Warm, happy purring was Coalmask's reward for his honesty as Squirrelheart grinned over at him. She had made him happy by calling him her friend; she could tell. It made her really happy in return and she mentally promised herself that he'd always have her as a friend, because he deserved it. Then the purring eased as she noted his surprised curiosity regarding her speaking about the breeding regulations with Dimstar. Deciding to clarify again, she shrugged. "At the time I was really upset about it. I wanted to understand what he hoped to accomplish with his decision to begin the regulations. I thought only of how it would affect my clan negatively without considering why he suggested it. He took the time to explain it to me, and while I still don't completely agree, I can now see why he'd find it beneficial. Some cats really shouldn't breed. But he wasn't saying no cat could pick a mate for themselves, only that he had to approve the match. That bothered me too, but it made sense sort of. I mean, if two cats agreed to such a think, like your parents, I don't see the problem but....I don't know. It just rubbed my fur the wrong way personally, I think."
She shrugged again and considered her reactions back then. She was so young. "Now though...I think everything has a reason. If it benefited the clan and those being considered agreed to it, I suppose it wasn't so bad a thing. Thinking back on it, I'm glad Dimstar took the time to really speak to me about it and answer all my concerns. He didn't have to, but I'm forever grateful that he did." And she was, even if it was her preference to find a mate out of love and not because someone told her they'd make strong kits together. The very idea of it went against everything she was. It was a personal choice though, and she would't fault others if they decided such an arrangement was what they wanted.
