Lotuswhisker42 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ The taste of fish made her nauseous. It wasn't like Lotuswhisker to turn her nose up at the fresh kill pile, but even the normally appealing scent of a minnow was enough to send the bile clamboring up the back of her throat. This isn't a sign of greencough, she understood that much of the sickness that had previously plagued her. So what is it? Just a stomach bug?
Lotuswhisker had felt nauseous for two days. On the first day, the brown warrioress had dismissed it as a lingering symptom of greencough, and done her best to eat and drink as much as her body needed to heal itself. The eating part turned out harder than she'd expected, given that her appetite had all but vanished when it came to fish.
Not wanting to worry Gullswoop, Lotuswhisker had kept quiet about it.
Hunger pangs had struck late into the night, and Lotuswhisker had tiptoed out of the warriors' den to eat a quick meal of a thin silver-scaled bleak. She hadn't found the taste too agreeable, which was a surprise considering she'd loved them as a kit.
On the second day, Lotuswhisker had put off going to the medicine cat's den. She was wary of a confrontation with Swanfeather; what if the she-cat had a message for her from Shadefrost? The very real possibility that Shadefrost was furious at her daughters for joining the Loyalists at the end, had kept the brown warrioress hovering on the fringes of the healers' den.
Enough is enough. I'm still nauseous, and if Swanfeather has a message for me, then it won't go away just because I refuse to hear it. Lotuswhisker wished Gullswoop a safe journey, watching him depart with the morning patrol, and it was only once he was out of sight and out of earshot that her small paws carried her to Swanfeather's den.
"Excuse me, Swanfeather. If I'm not disturbing you, I'd like to get something for nausea. I haven't been feeling myself lately." It was strange, seeing her again. Lotuswhisker brushed aside the unhappy memories of the wooded cove, and of the last time she'd had a moment alone with Swanfeather.

[smear:ffffff]Swanfeather[/smear:343B4F] I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high And life worth living 72 Moons || Exiled Medicine Cat of RainClan || She-Cat
Swanfeather had adjusted back into life as RainClan's medicine cat rather quickly. However, she wasn't welcomed back fully. Bluewave served as her ever present guard outside the den. Ottersplash was recovering slowly but something about the dazed look he often gave her concerned her. It was Stormstar's idea to have Ottersplash take more time to recover, let him rest. Swanfeather was worried that the fever did a lot more then drain his energy.
Sorting herbs within the den, Swanfeather had realized just how little herbs they had left. It would be smart to start stockpiling again. The outbreak had nearly wiped out all they saved. Newleaf was meant to be a time for recovery from leafbare not spent begging StarClan for help. Not that they heard her anymore. Pushing the thought from her, Swanfeather turned at the sound of Lotuswhisker's voice.
Her blue eyes settled on the warrior with a certain reserved coldness. Swanfeather was a little indifferent to the she-cat now that the civil war was over. Swanfeather didn't feel betrayed that Lotuswhisker had left early to return to the camp. Swanfeather would have done the same, but hindsight is 20/20.
Swanfeather would have went back long before clanmates were killed. All she wanted was for Timberwing to step down and a RainClan born cat to take her place. It seemed that was too much to ask for. The thought lingered for a moment longer before Swanfeather focused all her attention on Lotuswhisker.
She heard the she-cats complaint but didn't make a move to find any sort of herbs. She had seen the signs countless times, it was easy to see.
"Do you have a mate Lotuswhisker?"Swanfeather asked, seeming to ignore the request for herbs.

Lotuswhisker39 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ That's the first thing she says to me? Though she remained polite, the suggestion of a temper flared in her sea-green eyes. Lotuswhisker kept her tail from lashing. "Yes. It's Gullswoop." It was NEVER going to be Salmonclaw. Protective of the tall silver warrior she loved, Lotuswhisker prepared to see judgment pass in Swanfeather's eyes, and she was prepared to tell the medicine cat exactly what she thought of her prejudice.
Gullswoop was a loving mate, a strong, loyal warrior, and more than all those things - a true friend. It was more than she had ever thought to ask for or hoped to receive. She woke up in their nest each morning, and thanked StarClan that everything had worked out alright in the end. Not even greencough could rip that happiness away from her.
Swanfeather wasn't even looking. Lotuswhisker stayed still, choosing to sit down as if that might convince the medicine cat that she deserved a more serious medical examination. If she's even going to bother. Lotuswhisker hadn't considered until now that the healer's herb stores were very low, from a combination of fighting off the sickness and any lingering side-effects throughout the Clan.
Lotuswhisker almost regretted being so snippy. Swanfeather had her own problems. Being back in RainClan must have been strange and uncomfortable. Even more so, because it used to be home. With a cleansing breath, Lotuswhisker forced herself to exercise a little more patience.
"I've been nauseous for two days. It's worse every time I try to eat." Now will you take me seriously?

[smear:ffffff]Swanfeather[/smear:343B4F] I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high And life worth living 72 Moons || Exiled Medicine Cat of RainClan || She-Cat Hear earlier question hadn't meant to be taken rudely, considering the time she had spent alone, Swanfeather could use a refresher course on her nest-side manner. She was simply asking as a way to congratulate Lotuswhisker, but clearly that didn't work.
Swanfeather tilted her ears toward Lotuswhisker answers. Gullswoop? Her first reaction was that he wasn't ideal cat to sire any future RainClan kits considering his blood. Swanfeather was attempting to make an effort to let go. Falconleap had made the choice to leave behind her life in StoneClan for her mate in RainClan. Even if it was small, it meant something to Swanfeather. Flashes of little memories of a young Gullkit clinging to his mother's lifeless body threatened to overwhelm her. Looking toward the dark colored she-cat for a split second, Swanfeather promised to tend to Lotuswhisker with the utmost care.
Flicking her tail back and forth Swanfeather moved toward her stores and began to root around. She frowned once she realized that all their borage stores had been used up by trying to bring fevers down. Her tail flicked in annoyance, yet another herb she needed to find. Luckily it was easy to spot and wouldn't take long to grow. She'd just need to be mindful of where she got it from. The ideal location would be near the NightClan border but she hated that place. She pondered for a moment, considering that the willow stream might have it.
Realizing she had ignored Lotuswhisker for some time as she tried to make a plan, Swanfeather turned her full attention back to the she-cat.
"Yes, the nausea. I was going to suggest parsley but it wouldn't be healthy for the kits. I'll need to find some feverfew but that means I need to take a trip to the riverbank, which means I need to get Stormstar's permission to leave camp." She explained simply to Lotuswhisker, speaking to the she-cat as if she already knew she was pregnant and was simply dealing with a bout of morning sickness as some she-cats do in the early weeks.

Lotuswhisker39 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ "Yes, the nausea. I was going to suggest parsley but it wouldn't be healthy for the kits."
Lotuswhisker went very still, one paw left in a raised position, her ears fixed as pointedly forward as they could get. "Kits?" She mewed, feeling at once like the she-cat she had been before the civil war. Hopeful and eager to become a mother; those same sensations came rushing back, and Lotuswhisker found herself purring harder than she ever had before.
Swanfeather's commentary about feverfew were left ignored. Not on purpose, rather, by the brown-furred warrioress's ears no longer tuning in to a word she had said past 'kits'. Gullswoop and I are having kits. She felt dazed, but wonderfully so.
Her reservations towards Swanfeather were still in place, but Lotuswhisker made an effort to dip her head graciously to the medicine cat. "No need. I will eat, to make sure my kits grow up big and healthy. Please use those herbs on someone else." My kits. Our kits.
Gullswoop. She should find him immediately. Was it selfish to interrupt an entire patrol just to fetch her mate and share in the good news? A little. I'll wait. He'll be back soon enough. I have reed beds to make. Lotuswhisker's heart swelled with love and giddy anticipation for her unborn litter. She had to tell someone.
Willowbreeze was the first cat that came to mind. Setting off at once to find her sister, the Lotuswhisker that left the medicine cat's den was not the same one that entered it a short while ago; there was a lightness to her step and a perkiness to her overall features that earned her a few curious looks from her Clanmates. But Lotuswhisker smiled, keeping her secret close to her heart, with the exception of two cats in particular.
She wanted to bask in the good news with Willowbreeze and Gullswoop for at least a day, before they told the rest of his family. I wonder what Crowblaze will say? The dark tabby warrior seemed indifferent to her at best, and unimpressed with her at worst. No doubt because of her connection to Shadefrost. Lotuswhisker wanted to point out that it's that kind of thinking that gets us into this mess in the first place, but Lotuswhisker didn't need to stick her paw in the fire to know what would happen next.
Drawn like a moth to moonlight, Lotuswhisker found her sister's pale form within the warriors' den. Stifling a loud purr, Lotuswhisker gently woke her. "Wake up, Willow. Please come with me, I want to talk with you." I can't wait to tell you. Would she be happy for her? Willowbreeze knew Gullswoop, of course, but she hadn't really... gotten her sister's opinion on the tall silver tabby.

39 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. The reaction she got from Lotuswhisker was not the one she expected. When she spoke the warning about parsley, she hadn't realized that the young expectant queen didn't know she was, well, expecting. Her hard gaze softened slightly, to be young and in love was an old memory. To be expecting kits was a dream that Swanfeather had given up on many moons ago, but that didn't stop her from taking in some of Lotuswhisker's happiness. Even if her face didn't show it. The decline of the herbs had Swanfeather nodding slightly. It would be healthier in the long run to avoid any intake of herbs until right before the kitting. The lives growing within her were fragile, herbs might hinder their growth.
Just as Lotuswhisker left, Swanfeather told her that she'd need to eat more then usual to keep up with the growing bundles. Turning back to her work, the she-cat focused on making a mental list.
~
Willowbreeze, happily curled up in her nest the she-cat was determined to sleep and recover. The dawn patrol had been too early considering she was up late the night before. She just wanted to sleep, but the words coming from Lotuswhisker prompted the she-cat to sit up. Using a paw to wash over her face, the timid she-cat stared at her sister for a few moments. There was excitment glowing within her, something good must have happened. Feeding off her sister's excitement, Willowbreeze nodded as she brushed past her sister to leave the den.
"Where would you like to go?" She asked, flicking her tail as her paws lead her toward the camp entrance.

Lotuswhisker39 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ "Just near the river," Lotuswhisker replied, letting her pelt brush against her sister's. "We don't need to go far, though it wouldn't hurt to fish before we return." It was far too soon to move into the nursery next to Lilystream and Echoshade, but that didn't stop the flutter of excitement in her heart, like a bird eager to take off. "Do you remember me telling you that Gullswoop and I are mates now?" StarClan, that hadn't been that long ago at all, and yet Lotuswhisker didn't feel like they were rushing.
They were right on course. These kits were going to be born in greenleaf. No sickness. No snow. No icy winds to press against their little feather-soft pelts. As long as there wasn't a drought, Lotuswhisker felt confident of the time. And, thank StarClan, the war is over. It had been for a while, but it seemed like the last few embers of those old, angry fires of division and prejudice had finally died down to nothing.
"I've just been to Swanfeather," normally her tone would've been a little cold when speaking of the medicine cat turned traitor, turned medicine cat again. But this was different. It wasn't about Swanfeather, ultimately. Swanfeather had simply been the bearer of good news. Lotuswhisker's eyes gleamed, and the words felt as sweet as honey on her tongue. "Gullswoop and I are going to have kits. That's why I've been feeling nauseous for two days."
She hadn't really voiced that complaint aloud, but perhaps Willowbreeze had noticed her sudden and unexpected aversion to food, these past couple of sunrises. If not, it hardly mattered. So long as her sister could share in this joyous moment with her, Lotuswhisker was happy.

39 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. Willowbreeze nodded at her sister's suggestion for the river. Directing her paws toward it, the timid she-cat kept their pace slow. Still waking up. As the two got closer to the river, Willowbreeze heard her sister's question and looked back at her. She didn't offer a reply but simply nodded. Even if Lotuswhisker hadn't told her they were mates, it would only be a matter of time.
The two of them seemed to be written in the stars. Gullswoop always fawned over Lotuswhisker, not to anyone's surprise. She was prettier. Willowbreeze was happy for her sister. Glad that she found a mate that didn't care about what happened between their rival factions. Offering her a sister a relaxed smile, Willowbreeze had a feeling that there was more to Lotuswhisker's excitement.
Waiting for Lotuswhisker to tell her more, her sister brought up Swanfeather. Willowbreeze's eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of the medicine cat turned traitor then back again. Even if they needed the she-cat, Willowbreeze wasn't excited to have her around. Still a little confused by Lotuswhisker was telling her about Swanfeather, all of that went away as she uttered those special words.
Kits! Nieces or nephews maybe both!
Willowbreeze's eyes went wide as a loud purr escaped her. There was a flicker of jealousy but Willowbreeze quickly pushed it down. No time for that. Instead she moved to nuzzle her sister's cheek, her purr loud and rumbling. "I am so happy for you both! I can't wait to meet them! Have you thought of names? Have you told him? You have to tell him soon I'm sure he is worried about you," Willowbreeze' words were rapid fire made worse by her excitement at her growing family and her sister's happiness. A rare side to Willowbreeze was shown.

Lotuswhisker39 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ Lotuswhisker pressed her nose into her sister's fur, the happiness evident in her eyes and the shape of her muzzle - as if she couldn't stop smiling, not for the world. "I'll tell him as soon as he gets back from the patrol. I'm sorry for waking you so early -" Lotuswhisker twined her tail with Willowbreeze's. "-I wanted you to be the first to know."
Anyone looking at them now might have been confused as to who was the shy one and who was outgoing. Lotuswhisker's happiness was hardly subdued, but it was clear that the surprise had yet to wear off. It would take a few more days before she descended from the clouds; her thoughts were swimming strongly towards the future, taking her imagination along for the ride. What will they look like? That far-away comment she'd made about Gullswoop's kits having no issues swimming, with how long their legs were going to be, now seemed especially funny to her.
I guess we'll see if there's some truth to that joke after all.
With a sigh of pure contentment, Lotuswhisker tucked her head against her flank, smoothing down the fur there as if she could make her kits grow faster with a few licks. "I wish I knew how many, then I'd know how many names to consider. I hope it's more than two." The brown she-cat looked at Willowbreeze, her gaze softening. "To... make up for some of the family we've lost." Their uncle Sandfalcon had died. While they weren't close, it was still one less cat that was her kin; Shadefrost was gone. All that remained of Lotuswhisker's and Willowbreeze's blood relatives was their aunt Minkflower, and each other.
But not any more. These kits will have my blood, and Gullswoop's. And they would be pure RainClan, because RainClan was not about who inherited what. RainClan was about a sense of loyalty and community. Gullswoop fit her modified definition perfectly. It was with incredible pride and love that she thought of her mate, happy that they had found each other.

39 Moons. RainClan. Warrior. Willowbreeze let a purr out a loud purr as Lotuswhisker talked about telling Gullswoop upon his return home from a patrol. Willowbreeze was a little jealous, she always imagined the two of the them being queens together, but that didn't seem to be the case. Lotuswhisker was moving on without her, leaving Willowbreeze behind.
However, Willowbreeze wasn't going to dwell on it. Instead, she was going to embrace her sister's happiness as her own and work toward letting go of her jealousy. The little bundles growing within her sister would need all sorts of love, not tension because their aunt wanted her own kits.
The mention of names and the family they lost, had Willowbreeze looking down at her paws. They had lost a few family members, but in truth, Willowbreeze wasn't upset at their mother's exile. Her hatred would have only hurt the little kits.
"Promise not to name any of them after mom...maybe name them to honor Gullswoop's family. Bird names are cute and I'm sure he'd be really happy," Willowbreeze suggested with a slightly uneasy smile.

Lotuswhisker39 Moons, She-Cat, RainClan Warrior ------ Lotuswhisker shook her head. "No, I won't name one after mother... How about Falconkit? For Gullswoop's mother, and for our uncle." It was a name that would honor both sides of their family. Again, they had never been close with their mother's brother, but he had always been indifferent towards their mixed blood parentage, when the truth finally came out.
Unwilling to think poorly of a cat that had just died, Lotuswhisker gave him the benefit of the doubt that he did not have Shadefrost's prejudices and grudges. "Maybe you'll be able to mentor one of my kits when they're older?" Lotuswhisker purred. She would like that. Besides, having her own apprentice might give Willowbreeze the confidence boost she knew her sister needed.
She wouldn't call her sister meek, but Willowbreeze could certainly keep to herself if she wanted to. When's the last time we just walked like this? Lotuswhisker felt a sharp prickle of guilt in her heart, so sorry to have fallen out of touch with her littermate. They had to be a team. Her life had just been so busy these past few days... And, admittedly, Gullswoop had taken up so much of her attention (not that she minded).
"Let's go talk for a while, we can think of some names together - and you can tell me what you've been up to lately." With an affectionate nuzzle to her sister's cheek, Lotuswhisker smiled, appreciative of all the blessings in her life. She was lucky to have a sister as genuinely good-hearted as Willowbreeze.
