He'd waited at the border for awhile before he saw a LightningClan patrol cross close enough to call over. He'd only asked for them to pass on that he'd like to see Kindleflare, that he had some things to discuss with her as a fellow medicine cat and no he wouldn't simply pass those things on with the warriors. Sometimes, being a medicine cat really came in handy. He wasn't questioned, though one of toms in the group looked truly irritated with his words. The fluffy tom sat there among the scorched remains of the Open Woods, looking around at the new grass trying to take root despite the coolness of the day and the ravages of the fire. He had several little bundles of herbs he'd brought along in several trips, all of them for Kindleflare. He'd been collecting them en masse since the fire burned itself out. It had been an excellent reason for him to get away from the clan and see the she-cat that owned his heart. He still hadn't really told her how he felt, but somehow he thought Herondive knew. It was a conversation they needed to have, no matter how controversial their relationship was. He cared about her, wished for her happiness, worried and stressed himself over her every time something bad happened. She distracted him from his duties, which he knew made him conflicted at times, but he didn't regret it. He'd gotten so many herbs at StoneClan's border going to visit Herondive, so perhaps that alone would make up for the difference. TreeClan wasn't in near the same fix as LightningClan from the fire, and the scorched lands beyond the border that he could see was more than enough proof of that. So he would wait, tail folded over the leaf bundles that contained herbs for the other medicine cat so that they wouldn't blow away and thinking of those most important in his life. BlooRey DVD

Dazed, dark amber eyes blinked at the warrior delivering news of a visitor for her on the border shared with TreeClan. Every fiber of her being, every strand of fur tickled with exhaustion, and her processing capacity for anything not related to healing suffered for it. She blinked down at her paws a moment, studying the way her claws pricked at the scorched earth as she filtered through the possible reasons someone from TreeClan might want to see her. And then a name slipped into her mind. Falconstorm. Ginger ears flicked up as she shook herself into motion, trotting straight passed the warrior who'd given her the information in the first place.
She barely noticed the slight growl from the warrior as he struggled to catch back up with her. All she could think to do was move forward, get to the border. Kindleflare wasn't sure why Falconstorm had come; she hoped it was bearing good news, and not a request for assistance. LightningClan was in no position to provide assistance, unless all he sought was her knowledge. Even then, in her current state, she wasn't certain how much aid she could provide.
Despite her status as a medicine cat, the she-cat had not suffered in her capacity for agility. She crossed the fire-scarred territory with surprising speed, sleep-deprivation noticeable only in her occasional stumble. Eventually, the stoic form of TreeClan's pale-coated healer appeared in the distance. A ginger ear flicked, finally noticing the warrior at her side. "O-Oh, Wildcall... You... You can s-stay here." He looked as though he wanted to challenge her, but she didn't wait to hear what he had to say. Falconstorm was no threat; the relationship between medicine cats transcended that of typical warriors. Offering Falconstorm a tired and tight smile as she approached, the ginger and white she-cat slowed to a stop before him.
"F-Falconstorm..." She rasped, dipping her head in greeting. "I... Hope you h-haven't been w-waiting long?" Kindleflare continued, hope igniting in her darkened amber eyes as they landed upon the leaf-wrapped bundles at his paws. |

Falconstorm Medicine Cat 40 Moons TreeClan StarClan, she looked awful. He rose to his paws as soon as Kindleflare came close enough, butting his head against her gently and motioning with his tail to the leaf bundles. "I would wait much longer to get these to you before leafbare hits us all." He could see how tired she was, though he suspected most wouldn't see it yet. An exhausted medicine cat was one that worked very hard indeed. With so many cats inhaling the smoke or burned he imagined she was worn out.
"Please sit, rest a moment while you can. I can't imagine you've had an easy time of it since this fire swept through." Of all the other medicine cats Kindleflare was the only one he'd greet the way he had. He felt a sort of kinship to her, since they'd both lost their mentors. Granted that Rookfrost had been much older than Bluejay, but the fact remained. Plus Kindleflare was a very pleasant sort of company, and he forced his mind away from thoughts of Herondive while he was taking care of medicine cat things.
"I've been collecting far more than TreeClan needs so that I could split my store with you. I know the fire-ravaged more of your clan than mine, so I thought I'd bring you enough herbs to last through until newleaf. Provided we don't have anymore epidemic breakouts happen." A quiet cold season for LightningClan and TreeClan would be nice.
"So, all these are for you, for your clan. I'm just glad I was in a position to help you." You felt the gravity of tempered grace falling into empty space No one there to catch you in their arms ## BlooRey DVD Notes

His greeting was a little surprising to her, sluggish mind struggling to register the action as fairly normal when it came to interactions with Falconstorm. Stifling her momentary alarm, Kindleflare touched her nose to his shoulder softly in return, smiling tiredly at the tom when he pulled away. As he continued, the tiredness melted away to an apparent sorrow, the ginger and white she-cat sinking to a sit where her right hind paw no longer made contact with the ground. Though she'd hidden it well since the fire, the LightningClan healer had been injured during the worst of the blaze.
A misstep while helping others out of the chaos of flames had led her to step on still-burning embers. The resulting burn, thankfully minor in comparison to what could have occurred, had caused many a problem in recent days. Despite the elapsed time since the fire, the near constant use of her paw had interfered with the healing process. She still found herself applying small amounts of salves to it in the quiet hours before bed, to soothe the dull ache that never quite seemed to leave her be. Her pale paw pads where marred a yellowy color on its right side, extending to the right-most toe pad.
Carefully flexing her slightly overturned hind paw, the ginger and white medicine cat listened quietly to what Falconstorm had to say. As he finished, she felt her heart leap into her throat and her eyes pricked with the unmistakable desire to cry. Oh, they were tears of joy no doubt, the exhausted and worried medicine cat both touched and relieved beyond words to hear TreeClan's medicine cat had been collecting herbs for both their Clans. She'd done her absolute best with what she could find among the flame-charred remains of LightningClan territory, but she'd been harbouring a nagging fear her stores would not survive Leafbare.
"Oh F-Falconstorm..." Her voice cracked slightly, and she reached across the space between them to touch her nose to his cheek. "I c-can't... Begin to e-express my gratitude... I am ind-debted to you, t-truly I am... I h-hope that I might have the opportunity to r-repay your k-kindness... On b-better terms, of c-course." Her gaze flicked down to the three bundles of herbs, her heart swelling once more. "Thank the s-stars..." She breathed, her elation evident in the pitch of her voice. "I've b-been fretting for moons... W-Worried of what L-Leafbare would b-bring... My stores a-are low... Much l-lower than I care to admit..."
She pulled her dark amber gaze back to his, her eyes brimmed with threatening tears. "L-LightningClan w-will persist, b-by your e-efforts and k-kindness alone, Falconstorm." She mewed, nearly choking on her words as relief threatened to drain what energy remained in her service-weary bones. |

"Kindleflare." He let her sit and gently butted his head against her shoulder, showing her that he was there for her. They were medicine cats, a united group separate from the clans while still being apart of them. Sometimes, like now, not being a warrior of the clan came in handly. This way LightningClan's kits and queens would have the assurance of herbs to help them if they got sick. Their warriors had the means to be healed if they got hurt, their elders the herbs to ease their aches and pains. In short, he had made sure this clan that he had not been born to, would not suffer. It made him very happy. "Is it bad?" The injury, she was clearly hurting by the way she held her paw. And then he saw the look on her face and felt alarm strike through him. "Please don't cry." He scooted sideways so that his fluffy pelt was pressed against the smaller cat, so that he could curve his tail around her and comfort her. He even leaned his weight back and pressed a paw to her shoulder. "You are not alone, Kindleflare. We are medicine cats, why shouldn't I help you? We are all, after all, equal under the gaze of StarClan." One of the creeds he lived by as a medicine cat, treat all cats equally, regardless of clan or affiliation. He saw no reason to deny someone treatment, though he had no problem causing them the damage they needed treatment from should he be attacked. He wasn't saying that to the she-cat beside him. Falconstorm shushed her softly as she rambled on about being in his debt and how scared she'd been for her clan. "You don't owe me anything. It was my privilage and pleasure. I have more bundles like these back in my den. I wanted to get the important ones to you today, but there's more coming. Things for less likely things, like a leafbare litter of kits. These are for burns, for helping coughing, for the mess in the lungs. For aches and pains, for fever and bleeding. Things that cover the most common ailments a clan can face. If you'll tell me a place and time I'll have a patrol bring the rest with me next time to pass on to you and yours." He hadn't been able to bring everything, since as he'd said he'd wanted to get the important things to her for those already suffering back in her clan. Other things, less commonly used but equally important herbs, he'd bring along nex time. He saw no reason not to share. TreeClan was short on hunting territory, not herbs. The large tom headbutted her again then placed his head over hers and purred quietly. "Your clan will survive. Your territory will heal, and life will carry on. May this small thing ease your heart and give you some sort of ability to rest." Note : I forgot how sweet Falconstorm can be when he wants to. BlooRey DVD

With a shaky breath, Kindleflare gave an effort to gather her wits about her. Falconstorm was right: there was no need for tears today. She'd just been overwhelmed by such a strong sense of relief. Offering him another smile, she shifted her weight to timidly butt her shoulder to his in return. When she trusted herself to speak again, the ginger and white medicine cat stammered out an almost stubborn-sounding sentence. "D-Despite what you've s-said, if I can d-do anything, and I mean a-anything for you in the n-near future... Please, d-don't hesitate to ask me, o-okay?"
Re-adjusting her weight to accommodate her injured paw, Kindleflare filtered back through all he'd said in their short time together, picking any pieces she'd missed that required a response. Suddenly recalling that he'd inquired about her injury, the LightningClan healer's ears tipped back in something akin to embarrassment. "It's... N-Not as bad as w-what others experienced... It's j-just..." She examined her tilted paw momentarily, almost afraid to peek at the raw and damaged skin on her paw pads. "M-Most often, it's a n-nuisance, a m-minor annoyance." She continued gently, experimentally flexing the claws of her up-turned paw.
"B-Being on my paws s-so much since the f-fire has... Delayed its h-healing. But it is healing, and... I've b-been treating it before I r-retire for the night." With a careful sigh, she flicked an ear dismissively. "N-Not much else can be d-done for it, I'm a-afraid." Smiling at him in what she hoped was reassurance, the tired healer couldn't help her compulsion to gently touch each of the herb bundles, as though to confirm they were still there. Satisfied with her confirmation, the ginger and white she-cat turned her dark amber gaze back on Falconstorm.
"H-How is T-TreeClan following the b-blaze? I know your Clan d-did not escape uns-scathed... How a-are you?" |

Falconstorm Medicine Cat 40 Moons TreeClan "I may soon need your advice, Kindleflare, so thank you." He had to concede when the she-cat seemed to put her paw down on the matter, but smiled for her. He was at peace with his choice in this matter, so it didn't matter if she ever paid him back or not. He felt like StarClan was pleased with his choice.
Falconstorm leaned a little when she looked at her paw, wincing at the rawness of it. But Kindleflare was a medicine cat as well, and one with more moons to their shared calling than he had. "I'll see if I can find more burn related herbs." Since she'd said that there were others burned like she was. Burns took the longest to heal, if they didn't get infected first. He shuddered at the thought. "I trust you to know how to take care of yourself. After all, if we fall to sickness or injury who would take care of the clans?"
Being on her paws had delayed things, and he knew how that was. "And stubborn cats in our respective clans make taking things easy impossible." He sighed, considering matters. They would share news at the next medicine cat meeting, of course, but when did he have the chance to really talk to one of the other medicine cats? Even at the meetings it was almost always business like, and he didn't have an apprentice to present. He, like Kindleflare, were still in adjustment. He told himself he wouldn't take on an apprentice until after the she-cat next to him did so. If she was ready, then he would be too.
He shook his head and drew from his thoughts when she inquired about his clan, about the fire and how they'd come through. "We're okay, it took out one of our more abundant hunting areas, but the water is still clear and we can hunt to the other side of the territory. Some cats got burned or inhaled the smoke while we waited to see if it would cross towards camp, but so far we seem to have matters well in paw."

With a soft flexing of her injured paw, Kindleflare nodded her muzzle to him. “Y-Yes… I promise, I a-am taking care of m-myself. Just… A-As you said, stubborn cats m-make things very difficult for u-us medicine cats!” Smiling reassuringly at the larger tom, the ginger and white healer adjusted herself slightly. A darker striped ear twitched as he revealed to her more on his Clan’s condition. She held her breath briefly, uncertain as to what she might learn. She wouldn’t wish upon any Clan what had occurred in her home. Thankfully, the fire’s wrath hadn’t attacked TreeClan as severely as LightningClan.
Relaxing in her seated position, she nodded her head knowingly. “The s-smoke is one of the worst parts…” She commented, dark amber eyes flicking to him sympathetically. “H-Have you been able to… Find enough h-honey to soothe th-those requiring it?” She inquired softly, her tabby striped tail shifting to lay across her white paws. “I am th-thankful StarClan spared m-much of your t-territory.” She told him, completely sincere. Slowly, her gaze wandered to the sky above, considering the blue expanse sprawling above them. Sometimes, it was strange to think their ancestors were watching from high above.
Of course, she believed they were, knew they were. She’d spoken to her deceased brother more than a pawful of times since starting her journey as a medicine cat. It became impossible to deny their existence when she spoke to them regularly. And yet… Did they truly see all? With her tail tip curling in a reflection of her curiosity, Kindleflare returned her attention to the pale furred tom. With a soft laugh, she shook her head and offered him a final comment. “I-It… It’s a s-strange world we l-live in, isn’t i-it? Strange, but… U-Undeniably beautiful…”

Falconstorm Medicine Cat 40 Moons TreeClan He settled, his long fluffy tail slowly flicking back and forth across his paws as he carried on his conversation. It was nice, he decided, to be able to talk to someone that wasn't putting constant pressure on him. Someone that would understand where he was coming from because she was where he was. Medicine cats that had both lost their mentors, though the situation was different. And Kindleflare was older than he was. He sighed and looked up at the sky.
She was asking him about honey and his personal stores and he had to shake his head. "The fire took many things from us, but fortunately it also smoke killed a hive not so far from camp. So I have a good supply of honey for now. At least until it either goes bad or the bees reform their hive within it." He thanked StarClan for that small mercy every single day. The needs of the clan were getting stronger with leafbare encroaching and he doubted he'd be able to sneak away again once it set in. So...it was possible he would be seeing his beloved Herondive again until Newleaf.
"I get the pleasure of delivering kits soon." He grinned as he said it, looking back to the she-cat at his side. He nodded to her question. "Yes, strange and wonderful and vast. For every challenge StarClan gives us, it gives us an equal source of joy in our lives."
And speaking of the joys of his life, perhaps in Kindleflare he could find someone to help him with the current dilemma he faced within himself. "I'm afraid I've done something terrible, Kindleflare."
His blue eyes lost that bright shine, though were gentle as he spoke. "I'm in love. Really in love, the kind that only happens to a cat once in their life, if they are lucky. And I'm a medicine cat. I don't know what to do. I know it can never happen between us, but I find myself unable to separate myself from her and my feelings for her."

Kindleflare purred gently as he mentioned an opportunity to deliver kits. Bringing new life to the world… It was perhaps her favorite part of being a medicine cat. Family was so important to the ginger and white she-cat… Especially now that she would never start one of her own. She knew she would have to content herself with watching as those she grew up with raised kits. Kindleflare nearly lost herself to her own thoughts, to images of what might have been long before StarClan set her on the path of a medicine cat. Falconstorm’s voice roused her from the confines of her thoughts once more, though it would seem the two held similar streams of thought.
Ginger ears pricked forward in surprise as the tom mentioned having done something terrible. For a moment, she feared he would tell her he’d taken a life, when they were supposed to protect life. When he revealed the truth to be about love… Her heart broke a fraction for the pale furred tom. Dark amber eyes softened sympathetically, her heart constricting from within the depths of her rib cage. She listened quietly, allowing him to explain himself further while also giving herself a moment to gather the words to say.
Leaning carefully to press her shoulder to his, the shy she-cat dropped her eyes to the ground. Being the bad cat, so to speak… It was something she hated doing. Yet, she prided herself on being honest. “Oh, F-Falconstorm…” She mewed gently, shaking her head slightly. “L-Love as a medicine cat… I-It is a beautiful, a-and tragic th-thing… B-Believe me, I know…” She couldn’t help but let her mind flash to an image of her brother’s mate, Palescreech. Dismissing the thought with a flick of her ear, she pulled her dark gaze back to him.
“I-It’s one of the m-most difficult things you w-will ever do… But you… Y-You must make a ch-choice, Falconstorm.” She offered him a sorrowful but sympathetic smile, her tail tip twitching from on her paws. “T-Turn your back on your d-duty as a medicine c-cat to live the life w-with her your desire... O-Or end it w-with her. Allow her to m-move on… Otherwise, sh-she will miss the other opportunities ou-out there for her… You d-don’t want to sacrifice h-her eternal h-happiness, do you..?” She asked him, searching his eyes in a manner far more serious than typical of the timid she-cat. |
