Maplebrook " I have no idea how I am going to win, just that I'm not going to lose" The first dawn of Greenleaf was a welcome addition, a distraction to the recent outbreak of greencough that claimed many of the lives within the clan, it was a sad time with many warrior's losing mate's parents and even kits to the hated illness and so those who remained where forced to almost double their workload to keep up with the demand. Maplebrook was tired and greving the loss of her clanmates but that did not matter, she had to push foward, her apprentice needed her and she could not let the sweet cream coloured she-cat down.
Even though the outbreak she had pushed foward with training, teaching her all the ways to hunt and to scout the lands they called home. Today would be a different lesson, a lesson that Maplebrook was not so good at when she was an apprentice, so much so that she debated asking Skyfall if he would come and help teach the young she-cat what Maplebrook did not know. '
Maplebrook prided herself on doing her best in training her apprentice and while she could have invited Thornpaw along, he was a bit to much of a thorn in her paw for her to handle in her sleep deprived state. Entering the apprentice's den she quickly and silently moved to Fawnpaw's nest and gently nudged her with a paw. " Fawnpaw, its time to wake up, we have battle training today" she spoke, her kind voice still clear despite how she may look or feel. Maplebrook never looked disheveled, normally there was not a hair out of place but today, her fur looked a little tousled and her eyes were slightly puffy from tiredness.
" Do you mind if I invite Skyfall along? He is a very good teacher and it will be helpful to see the different fighting styles, each ca has their own style, no two cats will battle the exact same way" she stated, her first lecture of the day as she smiled at her prodigy with pride swirling in her gaze and affection tugging on her heart. She could not help but care for the energetic ball of fluff she had the privilege of mentoring, praying to Starclan that her lesson's stuck and would one day be passed on to Fawnpaw's own apprentices, even offspring if the female's relationship with Thornpaw was anything to go by.

Fawnpaw 7 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnpaw had been respectfully quiet and mindful of the warriors who had lost loved ones. When she was in the apprentices' den, however, she couldn't stop the energy from resurging through her limbs and funneling into her smile. Her siblings had beaten greencough! Finchpaw, Thornpaw, Owlpaw, even Ravenpaw had pulled through. There was no grief here (unless Ravenpaw was threatening murder with one of her looks again), no sickness. No sadness.
Just friendship, and the warmth that came with it.
So she slept peacefully, her paws twitching as she dreamed. Squirrels had quickly become her favorite thing to chase. Their fluffy tails reminded her of Thornpaw, and that association always made her put on an extra burst of speed just to make sure the squirrel didn't get away. She didn't always catch them, but she always got close, and that was progress, wasn't it?
Her dream was going well. She was just about to pounce on a squirrel - when a maple tree reached over and prodded her in the side. Wah? Fawnpaw stared, gawking as the knots on the tree (did they resemble a face) moved a little as it spoke. "Fawnpaw, its time to wake up, we have battle training today."
Another prod, and the dream, thankfully, dissolved into reality. Fawnpaw blearily looked up from her nest, having obviously been very deeply asleep just a few heartbeats before. Maple tree... Maplebrook! Fawnpaw suppressed a giggle, the light returning to her eyes as she realized what had happened. She must have heard Maplebrook's voice, recognizing it even while she slept, and that had somehow carried over into her dream.
Debating whether or not her mentor would find her dream as funny as she did, Fawnpaw was eagerly shaking the moss off her fur when Maplebrook spoke.
" Do you mind if I invite Skyfall along? He is a very good teacher and it will be helpful to see the different fighting styles, each ca has their own style, no two cats will battle the exact same way."
"I don't mind! I like Skyfall. It's so cool that his eyes are two different colors." How would she look with one blue eye and one green eye? Probably silly. She liked her green eyes. They reminded her of her mother's, and little things like that always felt... special, somehow. I wonder if my father had dark amber eyes like Aspenpaw's.
Before these thoughts could take up too much of her attention, she saw Thornpaw sleeping in his nest, and couldn't resist. With a mischievous little smile, Fawnpaw playfully batted one of his ear-tufts, then leaned in and whispered "The trees are talking to you, Thornpaw. They say 'leaf us alone, you bully!' You'd better go, the trees seem upset..." She let her voice trail off, adding a slightly 'mystical' quality to it so he wouldn't recognize it immediately.
Hoping his dreams ended up just as weird and funny as her own, Fawnpaw hastily exited the den. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family ❋ 498 Words ❋ @kahani BlooRey DVD Silver Justice ❋ Notes

Maplebrook The pretty tabby she cat could not help but smile when her apprentice stirred to life and then, teased her fellow apprentice Thornpaw about tree's being angry with him. Admittedly she was a little confused as to why Fawnpaw felt the need to annoy her fellow apprentice but made no move to stop her, if Maplebrook had her way Thornpaw would leave her apprentice alone for the duration of her tutorage. The male was sweet and often meant no harm to either of the she-cats but he was a distraction for Fawnpaw and while Maplebrook did like her apprentice, she could only handle the one ball of energy at a time. Both seemed to leave her feeling a little overloaded and she still mentally cursed Skyfall for her one time stint as a kitsitter for the pair.
"Alright Fawnpaw now that you have had your fun, let's go find Skyfall" she spoke brightly, winking at her smaller companion before she turned around and with an elegant flick of her tail began to exit the den. As soon as she got outside the tree her eyes flicked through the camp before they landed on the very tom she was searching for" Ah Skyfall, just who I was looking for, I was wondering if you would like to come and help Fawnpaw with her battle training?" she enquired, using the same tone he had when she was forced to kitsit her apprentice and Thornpaw, despite the fact that it turned out to be an enjoyable time, Skyfall didn't need to know that, less he may ask her again and Maplebrook had a reputation of being the perfect hunter and mentor to uphold, kitsitting was not really a part of her role, at least in her opinion.

SKYFALLWhen it crumbles, we will stand TALL and face it all together
The white warrior had recently returned from a hunting patrol, a mouse and a thrush hanging from his jaws until he deposited it on the freshkill pile. His paws thrummed, a pleasant soreness reverberating from them; not painful, but enough to serve as an indicator to himself that he had pulled his weight today. Add to this that it was perhaps the perfect Greenleaf day, with a bright sun and a cool breeze? Skyfall was feeling pretty good. His tail swished slowly behind him as mismatched eyes scoured the camp, searching out a particularly beautiful, pale furred she-cat.
A flicker of disappointment bloomed in his chest when he couldn't spot her, frowning softly to himself. She has an apprentice to train. He reminded himself, ears pivoting at the sound of two sets of approaching pawsteps. It was strange to not have an apprentice to train anymore; he'd gotten so used to doing things with Duskrose that, without training? He felt a little lost. A feminine voice calling his name drew his mismatched eyes toward Maplebrook and Fawnpaw as the mentor apprentice pair approached. He tipped his muzzle in greeting to each of them, offering a friendly (if not a little reserved) smile.
His left ear twitched as Maplebrook spoke, noting her tone. Despite being several seasons younger than he was, the way she posed her question leaned more towards requesting he do something, rather than asking if he would. Having had so much on his mind during the greencough epidemic, Skyfall didn't exactly recall with perfect clarity the kitsitting incident. So to him? Her tone was merely peculiar, though he chose to let it slide. Should it happen again, he might remind her to respect those older than she. Bringing that smile back to his features, he shifted to offer them each another dip of his head.
"It would be my honor to lend a paw, Maplebrook. Fawnpaw, I look forward to seeing your progress." Turning back to Maplebrook, he signaled with his tail. "Please, do lead the way." 65 Moons. TreeClan. Senior Warrior.Skyfall is here! //Fawn @kahani // ~320 words

Maplebrook A breif flicker of guilt appeared on Maplebrook's face when Skyfall's mismatched eyed seemed to show a little confusion as to why she was acting the way she was and the female relaxed her posture and dipped her head a little as both an apology and an act of respect to the seasoned warrior, who had no doubt been very busy during the greencough epidemic to remember the day he asked her to kit sit her own apprentice. " Thank you very much Skyfall, I think your expertise and different fighting style will help Fawnpaw discover her own" she nodded towards the senior warrior and then to her apprentice before she began to lead the way to her choosen training area after Skyfall was finished speaking. She did like the mismatched eyed tom and found him to be very helpful even when she had been an apprentice herself.
Upon arrival Maplebrook gestured with her tail for her apprentice to sit down while she explained a few things about fighting, Skyfall could do what he wanted, he was older than Maplebrook and thus did not have to listen to her. " Now Fawnpaw, fighting is a very important part of being a warriorr and being able to protect your clan and loved ones and while some may say fighting is based on strenght I disagree and sy that fighting requires as much tactical skill as hunting does, you still have to wait for the right time to strike and keep your balance. Finding your unique fighting style begins with accessment of your opponent, see if they have any weaknesses or something that you could use against them" Maplebrook instructed, looking at Skyfall periodically to see if she was saying the right thing, this was the way Maplebrook had learned and it had worked just fine for her but Skyfall could have a different view, hense why she had asked him along to begin with. #322, Fawn , BlooRey DVD

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANFawnpaw greeted the seasoned tom with a bright, inquisitive glance and a cheerful 'good morning, Skyfall', before she fell in step just behind her mentor. It wouldn't be kind to the senior warrior to begin badgering him with questions - besides, Fawnpaw wasn't sure what to ask him yet. The only thing she could think of, were silly curiosities that kits in the nursery would have; did you ever see Demon? Have you fought NightClan? What's it like to be in a battle?
Impressing Maplebrook wasn't a game, to Fawnpaw. Rather, it was a challenge - incentive to push herself a little more, make sure she answered clearly and with certainty. Fawnpaw was seldom wrong, but when she was, she would listen closely for a correction - and commit it to memory. Fawnpaw didn't want to be the best warrior in the Clan, she wasn't happy putting that much pressure on herself, but she still desired success. Success and admiration from her elders, who would realize how smart she was and keep the encouragement going.
Maybe it had to do with not having a father figure? If Bramblebrush was still alive, would he be proud of us? Her heart said yes, but the seeds of doubt were still finding soil and setting down roots.
Invited to sit, Fawnpaw neatly folded her haunches, sitting up straight and bright-eyed to give Maplebrook her complete focus. Skyfall had been distracting to her at first, but his presence was quiet when he wasn't speaking. "How do I recognize what's a weakness?" Fawnpaw studiously tried to think back to her play-fights with Amberpaw, Aspenpaw, Finchpaw and Thornpaw. Was there anything worth analyzing? Any weaknesses they had unexpectedly revealed to her?
If there were, Fawnpaw couldn't remember them. What are my own weaknesses? Fawnpaw felt uncomfortable not knowing, and even more uncomfortable under the watchful eyes of Skyfall and Maplebrook - who probably could tell just by looking at her. "Can you hide a weakness? Trick an opponent into thinking you don't have any?" Fawnpaw was not yet aware of it at the time, but the trick she referred to was very close to bluffing.

SKYFALLWhen it crumbles, we will stand TALL and face it all together
Maplebrook's reasoning behind desiring his presence for Fawnpaw's training was perfectly logical. It wasn't uncommon for mentors to request the help of other cats when training an apprentice; no two cats fought the same, and exposure to different styles was an excellent way to find out the style best suited to the apprentice. Nodding in acknowledgment to her gratitude, he fell into step behind the mentor apprentice pair easily. They arrived to Mapplebrook's destination rather quickly, and Skyfall settled down in the background to let the mentor apprentice pair interact. Lifting a paw to roll out a stiffness in his shoulder, the white senior warrior kept an ear trained on Maplebrook's explanation, curious to hear what she had to say.
Her words rang true, Skyfall agreeing with most, if not all of it. His head bobbed periodically, meeting her gaze with his mismatched one and offering her an encouraging smile whenever she looked his way. The only part he disagreed with was the notion that fighting was an important part of being a warrior. In his eyes, it was an unfortunate part of being a warrior. If he had the power to cease the fighting between Clans or against other enemies for the rest of his life? He'd do so.
Not that that would necessarily end the struggles of Clan life. There were still many ways a life could end without the threat of another being. His gaze darkened as his mind drifted to the recent loss of both his parents, Cloudpool and Blackwing. His siblings had made it through unscathed, but there remained an emptiness within him now that his parents' presences were no longer constants in his life. Dismissing the sorrowful thoughts with the flick of an ear, Skyfall latched on to Fawnpaw's questions as a way to ground himself.
Rising to his paws, the white warrior stepped forward, glancing at Maplebrook first. "If I may..." He rumbled, waiting for a sign of acknowledgment before continuing. "Yes, hiding weaknesses is possible, though first it requires you to know and understand your own, which can be difficult for some. Excellent question, Fawnpaw." He praised, his features slipping into a kind smile. "As for recognizing weakness... The best way to do so is to practice. Not all weaknesses are blatantly apparent, but you need not necessarily identify all of someone's weaknesses to find your advantage. It takes but one."
Stepping back, he sat down a few tail lengths away, glancing between the two of them once more. "Fawnpaw, perhaps Maplebrook can assist you in identifying something you might be able to use to your advantage against me." He offered, looking toward the mentor of the pair to ensure he had not overstepped. 65 Moons. TreeClan. Senior Warrior.^^ //Fawn @kahani // ~440 words

Maplebrook The young mentor could not help the small smile that flitted across her features at her apprentice's excited bombardment of questions on the poor unsuspecting senior warrior. As a result the female shoot him an apologetic glance but he did not seem to mind, instead accepting the eager apprentices questions on weaknesses with an explanation of his own. Maplebrook nodded approvingly throughout, to show her agreement and acceptance of the advice the seasoned tom was giving the youngest member of the trio.
" Skyfall is right Fawnpaw, weaknesses can only be properly accessed when you are aware of your own but what you are referring to is called bluffing, or giving a false impression. It's like pretending to have a particular weakness in one thing but really your actual weakness is something else, Cat's will play mind games to throw you off their real weakness so focus is very important" Maplebrook explained, cautious of being wrong as she glanced from her apprentice to the senior warrior who had taken time to come and help her teach the future warrior of the clan.
When Skyfall suggested that Maplebrook help Fawnpaw spot a weakness in himself she nodded in agreement, moving to stand beside her apprentice. " Normally it is good practice to have a strong defence, Stability is important, the best way is to stand firm, like this" Maplebrook centred her balance, her sharp craws digging into the drying out dirt to improve her stability. " Offence is all about agility and balance, keeping an eye out for moments to stike" she continued her explanation before looking at Skyfall and nodding to show him she was ready to get to the more practical part of her teaching.
" Now Fawnpaw, take a good look at Skyfall, most cat's will not make it easy so you will have to be on high alert, tell me what you think might be a weakness?" she spoke softly, enough for both cats to hear her but not as bold as her actual teaching, her nerves getting the best of her for a few seconds before she shook out her pelt and refocused, a small smile of apology was offered to both her companions. Maplebrook truely did not enjoy fighting, to her the best offence was a good defence, using the cat's own power against them, but how was she to teach that to her prodegy, this mentoring thing was a lot harder than Skyfall and even her own mentor had made it look. #418 Fawn , BlooRey DVD I have no idea what to put as Skyfall's weaknesses, Maplebrook is not that experienced in fighting.

Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLANThe possibility for success in such a daunting outcome increased, when Skyfall pointed out that they only needed to find one weakness in their opponent, not all. But what if the weakness we find, is the bluff? Fawnpaw nearly asked about that next, but she didn't want to get distracted, or delay her chance at examining Skyfall by earning another double-answer from the warriors.
Maplebrook's instructions cut in at the right time, and Fawnpaw blinked in comprehension, green eyes becoming refocused as the she-cat showed the right defensive stance. Fawnpaw mimicked it, finding the posture a bit strange at first - especially the sinking-her-claws-in part (how was she supposed to be swift and agile like this?) - but not difficult to work with. The pale apprentice glanced at Maplebrook for confirmation that she had the posture correct. "Like this?"
After a few minor readjustments, Fawnpaw's single shaded eyes quickly found the mismatched gaze of Skyfall. She looked right at him, as if a smile or a flick of the ear would give away the older, wiser tom's possible weaknesses. He's not going to blurt out the answer, you know. Fawnpaw flicked her tail, embarrassed to have expected so much. She wasn't even looking in the right place, was she?
Tearing her gaze away from Skyfall's, Fawnpaw slowly tilted her head, sidling first to the left, to get a better view of the tom's body. He's bigger and taller than Maplebrook. But is he faster? What if he can't climb trees like Feathercloud or Mousefeather? Well... Skyfall did have a feathery tail, maybe that helped with his balance?
Trying not to get frustrated, or overthink it, Fawnpaw had an internal debate with herself. Should she ask for a hint, or try to answer anyway? Was it better to give the wrong answer, and be corrected, or admit she didn't know? Fawnpaw looked to her mentor, jaws parted with a question hovering on the tip of her tongue. Then her ears pricked forward. "I don't know if you're slower than me or Maplebrook, but there's no way you're faster than both of us, right?"
They could attack him together! 'Attack' seemed like a harsh word for what was supposed to be a friendly spar. Fawnpaw took a few steps forward, a small quiver running the length of her body as if she were excited to put her theory into practice. Maybe I AM faster than he is... She was certainly smaller. With every paw step she took towards the white-furred warrior, Fawnpaw was aware of how she seemed almost... undersized by comparison. She hadn't inherited her mother's long legs, unfortunately. SKYFALLWhen it crumbles, we will stand TALL and face it all together
He waited patiently as Maplebrook took a moment to explain the basics of a fighting stance to her apprentice. He listened with mild interest, and even flexed his hind claws when the warrioress drew focus to them. With nothing to add to her spiel, the senior warrior remained attentively quiet, mismatched eyes drawn toward the young apprentice as focus returned to her. Lowering himself into an appropriate stance, his ears pivoted forward to catch what the warrior-to-be had to offer. The white warrior found himself nodding his head to Fawnpaw, acknowledging her words as she spoke them.
"If I had to bet my next meal, I'd vote in your favor for speed, Fawnpaw." He chuckled slightly, tail flicking in amusement. "Though I do not have Lionstar's impressive stature, I'm large enough to be slowed down in my movements. Sturdy, yes. But not necessarily agile on my paws. A fact Duskrose never hesitated to take advantage of in our training sessions." He recalled fondly, a soft rumbling purr greeting the air as brief memories flickering behind his eyes. Recentering himself and his focus, the white tom kept his muscles posed similarly to Maplebrook's previous explanation to her apprentice.
"However, you make an excellent observation. When possible, fighting in partners is always more favorable. There are very few cats quicker than two different cats, especially two familiar with fighting alongside one another." With a nod to Maplebrook, he fell silent once more, opening the air to whatever she might have to say. After all, Fawnpaw was her apprentice. 65 Moons. TreeClan. MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan Maplebrook was actually grateful when Skyfall took over, giving her apprentice the little bit of confirmation she needed and with a nod of understanding towards the seasoned warrior she lent down to whisper to her apprentice." You know his weakness , now what is your own, the trick to a good clean fight with no injury to you is to know your own weaknesses"
The older she cat lectured softly, allowing her tail to rest behind her before turning her bright gaze to meet Skyfall's once more. " Are you ready?" she asked softly, allowing enough time for her apprentice to adjust herself a little more so that she developed her own stance and fighting style, Maplebrook was a passifist, she did not exactly like violence and did not enjoy fighting but it was a necessary part of being a warrior and if she could get that credential with her skill than she was sure Fawnpaw would outshine her and make her proud. Fawnpaw 10 MOONS - SHE-CAT - TREECLAN" You know his weakness, now what is your own?"
With Maplebrook's question ringing through her mind, Fawnpaw slowly eased into a battle stance, finding it no longer felt so strange. Just keep practicing. You'll be able to show Thornpaw a cool move or two in no time! What is my weakness, though? It had made her flush with hope that Skyfall believed her to be fast; Fawnpaw wanted to be fast and agile, sure-footed and hard to catch. It was so gratifying to know that she might be able to achieve what she wanted.
I STILL don't know what I should give for an answer! Fawnpaw, feeling pressured, flicked her tail a little bit, the tip quivering with unspent energy. The answer came almost a second after, and her body stilled, excitement lighting up her eyes. That's my weakness. I don't know anything.
"My weakness is inexperience, right?" She mewed, stealing a glance at Maplebrook and then Skyfall, hoping one or both would confirm she was on the right path. "I don't know what I don't know, which could get me in trouble in a fight." Feeling more certain of herself, Fawnpaw's confidence gradually lifted. Which is why it's so important to pay attention. I HAVE to get this right.

SKYFALLWhen it crumbles, we will stand TALL and face it all together
His long-furred, white tail danced from side to side behind him, jaws twitching in yet another smile. Fawnpaw had dropped into her battle stance moments before offering her thoughts on just what her weakness could be, and the senior warrior was pleased with both. Maplebrook is doing well. He thought, reminding himself for the thousandth time that Fawnpaw was not his apprentice. The last thing he wanted to do was tread on any cat's toes; it just felt strange to the white tom, not having an apprentice under his care. You're getting old, Skyfall, if you can't think of anything else to do but train the Clan's youth.
"Precisely, Fawnpaw. You do not have the experience that others may have, you do not understand yourself quite as others may understand themselves. The good news, however, is this weakness is the easiest to overcome. You will find other weaknesses once you overcome your inexperience, but remember that weaknesses are not bad. They are a fact of life, something you must come to accept. If you can accept it, you can begin to teach yourself ways of pushing forward despite it. And that is how you conquer your weaknesses. Acceptance, and perseverance."
It was his turn to drop into a battle stance, one that had been trained and perfected in excess of six times Fawnpaw's age. The stance was no less familiar to him than the weight of his fur on his shoulders, and it showed in the fractional adjustments he made to his shoulders and tail upon falling into it. Mismatched eyes flicked between the two playfully, the right side of his mouth pulling into a grin as he shifted his tail to beckon to them. "She-cats first. Show me what you've got, Fawnpaw." Figuring they would likely attack as a team, he was careful not to let Maplebrook slip out of his sight. 65 Moons. TreeClan. Senior Warrior.Ack sorry for the wait @_@ //Fawn @kahani // ~310 words

MAplebROOk 23 Moons || She-Cat || TreeClan The grey warrior was very impressed when her apprentice identified her weakness as inexperience, it had taken Maplebrook a few tries when she had been an apprentice, though her forte lay more in hunting and patrols than it did at battle. Skyfall confirmed this and settled into a fighting stance that was much more graceful and perfected than her own, though the tom had three times the experience that she did and more than her and Fawnpaw combined, however that did not mean he would win, Maplebrook was still a determined she cat when it came to proving herself a good mentor and warrior and while Skyfall's eyes flicked between her and Fawnpaw the older she cat whispered in her apprentices ear.
" He cannot fight us both at once, you take one side, I'll take the other, and remember to aim at vital points, like his face and neck, getting him on his back will be best way to defeat him I think.. but do keep in mind that this is only training so don't hurt him" she added, fully aware that sometimes young cat's got overexcited and nipped a little to hard at battle training and she respected Skyfall to much to allow harm to occur to him in any way. Poising herself in an attack position Maplebrook allowed her apprentice to take the lead, after all this was her battle training and she would not always have another around to guide her, like she and Skyfall.
