FEELS EASIER TO JUST SWIM DOWN

Firestar uncurled herself from the nest and with a heavy sigh pushed herself to stand. She wanted nothing more but to go back to bed but she had to get things done. Doing her best to stifle a groan when her joints cracked, Firestar left her den without further complaint. 

The camp was alive with cats just starting to wake up. The dawn patrol had just returned and thus it was the time everyone got to their own duties. The evening before Firestar gave clear instructions to a few apprentices to join her for a little competition. In favor of not being late, the she-cat with her calico pelt left the shelter of her den entrance and headed for the center of camp. The recovery from the fire was finished, minus those that had lasting lung issues but it seemed Kindleflare was handling it well on her own. Firestar's own injuries sustained from the blaze were also healed, the wounds that cost her a life were also fully mended, however, the loss of Mapleheart lingered in the she-cats eyes.

She felt as if a storm cloud hung over her head. No amount of joyful talking with her clanmates or even her own mate seemed to chase the cloud away. Realistic about her loss, Firestar knew she wouldn't ever be the same again. Mapleheart had been a piece of her and now she was gone for good and despite her best efforts, Firestar felt the loss like a new wound, raw and itchy.

Nearly lost in her train of thought, Firestar manage to stop herself before she wandered out of camp. Her instructions for the apprentices to meet her at the fresh-kill pile was clear and thus the she-cat waited for them. Sitting neatly with her short tail to her side and ears perked forward to catch the sound of her name or a question directed toward her.

LIGHTNINGCLAN - APPRENTICE 

DAWNPAW

Dawnpaw was restless at the best of times but the leader herself stating that the apprentices were going to have a contest, the she-cat could barely sit still or keep her breathing steady. She had fallen asleep at around moonhigh but woke up shortly after just as the sky was beginning to lighten.

Not wanting to disturb her brother, Dawnpaw had left the apprentice den and groomed herself steadily, giving special attention to her frosty-white patches - knowing to use her time well before the contest started. After grooming, she settled into some stretched. Leg out, five seconds, leg crouched, five seconds, arch back and relax. Rabbit crouch, move forward five paces and leap, then repeat with the bird and mouse crouch. Just like mother taught her and Eaglepaw. She was going to grind the other apprentices' into the mud at this hunting contest - hunting was the thing she showed the most promise at!

Dawnpaw glanced around for her brother Thrushwhisker, who was the BEST at hunting in the clan, her whiskers drooping in slight disappointment when she couldn't see him. No matter, she bet that he, Harestrike and Morningfrost were going to be super impressed by her. At least... she hoped they would.

The movement of a familiar calico pelt caught her eye and Dawnpaw leaped to her paws as she spotted Firestar emerge from her nest. Her tail whipped back and forth with excitement as the leader sat beside the freshkill pile and Dawnpaw raced over as fast as her long legs could carry her.

"FIRE- Ahem, Firestar! I am ready!" She said, remembering her manners not to screech her leader's name right in said-leader's face.
