He'd asked his brother out with him today since it was nice out and he wanted away from the camp for a little while. Life had gone from one crazy event to the other this season, and his senses were still reeling. He'd managed to remain outwardly calm, managing his duties as leader one day at a time, and for the first time in his life ignoring the overtures of she-cats he'd once happily flirted with. He couldn't afford to be distracted now, couldn't afford to flirt and carry on. He had a clan to make sure was provided for before leafbare came, a Deputy to train, and a million other things that required his attention.

So he'd decided to take a walk of the territory, and asked Brookfall to come with him. If anyone would listen to him mostly unbiased, it was his brother.

His thoughts lingered on his family today as well. Would they be treated differently now that he was the leader of RainClan? Would it hurt little Dewpaw, now a medicine cat's apprentice, or make the clan expect too much from Fernpaw? He worried so much about them, and about the aloofness of both of his brothers. Did they still feel exiled because of the civil war? Gorgeleap he knew was naturally that aloof, but memories from moons before suggested Brookfall wasn't always so. He wasn't exactly cuddly, but at least he hadn't always seemed distracted. But, then again, wasn't Silverstar always distracted himself?

Brookfall

It was only natural that their lives branch off in different directions. No two cats were so alike that their lives mirrored one another, and nothing could be more true in the case of Brookfall and his siblings. Silverstar was a shining example of this; the youngest of their litter, yet the first to gain an apprentice, the first to achieve the rank of deputy (and likely the last), the first in the family to be blessed with more lives than just one, the first to sire a couple of litters.

Brookfall kept pace with his newly exalted littermate, and though there was a peaceable silence between them, the air bore the tell-tale signs of many questions left unasked. A disconnect. Silverstar was one of the few cats Brookfall allowed himself to be truly sincere around (kin was kin, after all), at least more sincere than he was with the rest of their Clanmates.

So he swept aside the silence first, his voice warm and charismatic, hints of a chuckle hiding in his tone. "I'd be correct in thinking you have a great deal on your mind?" Brookfall's pace remained steady, even as recognition of their surroundings brought with it a slew of memories. A slew of scents. The Wooded Cove.

"I wonder if this place will ever feel 'normal', again." Brookfall's musing tone was soft, and accompanied a contemplative tilt of his head just a little. "Seasons come and go. Strife isn't so easy to be rid of." Silvery white paws, pale as moonlight, approached the water's edge. As a kit, he had often thought the cove looked like a cat's eye, round and watchful. This eye had seen much.
