So this is what TreeClan smelt like. If she could sum it up in one word, it’d have to be—“Ew.” Graykit all but recoiled from the stench, but she forced herself to trudge onwards. She already made it this far, and she had to act fast before someone back in camp realized she was missing.
The idea that she could be punished for leaving camp didn’t cross her mind. After she brought up the part of NightClan territory that TreeClan stole from them in a conversation with her lazy-bones father, she suddenly couldn’t stop thinking about it. If he was the clever warrior that he claimed to be, then how come she didn’t see him out here with the exact same plan?
Possibly because it was a very, very bad plan, but Graykit didn’t have the senses to stop and think about what her actions could truly amount to. This was supposed to be NightClan territory, so NightClan territory it would be. She’d sink her kitten claws into the first trespassing TreeClanner she saw.
“Yoohoo!” She shouted, clumsily pushing though a bundle of brambles to the other side of an open clearing. Where were those so-called TreeClan cats hiding? Did they even exist? “You lot aren’t doing a very good job of patrollin’. Where is that Mousestar of yours so I can teach him a lesson?” Her fur was fluffed up, and her upper lip was peeled back over a row of little teeth. In her mind, she was the picture of danger at its finest, but to a TreeClan warrior she’d be about the size of the mouse she was referring to their leader as. It was a miracle that she’d gotten this far from camp on her own without becoming fox food.
In the distance, a rumble of thunder pushed through the sky. Unprepared, Grakyit practically leaped out of her skin. She'd never heard a sound like that before. Clearly, StarClan was coming to back her up in her mission.
