Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart For once in her entire life, Lilyfrost was nervous, It was a very strange feeling. One of pure helplessness that Lilyfrost had never experienced, she was always in control, always a step ahead of those around her but now Smokefut's words were playing on repeat in her head, making her nervousness all the more real as she paced around her nest.
Her news was exciting to some, the promise of the future that was the ultimate goal of most cats but Lilyfrost had been caught of guard, when Smokefur had confirmed for the third time what was happening to her, the reality of it all set in. Steeling herself for the worse reaction from the tom she had devoted so much of her time to, she approached Bonetail's nest, observing his still figure had her breathe a sigh of resignation. ]
If she did not tell him what was on her chest then she had no doubt that Smokefur would, the medicine cat had been very firm in her accessment of the grey she-cat.
" Bonetail, I have something to tell you" the words were hushed, so that only the male could hear, her news was meant for his ears only and while it would surely cause a few issues, especially with Lilyfrost's " armada" of brothers. He needed to know, she needed to tell him but she was sacred, telling him would make it real and she couldn't take it back.

27 Moons. Tom. NightClan.
⇒I'm bad behavior but I do it in the best way⇐
Bonetail had, unsurprisingly, been sleeping. It took repeated prods from Lilyfrost to make the slothful tom open his eyes at all; fixing one golden eye on her, the blue one still hidden behind a white eyelid, the urgency of her tone was what finally woke him. Bonetail stretched, watching her cautiously. It's too early for trouble.
Though he wanted to be annoyed that she'd woken him up to no doubt share some unpleasant news with him, or report some awful new development in the Clan (did they lose another deputy so fast?), but he couldn't find the usual acid pool of resentment he felt for anyone fool enough to interrupt his sleep.
"Fine," he mewed, tone flat from lingering drowsiness. "Do you want to talk here, or somewhere else?" Bonetail couldn't care less about everyone else's comforts if he tried, however that didn't mean he wanted to stand around the warriors' den, gossiping. The way Lilyfrost was acting, though... It must've been serious.
Bonetail flicked her flank with his tail, and made the decision for her - leading the way to the camp entrance.
"So," said Bonetail, turning to face her once they were outside. "What?"
What did she have to tell him so badly? He didn't like guessing games (too much effort), so he didn't try to predict the first words out of the she-cat's mouth. Better to just shut up and listen. So he did.

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart The grey she-cat's heart sank as Bonetail opened one of his eyes to glance at her, seemingly bewildered by her strange urgency and seemed mildly annoyed when he finally moved from his nest, touched his tail to her flank and walked off outside, enquiring as to what was so urgent that she had to wake him up for it.
Lilyfrost could barely breathe through the lump that was forming in her throat, she hated being nervous and it was strange for her to feel so much emotion about this one ..."thing". Lilyfrost was as stony hearted as her pelt, the ashy grey female held little kindness in her bright green gaze, except for those she considered less intolerable than most, namely her brothers and more recently Bonetail.
Lilyfrost's maw dropped open as Bonetail fell silent, clearing waiting for her to explain why she had woken him and sounded so urgent. " Bonetail" she began but ended up trailing off because... well how was she supposed to tell him.
Finally after a few seconds of her jaw just laying slack she managed to muster up the courage to say what she had been dreading since she woke up that morning. " Bonetail, I'm pregnant" she managed to say in a suprisingly calm tone that felt like it came from someone else with the exact same voice as she did. Hearing the words escape her lips made the green eyed warrior's eyes water with emotion.
She was not sure if he would understand just how big a deal this was, Jaystep and Crowstrike were going to kill her and Bonetail had only recently lost his mother so she was accutely aware of how touchy he may be on the subject but one thing could not be changed, Lilyfrost was pregnant, Smokefur had been forced to confirm this numerous times while Lilyfrost near hyperventilated over the concept of being a mother, or even Bonetail being a father, she had known from the beginning what she was getting herself into, flirting with the pale tom but despite it all she had never expected this.
Bringing kits into the world had not been on her death list but it was happening, the fact she had told the father of the young and precious lives now growing inside her just made it all the more real. " I just thought you should know, I don't expect anything from you" she added as an afterthought, She wanted Bonetail to be with her because he wanted to not because he had to because of what they had done. If Bonetail never spoke to her again or never saw the kits then at least she would know that she had done what she could. Her kits would have one loving parent.

27 Moons. Tom. NightClan.
⇒I'm bad behavior but I do it in the best way⇐
Lilyfrost's announcement had the same effect as accidentally falling into the ambush pond in leafbare; he was left startled and pointlessly upset, though he had no one to blame but himself. (He wouldn't, of course) Bonetail's ears flattened, and he avoided her gaze, green and blue eyes darting to the side as if something less responsibility-laden awaited him there.
And what does she want from me? To be the perfect, doting father? The perfect, doting mate? Would she expect him to bring her fresh kill every day for the rest of his life? Bonetail didn't know how this was going to change their relationship, but he was already setting himself up to hate it.
"Congratulations," he mewed unenthusiastically, his tone polite - reserved, as if he were just the friend of a friend hearing the good news, not the father of her unborn kits. Bonetail's ear twitched. He didn't want Lilyfrost to turn into just another cat he had to avoid; Pinestar, Foxfern, his father, his sister, and anyone who had the power to remind him of his responsibilities he was frequently (and wholeheartedly) neglecting.
Anyone who felt like he should bend over backwards to serve the Clan or further their agendas.
Bonetail could picture Lilyfrost nagging him in the coming moons - as annoyed with him as he was with her. Great. Just what I needed.
Apparently he was gaining a litter, but at the cost of their easy, comfortable, amusing relationship.
Until she assuaged some of his fears.
"I just thought you should know, I don't expect anything from you."
Bonetail at once relaxed, and even managed a throaty purr. "Oh. Good. I wouldn't want anything to get in the way of our..." His eyes glinted, and he smirked, not bothering to find an adequate word to describe what they had. "...friendship. They'll be beautiful. NightClan could use more cats like you and me." With warriors like Oakblaze around...
Bonetail almost rolled his eyes. This Clan had a 'common sense shortage' the same way StoneClan had a water shortage every greenleaf.

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart His reaction had been one she had been expecting, Shock, but to her surprise there was no extreme denial like she had shown or even the slightlest hint of the pure diggust she had been expecting. The grey she cat could only hope that the male did not now hate her for her announcement. She gave a stiff nod when he muttered congratulations and then much to her relief seemed to relax after she added that she didn't expect anything of him, father or mate related.
" No, I can assure you it does not change our friendship, we both know that we can be ourselves around the other" she continued, feeling a little better about spending time with the male. " I am about to go hunting, a few minutes where i don't have to play nice" she mused aloud, glancing at the male with a playful smirk the young female turned away from the tom ready to go hunt by herself if he did not want to go with her.
" Starclan, please don't let him hate me" she mused almost in a whisper to herself as she turned. She cared about the tom and while she could deal with most cat's despising her, his opinion meant more to her,

⇒I'm bad behavior but I do it in the best way⇐
Already, their relationship was turning back to normal. The waters had been disturbed for a short while, but it had grown still again. Bonetail accepted her invitation with a loose smirk, circling around her until he was side by side, white fur brushing against gray. "Don't overexert yourself," Bonetail added, tone lazy as if it were an afterthought. "Precious cargo."
This thought gradually paved the way to thoughts about her family; his first thought was that he knew very little about her parents, and that probably wouldn't change much in the future. Unless he happened to bump into them on one of his probably-rare visits to the nursery.
The other, was that she had more brothers than anyone cat needed. Bonetail's whiskers stiffened, and he didn't bother to hide his irritation. "What are you going to tell your savage pack of siblings? I'd rather not be torn limb from limb." One, he could fight. All of them? Fat chance. Bonetail didn't have a death wish.
He didn't like the way Jaystep and Crowstrike had been looking at him these past few days... He had taken it as a chance to gloat, at first, feeling smug over Lilyfrost's obvious preference for him. However, now that his personal safety was involved...
If they wanted him to renounce his role as father to Lilyfrost's litter before they even got here, Bonetail wasn't opposed to those terms. If it meant he got to keep his hide, and have fewer responsibilities, then he couldn't help but think he was getting the better end of the deal.

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart Just like that, things seemed to go back to normal. Bonetail had his usual smirk on his handsome face and Lilyfrost was content to just sit there for a minute, letting her fur mingle with the tom's, but his words drew her out of her thoughts, when mention of her brothers arose and the female almost swore that she detected the slightest hint of fear in her companions tone. Why was he afraid?
Sure Jaystep seemed intimidating to the regular cat but to her, his only sister... he was a great deal softer and Crowstrike... he wouldn't dare soil their mother's opinion of him,. Rainsong lay in the elder's den, content to sleep her days away, she believed she had served her time in the prision she had often called Dimstar's rule and now was her chance for freedom.
" Let me deal with them, they look tough but deep down they are softies" she assured the male, knowing full well of her families fearsome reputation and the reality that her brother's compassion really only applied to her and each other but while Lilyfrost was around, Bonetail was safe from her brother's less civil ways of sorting out issues. " My mother would never allow her precious son's to fight over something they can do nothing about" She added, a tone of perhaps jealousy hinting in her tone.
Yes Lilyfrost was her families beloved only sister but she was not the only female in their family and since they were kits she had always remembered Rainsong doting on her eldest sons, something she had never shown to her last litter. Perhaps because so many of litter mates supported those bright green eyes of their father. Thorntail had been a respectable tom who had made a grave mistake, at least in Rainsong's opinion and none of her six kits ever seemed to be allowed to argue with that.
Though Lilyfrost knew that Jaystep and Crowstrike had their oen opinions of their father, Lilyfrost had always felt disconnected, having never really spent time with the tom before his betrayal. " Besides I am not the little kit they want me to be, I can make my own decisions and who I choose to share relations with is none of their business" she added gruffly, half annoyed at the implication she somehow detected in the tom beside her, that her brother controled her life.

" Let me deal with them, they look tough but deep down they are softies."
Softies? Bonetail snorted. Are we talking about the same cats? Jaystep and Crowstrike in particular were about as cuddly as a hedgehog. "If you say so," he replied, making no effort to hide his skepticism. "But if they start a fight, I'm going to defend myself." Verbally or with claws. Whatever turned out to be... necessary.
Bonetail's ear flicked. Had he heard a note of annoyance in her tone just now? He didn't know the details (or even a vague understanding) of Lilyfrost's relationship with her mother. If it was anything like his own relationship with his father, then both their parent-figures left a lot to be desired. Hollystorm was obviously the favorite, though Blackwolf had turned equally cold and distant with all his kits...
It was as if, with Ghostlight's passing, he had lost most (if not all) of his heart. Bonetail felt a pang of sympathy for his father. It was clear that their parents had loved each other, but he hadn't realized how much until she had died. Blackwolf wasn't the same. He was like a cat caught in leafbare, knowing the snow and the ice would never, ever melt.
"Is Rainsong going to bombard you with queenly advice?" Bonetail mewed, keeping his thoughts away from his personal family grief by trying to get a better sense of Lilyfrost's. "Or are you keeping them a secret?" Them being the unborn kits.

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart Lilyfrost heard the disbelief in her companion's voice as he spoke on her opinion of her brother's being more compassionate than they looked, It was then that Bonetail spoke of defending himself and Lilyfrost felt undeniably stupid, after all she had never considered the actual danger she had now put the male in. While Lilyfrost was the baby sister and would never be harmed, she knew Jaystep and Crowstrike did not take so kindly to Bonetail, in fact Jaystep in particular seemed to have it out for the white tom.
The whole situation annoyed Lilyfrost, Why couldn't they see she was happier when she was with Bonetai? Did they hate her that much that they would fight the one tom that she actually cared romantically about? All because she choose to share a nest with this particular tom.
" While I am around, they wouldn't dare" she reassured but there was the slightlest hint of uncertainity in her voice that she quickly pushed aside, there was always the chance that her brothers may choose to approach the male when she was not around, but being deceptive was something that their father Thorntail would do and both Jaystep and Crowstrike had made their opinions on their sire clear.
Lilyfrost almost snorted in amusement when Bonetail mentioned her mother, if she would be offering any maternal advice. " I doubt it" she stated simply, letting no emotion slip into her tone, she hated that she was forced to do that, especially in front of the one tom she could be herself around but Rainsong was a touchy subject and she could only hope that Bonetail was senisable enough to let it go, at least for now.
Bonetail seemed to get the message when he changed the topic to the kits growing in her belly and Lilyfrost sighed, letting the tension from her body fade in the company of the one tom that made her feel something, made her want to protect and care like she had never before. " I honestly don't know, Smokefur says that I will have to tell Pinestar and Foxfern before I start to show, as for the family side of things I have never been so unsure of what to do in my life" she admitted softly.
Lilyfrost was a strong cat, she nearly broke down her walls and showed her true emotions but with all the stress and shock happening around her she could not help but feel a little overwhelmed. "So don't tell them," he replied, at once taking a hard stance against sharing her business with anyone not on a 'need-to-know' list. That amounted to himself, Pinestar, and probably Foxfern - just so they could push her into the nursery when she really started showing. "You can tell Pinestar and Foxfern, but as for your family - they can figure it out themselves."
Besides, queens were not required to reveal the father of their litters. Lilyfrost's business was her own, and what would anyone care as long as the kits were healthy or good, obedient little warriors? Bonetail couldn't guarantee that last outcome (and didn't want to), but he knew enough to confidently say they'd be healthy and beautiful.
Bonetail wasn't much of an expert in the way of comforting others. All he could do was be himself (actually, all he wanted to do was be himself), he didn't want to put on a mask of compassion or concern where there wasn't any. But Lilyfrost was different. His ears twitched, detecting her complicated feelings of uncertainty.
"Don't worry," he said softly. "It's going to work out fine." Probably. If they just carried on exactly like this, what would go wrong?

Lilyfrost NightClan Warrior Let your heart be your compass, sweetheart Lilyfrost did not really know what to expect when she admitted her little fear to Bonetail, the whole point of their relationship was there was no pretending something was there if it wasn't. The fact that he had not immediately ended their friendship and walked away without a glance back gave her a little hope, for what exactly she was not sure.
What did she want from Bonetail? the certainity of knowing how he really felt about her, to know that he would not abandon her when things got hard.Lilyfrost was admittedly a little spoilt, the only daughter of Rainsong, a proud elder of Nightclan and the baby sister of two of it's arguably most intimidating warriors. The prospect of settling down with a loving mate was not something that she ever expected to get, nevermind something she might want.
However, her relationship with Bonetail was different, his intelligence drew her to him and she knew that he would never do something as stupid as her father had to their own kits, that was unforgivable and yet she could deny that there was a part of her that was curious to see how Bonetail really felt, about her? about the kits they had created? about everything?
It was painful to see that even though she claimed to be his 'friend' she knew very little about him, however she knew more than most cats. Lilyfrost had seen him go through the death of his mother and she was there for him. Straightening herself out Lilyfrost allowed herself a brief moment of affection as she nuzzled Bonetail's side for a few seconds before pulling away.
" Yes, we will be fine" she promised, they would be okay, both her, Bonetail and the unborn kits that would one day rule the clan.
