Frozenrain67 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanThe rain was unrelenting. What had begun as a quiet drizzle in the early moments of dawn, had unfurled into torrential downpour. Most of the Clan was inside their rocky shelters, except for the unlucky few returning from a patrol or a solo hunting excursion.
Frozenrain was in the latter category, and with two mice swinging from her jaws, she skirted what was going to be a large puddle forming near the base of the rock pile and ducked into her mate's den. At once, she felt safer. Drier. Gently shaking out her cream-colored coat, the warrioress laid the mice down, greeting Hawkstar with a sweet touch of her nose against his, whiskers twitching with a smile. "Days like these, I miss Herondive and Vipertail being kits. We used to curl up in here as a family whenever it started to rain. Remember?" With baby blue eyes softening, she exhaled a nostalgic sigh, the mice forgotten in favor of fond memories.
She did miss them. She had made peace with her age, and the reality that she had already had her last litter of kits, but Frozenrain could not help herself from wanting to relive the past. Frozenrain knew the value of her children, knew how much they enriched her life and Hawkstar's; what mother wouldn't want a chance to do it all over again? Ah, but that time had come and gone...
They were in their golden years, she and him. With any luck and StarClan's blessing, they would be grandparents by this time next new-leaf.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Large sand colored paws paced the edges of the rock den, ears trained on the rain as it pelted a ceaseless tattoo against the cavern walls. He was alone, his mate out on a patrol she'd been assigned earlier that day. Though Hawkstar knew full-well Frozenrain could handle just about any challenge she might face, the StoneClan figurehead couldn't help but worry for her. Even if said challenge was something as simple as a particularly stubborn rainfall. Forcing himself to halt at the sound of approaching pawsteps, the StoneClan leader turned hopeful eyes to the mouth of the cavern and nearly held his breath.
A familiar white and gray pelt pushed in from the outside world, comforting blue eyes locking onto his. Immediately bounding forward, the large tom met his mate halfway, tapping his nose affectionately against hers in greeting before almost immediately setting to work on drying her, tongue rasping over the top of her head as he fussed. One sandy ear was trained on his mate, listening carefully to her words. His rhythmic grooming halted briefly, a fond smile spreading over his features as a chuckle rumbled low in his throat. "I do remember. Our den had never felt so... Comfortable." He remarked.
Stooping to pick up the mice she'd brought them, he guided her gently toward their nest with his tail. Leaving her prey on the outskirts of the bedding, but close enough to reach when they were ready for them, Hawkstar let Frozenrain step in first before joining her. "Do you remember their first rainfall? It was so heavy that Herondive was convinced someone was outside trying to get in." His tail tip swished contently over the bedding, pale amber eyes watching Frozenrain with unabashed admiration. "She leapt through the entrance with a challenging squeak, only to find herself immediately drenched to the bone."
He purred in amusement, briefly nuzzling her beneath the chin before continuing where he'd left off. His tongue passed over the fur of her shoulder, picking up an easy rhythm as he groomed her. leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain67 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanFrozenrain laughed, a beautiful, peaceful peel of laughter at the sweet memories swirling before them. She could picture her daughter as a kit, thin gingery tail fluffed up in alarm at the downpour - before the crashing water inevitably turned her tail skinny as a worm's, and both their kits hurried back into the safety and warmth of the nest. "Our brave little daughter."
Those memories - along with getting to know Hawkstar for the first time - were more precious to her than all the prey in the forest. Purring, Hawkstar's affections were returned with gentle ministrations, Frozenrain grooming him as he groomed her. The big tom's scent and warmth of his presence were so soothing, if it weren't for a mother's curiosity over how their kits were doing, Frozenrain very well could have dozed off.
Frozenrain licked Hawkstar's ear, speaking softly. "Have you spoken to Vipertail or Herondive, lately? If the weather ever lets up, we should all go for a family walk." They all had their roles to play (Hawkstar especially), but for Frozenrain, it was especially important that they make time for each other. It was how relationships were sustained. Rather than drift apart, Frozenrain was determined to pull them all together, to remind their kits that they would be here for them whether they needed a calm word of advice or just a listening ear.
They were her whole world, next to StoneClan. Frozenrain wouldn't pretend her heart wasn't feeling the distance, after their talks had dwindled down to almost nothing.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains He purred his own laughter, pale eyes drifting to his mate's gaze as the warrioress spoke. "Brave indeed. I was convinced for moons she would take on the whole valley one day, if only because Vipertail asked her to." The two had been close growing up, Herondive fiercely protective of her brother. She'd been a pawful, which was exactly why Hawkstar had assigned Eagletalon as her mentor. Not only did he trust Eagletalon's mentoring capabilities, he trusted Eagletalon would be able to keep up with Herondive's never ceasing enthusiasm. His brother in all but blood had done him proud.
With a gentle shake of his muzzle, the StoneClan leader looked sorrowfully guilty. "Not more than a passing conversation between patrols, I regret. Vipertail always seems to be heading off somewhere with someone; he's become quite the social cat, hasn't he?" He smiled fondly, thinking back on his black furred son and how he'd developed a love for life and company. The smile fell away slightly, sand-brown ears tipping back a fraction. "It is Herondive I worry most about." He admitted, his voice quiet. Hawkstar had never wanted to be the type of parent who spent too much time meddling in his kits' lives.
Nor did he want to be the type to meddle too little either.
A frown settled up his features, pale eyes lifting to his mate's crystalline blue ones. "Eagletalon mentioned to me a few times in the later half of her training that she'd been growing distant. And I see it too. She seems... Better now that Honeynose has been named a warrior and sleeps in the warriors den; I hope the improvement will continue when Hazelpaw joins them. But I still worry for her. I fear she has placed the worries of StoneClan as a whole upon her shoulders to bear."
His sandy tail flicked thoughtfully amongst the bedding, a heavy sigh escaping him. "I fear I've waited too long in StoneClan's retaliation of LightningClan's claim of the Sun Stones. I think it is affecting some of the Clan members, Herondive included." He hesitated momentarily before continuing. "I apologize for bringing Clan matters to our nest, but... It is at times like these where I seek your thoughts on the matters at paw."

Frozenrain67 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClan"Like father like daughter," Frozenrain purred. Hawkstar's fears about Herondive were not unfounded; their daughter had gotten distant, the warrioress troubled by the harsh realities of Clan life. Fortunately, Herondive had something Hawkstar had as well; friends to keep them from stewing in their own heads for too long.
We'll have to have a bit of mother-daughter time, her and I. Quietly tucking those plans away, some of the warmth of nostalgia and motherhood began to subside a little - cooled by the change in topic. It was a conversation they needed to have, and Frozenrain, her coat fluffing out as it lost the last of it's dampness, moved closer. It was her turn to gently nuzzle the pale warrior under the jaw; speaking from the heart, Frozenrain opened an honest dialog between them. "You know how I feel about picking fights with LightningClan." A tremor of unease disrupted the steady beat of her heart, but Frozenrain pushed through it. "However, I think you're right, Hawkstar. Losing Sun Stones is affecting the Clan's spirits. We may be instigating just another game of keep away, when we reclaim what's rightfully ours, but we have little choice."
The Sun Stones was theirs. If they had to increase patrols after they'd reclaimed it to ensure Firestar didn't snatch it out from under their paws like last time, so be it. Worry passed through the matriarch's eyes like a shooting star, and she sighed into her mate's fur. "LightningClan's ideas of honor and mercy have slipped in recent moons. I don't trust them not to kill some of our warriors in battle, Hawkstar. The Code means so little to them anymore."
And what if those warriors were Herondive or Vipertail? What if the next cat that fell to LightningClan's vicious, immorality was her own kit? Frozenrain's chest tightened, constricting as the powerful sensation of fear and premature grief threatened to choke her. They had to believe in the Code, even if others didn't. It had guided them their own lives; even if no one else abided by it, StoneClan would stand proud and noble and just in the face of adversary.
It's what made them warriors, not a band of rogues.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains The air rushed from his lungs in another sigh, pale amber eyes closing as he settled against her touch. "You know that if I could have it any other way... I would forgo the confrontation with LightningClan completely." He replied, his claws flexing into the material of the nest as he stretched slightly. "You are unfortunately right concerning their slip in honor and mercy... I fear it is no longer Emberstar's LightningClan." He fell silent a moment, thoughtfulness slipping over his features. The coming battle with LightningClan had weighed heavy on his mind for moons, since the very Gathering the Sun Stones had been taken from StoneClan in the first place.
"Yet, despite my reservations... We cannot let it go unchallenged. LightningClan thinks they can walk all over StoneClan ever since the battle with StormClan. We must show them that it will not be tolerated, that we are strong. Even so..." Hesitation littered his tone, his mind churning behind his amber gaze. "Even so, I plan to wait for the height of Newleaf, or the beginning of Greenleaf. It is true that we give LightningClan time to recover that way, but it also gives StoneClan time to heal. Leafbare was unkind. A battle is wasted effort if our warriors are not at their strongest."
There was certainty behind his voice now, his muzzle tipping slightly in a nod. "Wolfclaw and Eagletalon have been ensuring the Clan's training remains on task. I'll ask they continue, to keep our warriors in peak condition. Come Greenleaf, we will have the Sun Stones back." Leaning forward to nuzzle Frozenrain, he purred softly. "Thank you, Frozenrain." A teasing edge slipped into his words. "You continue to be my light at the end of the tunnel. I cannot begin to express the way you make me feel, though... I suppose I could begin with..."
Leaning forward to rasp his tongue over her ear, he murmured against her fur. "I love you." leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain67 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanHawkstar was both wise, patient and romantic. So many other good qualities surrounded this tom, it was so easy to overlook his faults. Not that Frozenrain found any (and if she did, she no longer saw them as faults, just distinctive parts of her mate's personality). With a soothing purr and a loving gaze, she leaned against him, sheltered in his short tan fur. "Sometimes the simplest words carry the deepest meaning." Frozenrain's signature blue eyes found him, her features softened by a smile. "I love you."
Her relationship with her mate was one of the highlights of her life. It made everything so much more worthwhile, to know that they would stay side by side, even in StarClan. They had raised a beautiful family together, and a strong, noble Clan. There was hardship, yes, but as much joy as there had ever been sorrow. "You have been an outstanding leader of StoneClan, Hawkstar." Frozenrain nuzzled her cheek against his, tail twining. "A great father, too. To everyone that's ever needed you to be." She didn't just mean Vipertail and Herondive.
There were so many others in StoneClan that depended on him, Hawkstar often had to act in the role of father figure to many of the Clan's youngest. Young Sandpaw, for one thing, and she could think of plenty of cats who had once sought her mate's advice over the moons.
He was as much a beacon of strength as he was a bastion of knowledge.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains As her tail wove itself with his, he leaned against her if only to further solidify her presence at his side. Words failed him once more as she spoke, Hawkstar only finding the right brain path to smile at her. It was fascinating to him, how she could still make him feel giddy as a young warrior with a new crush, despite all the time they'd spent as mates. With his initial concerns surrounding the impending clash with LightningClan momentarily eased by the beautiful she-cat before him, he returned to his task of grooming her fur, ridding the thick fur from any remaining moisture.
His mind wandered as he fell into a rhythm, to the Clan he'd led for so many moons. He thought of all those who'd stood by him for so long, from Frozenrain and Eagletalon, to Wolfclaw and Hailstrike. He'd been fortunate enough to always be backed by strong, respected warriors, fortunate enough to have found a she-cat who's heart was as beautiful as her features. And together, they'd raised two kits into proud warriors of StoneClan. Watching them grow had been even more rewarding than he had imagined it would be. And yet, as he thought about them now... His thoughts couldn't help but drift to the lives they had not been had the opportunity to nurture.
His pattern faltered, muzzle tipping down slightly as his gaze fell to his large paws next to hers. He could feel the same heaviness in the pit of his stomach, the one that had sunk within in him when she'd first unintentionally revealed the existence of a miscarried litter. Pale amber eyes slowly returned to her features, his voice barely audible as he asked a question that had plagued him since he'd first learnt of their failed existence. "What... Would you have named them?"
Realizing that the question had come out of nowhere, and worried she might not understand what he was asking, the StoneClan figurehead added some clarification. "The... Our kits." leader of stoneclan and may you have the courage to scale their summits background image | harley king | Fawn | table by phoenix

Frozenrain67 Moons // Warrior-Queen // StoneClanHer mate's question struck a chord so painful, she couldn't answer him. Not for a little while. When she finally found the strength to speak, it was in the softest voice imagineable, as if merely speaking of the kits she had lost made it hard to give her words any serious substance. As if raising her volume might cause her to lose them all over again. "Dawnkit," Frozenrain looked at him. "After your mother. Frostkit, after mine, and... Breezekit." For his mentor, Breezeflight.
The StoneClan matriarch knew there had been three kits the same way she knew her mother was in StarClan. She felt it, and therefore believed it to be so. Those three kits appeared in her dreams from time to time; small, pale-furred younglings that smiled and knew nothing of the hardships StoneClan had endured.
"Oh Hawkstar..." A cream muzzle rested against the short sandy fur of the tom's neck, Frozenrain drinking in his scent, hoping to obtain even a small bit of solace. Yet her soul still ached, still mourned those lost little lives. Vipertail and Herondive's birth had healed her from that suffering - but there would always be a part of the she-cat that knew what had been lost.
What StormClan had really taken from her.

Hawkstar may your dreams be larger than mountains Pale ears tilted backward as he waited, his heart heavy with the melancholy he could see on his mate's features. For a moment, he considered rescinding his question; it still hurt her to think about the lives that had been lost, that was evident. But... A part of him wanted so badly to know. A few moons ago, he'd not even been aware there had been a potential litter before Herondive and Vipertail. StarClan above, he loved his children, but to know he could have been a father to more kits? It was.. Heartbreaking, like he was missing a piece of himself now.
His breath caught in his throat slightly as she finally worked up the courage to reveal their names. Each one was beautiful in its own way, with deep-rooted meaning. His jaws parted as though he were going to speak, but the air was met with nothing but stillness. He closed his eyes as she pushed into his fur, pulling her closer to him as though afraid she would disappear like the three lives she'd carried previously. "Dawnkit... Frostkit... And Breezekit..." He murmured into her fur, as though testing out the names for himself.
Somewhere in his heart, muddled in with the grief, he felt a sense of right. Yes... Dawnkit, Frostkit and Breezekit. Mother, Breezeflight... Take care of them for us. Show them what it mean to be a StoneClan cat, because we weren't able to. Breathing in the familiar scent of his mate, he found his eyes drifting to the ceiling of the cave, a temporary replacement for the sky he knew to be just beyond the stones. StarClan, though I know you have your reasons... Please, take no more from her. She could not bare it...
He only hoped, for her sake, that this overpowering grief would subside somewhat. In the StoneClan leader's eyes, Frozenrain was the most beautiful she-cat in the valley. To see her in so much pain when she deserved a world of happiness in her paws... It was almost more than he could bare.
