Hawkstar
may your dreams be larger than mountains
Hawkstar let out a satisfied grumble as he stretched out his sore muscles. He'd returned to his den mid-afternoon, as the scavenger hunt he'd planned for the apprentices had wound down. He couldn't exactly speak for the poor young cats who'd been forced to run about the territory most of the day, but he'd thought it had been fun. He'd been forced to move around a little more than he'd planned, but it was good to get some exercise. It was also good to get some rest afterward. Most of the apprentices who'd taken part, as well as the warriors who'd helped him, had also retreated for a well-deserved nap.
Now evening had begun to settle in, the cooler night air descending upon the Clan. He could have easily remained here, wrapped up in Frozenrain's warmth as she lay beside him but he'd promised himself something. Something he knew would end the day on a perfect note. Nosing Frozenrain one last time to ensure she was up, he couldn't help but chuckle at her mumbled protests as his large paws carried him outside. Pausing momentarily to clear his throat, the StoneClan figurehead called out to his Clanmates.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Rock Pile for a Clan meeting!" As if on cue, his daughter shot out of the apprentice den, evidently ushering someone else from inside its depths. Chuckling softly to himself, he twitched his tail in amusement as he watched a string of apprentices file out of the den, their excitement tangible even from where he stood. The gentle touch of Frozenrain's tail against his flank drew his attention from the gathering cats momentarily, Hawkstar smiling to his mate before she climbed down the Rock Pile.
Before long, the throng of cats below him had swelled and he began again confidently. "The season is changing once more. Leafbare is receding and Newleaf approaches slowly. StoneClan has weathered the storm once more, and has stayed strong. And to remind us of that strength, two of our warriors recently approached me to share wonderful news. Hawkfall, Ospreywing, you have both worked tirelessly to pass on your knowledge to two aspiring StoneClan apprentices." He dipped his head to both toms, pride glittering behind his amber stare. A smile twitched the corners of his mouth as his focus shifted to two young she-cats.
"Honeypaw, Cricketpaw, please step forward." He could have sworn Herondive was more excited than the two apprentices. He noticed the way she nosed Honeypaw, seeming to vibrate on the spot. He stifled a laugh, focusing his attention on the two warriors to be. "I, Hawkstar, leader of StoneClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn." He straightened, amber orbs landing first on Cricketpaw. "Cricketpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
There was a weight to his words, an indication of the seriousness of his question, but the glow of pride never left his gaze. When the long-legged apprentice answered his question, he nodded his muzzle. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Cricketpaw, from this moment you will be known as Cricketspring. StarClan honors your integrity and your boundless enthusiasm, and we welcome you as a full warrior of StoneClan." His tail signaled for silence as he shifted his eyes to the second apprentice.
"Honeypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" He regarded Honeypaw with the same proud intensity he'd given her sister, pausing to hear her reply. His ear flicked as her voice greeted his ears, and he dipped his head to her in turn. "Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Honeypaw, from this moment you will be known as Honeynose. StarClan honors your compassion and your attention to detail, and we welcome you as a full warrior of StoneClan."
With his piece said, he flicked his tail to the rest of the Clan, freeing them of their silence. He wasn't surprised to see Herondive leap up from her seated position beside Hazelpaw to call out enthusiastically. "Cricketspring! Honeynose!" He grinned as the Clan's voices joined in, his eyes resting momentarily on his own apprentice. You'll join them soon, Hazelpaw. He thought. With a flick of his ears, he scaled down the Rock Pile to congratulate the new apprentices. That is... If Herondive will let me close enough to do so. He thought with an amused smile.
