Name: Squirrelpaw - Squirrelfur
Age: 7 moons
Gender: Tom
Clan: RainClan
Rank: Apprentice
Picture:
Description:
If Squirrelpaw would only stop trying to make himself look smaller, the tom would actually look like a rather impressive specimen, with lean muscle showing through when he doesn't hunch over or crouch timidly to make his fur cover it. His dark brown fur is tawny and of a medium length, giving him a rather dishevelled appearance that he can't manage to shake no matter how much he may try to groom down the tufts, and underneath it all you would just about be able to make out black tabby markings. The tom's whiskers are unusually long, and his olive-green eyes are soft and caring, giving his features a gentle expression. His tail is darker than the majority of his fur, with dark highlights on the back and the end of it.
Description Summary:
Large tawny-furred medium fur-length brown tabby tom with olive-green eyes
Personality:
Squirrelpaw is a mild and timid tom who is quick to take something personally but would never dream of actually letting someone else know that he had had his feelings hurt. He tends to try to keep a low profile and not draw too much attention to himself, disliking being the centre of attention. Squirrelpaw has a quiet voice and is easily frightened, preferring solitary hunts, for which he shows promise due to a proficiency for patience and enjoyment of being alone. His timid nature makes him a rather poor fighter, and he gets easily pushed around by other cats if they choose to.
He becomes tongue tied easily, tripping over his words the second he gets a little nervous or flustered, but manages to piece himself together again when he feels comfortable and safe. He's a complete sweetheart when he feels comfortable enough to express himself, and loves to do small nice things for other cats without necessarily letting them know he was responsible.
History:
Squirrelkit was a quiet and small kitten, sickly and unwell for much of his early life. He was one of two kits, and the smallest of the litter, easily pushed around by his bigger sister Rabbitkit, who seemed to use him as a bit of a football in the nursery. He loved it though, enjoying the attention, and was never actually hurt by the romping, finding it funny and enjoyable. He grew to love his sister dearly, and deeply appreciated how Rabbitkit would stand up for him and protect him, looking up to her and idolising her. He would follow Rabbitkit around wherever she went like a dog on a lead.
As they grew closer to apprenticeship, Squirrelkit grew increasingly dependent on Rabbitkit, relying on her to stick up for him and as his main confidant. At five moons of age, just after the RainClan civil war, they sneaked out of camp and managed to get as far as the stream near camp. Rabbitkit came up with the bright idea that they should try swimming, which went about as well as anyone would expect. Luckily for her, Squirrelkit was too anxious to go first, and had the good sense to run back to camp for help when Rabbitkit started to struggle and flounder in the water, grasping desperately onto a branch to stop herself from being washed away.
Squirrelkit rushed through the undergrowth with his tail fluffed out like his namesake, wide-eyed and terrified to the point that he barely even saw Owlflight as he crashed headlong into her. The warrior had just been leaving camp to go hunting, and was met with Squirrelkit's petrified stuttering babble. He managed to get out his sister's plight though, and the pair careened back to the stream in time for Owlflight to drag Rabbitkit screaming and thrashing from the water, gulping at the air. She was shivering, fur flattened down like a drowned rat, but Squirrelkit was there for her the second Owlflight but her down, burying his face into her sopping wet shoulder. It was too much, and they both broke down into tears, making Owlflight feel incredibly awkward as she hovered over the pair.
The experience cemented their bond, one of reliance and loyalty. Rabbitkitkit wasSquirrelkit's crutch, his emotional support in times of need, and Squirrelkit was hers. The pair shivered together, looking up at Owlflight with worried expressions. They knew they were in serious trouble. The warrior, in return, raised a solitary brow before indicating the water once more.
"You are RainClan cats. I won't have you being afraid of water. Your punishment for this is that we are not going to leave here until I have seen both of you swim in the calm part of the stream."
The prospect was terrifying, but Owlflight was not one to give way and the kits were in a vulnerable state. Shivering and wide-eyed, they followed Owlflight to a gentle part of the stream. The grey tabby padded in, wading in just a little before gesturing with her tail. Rabbitkit whimpered, ears flat against her skull, and faltered at the water's edge, but Squirrelkit moved forward, his tail brushing comfortingly against her side as her wet his paws and looked back at her, the importance of his own role in her life having finally become clear to him. Not only did he get to rely on her, but he had to try and be strong for her too. The three waited in silence as Rabbitkit breathed deeply, before she finally waded out with her brother. The pair kept their tails on each other's shoulders, and Owlflight had them wade out until the water was up to their necks. She had them stand there until she was sure they were calm, standing next to them calmly herself, then finally walked them both home to camp and a whole lot of trouble. Owlflight reported what she had done however, so the two kits were given minimal telling off and it was mostly focused on Owlflight instead for attempting to traumatise kits. It worked however, as neither maintained a fear of water.
Apprenticeship offered new challenges in the form of separation, and the pair took it hard at first. Rabbitpaw began to obtain her confidence quickly, thriving in fighting training and starting to come into her own, but Squirrelpaw was quiet and lacked confidence without his sister there to stand up for him. As she grew increasingly independent, Squirrelpaw began to shrink into himself.
