We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear. The caverns of Nightclan's camp had been stuffy all day, and it had been quite hard to sleep comfortably. The daylight hours were sweltering, though Pinestar hardly pitied the dayclanners. Instead of sleeping until nightfall like most, the ginger she-cat lay awake in her nest, green eyes glowing thoughtfully in the dark. Today was to be an important day for the clan, for her. Today is when Dimstar's breeding regulations retire. Pinestar mused, grooming her crimson fur thoroughly. She didn't want to call a clan meeting looking like a rogue!
It was hard, deciding when to retire Dimstar's legacy. She didn't have the heart to do it immediately after his death, though she didn't want to wait long. It was Greenleaf, the prime time for conception, and she wouldn't be surprised if cats had already begun to take mates and ignore Dimstar's regulations anyways. It's better that I just settle the muddy waters. Pinestar decided, stretching before making her way out of the entrance of her den.
Some cats had already begun to waken and emerge from their respectful dens, though she noticed that the clearing wasn't bustling like it had been on the cooler days the past moon. The crimson she-cat almost felt guilty calling a meeting before most of Nightclan had fully awaken. At least from her experience and preference, information wasn't best digested on a morning mind. So, instead of leaping to the Boulder Ledge immediately, she inspected the fresh-kill pile and mewed a short greeting to the early risers, snagging a toad from the few pieces of prey left. I'll take a hunting patrol out after the clan meeting. Pinestar noted.
It didn't take long for more cats to leak from the dens, and when they had begun to gather for patrols and shake drowsiness from their pelts, Pinestar made her way to the ledge.
"Let all cats old enough, and awake enough," Pinestar added lightheartedly. "to catch their own prey, gather here beneath the Boulder Ledge for a clan meeting." She spoke articulately. The she-cat sat down, curling her tail around her paws as she waited for tired eyes meet hers in the dimly lit caves. "You all are familiar with the breeding regulations Dimstar had set in place before his untimely demise." Pinestar paused, glancing around the assembled cats with calm authority. "Some have rightly assumed that those rules have passed with him, but to those who question whether or not they are still valid, I am here tonight to notify all of Nightclan that Dimstar's regulations are no more. I hope Nightclan will welcome the arrival of new blood soon enough. Now, lets get started with patrols."
Pinestar leaped energetically down from the ledge, trotting over to a group of cats by the fresh kill pile. The night had begun.

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart Lilyfrost was pacing her nest when Pinestar called the clan to a meeting. The green eyed female made her way effortlessly through the rows of cats. Her pregnancy was early days still, not quite enough to let anyone know but Shadowpaw and Smokefur had insisted that she tell the clan's leaders about her new arrivals. The female was still coming to terms with the news herself, so far it had not caused the adverse reaction she had been excepting from Bonetail, but something deep down told her that those five toms with eyes as keen as hawks would figure out something was amiss soon enough.
Pinestar called the meeting to order and much to Lilyfrost's suprise a familar face greeted her own in the crowd, Jaystep's bright green gaze met her own with the kind of aggression that send a shiver down her spine, did he know? She had sworn those who knew to secretcy so unless Shadowpaw had unknowning told Jaystep about Lilyfrost's pregnacy than she was safe... for now.
Speaking of pregnancies, Lilyfrost normally would have laughed at Pinestar's irony filled statement, That Dimstar's breeding regulations were no more. Lilyfrost was grateful, any reminder of that most hated tom was now gone. However, not all seemed to think that way as unrest spread through some of the clan and Lilyfrost's heart dropped when a familiar voice spoke out in protest.
" Those regulations were good for the clan, kept us strong" Those words caused more anger within the young she cat than they perhaps should have, maybe it was because of the tom that said it.
"Don't be foolish Jaystep, Dimstar's regulations were dragging the clan down as a whole, Pinestar is trying to bring us foward" The female's words were lethal as she slipped though the gathered cats tp stand face to face with one of her older brothers, wondering breifly if Crowstrike would agree with this barbaric way of reproducing?
" Little sister, what I say in not foolish and you would understand if you were not so blinded by emotion" His retort was sharp and while other cats may be left wondering what he meant Lilyfrost fluffed her fur out in anger.
" I am no such thing, Dimstar's ways have served their purpose, now it is time to let the old ways go, let it go Jaystep " The last part was no directed at his opinion on the breeding regulations, rather more recent event, Lilyfrost was no stupid she had noticed Jaystep sending her litter mates out after her in the evenings, trying to keep out of sight as they spied on her.
The argument between siblings continued as both refused to back down. Lilyfrost's smaller frame stood strong in the face of her brother's bulkier one not willing to back down on this issue that seemed to have taken another turn altogether.

Hollystorm
It was with a bittersweet sting that Hollystorm heard and accepted Pinestar's announcement. The satisfaction felt over those ridiculously confining regulations coming to an end, was rained on by the now... distant relationship she had with Sunpulse. The only tom she would have - had been - considering a litter with. There were many who would have suspected her to birth a litter out of obligation to the Clan, what with her detached, confident demeanor.
But Hollystorm's heart was softer than it looked, and romantic feelings were pushing aside any sense of obligation. Hollystorm's tail flicked, and joined Pinestar near the entrance for patrol assignments.
Bonetail
Bonetail hadn't cared about the breeding regulations begin with. In the back of his mind, the white tom regretted not actually having the chance to break those regulations, if only to see what 'awful, demoralizing punishment' Dimstar had in store for those that did. He expected nothing more than a cold stare and confinement to camp. Which, in Bonetail's case, was usually precisely what he wanted.
Prepared to go back to grooming - it was hard work keeping a white coat white - the argument between Lilyfrost and one of her wonderful brothers drew his attention. With a haughty smile, Bonetail came to her rescue. "Don't listen to Jaystep, Lilyfrost. After all, if we started taking advice from him, we'd all become mindless little drones in a hive." It was only a matter of time before Jaystep found out the truth; Bonetail wanted to enjoy his chances to gloat and get Jaystep's tail in a knot, before the other tom inevitably attacked him.
Besides... He wouldn't dare, not with Pinestar and Foxfern standing only a few harelengths away.

Hazeheart
Like his namesake, the past three and a half moons had been spent in a haze. With the goatweed shortage, leaf-bare, and the greencough epidemic, Hazeheart had done all he could to struggle through his warrior duties, but it wasn't enough. It never felt like enough. Brightmoon was gone... He hadn't seen Littlestep in StarClan knows how long. Exhausted and heartsick, Hazeheart numbly climbed to his paws, moving to sit beside Sunpulse for the duration of the announcement... Yet as soon as Pinestar began speaking, Hazeheart drifted off, his body growing still, his breath even as he slipped into a brief, dreamless rest. It was the soft nudge of Sunpulse that woke him, and he stared at Pinestar, too tired to be upset at himself as he managed to catch the very end of her announcement.
The breeding regulations were over, then? That's one thing I've never had to worry about. Under no circumstances would any NightClan she-cat take him for a mate, and under no circumstances would he blame them for this. He was barely a warrior, StarClan forbid he ever someday become a father. No kit deserved that. BlooRey DVD
Blackwolf
Blackwolf limped from the medicine cats' den, the addition of poppy seeds to his morning routine doing little to soothe his temper. It lessened the pain in his hip slightly, but not enough to stop the look of murder in his eyes. Cats gave him a wide berth. He did not join the crowd or seek out his kits, but hung back on the fringes, before snapping at a pawful of apprentices foolish enough to get in his way. He beckoned Darkpaw to his side. "Patrol."

Shadowpaw
Smokefur hadn't needed Shadowpaw's help treating Blackwolf. Fortunate, because Shadowpaw was currently asleep, curled up in his nest as snugly as a dormouse in leafbare. Yes, he heard Pinestar's announcement. Yes, he knew he should be present, she deserved the respect of an audience, but no he could not make his body move from his nest. Too many days, nights, evenings and mornings spent tending to the sick had left the young tom tired beyond words. He was recovering, but the best thing for him now was to sleep. So, tucking his tail over his nose, Shadowpaw snuggled deeper into the moss, and went back to dreaming.

41 Moons Tom NightClanHe'd been called forth from the depths of the warrior's den by Pinestar's voice. Though, depths was perhaps not the most accurate term. In fact, he'd moved his nest to the front of the den. Recent events had made his nest's old spot... Less than convenient. The logical (and painful) answer had been to move it. This was how he came to sleep at the front of the den, despite being a senior warrior. He moved stiffly, gaze downcast as he weaved around other NightClan cats, relying primarily on muted instinct rather than his usual careful attention.
Finding an acceptable seat near the edge of the gathering cats, Sunpulse kept his gaze upon his paws, for fear of meeting the green eyes that could both lift and crush his heart. It was safer this way; he didn't need his eyes to hear what Pinestar had to say. Movement to his left barely caught his attention, his ear pivoting as Hazeheart settled down beside him. His friend's mind was too preoccupied to notice that Sunpulse didn't offer him a greeting, and perhaps that was for the best. He wasn't really in a greeting mood.
Hazeheart's weight settling against his shoulder indicated to the ginger tom that the tortoiseshell had drifted off. The weight of his friend was nothing in comparison to the weight in his chest, and so Sunpulse made no move to dislodge his friend. Not until Pinestar began speaking at least. As she began to remind them of the previous leader's imposed breeding regulations, the senior warrior shifted his weight to nudge Hazeheart with his shoulder distractedly, eventually managing to rouse the other tom from his nap. The actual announcement succeeded only to rub grit to his metaphorical wounds.
He could remember so vividly the upset he'd felt when Dimstar had first introduced the regulations. Yet he felt no joy as they were revoked; there was only empty indifference. What was the point? Only briefly making sure Hazeheart was standing on his own four paws again, the ginger tom rose to his paws as the meeting drew to a close. He could hear the sounds of conflict unfolding from the other side of the circle, but he couldn't care enough to listen. Dragging his eyes from the ground long enough to glance at his friend, the tom mumbled dully. "Going hunting, if you want to come. If not, see you later." -- Word Count: ~400 words Tags: Fawn Notes: </3

JaYSteP 42 Moons | NightClan | Senior Warrior Let it go? Is that what Nightclan is supposed to do when presented with a conflict? Dimstar was murdered by Demon, and what did Pinestar do? She let it go. Now Nightclan is stuck taking orders from a spineless oaf. Dimstar always solved a problem by acting on it, not by sitting back and doing nothing. Bonetail is probably why he put the breeding regulations in place. Jaystep was infuriated that Nightclan's "so called" leader was tearing down the one thing that made sure Nightclan's next generations were warrior-born and built. Speaking of that sorry excuse of a warrior, Bonetail... Jaystep thought edgily as the white tom approached. The lazy warrior beat him in response, blatantly taunting Jaystep.
Was he trying to defend her? The words that came out of Bonetail's mouth made Jaystep's hackles rise dangerously. The black tom's shed an chilling glare, his green gaze uncomfortably calm and collected despite his posture. He looked like a warrior on the brink of battle, two heartbeats away from racing into the fray. I want to make him bleed. Jaystep mused. The black tom was no longer caught up in the silly argument with Lilyfrost, thus Bonetail had saved them from further embarrassment in front of Pinestar, who stationed herself only a couple paces away from the arguing trio. The crimson she-cat stared calmly at the three, no doubt deciding whether or not to intervene. Lilyfrost and Jaystep disagreed, and that would never change. Siblings always argued. What made the Nightclan leader's pelt prickle is Jaystep's reaction to the languid, white tom.
Bonetail made a certain evil fill Jaystep's mind with vile thoughts. I would rip that spoiled smile from his lips if I could get away with it. The tom clenched his jaws together tightly. It would be easier to kill him and get away with it. The black warrior took a few steps towards the tom, bringing his face only a frog-length from Bonetail's whiskers.
"Take this advice." Jaystep growled slowly, enunciating each word icily, his voice hardly more than a whisper. "If you ever patronize me again..." The black tom let out a thin, empty smile, coupled with a sinister chuckle.
Jaystep's features flattened, his green glare unfaltering. The tom turned to walk away. He was on the brink of ripping Bonetail to shreds, though he couldn't find it in himself to attack him in front of his sister. She seems to be quite fond of him. He thought ominously.
One day. Jaystep told himself assuredly. One day that cat will get what's coming to him.

Lilyfrost & Rainsong
Lilyfrost unflinching gaze left her older brother's with a hint of regret in her green eyes when Bonetail approached, stating that if they listerned to Jaystep then they would become mindless drones and she frowned slightly in responce. While she knew Bonetail was really coming to her rescue and she was greatful for that, the female knew that Jaystep would never hurt her and having her sibling spoke about as if he was a complete idiot did not do much to settle the already uncomfortable situation
. Lilyfrost hated arguements, with Jaystep and Crowstike in particular, after all they had practically raised her alongside their mother when Thorntail was exiled and then killed. No matter how much Lilyfrost's own opinion mattered to her, she did truely love her brothers dearly. Pinestar had been watching the trio argue now for more than a few seconds and while the ginger leader undoubtedly knew that Jaystep would never harm Lilyfrost, the way her brother was staring at the white tom made even the grey warrior feel even more uneasy.
Of course her nerves were futher amplified when a very familiar voice suddenly came out of the darkness, A old grey she cat with eyes as sharp as they were in her youth was approaching the siblings and Bonetail with a placid stare on her perfectly angled face. " That's enough Jaystep, settle down before someone gets hurt" The older she cat, so similar looking to that of her only daughter gave both her offspring a knowing look before her pale green eyes landed on Bonetail. A breif nod of acknowledge was given to both the white tom and ginger leader of the clan before the elder female spoke once again.
" Hmmm, leave the tom alone Jaystep, he recently lost his mother, besides your sister seems to like him" she added pointedly looking at Lilyfrost who despite herself and her persona shrunk back like a strinking violet when her mother's gaze met her own. Satisfied she had done enough to settle the situation for now the matriach moved to sit next to her kit's offering Lilyfrost a lick to her head and Jaystep an affectionate pat with her tail before she turned her attention to her daughter.
" Now Lilyfrost, you would do well to ensure that your friend understands than Jaystep is not a mindless drone" She added, glancing at the white tom, compassion lining her gaze but no matter what happened to Bonetail Rainsong would never allow her kits to be taunted unnessarily.
Lilyfrost stayed silent throught her little rant and finally when her mother's harsh gaze seemed to feel like it was boring into her skull did she nod her head and flick her tail in acknowledgement of the elder cat's words . " Of course Mother" she spoke softly, like her brother had done but without any hostily in her words before she rose to her paws and silently with a nudge to Bonetail so that he followed her she decided to walk away. She was hungry and stress was not good for the kits, at least that is what Smokefur had told her.
