Leaf-Fall Day 6 Valley Year 5
----------------------------
He was exhausted. His entire body ached and he felt the edges of a massive headache rolling through him. But he had work to do, duties to attend. And this was one he couldn't put off. Stormheart was retired to the Elder's den, a well deserved rest given to the old tom. And RainClan needed a new deputy. He sighed and forced his paws to work, head up and gaze straight ahead. He was not going to mess up his first announcement as leader. It was mid-morning, the first hunting and border patrols had already returned, and the next set weren't set to leave for a little while yet. This was the best time.
Silverstar padded slowly towards the river stone, climbing his way carefully onto it and turning to face everyone. "Let all cats able to swim the waters and provide for the clan gather to the river stone!" He put his voice out, carried on the wind, and took a calming breath as he watched the clan begin to gather. The murmers had already begun. He was so young, so inexperienced, but StarClan had agreed with Stormheart's choice and he was not one to disagree with them.
He let everyone that was willing to gather then started. "RainClan has begun a new era in its path. With the change in leadership others must rise to the occasion to fill the void." He looked from cat to cat, glancing briefly over each of his siblings before continuing. "Moonshine, come forward." He locked his gaze on the she-cat, giving her his absolute attention. She deserved it, for what he was about to bestow on her.
"I say these words before StarClan, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may here and approve of my choice. The new deputy of RainClan is Moonshine." She was much more stable than he was, and older. He'd chosen her for many reasons, but mostly because she was older than he was. Picking someone young would have been bad, and overall he trusted her to have the wisdom to back up his lack of experience. Hopefully she didn't try to mother him, as was her want at times. Mothering other cats, not him personally of course. But he was rambling, and the muttering had started again.
