mix of fear and alarm, but she forced herself through it. There's almost no one in camp. She thought in horror, pushing herself into an awkward lope. Her shoulder screamed, and her muscles, no longer used to doing anything, ached from the slightest effort but she didn't allow herself to stop. Couldn't let herself stop.
She could see the fox pivoting itself, preparing for another strike. She thought she heard movement from inside the nursery, her panic increasing slightly at the thought of the pregnant Mistcloud within. Shrieking in a mix of agony and fear, Fallenleaf reiterated Sootpaw's earlier call. "FOX! Fox in the camp!" And she lunged forward, crashing into the fox's shoulder just as the beast tried to attack Sootpaw and Beetlekit. The new weight was enough to throw the starving beast off balance, and it staggered sideways, distracted from its earlier prey for the time being. But Fallenleaf felt her injured shoulder give way beneath her, the elder standing awkwardly on three paws.
Her pelt fluffed out and her tail lashed as she panted, standing in the fox's path to both the nursery and the two injured youths. Ignoring the fear that continued coursing through her, Fallenleaf shifted her weight as best she could, favoring one shoulder. "Yeah, that's right. Focus on me, mangy fleabag..." She hissed under her breath. You're not getting to them while I'm here. She finished in her mind. StarClan above, she knew she didn't stand a chance against the fox alone. But if she could buy Sootpaw and Beetlekit some time... That was all she needed.
The fox lunged at her this time, jaws open wide. Fallenleaf pushed up as best she could, rearing clear of the sharp teeth and landing a swat to the fox's muzzle. It growled in annoyance, tossing its muzzle and knocking the older and injured she-cat back. Stumbling, she barely registered the vulpine beast's sudden pivot as it struck again. All she had time to do was turn her good shoulder away.
A yowl escaped her jaws as teeth buried themselves into her shoulder, pale fur beginning to run red with new wounds. |

Smokestorm This gal right here's gonna rule the world No, I won't sit still and look pretty Smokestorm had quite quickly gotten used to her new role as deputy. It was one she'd hoped for, and one she hadn't expected to obtain with Mistpetal formerly filling the role. But the she-cat had stepped down, admitting that she might not be the best for it... and in her place, Hawkstar had chosen Smokestorm. Pride still warmed her at the cheers that had gone up, the look in the eyes of her mother, sisters, and Eagletalon too, one of joy for her accomplishment. She'd do her best, she promised, and she'd let none of them down.
A dawn patrol and hunting parties had gone out, leaving the few warriors left curled back in their den to avoid the chill in the air. It was leafbare, all right, and it was only going to get worse. Perhaps she could rouse Dustpaw and take him out to train; she wasn't really in the mood to lounge about the den. She'd taken two steps toward the apprentices' den with the ear-piercing shriek snapped her head toward the nursery; before she'd even begun to consider reacting, a blur flashed past her nose and Sootpaw was hurling herself around the nursery.
Yowls and snarls rang out, and then a cry that held pain and fear. She hardly noticed Fallenleaf dart toward the nursery, but the white fur of the elder suddenly snapped her out of her daze and embarrassment filled her, turning her hot beneath her pelt. This wasn't helping! How could she just freeze at the first hint of trouble? Jerking forward, the mottled she-cat stumbled, a fresh wave of horror searing her as the fox sank its teeth into Fallenleaf's shoulder. Rage was quick to follow and she yowled a battle cry- surely some of the other warriors would have been alerted by now.
No time to think. The fox was clearly starving- possibly a youngster forced to forage for itself and having a hard time of it. But it wasn't going to get away with this. Springing forward, Smokestorm circled the fox, who was focused fully on Fallenleaf, and sank her teeth into a hind leg. She didn't hold on, but released and launched backward away from the jaws that had whipped around at her. Back arched, tail bushed, Smokestorm hissed a threat at the fox. Hunger sparked in its gaze- but if it thought she'd be an easy target, oh, it was mistaken. 35 moons, StoneClan, Warrior Tags: @calico BlooRey DVD @medusa notes: soldier girl get 'em

StoneClan || Warrior || Tom
"I'm nervous for them to start training but I have faith in Hawkstar," Valiantstride meowed as he and Hawkfall walked alongside each other back to camp. The two of them had ventured with another warrior on a border patrol and were just returning home. The golden blotched tabby was just gushing to his best friend when he heard the ragged cry of Fox. Fear and adreanline flooded his system as he bolted for the camp. Hawkfall right behind him, their clanmate bringing up the rear.
The new father was frantic in his pursuit of getting to the nursery. He wasted little time, in fact, he pushed past various cats in a single-minded effort to get to his kits. He only prayed that Skunkspots was also in the fray or in danger, he only had it in him to care for them at the moment.
However, he didn't have long to worry about the thought. Hawkfall had parted away from him and found himself useful elsewhere in the chaos.
Valiantstride entered the nursery to see a mess of blood all over the floor. His stomach threatened to heave the small breakfast he had earlier in the day. But he couldn't let that happen now. Forcing the bile from his throat he looked around for various kits..then he saw him.
Beetlekit under Sootpaw's protection with a mess of blood and fur where his hindleg should be. Valiantstride felt the rush of sickness again, his son was terribly injured. Valiantstride had failed to keep him safe.
Realizing he hadn't spotted Cicadakit, Valiantstride found it nearly impossible to scent her over the coppery reek of fresh blood. Instead, he nudged Sootpaw slight, just enough to get to his son. Trying to be comforting despite the fighting going on around them, Valiantstride picked him up by his scruff. Lifting up his son he felt a disgusting lightness in his son's weight.
In fear of injuring his son further, Valianstride was slow to move him further away from the fighting then someone brushed past him. He looked to see Petalrain join in the fighting but instead of being on the offensive she was attempting to rescue the injured cats.
"Cicadakit is safe, Hawkfall has her," She shouted over as the snarls faded into the background. Valiantstride didn't bother to thank her as he carried his bleeding son of the nursery. He headed right for the medicine cat's den. Panic kept building in his chest, he feared the blood loss would kill his little boy but he also had to force himself to stay strong. He put Beetlekit in the nearest nest before calling for help.
Meanwhile, still in the nursery was Petalrain. She was doing a final check for lingering kits or queens but she realized that Sootpaw hadn't left with Valianstride. Despite their slight falling out a few days ago, Petalrain was still her mentor.
Joining up with her apprentice, Petalrain nudged her toward the exit, figuring the young cat was frozen in her spot. Sootpaw get out of here! The kits are safe you need to get out!" She added until she realized. Blood was covering her apprentice's face and a stone fell deep into her belly. Something wasn't right. "Go now!" She urged, praying her suspicions were false. She prayed that it was just fear not something worse keeping her apprentice so close to danger. When Sootpaw didn't move for the second time, Petalrain pushed her, hard. Using her full strength she pushed Sootpaw with her shoulder and chest, forcing the she-cat out of the nursery and away from the threat. Petalrain didn't say much in the process, not until Sootpaw was out of the nursery and in camp.
"Sootpaw! Speak to me! Are you okay?" She asked loudly, trying to get some sort of reaction.

Sorrelpaw napped, given a small break as her training resumed full force. In her dreams, thankfully calmer now that she had talked with Viperpaw and Frozenrain, the tabby apprentice walked through a forest similar to the one of the waking world. It was peaceful, with flashing bugs chasing the sun speckling through the leaves, the gentle calling of birds chattering over head. Sorrelpaw heaved a sigh, sending a prayer up to Starclan. But it was interrupted as a stench invaded her dream. It was feral, calling her out with a warning.
"Fox!" "Fox in the camp!" The apprentice didn't waste her time shaking moss from her pelt, diving out of the apprentice den with her claws unsheathed. Eyes tracked the action in the camp, spotting the lumbering gait of someone who should be resting, not taking care of her clan again, heading for the fox. Admiration flooded her system as Sorrelpaw bounded over in quick leaps, matching Fallenleaf's side to lash out at the intruder. "Get out of our camp!" She threatened, voice deep and lips pulled back for a fierce snarl. Remembering how fondly Sootpaw spoke of the elder, the older apprentice stuck close to Fallenleaf's side once she was released. The injury looked painful, and though she had been injured herself, Sorrelpaw could not tell if it would heal or continue to bleed out. Thinking as quick as she could, she grabbed some of the moss that spilled out from the nursery entrance, pushing it onto the bite. With a nod, Sorrelpaw whipped back to face the fox.
Another pelt flew into view, a second and third racing past to protect the queens and kits, followed by another growl of warning. Their deputy, Smokestorm had arrived. Sorrelpaw immediately matched the she-cat's posture, tabbied fur sticking out as far as she could make it, tail up like a flag. This fox would not win inside this camp, she declared internally, lashing out with a warning strike. "I'll go around it's left, we need to herd it outside before it does more damage." Sorrelpaw called to Smokestorm, not hestiating in her actions. Her deputy was in charge, but this was something she could not wait for instructions. It had to be done now.
