blinded by the light of a new sun take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem
The morning had begun so peacefully. Gorsetail had been left to organize the dawn patrol—after several moons, Lionstar was finally beginning to relax in the first few hours of dawn, not micromanage every little thing—and Lionstar was able to enjoy a sleepy morning with Honeysong. The Ancient Stump had never felt so cozy; that was not hyperbole. Never before had he shared this den space with anyone, and definitely not in the context of being mates. He'd been missing the closeness. The sweet, peaceful sound of another living being sleeping beside him. He woke up with Honeysong's scent surrounding him. Lionstar resisted a purr, deciding to contain his pleasantness by letting her sleep a bit later. It wasn't so long ago that the greencough epidemic had sapped her strength—and wore her emotionally thin. Both of them had been stretched to breaking point this season, and the last. If StarClan's feeling kind, leaf-fall will be better. Stressful season after season wasn't good for the Clan, and it wasn't good for the Clan's high ranks, either. Falconstorm had his paws full. Gorsetail—he thanked StarClan every day that the young tom had survived the epidemic—was doing well to mitigate some of the labors of every day life. The golden tom stretched languidly, and exited the ancient stump. Parched, he gave his pelt a good shake and then turned his paws in the direction of the sparkling brook—when a fleet-footed Zephyrfang, Appleshade, Owlpaw and Gorsetail came hurrying in. Zephyrfang was the first to reach him. "Smoke, coming from LightningClan's territory!"It was rare to see Zephyrfang worried about anything. Lionstar raised his muzzle to the sky, trying to see above the treetops. It was impossible, but as his whiskers twitched and the scents flowed in, Lionstar thought he detected a hint of burning wood. "It's coming this way, Lionstar! What should we do? What if we have to evacquate the camp?" Appleshade's yellow eyes were rounded, large as acorns. Lionstar approached Gorsetail next. "We stay calm. Zephyrfang, take two warriors and keep watch at the LightningClan border; bring swift runners - they can warn us when the fire starts spreading into TreeClan's territory. Gorsetail, I want you to inform the elders and the queens that we may need to evacquate the camp."He did not believe the fire would reach them all the way here (it would have to cross the sparkling brook somehow, and even in the midst of greenleaf, the brook was still full of water), but the smoke may blow in from the moors. He wasn't going to have any cats succumbing to coughing fits. "Appleshade, Owlpaw. Take a few more cats with you for a hunting patrol. The Clan still needs to eat." The she-cat looked like she wanted to protest, but reason got the better of her. Appleshade nodded, and with a sweep of her tail, called Owlpaw after her. "C'mon!""Hunt on this side of the sparkling brook!" He called after them. "Stay out of the wildflower clearing." It was the driest place in the territory. If a wildfire were to spread... the wildflower clearing would be the first place to go. leader of TreeClan Note: Open for anyone! Gorsetail Deputy of TreeClan i wish everyone was loved tonight and somehow stop this endless fight Even as they raced into camp, the dread that crashed through Gorsetail was as powerful as if he still found himself in frozen front of the billowing wall of smoke that had all but consumed LightningClan’s territory. Long strides carried Zephyrfang ahead of him as Appleshade and Owlpaw brought up the rear, and by the time they had all reached him, Lionstar was already issuing orders. Staying just long enough to hear what the she-cat and her apprentice were to do - not only did he want to know where they would be but he also wanted to make sure the pair would stay safe - Gorsetail nodded his understanding and strode hastily toward the elder’s den. A small tabby she-cat caught his attention, however, and with a shout to summon her, he paused just long enough to say, ”There’s a fire in LightningClan territory, Littlestep. Warn Falconstorm and tell him to stay near camp today.” As important as gathering herbs may be, he trusted the medicine cat to have a decently stocked den, and should the smoke reach the camp, he wanted the other tom to be able to treat their clan mates for smoke inhalation. Green eyes wide and concern written plainly across her face, the quiet feline slipped off to do just that, and as the thought struck him, he called after her, ”If we need to evacuate, help him.” Glancing back, she flicked her tail at him, and satisfied, he ducked into the elder's den. “All I’m saying, Oakfur, is it would be nice every now and then to be able to take my afternoon nap without having to worry about you making all that noise over there and waking me up!”“You’re one to talk about noise, Poppyclaw! Over there constantly complaining about this or that.” In a higher pitched voice: “Oh no, there’s a thorn in my moss; Oakfur get rid of it. Oakfir, I’m hungry - could you be a dear and get me a mouse? It's amazing anyone can get any sleep around here.”Poppyclaw huffed, affronted. “Well, I wouldn’t have to worry about thorns in my moss if you stopped hogging all the moss Owlpaw drops off. Such a polite young tom, and so considerate - much nicer than you, I daresay.”Realizing that he could stand there all day and they would never notice his presence, Gorsetail cleared his throat. “Gorsetail!” The she-cat turned from her den mate to greet him with a wide smile. “Just the cat I wanted to see! Could please you tell Thornpaw and Finchpaw to check their moss for thorns before they give it to us? They’re so neglectful sometimes. And perhaps if you could tell the hunting patrols to catch a few more voles...? You’ve been catching mice all Greenleaf, and I'm tired of eating them. The deputy blinked at the sudden rush of words that had been thrown at him. Suddenly he was reminded of why he did not frequent this part of camp very often. ”We’ll do our best, Poppyclaw,” He replied, keeping his voice carefully neutral. Green eyes glanced over at Oakfur, who was shaking his head with exasperation, evidently aware of the fact that he would be doing no such thing. ”I just want to let you two know that there is smoke coming from LightningClan’s territory.” With a wave of his tail, he preemptively cut off any exclamations from the elderly she-cat. ”We’re keeping an eye on it, but we may have to move this afternoon.” As he turned to make his way toward the nursery, he heard a loud “A fire?! Oh, Oakfur…” and shook his head. Elders. Couldn’t live with them, couldn’t live without them. The interior of the nursery was much more tranquil than the elder’s den, and Gorsetail couldn’t help but feel a little bad about bearing the bad news that would interrupt the gentle hush that always seemed to lay over the den. Inside, Leafpelt and Rabbitfoot were talking quietly to each other, and after briefly apologizing for interrupting them, he began to deliver his warning. While Gorsetail was preoccupied with the two she-cats, Owlpaw found himself following behind Appleshade. A hunting patrol? During a fire? Shouldn’t they be doing something more useful? He had just gotten his brother back from Demon and his mother and sister back from greencough. He wasn’t about to lose them to a fire just because Lionstar wasn’t worried enough about it. Their leader hadn’t seen the amount of smoke coming from LightningClan. "Appleshade," Owlpaw called ahead, not even faking the concern in his voice. "Is hunting really the best thing we can do right now? Shouldn't we, I don't know, fortify the camp or something?" A pause. "There was a lot of smoke..."

Falconstorm Medicine Cat 37 Moons TreeClan He'd been noting the store of herbs when news reached him of the smoke from LightningClan's direction and the potential of fire coming to the camp. After the immense loss of life during the greencough epidemic Falconstorm did not want to lose anyone else. Not now. He immediately started putting bundles of leaves out so he could quickly pack the most essential herbs up to leave if they had to evacuate camp in a hurry.
He also laid out the herbs he'd need to treat burns and the effects of breathing in the smoke of a fire. That done he left the medicine den only to check on the elders and the queens, dipping his head to Gorsetail as they passed ways. They were doing the same thing, but as the medicine cat it was his job to make sure they were physically capable of moving should the need arise. A queen could only carry one kit at a time, so he'd need to make sure there were others ready at a moment's notice to grab kits and leave the camp.
Since Littlestep had come with news, it was to her that he issued his comment to. "Littlestep, I want you to find at least five warriors willing to help the queens. That way there's enough to carry the kits. Leafpelt has three little ones that can't walk yet and Rabbitfoot just gave birth. They'll need help." He waited only long enough to make sure she heard him then darted back towards the medicine den. He had to be ready for anything, and he would be.

| T he young she kit had simply been sleeping in for once. It was odd for her to do such a thing, since it really wasn't in her nature to "oversleep" or stay in the den past dawn. But, she had been working hard and it felt like a necessity was in order to relax her muscles and her mind as well. The seasons had been hard for the clan, she knew that much. Sure, she had been in the nursery for most of it, but, there was a soreness about the way the clan worked, and though she hadn't known about what had happened until barely a moon ago, she wanted to do everything in her power to help. And for that, she needed to be at her best - both physically and mentally.
Her ears twitched as she heard the rush of paws and loud meows filling the camp. She was easily torn from her light sleep and her blue eyes peeled open, ears straining to catch any words she could possibly make out. Her attempts faltered and though she usually had amazing hearing, her senses were still clouded with sleep. The kit quickly rose from her nest and shook out her fur, too curious to groom herself before exiting the den. She gave herself a good shake which seemed to remove the worst of the moss from her pelt, but she was sure some remained. Still, that was the least of her worries.
Her eyes widened as she exited the nursery and caught the leader being bustled to by the morning patrol. They were bushy pelted and flustered, making their worry easily noticed by the chocolate patched she cat. Not wanting to intrude, but definitely wanting to catch more of what was happening, she slunk into the shadows and took a few paces closer, doing her best to remain hidden from the other cats. When she could finally make out the words, she caught Lionstar giving instruction to Gorsetail about maybe having to evacuate the camp. Her heart thudded painfully in her chest and it took her a moment before she could catch her breath again, but she stood silent. Finally, she made out the situation - fire, smoke coming from LightningClan...
She watched on, horror painted on her face and she didn't even try to hide it. She waited until the majority of the cats had been sent off, taking a deep breath and trying to settle her heartbeat. Almondkit pulled herself from the shadows, approaching the leader with a soft mew to let her presence known if he didn't know of her already. As she approached the older tom she lowered her head respectively. "Lionstar, how can I help?" She meowed softly, though she was disappointed to hear the slight shake in her voice. |

Lichenfrost 58 Moons, TreeClan, (S) WarriorI've got a heart full of pain A head full of stress Before the dawn patrol returned to camp with dire warnings, Lichenfrost had been sitting near the entrance of the hollowed tree in which Treeclan made their camp. Her claws had been working the aged bark under her paw into a shredded mess out of boredom. She had been hunting since the early hours of the morning and had to wait until the next patrol was formed to join it.
The silver cat's ears twitched as she heard the pounding of footsteps and turned her head to the ancient stump; her tail flicking as she saw the dawn patrol return in an overly rushed manner. A frown crossed her features as she saw the looks on the cats' faces and Lichenfrost edged closer, curiosity urging her to find out what was wrong.
Lightningclan's on fire? Lichenfrost stayed silent in shock, for once not summoning a bitter thought as Lionstar barked orders. That could be very bad - for Lightningclan. The silver she-cat knew that the fire couldn't cross over the waters of the sparkling brook but it would devour everything on the moorlands like a fox in a nursery. Open Woods could do with some... expansion and Lightningclan? Well... weakened from the fire... what threat could they pose?
A fresh scent drifted over her nose, Lichenfrost recognizing it as Almondkit's. The she-cat's ears twitched. Any other time, she would have scolded the kitten for eavesdropping but the silver cat was doing the same thing and she isn't a hypocrite. Lichenfrost's eyes nearly widened in surprise as Almondkit walked over to Lionstar - most kits would stay in the hollow tree. Her eyes' narrowed as she focused on the irritating tom and a nasty comment bloomed in her head like a poisonous flower.
Lifting herself to her paws, Lichenfrost slowly walked over to Lionstar with the body language of a friend but a glint in her eye resembling an enemy. She paused just behind the kitten and purred in a friendly manner.
"Brilliant motion, Almondkit, offering your help so selflessly." She meowed, truth to her words, and gave a fond blink to the patches she-cat. The kit might be young now but she'd make a fine clan cat. Tilting her head, she stared scornfully at Lionstar. "However, you should offer your help to cats that are actually useful in this situation. After all, not even the mightiest warrior can fight a fire."
With a sweep of her tail, Lichenfrost looked away and spotted Falconstorm darting back into his den. Giving Almondkit a goodbye purr, and a mocking head-bow to Lionstar, she walked away back into the hollow tree. Reaching the medicine cat den, Lichenfrost peered in. "Falconstorm? I heard about the fire, is there anything I can do to help you?"

blinded by the light of a new sun take it to the world, gonna sing it like an anthem
A voice, soft and sweet as a mourning dove's, reached him from the base of the ancient stump. Lionstar looked down. A brown-patched kit was gazing at him with a hopeful expression, asking what she could do to help; Lionstar smiled, some of his seriousness relaxing from his features in the presence of such innocence and compassion. "I need you to help keep the kits and queens calm, Almondkit. The younger ones are going to get scared if they hear there's a fire," it was a mundane - but important task. Staying calm in times of stress was crucial to avoiding needless accidents. He didn't want any kits trampled, or uncommonly frightened if things got out of hand. "Can I trust you to keep an eye on everyone, Almondkit?"Before the kitten could reply, however, a voice - sickly sweet and edged with thorns, like a bed of rotting roses - cut in right after. Lichenfrost had the disposition of a rabid hedgehog, and he felt pricked by her words, the seriousness returning in full force. With a deepening breath, Lionstar forced himself not to play into her petty hostilities. Did her bitterness ever rest? There were other ways she could be expending her energy - like hunting or patrolling for the Clan - instead of slipping him barbed comments like she was trying to feed him crowfood. "See me after you are done, Lichenfrost." He mewed sternly to her retreating form. If she wanted his attention so badly, she would have it. Turning back to Almondkit, he waited patiently for the she-kit's response - or any additional questions she may have. leader of TreeClan 259 Words | @ellie @medusa | notes Whoever wants to go next, can!
