She woke early enough that the dawn patrol had yet to leave. One wary blue eye opened, and Cloudyfeather peered over the tabby tail tucked against her nose at the other occupants of the nursery. Morningfrost was asleep, as were her two kits - Dawnkit and Eaglekit. Cloudyfeather breathed the tiniest, quietest sigh of relief.

Moving like an elderly field mouse, Cloudyfeather slowly unfurled from her nest, stood, and tiptoed to the den's entrance. She slipped out into the faint morning light, and finally allowed herself to stretch now that she was no longer in any danger of waking the other queen. Her stomach made a quiet reminder to eat, but Cloudyfeather, after looking at the meager fresh kill pile (no hunting patrols had gone out yet), felt a pang of guilt replace the hunger in her belly.

Morningfrost's words were still haunting the young queen, and she squeezed her eyes shut, trying to muster up the courage to deny the she-cat's claims that she was useless. Or... Or at least do something about it. Cloudyfeather took a deep breath, and, with the same light, nervous steps she'd used to sneak out of the nursery, began to tiptoe towards LightningClan's deputy.

Redscar was frightening, with his bright ginger pelt and many, many scars. She always felt horrible for staring, as if she were being rude, and had trouble making eye contact with figures of authority. Cloudyfeather timidly cleared her throat, tail-tip twitching with uncertainty. "E...Excuse me, R-Redscar? May I--May I go on patrol with you?"

She felt small and even more useless next to one of the most important cats in the whole Clan. Cloudyfeather resisted the urge to look down at her paws - but only just barely.

One of Redscars' many duties was organizing patrols, and he had plenty of leeway to make whatever decisions he felt were necessary when it came to said duties. Thus when Cloudyfeather approached him and asked if she could go on patrol with him he felt it wouldn't be a problem to excuse himself from the patrol he was planning on attending for something a bit smaller. The deputy was thinking just the two of them. "Of course." The fiery furred tom replied kindly before adding, "Give me a few moments to organize the rest of the patrols and then we can take off." It may have all been in Redscars' head but when a clan mate he didn't regularly interact with sought him out and asked for him to patrol with them he figured there was a problem and he was required to help said cat. After a few moments he had the others sorted and approached Cloudyfeather asking, "Are you ready to go?"

Much to her surprise, Redscar was very agreeable. O-Oh... just because he looks sc-scary, doesn't mean he IS scary? Before she could timidly hold onto that hope, Cloudyfeather made the mistake of picturing the red-furred warrior in battle. She shivered. N-No, still scary! While Redscar organized the patrols, Cloudyfeather tidied up her coat as best she could.

She had short, soft fur that needed little maintenance - especially since she spent most of her time in the nursery now - but Cloudyfeather found the rhythmic grooming to be somewhat relaxing. It reminded her of being a kit again, snuggled up to Burningleaf and Flashbrook to listen to their stories and lessons about life.

Her heart ached for her fathers, and Cloudyfeather distractedly looked to the warriors den, wishing they would appear.

Redscar's voice boomed by her ear, and the she-cat jumped a bit. "W-What? Oh!" Red beneath her pelt, Cloudyfeather dipped her head immediately. "Y-Yes. I'm ready." Ready to make a f-fool of myself...

"Good." Redscar replied simply as he lead the way out of camp and into their territory. Having decided that a hunting patrol was a low stress atmosphere where conversation was possible the deputy led the tiny patrol towards the flooded grasses where prey was plentiful. "Was there something bothering you by chance?" Redscar began as they crossed the territory without much haste, perhaps a little tactless but he didn't want the clearly uncomfortable she-cat to have to find the courage to bring it up. "If there is you know I'm always here to help." Or at least try the deputy thought wondering if Kindleflare wouldn't be a better fit for this kind of job, especially as she seemed to share a similar temperament with Cloudyfeather. Approaching their destination Redscar halted the patrol so they could speak before the actual hunting began, holding a conversation whilst trying to feed your clan was logistically difficult for many reasons.

As was always the case, Cloudyfeather didn't fully begin to start the relaxation process until LightningClan's camp had been left behind. When in the nursery, she felt as if the walls were pressing in on her anxieties and fears, leaving it impossible for the young queen to ignore them. Now out in open space, and with a light breeze tickling her whiskers to remind her that she was free, Cloudyfeather sighed with relief.

"Was there something bothering you by chance?"

Owlish blue eyes settled onto Redscar's face, and the she-cat's steps faltered for a heartbeat, her thoughts racing to get in order. S-Should I tell him...? It felt petty and kittenish to tell Redscar of Morningfrost's unkind words. He was the Clan deputy, he had far more important things to do than worry about bickering queens. She wanted to be considered a valuable member of the Clan. To be appreciated. But she couldn't do that by staying in the nursery without any kits to take care of.

Cloudyfeather looked at her paws, watching as each white-capped limb stepped delicately through the tall grasses. "I-I'm... worried I'm n-not contrib-contributing to the Clan." Drooping whiskers and the soft spread of her ears, the dainty triangles of tabby fur folding against the top of Cloudyfeather's head. "I d-don't want anyone to think I'm la-lazy or no good."
