Firestar returned to her den with a loud sigh. Russetfall stirred from the shared nest at his mate's arrival. She had just spent the first part of her day tracking down various cats and invite them to join her for a meeting. Her goal was to bring up the fact that Niko was approaching adult hood. Choices needed to be made but she wanted to get the opinion of those around her. Firestar didn't want to force the tom out of the camp, but she had to honor the warrior code.

Russetfall sensed the distress of his mate as he rose up to his paws. "Who did you invite? "I invited Whitesparrow, Kindleflare, Redscar plus a few others. Also Burningleaf and I'm sure he will have Flashbrook come." Firestar told him, turning her head toward her den entrance. She had instructed those who wanted to come to enter without permission. She had thought about inviting them to walk with her to the trampled clearing, but snow still lingered on the valley floor, her den was much warmer.

"I wish I knew what to do," Firestar mused allowed, Russetfall nuzzled his mates cheeks softly, a gentle reminder he supported her. "If being a leader was easy everyone would do it," Russetfall told her a slight purr warm in his chest. She nodded in gratitude for what he had to say, he had a good point.

As they continued to wait, Firestar let her mate busy himself with grooming her fur. While she appreciated the tenderness of his care, she was clearly distracted. Cloudy thoughts filled her as she wish StarClan would just tell her what to do about Niko.

Nervous pawsteps paced a rut through the medicine cat den as Kindleflare padded up and down its length. Though there was not an abundance of room, the slim she-cat made it work somehow, turning rapidly enough that her whiskers only barely brushed the side of the den as she curved her body around. Amber eyes stared down at the ground as she paced, her mind whirling through all the possible reasons Firestar might have asked she join a meeting. H-Have I doe something wrong? Has my work b-been unsatisfactory? D-Does sh-she n-not like me?! Little flutters of panic disturbed her steadily beating heart at the thought of Firestar, or all cats, disliking her. Unable to bear it alone any longer, Kindleflare all but threw herself into the main Clan area once more. Staggering slightly over her own paws, Kindleflare felt her fur heat up as some of the older warriors present chuckled softly, shaking their heads in a manner that said 'Typical Kindleflare'. The sudden urge to run to the elder's den overtook her, amber eyes flicking that way to see if she could spot Darkcloud or Firebird from within. Chewing uncertainly on the edge of her tongue, the LightningClan medicine cat was just inching toward the elder's den when a familiar figure caught her attention. The spectre-like form of her brother, Nightstep, emerged from the apprentice''s den, Cloudypaw at his side. M-Must be going to do some training... She thought to herself, ducking her head in hopes that he wouldn't notice her. Of course, observation was just one of the many things Nightstep was good at, and he looked at her with a curious narrowing of his gaze. She watched as he paused to speak briefly to his apprentice, who nodded and padded toward the entrance without him. And then he was at Kindleflare's side. "Kindleflare." He greeted with a softened smile, before that same questioning look returned to his features. "Are you not supposed to be joining Firestar in her den? I thought she'd requested your presence earlier this morning." She flinched, remembering that she'd been sharing prey with Nightstep when the LightningClan leader had called her over. The ginger and white healer glanced down at her paws quickly, trying to conjure up some form of a valid excuse for why she wasn't going, when instead she blurted out "I d-don't think I'm s-supposed to be there! Wh-Why would she want me there when she could have you! Y-Your so much s-smarter!" Nightstep's tail gently touched her shoulder then, and she snapped her jaws shut to stop anything else from escaping. "Firestar has many senior warriors older and much better versed in Clan life than myself at her disposal. She has but one medicine cat. In this situation, your title outweighs my experience, especially if she seeks to obtain as many varying opinions as she can. You are her connection to StarClan, Kindleflare. She will want to ensure that they are not opposed to her wishes. You are a valuable member of this meeting, whether you think so or not." Kindleflare's fur was warmed quickly by the gentleness behind his words. She always found herself surprised at the way Nightstep just seemed to know exactly what to say. Offering her brother a shy, but slightly less nervous smile, she nodded slowly. "You... You're r-right. You're always r-right. Thank you.." He dipped his head in acknowledgement, before nudging her. "Now go, Firestar is waiting." With renewed spring in her step, Kindleflare trotted toward the leader's den, pawsteps only faltering when the entrance loomed before her and the weight of it all settled back in. Remembering that Firestar had indicated she enter without requesting permission, the timid medicine cat cleared her throat if only to announce her presence. Ducking into the entryway, she blinked as her eyes adjusted to the new lighting, seeking out the form of LightningClan's figurehead within the den's dim lighting. "F-Firestar..." She mewed, dipping her muzzle in respect, before repeating the motion upon noticing the leader's mate was also present. "Russetf-fall".

Burningleaf padded into the camp at a brisk pace, golden eyes narrowed. He'd had to cut his hunting trip short when a young warrior had come to him with a message from Firestar, requesting his and his mate's presence in a meeting. There was a cold stone in his stomach and he had a pretty good feeling what the meeting would be about.

Dropping the vole in his jaws onto the fresh-kill pile, the senior warrior turned to look behind him. "Niko," he called. The coal-striped cat's ears flicked up immediately and pale blue eyes met bright gold. "Bring the rabbit you caught to the nursery, then check to see if the elders have eaten yet. If they haven't, fetch them something from the fresh-kill pile. Afterwards, you can rest and have something for yourself."

Niko gave a small nod and Burningleaf stepped forward, giving the young tom a few comforting licks between his ears. Niko was a perceptive young thing and had picked up on his adopted father's sour mood after the message had arrived, so even though he didn't know all the details, he still felt he had a good idea he was involved somehow. Niko gave a weak little purr at his father's gesture of comfort, and Burningleaf smiled. He pressed his nose into Niko's fur before whispering softly.

"I swear to you, we won't let her chase you away."

Niko huffed a small little sigh and ducked away from the senior warrior, heading to deposit his catch at the nursery. As much as he wanted to believe Burningleaf's words, he knew that if Firestar wanted to send him away, there was little his adoptive fathers could do to stop her.

Burningleaf watched his son walk away and heaved a great sigh; it hurt to see the young tom with such a heavy heart. Niko and his siblings were bright points in Burningleaf's life, but while Sunnypaw, Cloudypaw, and Galepaw were all adjusting nicely to Clan life, he could see poor little Niko trapped in the past and being left behind. His heart ached for the coal-striped kitten, but there was little he could do to ease the deep-set pain Niko felt at the loss of his mother. With another sigh, Burningleaf turned away, stalking off in search of his mate.

Unsurprisingly, Flashbrook was dozing in a small patch of sun. His old leg injury had been giving him much grief over the past season, and what little bit of warmth he could find tended to help. Approaching carefully, Burningleaf called out softly to his mate, trying to wake him gently. He smiled when Flashbrook's icy blue eyes opened and turned to him, and he stepped closer to nuzzle into the other male's fur, purring softly.

After a moment, he pulled away, the slight smile gone from his face. "Firestar's called a meeting of senior warriors, and requested our presence." He paused, hating having to say his next words. His voice dropped to little more than a whisper. "I think it's going to be about Niko."

Redscar wasn't unfamiliar with being summoned to meet with Firestar, as deputy it was actually something he had done many a time in the past. This instance seemed different however, Firestar had informed him to enter without asking permission. This may have seemed like a minor detail to focus in on however it quickly had Redscar's mind racing and he interpreted what it meant. Having decided it most likely indicated a group of cats had been invited his mind calmed as he began to speculate what the meeting would be in regards to. He could have asked when he was summoned of course, however it wasn't necessary in his mind as it didn't matter what Firestar summoned him for. As deputy, and a member of Lightningclan honestly, Redscar had a duty to his leader under the warrior code. The thoughts that had been filling his head left him as his paws arrived at the entrance to Firestars' den, following her instructions he entered. It only took a few moments for Redscars' eyes to begin to adjust to the light. The deputy took notice that he wasn't the first to arrive and dipped his head politely to the congregation of cats and hoping it would suffice for all of them.

Kindleflare's arrival had Firestar shifting away slightly from Russetfall. She greeted the young medicine cat with a polite nod. It wasn't common knowledge, but Firestar was glad that Rookfrost was gone. Even if that left them with just one fully trained medicine cat.

Firestar wondered for a brief moment if Kindleflare was interested in taking on apprentice, however, there remained no rush.

Redscar joined them shortly after and last to arrive with his limp very noticeable was Flashbrook and his mate Burningleaf. The parents of the cat they were all going to discuss. Firestar greeted the new arrivals with polite nods. It wasn't going to be easy but it had to be done.

"I'm sure you all know why I called you here today. The litter of kits that Burningleaf brought back are all of age to be made warriors. However, we have a slight problem with Niko. She paused for a moment attempting to read the faces of those in this small council.

"I'm not suggesting we make Niko leave, but if he doesn't agree to become a warrior of LightingClan and take on a new name, there isn't much left for him. We need to keep our traditions. I am open to further discussion," Firestar finished, her ears twitching slightly.

Flashbrook's reaction was to growl low in his throat, but he kept himself under control. He didn't need to upset anyone and certainly not Firestar. Instead he attempted to gain some comfort from his mate by pressing against him slightly.
