Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather anxiously waited at the riverside for the arrival of her apprentice. The young warrior had never mentored anyone before, and was always eager to have her first apprentice. Until now that is, as she awaited to do her very first training session ever with her newly received apprentice, Puddlepaw.
She had picked a spot for them to meet up, and clearly showed it to the young she-cat when she first brought Puddlepaw around to view the outside of camp for the first time. Stormfeather didn't know what to think of her new apprentice yet, as something seemed off about the young cat that she couldn't quite figure out.
However, Stormfeather was a cat that gave other's the benefit of the doubt. She had instructed the young cat to meet her at this exact spot at sunhigh today and would determine whether or not the young cat could be trusted by if she showed up on time or not.
While the young warrior waited for Puddlepaw, she did her best to calm her nerves and convince herself she was capable of training well. Fishing was something she had done almost everyday, and Stormfeather couldn't understand why teaching the skill to another cat made her so nervous. @marshymutt | background image | table by phoenix

Padding silently to the river, Puddlepaw appeared calm and collected on the outside, yet inside her heart she was burning with the rage of a thousand suns. This was not much of a new feeling for the small she-cat though, as she'd been feeling angry since the moment she was apprenticed. She'd been expecting to be apprenticed to the deputy or the leader himself, when instead she gets some soft looking she-cat that looked like she'd make a better nest than a mentor. The very idea that she'd not been apprenticed to the best of the best boiled her blood, it was unacceptable! Yet she knew there was nothing she could do about it right now, she was far too young to have any say in who should train her but in the back of her mind she swore to Starclan that she would never allow this to happen when she was leader.
As she approached the fluffy she-cat, Puddlepaw forced some of her anger down inside of her. No matter how much she didn't like the idea of being mentored by this cat she refused to let her emotions get the best of her. After all, she had a reputation to uphold, it would be foolish to ruin it now. So, when she finally came to a stop right in front of her mentor, the grey apprentice gave a polite smile and dipped her head in greeting. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting. Shall we get started then?" She questioned, waiting patiently for her answer.'Not like she'd do that good of a job teaching me but at the very least I'll learn what makes her tick.' The fluffy-tailed feline thought to herself.

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior The warrior's thoughts were quickly interrupted as Puddlepaw approached. Stormfeather did her best not to show her anxiety as the young cat came padding up to her.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting. Shall we get started then? The apprentice mewed. Stormfeather couldn't quite tell if it was eagerness, or some other emotion she was detecting in the young cat's voice.
"You're right on time, thank you." She responded. There was a small pause as Stormfeather considered the best way to begin the training session.
"It should go without stating that I asked you to meet me out here today so I can show you some of RainClan's fishing techniques for you to master over time, to ensure you become a skilled hunter one day for the clan. A clan cannot be strong and healthy without a plentiful supply of food, which is why it's so important to have excellent hunters. In this case, our prey will be fish." Stormfeather meowed, feeling her anxiety ebb away as she spoke, her confidence rising.
"Can you tell me anything that is significant about our position, and the river? Do you notice anything?" She inquired of her apprentice. Stormfeather had purposely chosen to sit with the sun to their faces, and not to their backs, so that their shadows would be cast behind them and not over the water. She was curious to see if Puddlepaw would pick up on this crucial detail to fishing right away. @marshymutt | background image | table by phoenix

It was rather difficult not to show her annoyance when Stormfeather began to prattle on about what they would be doing. As though she didn't have a clue already. She needed no explanation, she merely wanted to get started with the proper lesson so she could begin to test her skills. Though once the older cat had asked her what was important about the way they were sitting, she gave a little smirk, intent to show off her intellect. She looked around for a moment, observing the area around them in an effort to discern what was different about their position before she noticed it. Their shadows were being cast away from the water.
"The way we're sitting causes our shadows to be cast behind us rather than on the water. If we were to sit with our backs to the sun, the shadows would fall over the water and scare off the fish." She responded. Puddlepaw looked back at her mentor with a slight feeling of eagerness inside, hoping to receive some form of praise for answering the question correctly.

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather smiled at the younger cat. "You are correct." She purred, the warrior could already tell her apprentice was an observant one and would be easy to teach, or so she hoped.
"The last thing we want to do is make fish aware of our presence. While it's a slight inconvenience to make sure you're positioned right, the direct sunlight helps us see into the water better." Stormfeather explained as she stared into the depths of the clear running stream that glittered on the surface from the bright sun rays.
Under the glistening surface she could distinguish dark figures weaving through the water, going down stream. The warrior smiled, the fish were active right now and would make training easy today.
"Fishing requires patience," She went on. "You must sit still and wait for the best moment, and then precisely strike. In order catch something you must hook your paw into the water like this -" Stormfeather explained, demonstrating the form they'd be using. "Once you make contact, you scoop the fish out of the stream and onto land and deliver a killing bite to the neck."
Stormfeather nodded toward the water, gesturing to her apprentice where she spotted the fish. "Would you like me to go first to demonstrate, or would you like to try your paw at this?" @marshymutt | background image | table by phoenix

Puddlepaw 6 Moons, Apprentice of RainClan I know I've got a big ego. She shook her head in response, figuring it was about time she got started. Fishing didn't sound so difficult, and she'd even taken the time to watch her mentor's little display of the technique she'd be using. Certainly she had everything figured out and she would soon be able to add another accomplishment to her list.
"No, I think I'm ready to give it a try." She responded, not even waiting for her mentor to acknowledge her decision before she'd begun to peer into the water.
Pale yellow eyes gazing down into the water, Puddlepaw spied an assortment of shadows darting about beneath the surface. The sight was quite amusing to behold, a part of the egotistical she-cat finding satisfaction in how she was able to see the fish beneath the water. 'And they have no idea what's about to happen.' She thought to herself, giving another smirk at the idea of catching her prey off guard.
It was only a matter of time however before one particular fish moved close enough. Within an instant, Puddlepaw struck out, hooking her paw into the water like she was told. To her immense delight, she had made contact with the creature and quickly pulled it back onto shore. Unfortunately, she moved rather fast and jerked the fish back directly into her body without thinking, effectively knocking the creature into her chest and startling her.
The sensation of the fish colliding with her body made the apprentice jump backwards, losing her balance and causing her to fall onto her back. While the grey cat scrambled to get to her feet, the fish flopped around desperately, attempting to get itself back into the water before it suffocated.
I really don't know why it's such a big deal though. Words - Tags @shady - Notes

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather watched her apprentice intently, impressed by the young cat's confidence. Most would have wanted to see the act done first by another before they actually attempted it themselves. There was definitely something unique about Puddlepaw.
The warrior observed the young cat as she scanned the shallow waters for the perfect target. Once spotted, she perfectly executed the same technique that Stormfeather had showed her. Much to Stormfeather's surprise, Puddlepaw had actually hooked a fish out of the water, let alone make contact with one.
Stormfeather beamed, excitement tingling in her fur. She had not expected the young cat's first try to go so well. Although she had managed to catch something, it wasn't quite perfect. Puddlepaw had over exerted her force when hooking the fish and as it came out of the water it hit her in the chest, knocking her backwards.
The warrior let out a small chuckle of amusement, quickly saving her apprentice's kill from being washed off the shore as the fish flopped around. She batted the fish toward Puddlepaw's feet, "Very nice job. I'm impressed you caught something on your first try, put a little less effort into your blows, obviously. Would you like to do the honors of killing your very first prey?" @marshymutt | background image | table by phoenix

Puddlepaw 6 Moons, Apprentice of RainClan I know I've got a big ego. Heat flooded the small cat's body, washing over her like a small river at the realization that her mentor had watched her little blunder. Though whether the warmth overtaking her was from embarrassment or anger she couldn't tell. All that she knew was that she needed to fix this somehow. At the very least she needed to ensure that Stormfeather wouldn't make the mistake of telling anyone what happened today. It would ruin her reputation and any influence she had in clan if word got out that she was nearly bested by a fish.
When Stormfeather asked if she wanted to deal the killing bite to her catch, Puddlepaw gave only a silent nod in response. She did however, quickly pad over to her and bite into the neck of the fish with as much force as her body could muster. Her teeth tore through the poor creature with ease, quickly putting the thing out of it's misery. All the while as this was happening, the grey apprentice bore a look of pure hatred on her face.
Upon feeling the life slip away from her prey, the tiny she-cat stepped back to look at the work she had done. Satisfied, she gave a flick of her tail before turning her attention back to Stormfeather. "Speak of this incident to no one when we return to camp, I can't have anyone else knowing that I hit myself with a fish." She commanded, as though the word of an apprentice could influence a warrior in any way. I really don't know why it's such a big deal though. Words - @shady - Notes

Stormfeather RainClan Warrior Stormfeather quickly picked up on the angry vibe that seemed to be coming off of Puddlepaw in waves. She couldn't help but to feel confused as to why the young cat was so mad as she bit into her prey with more force than was necessary. Stormfeather had thought she had done so well for her very first time catching a fish.
The young warrior was taken aback though by her apprentices response. For a moment, she was at a loss for how to respond. "Of course. Your training is between you and me - and I wouldn't ever do anything to embarrass you to our clan. You're still learning, Puddlepaw, and I really think you're going to do wonderful." Stormfeather meowed, hoping to ease the young cat's tension with her praise.
"Just.. relax a bit, okay? We've all had our share of moments, it's all a part of learning." Stormfeather mewed softly, giving a comforting purr. She glanced back at the water, though just recently disturbed, it was still alive and active with more fish. There was plenty of time for Puddlepaw to get more practice.
"Would you like to try again, or do you want me to demonstrate with the next one?" She asked, looking back again at her apprentice. @marshymutt | background image | table by phoenix

Puddlepaw 6 Moons, Apprentice of RainClan I know I've got a big ego. Puddlepaw let out a soft sigh, relieved to hear the older cat had no intentions of mentioning what happened to their clanmates. It eased her mind a bit, allowing the small she-cat to think a bit more clearly. Wrapping her bushy tail around her forepaws, the blue-grey kitten contemplated Stormfeather's question.
"Yes, perhaps you should demonstrate this time." She nodded, motioning to the water with her tail in one large, sweeping motion. "It's better to learn from the master after all." The mere admittance that her mentor was superior to her in some way nearly caused a hiss to rip from her jaws as she spoke. Yet she forced it down, instead settling of her usual tone of voice, albeit filled with a slight bitterness. She wasn't too keen on letting Stormfeather demonstrate for her, but she was intent on absorbing any new information she could in the hopes of besting her mentor some day.
