MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan It was bitterly cold and wet, a unwelcome surprise to the silvery grey coloured tabby as she made her way through the border of Lightningclan and Treeclan. Her steps were precise and neat, just like she had taught Fawnpaw to do on their patrol threads but today she had left her apprentice behind, not to hunt like her clan might expect but simply to explore the expanse that was her clan's territory, with the weather as it was Demon was likely still in his den, digging though the leftovers of his last hunt, or so she had heard. Either way, with the water soaking her pelt and washing away her footsteps, prey and predator alike were almost impossible to detect. Maplebrook pushed foward water droplets dripping from her whiskers as finally up ahead she spotted it, a large hollow in a tree, perfect to rest in.
Energy renewed at the thought of getting dry and warm inside the nice cozy makeshift den the female sprited towards the hollow without thought of the scent border that would normally tell her she was to close to Lightningclan territory for comfort, especially since that rude tom that had almost run into her that day. Maplebrook huffed at the thought and after checking the den was not inhabited by a undesriable nestmate the female curled up in the futhest point from the enterance, watching as the rain started to solidify and gather at the enterance of her little hidaway, her ears perked for any activity outside the tree, be food or foe.

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR If he had to listen to Dovecloud complain about the rain for one more hour, he was going to scream. Therefore, the second it had let up and hunting parties were being organized, Harestrike volunteered - promising to bring her back a thrush like she always wanted - while escaping the stuffy confines of the warriors' den. Desertpaw and Lynxpaw got the enviable duty of checking the elders' pelts for ticks. After running down a rabbit foolish enough to leave its burrow, Harestrike broke away from the group. They knew better than to stick around waiting for him - he always went for a run, if there was time and he could get away with it.
The grasses were wet, and the blades were long enough now to brush against his chin and whiskers - an unpleasant sensation when they were laden down with droplets of rain. Harestrike, not lessening his powerful stride, veered instead towards the LightningClan border with TreeClan; the grass was shorter near the open woods, and the ground a little easier to run in.
Just getting into a good stride, Harestrike raised his muzzle to the wind, jaws parting to taste the fresh, clean air as the rain-scent swept over. A few spattering drops were ignored with a flick of the ear and barely even a thought.
A few more droplets, and he frowned.
Then came the downpour.
Already wet, and now out of breath, Harestrike cut his run short. The tabby warrior's handsome face was set in agitation, green eyes narrowed against the sheets of rain. Oh come on! Why was it so hard just to get some time to himself? Harestrike darted into the nearest dry place - a hollowed out tree on LightningClan's side of the border.
A shocked noise rushed out as he nearly collided nose-to-nose with a tabby she-cat. "What the—oh it's you." It was that LightningClan cat from before. Harestrike's claws instinctively unsheathed, but were quickly put away. Harestrike smirked, pretending that the rain didn't bother him and he didn't hate how wet his fur felt against his skin. This was no kind of weather for a Clan cat to be out in - and this TreeClanner seemed to agree. "If you ask nicely," he mewed, arrogance returning to his gaze now that the shock had worn off. "I'll let you stay in here."

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Maplebrook was perfectly content with her little makeshift den, it was warm, cozy and most importantly it was dry. The young she cat had no idea how long she may be stuck on this wretched border before her clannmates noticed her missing so she had done a little exploring, a few paralyzed but not yet dead mice lay in a neat little pile near the rear of the den. Just as she settled down to nibble at one of her catched, she was so rudely interupted by a very unwelcome offender. That pompous tom from Lightningclan that she had not cared enough to enquire the name off.
He now was nearly nose to nose with her, wide green eyes narrowing upon recognition and the words that followed "What the—oh it's you." " Yes lizard breath it's me, " she retorted quickly, pulling her self away from the tom and staring at him harshly as she retreated to the other side of the den. Maplebrook was happy to leave it at that until the rude arrogant thing actually spoke again.
"If you ask nicely, I'll let you stay in here. "Maplebrook hissed in annoyance " In case one of those hailstones hit you to hard on the way in Lightningclan, I was here first and since I have no desire to match that new 'drowned rat' trend that you seem to be supporting, I suggest you shut up and back off" The she cat immediately snapped back at the tom, looking at him with a mixture of surprise and disgust at his behaviour.
" Now move, you are dripping water on my lunch" she ordered, nodding towards the now abandoned and slightly damp mouse at his paws. She was in no mood to fight or argue with the tom and while she was putting up a brave front, the thought of being trapped for an unknown amount of time with this stupid cat from Lightningclan had her pelt bristle with dislike.

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR "Who cares if you were here first?" Harestrike retorted. "You're still in LightningClan territory, or did you not notice?" The tiger-striped warrior rolled his eyes, and batted the dead mouse over to the she-cat. "Typical TreeClan. Thinking they own every tree in the forest. I'll leave when the rain stops." He didn't want to be confined in here either, but Harestrike wasn't about to walk home in the rain. He was fast, but he wasn't so fast as to dodge the downpour; he'd end up soaked and probably catch cold.
He could tolerate her company, then. At least for a little while. So long as she eats and doesn't talk, he thought, and suppressed a smirk. Somehow, the TreeClanner's name was still unknown to him. Harestrike opened his mouth to ask - but suddenly thought better of it. She'd just give him attitude or a lie. But maybe if he introduced himself first...
"I'm Harestrike, by the way. You weren't even close with 'Lizard breath'." With that being the closest thing to a 'friendly' introduction the LightningClan cat could manage, he moved to the other end of the makeshift den to start licking his fur dry. It must've sucked to have long fur and get caught out in a storm like this; Harestrike's tongue rasped rhythmically over his chest, wanting to get his torso dry before he moved on to his legs - otherwise he'd end up shivering.

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Maplebrook rolled her eyes at the tom's comments on the tree being in his territory and snorted softly when he made comment of this behaviour being "typical TreeClan" Who did he think he was? marching in here, dripping water all over the nice dry ground like he was some prince in his clan. Not to mention the ignorant comments he made about her when they first met. Oh no she had not forgotten those and just before her mouth dropped to spit venom at the latest insult to the Treeclanner the tom did something suprising.
He told her his name, Harestrike and Maplebrook's jaw snapped shut in surprise, eying him with suspicion before she finally softened after a few more seconds of glaring. "Harestrike" she tested the name on her tongue, it felt strange to finally put a name to a face, even if the face was as rude and concieted as it seemed in her opinion.
" I prefer lizard breath" She added, softening her voice to know that she was only teasing him before she continued. "I'm Maplebrook, I would say it's a pleasure but surely you are smart enough to know that would be a lie" she added, the snarky tone she used earlier slipping once more into her tone, Harestrike seemed pampered, used to getting his way and she was having none of it. This arrogant pompous featherbrain had gotten under her skin like no other tom before him and she hated it.
Curling into a ball the female glanced at the tom every so often as he cleaned his fur admiring the striped pattern of his coat and how he cleaned it in long precise strokes. There was no doubt he was a handsome tom indeed, but his personality, or at least what she had seen of it ruined whatever attraction she may feel towards him. " If you are hungry, there are some mice on the pile" she spoke in a whisper, barely loud enough to hear over the raging wind as she pointed her tail in the direction of her kill pile.
He could eat or not, it did not matter to her. It's not like they were poisoned since she planned on being alone. Sharing with the tom was not terriable, he may be annoying but at least he was someone to interact with. Slowly the female rose to her feet and moved to sit a tail length away from the tom. "It's cold over there " she offered as her only explanation as she curled up and continued to watch him dry his fur.

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR Maplebrook. It was a very TreeClan name, and immediately conjured an image of leaf-fall in Harestrike's mind - it was all too easy to picture TreeClan's forest in bursts of orange and red and gold. Though her muted coat colors spoke more of leafbare than autumn, he still thought the name made sense. -'brook' meaning fast, right? Harestrike wondered which of them would win in a race.
Victory was a constant companion of his, and that bred more than enough cockiness in the young LightningClan tom to last him a lifetime. Cockiness, with a dense layer of insecurity underneath. The trouble with being first was that there was nowhere else to go - just hold your ground, defend your position. Harestrike spent more time worrying about what his 'competition' was doing than enjoying the spoils of his hard-earned victories.
Maplebrook wasn't a threat to his crown. She was a cat from a different Clan, and unless they faced each other in battle, comparison wouldn't sour the air between them. Well, sour it more than it already was. They were proud of their Clans - and sometimes pride meant stubbornness and prejudice.
Speaking of prejudices...
Harestrike looked up from his tabby coat. She's giving me a mouse? That was generous of her. Almost too generous. Had she been part of any other Clan but TreeClan, he would've suspected foul play. But TreeClan had a history that was notorious for being kind to other Clans; it made them soft-hearted and not much of a challenge. Their ancestral Clan, ThunderClan, was even worse.
Not that Harestrike knew much about the ancient Clans. He honestly didn't care for history unless it was about a monumental battle, or figure famous to LightningClan's heritage. Not about to refuse a free meal, Harestrike leaned towards the pile and grabbed one of the mice by its tail. He dragged it close, and settled down to eat. "Thanks."
There was no telling when the rain would let up. After Harestrike finished his mouse, swiping his tongue around his jaws to get the last few remnants of fresh prey, he watched Maplebrook. "Aren't your Clanmates going to come looking for you?" Asked the LightningClanner. The last thing they needed was a misunderstanding.

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Harestrike had not offered a lot in terms of snarky remarks since he sat down to clean his pelt of the water that clung to every inch of the poor to. Making him look more like a drowned rat than a proud warrior but that was her personal opinion and if she wanted to stay dry in this unrelenting rain, she would have to play nice. Her ears flicked as he thanked her for her offer of one of the mice she had caught and simply groomed her own fur as he ate the creature. Maplebrook's bright emerald green eyes soon flicked to the male once more, this time when he spoke of her clan coming looking for her and she glanced outside into the downpour of rain and hail and then back to the tom.
" I am a grown cat Harestrike, my clan knows I can handle myself in storms like this, Not even Lionstar would risk illness for some of the clan for the sake of just one" She spoke calmly, mirroring what her mentor had drilled into her from a young age, a cat's first duty is to their clan and since she was not in danger from Demon in this downpour, the lynx did not like water it seemed. Maplebrook's absence would not be felt as strongly and while she yearned for the lovely trees and her own comfortable nest the young warrioress would just have to wait.
" What about you? Won't mama be worried?" she teased him softly, her eyes glinting with mischeif but there was no malice in their forest like depths. Maplebrook was not a unkind cat, just because this tom annoyed her slightly doesn't mean that she would not treat him with the respect another clan cat deserved, even if he was not of her own clan. Besides the silvery tabby could not help but think, for such an egotistical and pompous tom, he was so undeniably handsome but she quickly shook that off, risking inflating his ego even more if he found out she found him attractive.
As the young she cat moved to curl her frame around into a ball , her tail accidentally brushed Harestrike and for a split second Maplebrook actually hesitated before pulling it away and muttering a quick sorry to excuse the accidental brush of their pelts. His touch had felt like electricity running through her, her heart beat faster and she felt lost for words, Of course this was not the right reaction for a Treeclanner to have towards a cat from another clan and so she buried her head in her fur and prayed to Starclan he did not mention it. She was a princess, with the strength of a warrior Fawn

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR Harestrike couldn't snort fast enough. "Worried? Yeah right. Morningfrost raised me to handle myself - but she'd claw my ears off for not chasing you off." He'd get flayed worse than a mouse in Demon's claws for even starting rumors of a Cross-Clan fling with a TreeClan cat. Harestrike almost rolled his eyes. As if that would happen.
One thing was for certain; Morningfrost wouldn't be caught out in this storm. She had Eaglekit and Dawnkit to take care of. And besides, his mother wasn't so... tyrannical as to track him through their own territory. She expected him to be an example of greatness wherever he went, whoever he was in front of, no matter his own mindset. It both annoyed him and pleased him, knowing Morningfrost thought so highly of him.
The brush of a tail against his frame snapped the tom's attention onto Maplebrook. Harestrike caught her flustered apology, while trying to deal with his own tangled emotions. There was amusement at seeing her so off guard - he was probably a better, stronger warrior than any tom TreeClan had to offer - but also awkwardness. He had a mate already. He should've said something.
But he didn't want to talk about Dovecloud. Or his mother. He just wanted to wait out the storm and ignore the white-furred warrioress who would no doubt whine at him as soon as he got back. Or worse, she might be curled up next to Thrushwhisker. 'I thought it was you, I swear!'
Just for that, Harestrike smiled at Maplebrook. "Hey, it's gonna take me a moon to dry at this rate. Can you help me out?" The tone he used was smooth as polished stone, his confidence showing through. He wasn't a bad cat - the opposite. Popular, capable, and loyal to his Clan... What more could a she-cat want? A little harmless flirting never hurt.
Dovecloud would never know. This could be their little secret.

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan It was Maplebrook's turn to scoff at the tom, when he not only spoke about how his mother would kill him for not immediately chasing her off what he claimed to be Lightningclan territory. It was mostly based on the fact that he actually had the audacity to ask if she might help him dry off. Maplebrook's jaw nearly dropped open but she quickly pulled herself together. The male would not have the sasification of seeing her so flustered again. She had already let to much show with her small gestures of kindness, such as feeding him the mouse and not chasing him back out into the rain but she did not feel like nursing an injury and in her tired state, the tom would likely win in a fight, no matter how much smarter and quicker Maplebrook likely was.
He was bigger with longer legs and more muscle than she, and while there was a chance she could beat him based on intelligence alone , there was a part of her that almost didn't want to see the tom in pain. However this sympathy was quickly withdrawn as her bright emerald gaze narrowed in annoyance at the tom.
'No' was her immediate thought as he asked for her help but unfortunately for Maplebrook, the slight part of her that liked Harestrike was in control of her mouth at that second and she stared at him for a second longer before speaking " What did you say?" she questioned, him softly, before the next words tumbled out before she stop them.
" Will I help you?... Honestly do you think you can just turn on the charm and I will fall at your paws? Don't be stupid you want my help, you earn it" she retorted rather quickly, it was a little out of character for her to be so abrupt but by now he had actually managed to get under her skin enough to upset the tabby warrioress. How dare he insult her to think that she would risk her life as a clancat for the first tom to pay her attention.
HE WAS A LIGHTNINGCLAN CAT FOR STARCLAN'S SAKE!!!!!Not only did she risk upsetting her leader but her ancestors as well. Imagine what her grandfather would say if he could see her now, laying less that a tail lenght away from a cat from his most hated clan, nevermind a tom.
However feeling sorry for the way she snapped at the tom, Maplebrook did flick her tail across his back in a small attempt to help the poor soaked creature. However the cold water caused her to jump in the air from a minute of shock and she closed her eyes in preparation for the fall but instead it never came.
Cautiously Maplebrook opened her eyes to spot Harestrike face less than a whisker length away from her own. " You are freezing" she stammered, completely forgetting that she was supposed to be acting as if his charm did not make her legs jiggle and heart do these weird flips. She was a princess, with the strength of a warrior Fawn That's my Maplebrook, tries to do what is expected of her and fail's.

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR "Honestly do you think you can just turn on the charm and I will fall at your paws?"
Huh. Actually he had. Harestrike's past efforts at flirting (mostly with LightningClan she-cats, and then Dovecloud) had gone well; very well. His success rate was enough to put a cocky glint in his eyes and a stride in his step. But this wasn't another LightningClan she-cat who knew what he was capable of and how much of a fantastic warrior he had worked hard to become. "Sorry," the tabby warrior replied. "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." Maybe she'll come around?
She was a little jumpy and defensive now. He must've hit a nerve. Maplebrook must not have gotten a lot of attention in TreeClan, if she was this nervous around him. That was too bad; she was kind of pretty. She didn't have Dovecloud's pristine white fur or Robinflame's gleaming ginger pelt, but that was alright. A pretty cat was a pretty cat.
Maplebrook flicked her tail over his back. So, not a total loss. She was feeling brave enough to touch him, and that was a step in the right direction - until the coldness of his fur shocked her so badly he was amazed she didn't yelp. Harestrike laughed, managing to cut off the sound before she got offended. "Now do you see why I asked?" Gazing right back, aware that they were hardly more than a whisker-length apart, Harestrike decided not to overthink this. "Don't worry about it." A gentleman would let her off the hook. So he did. "I'll be fine."
Harestrike swept his tail around to almost curl at his front paws, and immediately started licking, trying to coax the excess water out of his pelt. Foxdung, this will take all day! He was a little annoyed that she wasn't going to help - but she was right. She didn't owe him anything. Maybe she'd feel charitable later on, though.

23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Maplebrook was actually rather proud of herself when she wiped that cocky smile of Harestrike's face real fast at her comment, it seemed he wasn't used to hearing the word No. The fact that she had likely been the first she cat to ever refuse him was enough for her to gain enough confidence to actually move away from the devilishly handsome tom. Attempting to ignore that she had been so close to the tom that she could have accidently brushed whiskers with him. Oh everything about Harestrike was alarming to her, his appearence, personality as well as he was a fair bit larger than she was.
But as she settled down once more in her warm and more importantly dry spot of the hollow her bright green eyes wandered to the tom once again. He looked so miserable and the way he was grooming himself meant that it would take ages to fully dry out, at least without help. Her heart ached a little as she internally debated her decision. She could either give in an help him or turn around and completely ignore him. They did not owe each other anything.
A few more minutes passed as Maplebrook's brain worked in overtime to attempt to justify her decision and without a sound the female rose to her paws and came to sit next to the tom " You will catch greencough if you stay that cold for long, I'll help but only because I don't want to get sick if you catch something" she assured the tom. Her eyes were gentle, forgiving and glinted with purity, perhaps Starclan was not punishing her as badly as she thought when he first got stuck here with her.
Slowly, hesitantly Maplebrook's soft pink tongue swiped against the tom's shoulder to dry the fur there and she closed her eyes to avoid looking at the tom because if she looked she would freak out and stop. 'Just pretend it's Hawkchaser...No he wouldn't be stupid enough to get himself into a storm like this, ugh... Harestrike... I hate you' Maplebrook's mental argument continued as she worked quickly, attempting to dry off the male as fast and efficiently as possible before she made a complete fool of herself.

28 MOONS LIGHTNINGCLAN WARRIOR "You will catch greencough if you stay that cold for long, I'll help but only because I don't want to get sick if you catch something."
"Thanks," purred Harestrike, making sure to catch her eye. So she'd decided to help him after all; that mitigated some of his astonishment at the abrupt refusal from before. And he had to admit, it was nice to have someone taking care of him. Dovecloud could be sweet, sure, but those moments didn't happen often enough for him to really call it a habit. They'd been affectionate to begin with, but the 'honeymoon phase' had faded fast.
Then they were stuck with the awful realization that maybe they weren't such a great match after all. But Dovecloud didn't say that. He didn't say it either. To admit that was to admit defeat; it was to admit he couldn't live up to his mother's expectations, and Harestrike did not accept that.
The gentle strokes of Maplebrook's tongue coaxed him back from his irritable thoughts. He actually found himself relaxed enough to purr. No one would catch him out here; no one else was going to hear it but her - and there was comfort in the privacy.
In time, Harestrike's fur was mostly dry, and the noise outside had quieted from a roar to a sprinkle. And then the birds started chirping again. The tabby warrior stretched, feeling as content as if he'd been curled up in the warriors' den back home. This log didn't have the earthy, loamy scent of a comfortable burrow, but he couldn't find anything else to complain about.
The tom turned to the neighboring Clan cat, and he allowed himself a smile. "Hear that? The rain's done. I'll walk you to the border." Harestrike's loyalties lied with LightningClan, always, but even he wasn't so heartless that he wouldn't feel bad if she got attacked by a border patrol. Firestar was probably wasting no time sending one out to renew the scent markings. With luck, Maplebrook could get across the border before anyone noticed something was amiss.
And with luck, his scent on her pelt would be just enough to throw the patrol off her tracks. Harestrike made a mental note to run through some clover before he went home. Dovecloud would claw his pelt off if he came back smelling like TreeClan she-cat.

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan The young warrior allowed herself to relax as she groomed the tom's pelt, her pink tongue cleaning and drying his fur with practised ease that may surprise someone who did not know of the feline's personality, while she was certainly not a extremely self absorbed cat, she took pride in her appearance and made sure she kept herself neat and tidy. Harestrike's purr was what finally drew her attention from what she was doing back to the tom she was with and her heart skipped a beat in shock as he finally spoke.
The silver tabby had been to focused on cleaning Harestrike's beautiful coat that she had not noticed that the rain that had been pouring so heavily had finally stopped and her ears flicked in delight as a bird chirped happily outside. " Oh... thank you" she muttered softly, allowing her voice to hint at her true feelings for the tom. Despite herself and the fact that what she was doing was forbidden, Maplebrook liked him but surely he did not have time for her apprentice like crush and she quickly pulled herself away from the tom and to her paws.
" Have a safe trip home Harestrike, maybe we will meet again" she added softly, giving him a quick flick on the head with her tail as she practically ran out of the hollow tree, forgetting that the tom had offered to walk her to the border as she vanished into the familiar grounds of Treeclan territory.
