Valiantstride and woken early just as the sun started to rise. He noticed quickly that clouds were forming and starting to darken. A storm was coming and the golden tabby felt under prepared. Glancing toward the black and white she-cat that slept near him, Valiantstride felt the familiar sense of happiness bubbling in his chest. They haadn't 'confirmed' anything about their relationships but Valianstride was happy to have her so close.
Nuzzling into her soft fur the tom-cat was easily reminded of her scent. Careful not to wake the she-cat he ventured out of the warrior's den and into the middle of camp.
Valiantstride made eye contact with Hawkfall and dipped his head in greeting. "If Skunkspots wakes up before I get back can you tell her I went to the meadow," He asked his clanmate, Hawkfall nodded. With his whereabouts known Valianstride headed toward the meadow.
His intention was to gather enough moss to replace both his nest and Skunspots' nest before the storm. He disliked the idea of the sweet she-cat going cold during the storm because they were ill-prepared. Getting lost in the walk until his paws felt the start of the soft moss meadow.
You're my end and my beginning, even when I lose I'm winning. 'Cause I give you all of me, and you give me all of you, oh oh 229 - Fawn- figured Skunk could meet up with Valiant or something.

It was weird, waking up alone. Skunkspots, despite her natural inclination towards mistrust and caution, had really... appreciated sleeping next to Valiantstride. When her yellow-green eyes opened, and the inside of the warriors' den came into focus, the black ears on the top of her white-furred head folded. Where did he go? Probably on patrol. Probably didn't want to wake her up. Skunkspots uttered a disgruntled sigh, flicking moss off the end of her feathered tail. It would've been nice if he wasn't so polite all the time; he must know by now that she... had a hard time being mad at him. Or saying no to spending time with him. If he'd asked her to go along, Skunkspots would've stretched, make a comment about the likelihood of rain, but still went.
Or maybe he just wanted a break from YOU. Wheedled a little voice in the back of her mind. Skunkspots' yawn was interrupted by this, a stinging hurt unfurling in her chest like a belligerent wasp. Ouch...
"Valiantstride went to the meadow." The voice of Hawkfall drew her awkward gaze to his, and she sheepishly dipped her head in thanks. Trying not to jauntily walk out of the den like an apprentice with a massive crush on the most popular cat in the Clan, Skunkspots forced herself to linger around her nest to stretch, groom her facial features, and then step out into the sunshine.
Well. Sunshine was being generous. It was more like light shining through dark gray bird's wings, casting the world in a shade of overcast.
Play it cool, Skunkspots... Don't rush... She made it two paw steps outside of camp before her pace quickened, and the warrioress was hurrying to the meadow, trying not to think herself out of it. Yes, she should've been training her apprentice. Yes, she was being a selfish, awful mentor, but... something inside her really... needed to see him.
Spotting the familiar pattern on the tom's coat, Skunkspots slowed, even as her pulse quickened until she could hear it loudly in her ears like raindrops. "Hey—uh, morning. Did you sleep okay?" Skunkspots practiced a smile, found it wasn't difficult, and the expression grew more natural.

Easily falling into a rhythm, Valiantstride let himself get lost in the work. His claws dug easily into the soft plush ground of the moss meadow. Scents of soft earth teased his nose and made him sneeze a few times, but he didn't stop. Valiantstride had a goal of building Skunkspots the softest nest possible, only the best for the pretty she-cat. Thought of her filled his head and for a moment he was pleasantly distracted by her. He knew that his feelings for Skunkspots were a bit fast but Valiantstride lived life to the fullest, he didn't have time to think too much. He followed his heart before his head probably to the annoyance of his clanmates.
Returning his attention to the moss, Valiantstride pulled a large chunk. A short purr escaped him, he was almost done! Then he'd be able to carry most of it back to camp in one trip, tend to Skunkspots' nest before coming back and gathering for his own. While he knew Skunkspots occupied a large portion of his thoughts and life, Valiantstride had let her set the pace of their budding relationship. Part of him wanted to suggest they become formal mates, make one big nest for the two of them just as Hawkfall and his made did. Again getting distracted by her, Valiantstride let his mind race about the future, the purr rumbling within him again.
"Would she want kits?" Valiantstride wondered to himself as he collected another decent bundle of moss. He hadn't given it much thought being a father and he knew he was getting ahead of himself. He wasn't even sure if they were actually mates. Confused for a moment Valiantstride did his best to avoid dwelling on it until he noticed the slight shift in smells around him. She had found him! With a wide smile, Valiantstride turned to greet the she-cat his eyes bright and welcoming.
For a split second he almost crowed into her space and offered her a few nuzzles in greeting. He held himself back by reminding himself that she was anxious about things. He didn't want to make it worse. He could almost say he craved her attention but that was a selfish part of himself he was afraid to admit.
"Good morning! Did you wake up okay?" He purred as a well to expell that desire to nuzzle her. It was hard for him but he could manage. "I slept really well but I noticed the clouds and figured you could use a warmer nest, especially if we get stuck in the warrior's den," Valiantstride explained pointing with his tail to the pile of moss, enough to create one of the softest nest in all of StoneClan. "I'm also planning on getting you some feathers to line it, I hear it helps keep it soft,"Valinstride added, realizing with a faint blush to his fur he was trying to impress her with his nest making abilities.

He was out here collecting moss? For her? Skunkspots blushed so deeply, she was a thousand percent certain that her white-and-black fur had changed to a shocking shade of russet. Light-headed by the emotional reaction, Skunkspots sat down, feeling shy and awkward over his... his affection. "O-Oh--you don't have to do that--"
But then he went on ahead, talking about feathers. He was going to line her nest with feathers, like she was a pregnant queen or something! It was... It was really really nice. But she couldn't accept it. She couldn't refuse it either, because she liked it. Did that make her a bad cat, to appreciate him doting on her? Skunkspots' tail wound itself into half circles, as if trying to tie itself into knots.
"Let's share." She blurted. "The nest. Let's share the nest. I don't want to be the only one enjoying all your hard work." Hardly seemed fair that he should go through all the trouble for someone like her. She was just a regular warrior. Not the best, not the worst. Just average. And he was... the opposite of average. He was brave and handsome, and genuine, which she hadn't realized another cat could even be until she'd really gotten to know him.
In the back of the young warrioress's mind, however, was the fear that she might get teased, if the other warriors saw how much he fussed over her. Wishing more than anything that they could build their own den somewhere else, without everyone having to witness how awkward and giddy he made her feel, Skunkspots somehow managed to smile. It was awkward, and laced with uncertainty, but she was getting better at it. "I'll help you get the feathers. What's your favorite color?" Black? Red? Brown? Whatever it was, she'd find it.
Even if it took all day.

Valiantstride was confused when Skunkspots suggested he didn't have to make her new nest. Did she not want him to? He did his best not to be hurt by her words, it was probably her nervousness. If she really didn't want it once he brought the moss back to camp then he'd offer moss to clanmates. In the mean time his goal was to make it for her.
However, all his worries faded away. Once she suggested they share the nest. His ears perked up and his eyes sparkled at the thought. "You mean it?!" He asked before he erupted into a purr. He didn't care if that meant they weren't mate but just nestmates, he didn't care. It meant that he could snuggle close to the pretty she-cat and sleep next to her. That was more than enough given their current unofficial situation.
Unable to hold back anymore Valiantrstide took a few step forward and pressed his muzzle to her cheek and rubbed it slightly. "I'll make the nest feel like we are sleeping on a cloud" He added into her ear before stepping back and turning his attention toward the moss ball. Just a few more scraps and he'd be done.
Hearing her suggestion at the feathers, Valiantstride paused for a second to thin. "Black or white feathers are nice. Maybe we can go down to the RainClan border? Find some of those water bird feathers," Valiantstride suggested with another content and excited purr.

This tom just oozed hopeless romantic the way a hive oozed honeycomb. Skunkspots didn't know whether to be inwardly revolted by how much she liked it, or outright shocked she even liked this kinda thing at all. She hadn't realized she was so... sappy... and susceptible to a sweet tom's even sweeter words.
Skunkspots flushed beneath her fur, and meekly brushed her muzzle with his when he came in close to do the same. Great StarClan, this is so embarrassing. Yet they were alone. It wasn't as if the whole world was watching. I bet Cricketleap's laughing at me from StarClan, thought Skunkspots, thinking of her bubbly, goodnatured sister. She'd be... happy for me. If this is what I think it is. ... Is it?
While Valiantstride made plans to head for the RainClan border in search of feathers, Skunkspots wrestled with herself, trying to find the courage to speak and then subsequently hiding it behind a rock when her cynicism reared it's fanged head.
Just out with it. Just out.
Okay. Here went... something. "Valiantstride, what are we?" Her words were about as graceful as a tortoise stuck on it's back, but she didn't care. Her yellow-green eyes showed a swirling vortex of emotion, and a vulnerability there that she did not like revealing to anyone, even someone she trusted as much as him. "Are we... mates?" Twitching ears, fidgeting paws.
Skunkspots shook out her pelt, but the anxiety still buzzed through her fur like bumblebees. "Was I supposed to say something official? I can. I mean, I don't know the words, but I can... agree or... or something..." Black ears flattened, and she resisted the urge to brush her paw over her face, as if she could wipe away the awkward words just uttered. Ugh. Keep it together, Skunk. "I... I... Life is short, so we should be mates."
Life was really short. Hers might be especially so if Valiantstride said no, or worse, was made uncomfortable by her sudden assertiveness. But somewhere, deep under her frantically beating heart, this felt right.

Valiantstride after suggesting that they head to RainClan border after he finished with the moss, Valianstride focused back on his task.
He used his claws to dug up more and more moss before pushing it toward the already gathered pile. He kept digging because he wasn't sure how big to make the nest. He was of average build, Skunkspots a bit smaller than him. With the moss he gathered there would be plenty for the two of them.
However, his thought process was stalled as Skunkspots words hit his ears. Turning to look back at her, he tried to hide the look of shock easily worn on his face. Her asking about their relationship reminded him that they weren't anything official. A fact eh didn't like.
Trying to answer her right away Valiantstride didn't know what to say. If he suggested they be mate would she say yes to avoid being awkward? That was the last thing he wanted. Even as he tried to speak, Skunkspots went on. She wanted to know if they were mates!
His face quickly shifted from shock to a smile as he tried to nod, a purr erupting from him. He wanted to interject and calm the anxiety that showed in her eyes and her movements, but Valiantstride was basking in the glow of her asking him!
He never thought she'd be asking him and it was enough to send his heart soaring. "I've been waiting to find the right moment to ask you, I didn't want to blurt it out and you say yes only because you felt like you had to,"] Valaintstride explained pressing his cheek to her's as his purr kept getting louder, almost like a small thunder storm.
"I would really like to be your mate and I'm so happy you asked me," He added with another gentle nuzzle to her cheek, his time he licked at her ear. "Let's head home and build the nest so I can take you, my mate, to find some feathers for our nest." His words soft and gentle as his purr almost drowned them out.
