LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun The rain showed no sign of letting up. The Elders were already complaining of sore joints and stiff shoulders - even his mother looked more frail, more vulnerable then he could ever remember seeing her. After gently nuzzling the pale-furred she-cat and telling Gorsetail to oversee an in-camp training exercise for the apprentices, Lionstar had taken a small patrol to the LightningClan border. It seemed the patrol, led by Wildsky, had not returned as quickly as he'd liked; in fact, they hadn't returned at all.
With water dripping from the ends of his whiskers, and the rattatatat of each fat drop striking the bark and leaves, it wasn't ideal conditions for travel or tracking prey, let alone a group of three cats. The ground had muddied enough that his paws sank when he stepped, though much of it was still very hard from winter; it would be a few more days before the first few sprouts of newleaf finally pushed their way up through the surface. However, there were buds on the trees, and the prey was returning. Something Lionstar was always grateful for.
Where the Dark Forest did they go?
Lionstar shook his muzzle, trying to shake away the excess water so he could study the tracks in the forest floor - were those the faint impressions of cat feet, or something else? - but yowling and battle cries distracted him.
"Quickly!" He snapped to his own patrol, and Lionstar led the charge towards the open woods, the golden tom clearing some fallen branches to land into a scene of chaos. Wildsky and Skyshadow were grappling with some LightningClan warriors, while Sparrowpaw was desperately trying to hold her own against a red-eyed, white-furred she-warrior - Cherrypool - who had her outmatched in every possible way.
"Enough!" A snarl twisting his muzzle, Lionstar's claws were unsheathed, and he thrust his way into the fighting cats. The scent markers must have been blurred from the rain. He didn't care who started it, TreeClan was going to end it. Wildsky faltered mid-recovery from getting bowled over by a LightningClan cat, but Skyshadow wasn't so quick to heed his leader's words. The young tom, the son of Lionstar's long-dead best friend, Stormchaser, had leaped on Cherrypool's back with a yowl of triumph.
"Skyshadow! I said ENOUGH—"
Lionstar hissed in surprise as Sunblaze lunged for him, and the two toms were locked in a grappling match - the ferocity of the senior warrior enough to push Lionstar out of diplomacy and peacekeeping into what he excelled at; battle.

Feathercloud Adrenaline tapped an incessant tattoo in her ears as she streaked behind Lionstar, silver fur sodden and clinging to her frame. Normally one to avoid mud and rain due to an extraordinarily long coat, the silvery warrioress found she could care less about the mud seeping between her claws in that moment. Ice blue eyes were wide, burning with a deep seated panic blossoming in her chest. Sparrowpaw hadn't returned to camp with her patrol yet. Though she was by no means a pessimist, Feathercloud's mind had begun to creep toward some rather... Unsettling scenarios as the rain continued to hammer down upon TreeClan.
She'd almost been relieved when Lionstar had motioned for her to follow, forming another patrol to leave in search of the lost one. Trekking through the sodden, still healing territory was no easy task, and the ends of her usually feathery tail dragged in the mud on occasion. It was going to be a pain in the rump to sort out later. The remaining fragments of vanity in her mind, thoughts surrounding what he'd think of her if Sprucefur saw her sodden frame, dissolved as the sounds of battle filled her ears. She inhaled sharply, stifling the bloom of dread. No..
All her training told her to wait for Lionstar's signal. She'd grown up with him as an ever-present symbol of command and respect in her life, and that was something difficult to shake, even in the heat of battle. But things were happening so fast. Seemingly before she could blink, a LightningClan tom bowled Lionstar over, and Skyshadow had leapt atop the red-eyed LightningClan warrioress. Her instinct were torn, a desperation to protect both Lionstar and Sparrowpaw sweeping through her veins. But she knew Lionstar. She knew that he was more than capable of handling himself.
So she dove for Sparrowpaw. Silver paws slid on the slick earth, the she-cat skidding to a halt in front of her apprentice as she cowered in the mud. "Sparrowpaw, come!" She hissed against the battering rain, nosing her worriedly to her paws. Blue eyes swept the fray, ears pivoting for any sound of a cat too close for comfort. She lead Sparrowpaw clear of the brawl, guiding the half-tripping she-cat to a tree a few foxlength away. "Climb!" She instructed, nodding encouragingly to the trembling apprentice. She could see exhaustion written on the young she-cat's features, and a part of her felt bad.
But it was the safest option, despite the rain slicked bark. As Sparrowpaw began to scale the trunk, Feathercloud followed on her tail, long claws biting into the bark. On a pawful of occasions, the silver warrioress lunged forward to secure her teeth in the apprentice's scruff, stopping her from slipping with a grunt and a pull. She urged Sparrowpaw on, to the second set of branches. Helping her apprentice onto one of the larger branches after briefly testing its strength, she pressed her nose into Sparrowpaw's drenched fur. "StarClan I was so worried..." She breathed.
Steeling herself after a moment, she pulled back, claws flexing into the tree as began to clamber back down. "Stay here until I come back for you." When Sparrowpaw gave her a small nod, Feathercloud hastened her descent until her paws made contact with the ground once more. She would have loved to leap from branch to branch to drop down on the unsuspecting LightningClan cats from above... But leaping in this weather, even for her, was bound to end in disaster. Streaking across the ground instead, she threw herself into battle with a shrieking battle cry.
The silver blur bowled into one of the LightningClan warriors facing Wildsky, mud caking her coat as she rolled with her opponent, twisting herself to ensure she did not end up on the bottom as she fought to pin the enemy down. Oh, she would have liked to sink her teeth into that white furred demon who'd been tormenting her apprentice. But Skyshadow was capable, and she was of more use evening out the odds for Wildsky. Some day. She told herself grimly. ~650 words - Fawn - Feathercloud has entered the fray! 10 Moons. LightningClan. She-Cat.
It had started out as just another patrol, with Minkpaw trailing along more bored than anything else, tracking at the back with her tail low and her mind drifting. She hadn't even wanted to be part of the patrol, but had been dragged along for her troubles since she had been standing a little too close to the cat who initiated it, looking a little too relaxed.
"Bleh."
She huffed, shaking her head to dispel the raindrops that had gathered there in her fur, and trotting a little in order to catch up. She regretted having been so absent-minded however, as she bumped into the back of Cherrypool and gazed past the warrior's flank to see a TreeClan patrol in full force, looking furious. Minkpaw's own patrol outnumbered them, and Minkpaw was careful to step up to stand next to Cherrypool to make that seem more obvious, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference.
The other patrol insisted they were on TreeClan territory, while Minkpaw and her own patrol bristled at the suggestion and snapped retorts. The outcome was inevitable, but nothing quite prepared Minkpaw for it. Before she knew it, everyone was at each other's fur, claws out and teeth bared, and the apprentice stood frozen for a moment, realising that she had never really been in a proper fight.
The freeze didn't last long however, and as Lionstar himself arrived as backup Minkpaw found herself flung straight into the fray. She ran straight for Sparrowpaw from the side as Cherrypool was attacked, thinking that another apprentice seemed the logical choice, since the chances of them being equally matched were higher than if she was foolish enough to attack a warrior, but she was out of luck as the smaller apprentice was almost immediately whisked out of the fight. Minkpaw stood still for a second, a little dejected that her target had been stolen from her, then ran to support her clanmates.
Wildsky was locked in combat, and Minkpaw danced around the TreeClan cat as she tried to find an opening while the two warriors grappled, but nothing seemed to present and the apprentice snarled in frustration. She was here but she couldn't even get involv-
SMASH
Someone had crashed into her, and Minkpaw found herself spinning and tumbling in the mud with claws grabbing harshly at her. The young brown apprentice gasped as claws racked at her thick fur and found purchase in her flesh, scoring red marks down her flank, but didn't let go of her opponent. She felt a thrill build up inside her, a sweet primal release, and suddenly it all seemed to come so naturally to her. She felt a calm rise up inside her despite her predicament, pinned easily beneath a silver warrior larger than herself, and instead acted instinctively.
As Feathercloud naturally pinned her, as she was smaller and had been taken off-guard, Minkpaw lashed out at the larger cat's belly with her hind-legs, doing her best to rake and dig her claws in as deep as she could. As she did that, she shoved her sheathed paws in the direction of Feathercloud's throat, hoping to punch her there and make her feel like she was choking.

80 Moons. LightningClan. Senior Warrior. Cherrypool did not know the name of the tom she faced off against. Cherrypool didn't care. All that mattered, in that moment, was that blood had been drawn, and the scent of it on her tongue was enough to break the fragile chains that held back Cherrypool's affection for inflicting pain. The long-legged blue-gray tom was overconfident. Worse than that, he still had that petulant youthful look about him that Cherrypool had come to associate with inexperience.
While her true prey — a small TreeClan apprentice — had been herded away as soon as Skyshadow had distracted her, Cherrypool's vermillion eyes locked onto the tom's blue-green.
Swipe!
The white demon followed an arc of blood from Skyshadow's muzzle as it landed on her chest fur, staining the white strands cherry red. The rain was quick to plaster pelts to bodies, and Cherrypool's physique - slender, a fighter's physique - was revealed. Bone white claws furrowed the earth as Cherrypool struck like a snake, biting Skyshadow hard in the neck. The tom gasped and struggled, ripping away from her with all the panicked writhing of a predator caught by something higher up on the food chain.
Kill him. Whispered a voice so close to her ear. It had the same deceptive charm as Whiteshade's. He was the shape her inner demons took; Cherrypool's jaws tightened, choking off Skyshadow's air supply despite the desperate flail of claws against her shoulders and neck.
The apprentice in the tree gasped.
Cherrypool let go of Skyshadow, who gurgled pitifully and ran into the brush, posture low. Defeated.
With stained jaws and stained eyes and a stained soul, the albino senior warrior circled the base of the tree the apprentice was sitting in. She wouldn't kill this one. Just frighten her. TreeClan was going to have to learn that they couldn't shelter their young; this was a battle. If the shaking ball of fur on the branch above wasn't meant to experience violence, then they should've stayed in the nursery.
Cherrypool latched onto the tree trunk, and sacrificed dignity for speed as she clawed - one muddied, bloodied paw after the other - her way towards the TreeClan she-cat.

Feathercloud Her opponent ended up being a LightningClan apprentice. She became aware of this as the smaller she-cat writhed beneath her silver paws. She could feel paws pummeling against her stomach, claws snagging in her fur. Not for the first time, she thanked StarClan for the length and thickness of her pelt. She dodged the first strike of the apprentice's forepaws, drawing her head back sharply. It was midway through this motion that she saw two things that caused her heart to sink. First, Skyshadow slunk off into the bushes, tail between his legs. Second, the white she-cat he'd been fighting was clawing up the trunk of Sparrowpaw's tree.
The air rushed out of her throat as Minkpaw's paw collided with it. Coughing in surprise, Feathercloud dropped her haunches heavily onto Minkpaw, further pinning the smaller she-cat's hind legs. A mix of panic and determination flashed through her gaze, the silver she-cat ducking to the side and clamping her teeth in Minkpaw's foreleg. With a sharp roll, she hauled the apprentice over her, using the momentum to all but throw the smaller she-cat off. Mud clung to her, seeping into her pelt as she streaked toward the shape of the climbing white demon.
With only a brief glance over her shoulder to see if Minkpaw was following, the silver-pelted TreeClan warrioress launched herself into the air. Claws sunk into the tree bark with ease despite the rain, Feathercloud eating up the distance between herself and Cherrypool. Just. A little. Closer. She urged herself on, haunches bunching beneath her as she sought out enough grip to leap upward. Finding the catch she required, the silver warrioress shoved upward with a yowl, teeth clamping down on whatever they could reach. Which, unfortunately for Cherrypool, was the end of her white tail. Tugging sharply, Feathercloud aimed to force the white devil to stop climbing and face her instead. 314 words - Fawn @sparrowkeeper - Hope you don't mind, Sparrowkeeper and Fawn! 10 Moons. LightningClan. She-Cat. Minkpaw cursed internally as Feathercloud managed to dodge her first thrust at the warrior's throat,
Well at least this keeps her teeth out of my shoulder
She thought to herself begrudgingly, continuing her efforts and managing to take advantage of the larger she-cat's distraction
HA! Take that!
She thought triumphantly, but the thought was fleeting as the blow resulted in Feathercloud putting even more of her weight down onto Minkpaw's body. The apprentice yelped and wriggled, but it did her no good as it appeared to her that she was even more completely trapped.
Surely she must be off-balanced from this, what if I tried to push-
She wasn't fast enough to take any advantage, eyes growing wide in shock as teeth grasped her leg, fangs digging in so painfully that all she could do was gasp. Minkpaw had never been in a real fight before, let alone felt teeth sink into her. The claws along her side earlier were nothing on this, and she felt herself being flung bodily over Feathercloud's back and into the cold wet mud with a SMACK that stole the breath from her. Terrified of a fresh attack, Minkpaw staggered to her paws as fast as she could manage, mistakenly putting weight on her injured limb and wincing.
No attack came, and as she managed to gather her bearings she saw that Feathercloud was after Cherrypool, who was gunning straight for poor Sparrowpaw, stuck in a tree. Minkpaw felt a flash of anger that she had been thrust aside so easily, then began to fully take in the situation.
A rush of different emotions went through the apprentice. If Sparrowpaw was just going to hide up a tree like a mouse-heart, she deserved to be sought out and taught a lesson for daring to leave camp without the gall to fight for her clan. On the other paw, Cherrypool was creepy as all the Dark Forest and Minkpaw felt a sliver of doubt that Cherrypool would be fair on the TreeClan apprentice. The choice of how to handle this was made for her however, as Feathercloud's jaws snapped shut on Cherrypool's tail.
OUCH
Minkpaw winced to herself, leaping forward as Cherrypool and Feathercloud began to settle their grievances. This offered a much fairer set-up. With the warriors attacking each other, wounded Minkpaw was left to tackle that damn coward Sparrowpaw.
Bracing herself for what she knew would be seriously painful, Minkpaw jumped up onto the tree bark herself, taking care to skirt the warriors as she did so. She grimaced at the pain that laced up her leg, but the apprentice was true to her namesake and bore the pain well as she forced her way up, claws digging into the bark. She channelled her anger at Feathercloud for having dumped her and put it into her furious energy as she drew onto the same level as Sparrowpaw, who had waited for her up on the branch.
Not such a coward after all eh?
"You gonna join in with the grown-ups Sparrowkit?"
Minkpaw snapped, tail lashing as she dug her claws into the bark for purchase, stepping closer to Sparrowpaw. She felt suddenly unsure however, Sparrowpaw looked too confident.
Fighting a TreeClan cat this high off the ground might not be wise...
But there wasn't enough time for that. Sparrowpaw had hissed furiously in response to her insult, and suddenly the other apprentice was on her, a stunning blow hitting Minkpaw in the head and making her stagger dangerously. The brown apprentice righted herself as best she could, swerving as Sparrowpaw darted past her and snagging at her ankle with her claws as the fast apprentice tried to get some distance away from Minkpaw. Her claws caught, and the pair both lost their balance and dragged at each other with their claws as they fell out of the tree and onto the hard, unforgiving ground with a sickening thud.

80 Moons. LightningClan. Senior Warrior. The easy prey was stolen from her. Teeth, needle-sharp, on the end of her tail caused the she-cat's alabaster head - red eyes inset like rubies, glinting blood red in the haunted gray light - to turn. Cherrypool hissed, a ripple of displeasure coursing from paws to whisker tips; unlatching her claws, Cherrypool let herself be pulled from the tree, landing solidly but into an even crouch.
Without care for the damage this would do to her opponent, Cherrypool aimed unsheathed blows at Feathercloud's face. The intention was to draw blood. The outcome could possibly be blindness - if she timed it just right. Cherrypool wasn't in the habit of maiming others. Cherrypool wasn't in the habit of giving in to her darker, more insidious impulses. But this battle felt different.
There was something... surreal, about engaging in a battle against an opponent who lived so stringently to the Code. TreeClan had a reputation for being do-gooders; for being leaders when it came to examples of fairness and justice.
But Cherrypool didn't believe this. In every cat, there must have lurked some darkness. It could not be true, that only she and Whiteshade and Nightstep had been born with this empty pit inside of them. Others must have it. Could she drag that part of Feathercloud out to the surface, like a rabbit screaming from its burrow?
Sounds of the surrounding fray fell upon deaf ears, the albino warrioress locked in a wicked battle with the TreeClan warrioress; claws raked, fangs tore, and tufts of fur -- Feathercloud seemed more fur than feline -- floated down in bloodied pieces from both of them. It was difficult to say who had the advantage, though 40 more moons of experience had been pounded into Cherrypool's mind and muscle memory.
Before the fight could escalate further, a sickening thud, the sound of bodies falling from a great height, froze time.
A dark golden shape surged through her peripherals, and the large form of Lionstar drew all eyes to him as he raced to the still heap, LightningClan blood and TreeClan blood staining the ground both.
"Sparrowpaw!" Lionstar's tone carried an edge of fear, fear for the kitten's life, before command broke through. "Feathercloud, go get Bluejay and Falconstorm at once!" He turned sharp eyes upon the others. "This battle is over."
Sunblaze's tail lashed, even as his Clanmates hurried to check on the body of Minkpaw; Cherrypool stayed back. She was never welcome at scenes like this. Bad luck, they called her. A dark omen. Instead, she stood by the handsome warrior's side, a look passing between them.
The battle was paused. Not over. A reckoning would come soon enough.

Feathercloud They fell in a writhing mass, the white LightningClan devil hauled from the tree with a sharp yank of her tail. Feathercloud only released the appendage to avoid being caught beneath Cherrypool's weight, darting to the side as rapidly as she could manage. Unfortunately for her, Cherrypool was fast. The best Feathercloud could manage to avoid claws across her snout was to turn her shoulder into the blow. Claws raked through her fur, tearing out tufts. With an answering hiss, the silver TreeClan warrioress struck back, swatting the next blow off trajectory and opening up a pathway for herself to retaliate.
From here, it was like a brutal dance. For every three attacks launched, one would strike, and fur would rip from someone's flank. On occasion, claws scored deep enough to tear through skin. Feathercloud choked on her own breath as Cherrypool's thorn-sharp claws broke through the skin on her haunch. A thick warmth pooled around the wound, and the silver TreeClanner staggered to the side as her leg suddenly refused to hold up her weight. She'd been part way through righting herself to face her opponent once more when something in her peripheral visioncaught her attention .
And just like that, her heart sunk. Ears flattened against her skull, blue eyes widening to rival the moon's circumference. All she could do was watch as the two apprentices tumbled from the tree to land with a sickening thud. Everything stopped. It was Lionstar's booming voice that reminded her to breathe. Cherrypool was forgotten as Feathercloud leaped forward and nearly tripped herself in the process. And then she was running. Lionstar had ordered her to fetch Bluejay and Falconstorm, and her frayed nerves had clung to the opportunity to do something, anything that wasn't staring at the heap of fur and limbs that was the two apprentices.
Her stomach seized at the thought, and she was suddenly very aware of the throbbing in her left haunch. Her fur felt weighed down by the rain, and she could no longer tell what was mud and what was blood. Every second step, her gait bounced, the silver warrioress avoiding applying weight to her injured hindleg. The streak back to camp seemed to take an eternity, her mind skidding from thought to thought with wild abandon. Adrenaline coursed through her veins, paws eating up the ground until she finally burst through the camp entrance, nearly crashing into Skyfall in the process.
Without a word to the startled white senior warrior, Feathercloud half-ran half-tripped toward the medicine cat den, finding her voice part way there. "Bluejay! Falconstorm! There... LightningClan attacked! There's been an accident! S-Sparrowpaw... You have to help!" Skyfall appeared at her side at once, a sturdy shoulder offering support which she took gladly. She stepped from paw to paw, her hind leg raised off the ground to give it a rest. Feathercloud felt overwhelmed, panic and fear for her apprentice colliding with an unquenchable desire to bury herself against a certain pale-pelted tom.
The appearance of the two medicine cats and Skyfall's steady voice broke her train of thought. "Feathercloud, show us the way." Breaking away from the white tom, Feathercloud pelted full tilt out of camp. Blue eyes glanced wildly over her shoulder, ensuring all three of her followers were close behind. Perhaps it was the pain, perhaps it was her desperation to get back to Sparrowpaw, but the return journey passed much more quickly than the first. As Falconstorm and Bluejay surged forward to examine the two apprentices, Feathercloud found her limbs freezing up. Standing stock still on the outskirts of the ground, Feathercloud could only watch as Skyfall's now-rain soaked form stepped up to Lionstar silently. 620 words - Fawn Justice @sparrowkeeper - Your wish is my command~ If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. background image | j.r.r. tolkein | table by phoenix

10 Moons. LightningClan. She-Cat. The world swam in from of Minkpaw's eyes, swimming in and out of focus as the apprentice tried to get a grip on what had happened. She remembered rushing wind, Sparrowpaw's terrified expression, her own soundless gasp-
Did we fall?
The events of the last few seconds began to come back to her as she shut her eyes, her surroundings too confusing and chaotic. She lay as still as she could manage, in that in-between period after a serious event where you don't yet know the extent of your own injuries, fighting to first and foremost just get her breath back. The fall had winded both the apprentices quite badly, and they mostly lay still and gasped as cats huddled anxiously around them.
Pain
It started dull, like a wolf prowling on the edge of Minkpaw's consciousness, waiting for a wrong step, an invitation to get past the defences of her shock as she started to come back to reality. She gasped out, shutting her eyes tighter and pressing her muzzle into the earth beneath her as her chest pounded and she felt light-headed. It felt like her left front leg was being crushed. It was a throbbing, demanding pain that drove out all other complaints. She barely left the shallow gashes on her flanks, didn't even give mention to the deep bite marks in her right front leg from Feathercloud's throw. Her left leg was everything, and it took up her world.
Oh StarClan-
She panted, trying to gather herself, to get some control. Beside her she could hear Sparrowpaw making similar noises. The apprentices had both instinctively attempted to land on her paws, with the front legs coming down first to take the brunt of the impact. Minkpaw had favoured her already injured right leg, putting the worst of her weight on her left as she landed, while Sparrowpaw had similarly attempted to save her bleeding hind leg by landing on her front paws first and had payed for it in the same manner as Minkpaw.
The LightningClan apprentice gradually let her head rise, looking around her owlishly at the gathered warriors.
Has the battle stopped?
It looked like it, but Minkpaw didn't find she could concentrate too long on anything other than her leg. She bent her head back down to the ground again as medicine cats arrived, barely registering their arrival.

He'd been taking inventory of the herbs they'd managed to gather since the beginning of newleaf. He noted that they were still low on a few, but those he could go and get when he went out next. Perhaps even go as far as StarClan's claws, just to see if he could find a few of the ones that grew at the borderlands of other clans. Without crossing over into their lands, of course. And if he were to run into a certain blue-eyed she-cat once again? Well that was just a happy accident. His thoughts pulled from the pretty she-cat of StoneClan to the present when his name was called and the situation was told. He came forward immediately, head tipping as he and his mentor were briefed on the matter. "Deep breaths Feathercloud, we can't have you passing out on us." He told her, tone soothing even as she leaned in against Skyfall for support. He dipped his head to the other tom then gave a sharp nod and started gathering herbs. "Give me a moment, I'll grab some herbs to help stabilize Sparrowpaw for the trip home." He did just that as he darted about the den, dropping plants onto a leaf. Mostly those for pain and to stop bleeding and help with blood loss. Things that had to be stopped out on site rather than once they got home. He didn't know badly the young apprentice was injured, nor if anyone else was hurt as well. "There, lets go."Falconstorm caught himself at a full run the entire way there, having to check his stride for the smaller she-cats several times since he didn't know exactly where the battle had taken place. Once they arrived, and he noted that LightningClan's medicine cat didn't seem to be there yet, he went straight for the pile of fur near a tree. Bluejay was the medicine cat between them that was fully trained, but by now he at least knew how to access the situation and give them what was needed for pain. "Be still." He finally noticed there were two little bodies rather than one. "Both of you." He looked briefly at the gathered cats then set himself to work, knowing Bluejay would start her own work shortly. The large tom gently nuzzled each young cat, assuring them that help was there, that someone was going to stop their pain. "You are going to be okay, just try to be still." He didn't care, in this moment, that one of these was a LightingClan apprentice. What mattered to him was that they were both young, that they both would have parents worrying when they came back. He wasn't expecting two so badly injured. Had anyone sent for Kindleflare? They were both going to be tended, but he'd only brought things to help with the bare basics. The little LightningClan apprentice would need to go home for proper healing. LIONSTAR leader of treeclan Blinded by the light of a new sun Feathercloud returned with not one but both medicine cats, and Skyfall bringing up the rear. Half-expecting a second battle patrol to be following behind the white warrior, Lionstar uttered an inward sigh of relief as it appeared Skyfall was alone. "I am staying until both apprentices have been treated," said Lionstar. Solemn. His own scratches - minor - could be dealt with later. "I need you to find out which of us trespassed. That won't matter much to Firestar, but I won't hear of TreeClan being blamed for this if it was LightningClan's fault to begin with." He could trust Skyfall. The tom was level-headed, and exactly who you wanted in times of crisis.
"THEY started it!" snapped Wildsky, angrily shaking blood out of his eyes, where it oozed from a cut on his forehead. With a lashing tail, Wildsky thrust his jaw towards Cherrypool, who was coldly overlooking the medicine cats tending to Sparrowpaw and Minkpaw.
"No, we didn't." She hissed, the sound like icicles being scraped over rock.
Lionstar pinned the deputy's brother with his gaze, Wildsky staring back defiantly. "Silence. Tell Skyfall what happened, and then go back to camp."
What a mess.
And where was Kindleflare? It was peculiar that TreeClan's healers had arrived sooner than LightningClan's; LightningClan was supposed to be the quickest of the five. They have further to run. Which meant that this fight had happened in TreeClan territory, not LightningClan's. Lionstar looked at the apprentices, still in shock from their fall. That TreeClan was not at fault was little consolation now.

Minkpaw fell from a tree. The words drove horrified claw-pricks into the very center of her heart, the ginger and white she-cat feeling suddenly like she couldn't breathe. She stood stock still a moment, amber eyes wide and staring at the expectant face of the LightningClan warrior who'd run back from the skirmish to fetch her. For that heartbeat, she panicked, any coherent thought fleeing her mind until a realization crashed into her with enough force to mentally knock her off her paws. Minkpaw n-needs my help. Roused from her frozen horror, Kindleflare whirled on her paws and began rummaging through her herb stores.
Admittedly, she was a little more forceful than necessary, the nervous energy still clinging to her limbs. Herbs tumbled from their perches, the shy LightningClan medicine cat vowing to return them to their pedestals upon her return, keen amber eyes searching out exactly what she might need. Pulling together a wad of cobwebs, comfrey and stinging nettle with broken limbs in mind, she added it to her small bundle of typical healing needs. Gathering it in her jaws as best she could, Kindleflare quickly fell into step behind the leading warrior. The sprint there was difficult, the medicine cat unused to so much physical activity these days.
Ignoring the thought of her brother's disappointment at her lacking endurance, she dove into TreeClan territory with flattened ears. The commotion up ahead slowly came into view, Kindleflare noting a large white TreeClan tom with bi-colored eyes interrogating some of his own Clan. From the looks of it, he'd not been involved in the initial scuffle; his coat was free of recent wounds, unlike most of the others nearby. Amber eyes glossed over a silver warrioress standing frozen behind the huddle of cats, Kindleflare pushing past Cherrypool, making sure to give her a wide berth.
The impressive form of TreeClan's figurehead towered above her, his golden eyes focused on his two medicine cats tending to the fallen apprentices. Brushing past him with a mumbled "My a-apologies...", Kindleflare couldn't quite figure out whether she was apologizing for breaking his concentration, or apologizing for LightningClan's trespass on TreeClan territory. Nodding briefly to Falconstorm and Bluejay, she set down her bundle of herbs before turned her attention to the injured apprentices. Stooping slightly, Kindleflare rasped her tongue against Minkpaw's cheek, murmuring gently to the injured LightningClan apprentice. "Minkpaw... It's Kindleflare. I'm h-here."
She hoped to accomplish two things with this; the first being to assess Minkpaw's state of consciousness, the second was to give the apprentice something familiar to scent. Currently, they were surrounding by TreeClan, the air thick with their scent. Kindleflare's scent, though tinged with herbs, was distinctly LightningClan, and she hoped it would help calm the apprentice, if only slightly. The ginger and white medicine cat quickly turned her attention to Minkpaw's injuries, feeling momentary relief that no bones were showing through the skin on either apprentice. Murmuring soft reassurances to the likely frightened young she-cat, Kindleflare began gently pushing her nose into Minkpaw's fur, seeking out injuries both on and beneath the skin.
From here, her work was methodical, reaching for differing herbs and wads of cobwebs in irregular intervals. Though she remained focused on her work, one ginger ear remained turned to catch any surrounding voices, primarily focused on the two TreeClan medicine cats in case they had something to share or needed anything she could provide. |

10 Moons. LightningClan. She-Cat. Voices were raised and air rushed past her in wafts as cats moved close to her. Minkpaw heard a strange voice telling her to stay still, and a foreign scented cat nuzzled at her face in comfort. Instinctively she shied away, but didn't put much heart into it. The voice seemed calm and reassuring rather than aggressive, and belatedly the apprentice reasoned it must be a TreeClan medicine cat.
Great StarClan this hurts
She gritted her teeth but didn't let herself make a sound. Beside her she could see Sparrowpaw's form looking comforted and cheered by the arrival of her own clan's medicine cats. Looked like she was going to be fine, and Minkpaw used that to try and squash down any guilt that started to pipe up about who's fault the tumble was.
We were both at fault. Don't blame yourself, and don't blame that cowardly little-
A warm tongue brushed her cheek, bringing her more into focus with her surroundings, and the apprentice blinked owlishly as she looked up at Kindleflare. Her own familiar clan scent set Minkpaw far more at ease, and she grinned stupidly.
"Hi Kindleflare."
She rasped, her voice sounding far more strained that she had expected. She tried to steady herself, but the pain made the end of her words turn into a gasp as she set her teeth again and tried to ride it out. The pain didn't really recede much. She stayed steady as the medicine cat began to probe for her injuries. She grimaced as her ribs were prodded, feeling fresh bruising already blossoming there, and winced when Kindleflare's investigations revealed the shallow gashes that claws had raked into her flanks.
The true agony resided in her front legs however, and Minkpaw couldn't hold back her squeak of pain when her left leg was prodded. No injuries showed on the outside, but already the limb was swelling up painfully from a break in the bone. Her right leg had deep bite marks, but the bone pain from her left was what ruled her. Everything else somehow felt trivial compared to it. Cobwebs and medicines plastered the apprentice's wounds, but all her focus stayed on her left front leg. Her increasing level of consciousness helped little more than to heighten the agony.
"StarClan's claws, am I going to be crippled?"
She breathed quietly, then paused as she realised she didn't know if she had said that aloud or thought it.

"I went on and staunched the blood flow. I didn't know how far off you were from getting here." He told the LightningClan she-cat absently as he nudged the herbs he needed to manage Sparrowpaw's pain around on the leaf he'd brought with him. As a medicine cat, even one in training, he'd brought more than he really needed since he hadn't been absolutely certain who all was injured despite being told that the apprentices had fallen from the tree. They were the critical, but others were likely to need a patch up before too long. He didn't see a reason not to share if it was needed, and one of the big rules of a medicine cat was help all cats regardless of clan or lack there of. So, even though this Clan and its cats had attacked them, he wasn't going to refuse care to the badly injured apprentice. He knew how to do the basic care like pain control and stopping the bleeding, but he admitted to still learning some of the more delicate tasks such as setting bones. He knew what was needed to do so, but had yet to have to do so and would have to watch and give Bluejay what she needed to do so. The large tom dipped his head towards Kindleflare in greeting, offering a comforting lick to the top of Sparrowpaw's. "Are you cold?" He knew what shock was, and one of the big things he was worried about now was the bloodloss sending one or both half-grown apprentices into shock. He also knew the best thing was to stop the bleeding, which he had done, and keeping them warm as needed. [OOC : Let me know if I need to change anything, I tried to let him do the basics since he's still an apprentice.] BlooRey DVD Fawn @sparrowkeeper
