Hawkstar
may your dreams be larger than mountains
Those with a keen focus and an early-bird tendency might have noticed something peculiar about the sandy-hued figurehead of StoneClan early that morning. The broad-shouldered tom had been busy since dawn, ducking into the warriors' den, only to emerge sometime later with a warrior on his tail. He would lead the chosen warrior up the Rock Pile to his den, and camp would be still once more. Eventually, he would reemerge, exchanging final pleasantries with the warrior in question before they would part ways. The strange pattern continued several times, each with a different warrior accompanying him.
Finally, he seemed content, for the great tabby tom remained atop his perch, pale amber eyes surveying the Clan as it awoke. Cats milled about, flicking in and out of camp at their leisure as the sun's rays glittered on the morning frost. He could see the relief written in the set of his Clan's shoulders; Leafbare was relenting, and with it prey would return to StoneClan. A cloud of steam danced in the morning air as Hawkstar breathed, waiting on the perfect moment. He seemed to find what he'd been waiting for as Larkflutter, one of StoneClan's senior warriors padded by the base of the Rock Pile.
With a call of her name and a beckoning of his tail, he signaled for her to approach. A near kit-like excitement glittered behind his patient amber gaze as he dipped his head in greeting to her. "Good morning, Larkflutter. I hope all is well with you this morning?" He inquired, smiling politely. The senior warrior purred pleasantly, nodding her head. "It is a good morning indeed, Hawkstar. The sun has returned, and it seems as though Leafbare is receding." His initial response was a knowing sound, pale tail flicking thoughtfully behind him.
"And we can only hope Newleaf brings with it good fortune and prey." He paused, allowing her to nod her agreement, before beginning again. "If I may intrude on your morning activities, would you mind gathering up the apprentices for me, as many of them as you can find?" Larkflutter blinked curiously, a slight smile flicking over her features. "It's no trouble at all. Planning something, are you?" She teased, to which he chuckled. "Me? Never." Thanking her for her trouble, the tabby tom watched as she disappeared back down the Rock Pile and into the apprentice's den.
Pale eyes drifted toward two groups of cats sitting at opposite ends of the camp. To the unknowing eye, it would simply come off as warriors of differing ages chatting to one another; a gathering of friends. In each group, however, one warrior seemed to be paying careful attention to the StoneClan leader. Just a little longer... He thought, watching as Larkflutter backed out of the den, followed by the first of StoneClan's younger faces. It was as a second pair of eyes emerged from the apprentice den that Hawkstar's tail lifted, and his pale amber gaze met the eyes of one warrior at either side of the camp and he nodded ever so slightly.
Though his eyes settled on the apprentices as they approached hesitantly, Hawkstar was aware of the first group of warriors padding to the camp entrance. The second patrol-like group followed after about a minute, while the StoneClan figurehead gathered the attention of the younger cats with a sweep of his tail and a reassuring smile. "Apprentices! I've spoken to each of your mentors, and have received their permission to occupy each of you for the morning. I can see from your faces that some of you are still asleep on your paws."
He teased with a sly grin, his tail dancing slowly behind him as he clambered down from the Rock Pile to stand on their level. "Well, it's time to shake your tails! Get rid of the grogginess, and have a little fun. The sun is out, there's even grass to be found if you look hard enough. But grass isn't the only thing you should be on the lookout for. I've asked a pawful of your Clanmates to hide out in pairs somewhere in StoneClan. Each one will require something from you, perhaps an item, perhaps an answer. You'll have to find them and see."
He paused a moment, looking at each of them in turn. "Yes, I'm sending you on a scavenger hunt across the territory. This will not only test your knowledge of StoneClan's home; it will exercise your mind and your body. I expect you to use all your training, and although this is meant to be fun, safety should be your number one priority. Remember, your Clanmates are all on StoneClan territory. You have no reason to cross any borders. You may choose to work alone, in pairs, in a large group; it is entirely up to you. If you have any questions, or can't remember a clue, you may return to the last Clanmate you visited, or return to me here."
With a final smile, he straightened. "I suppose you need your first clue if you are to get started, hm? Listen closely then! Your next clue will come from a warrior who shares something in common with me. Though we are birds of a feather, much closer in age to you is she. Your friend can be found on level ground colored like my fur. Should you need one more hint, the prey there is known to slither." He concluded, stepping back with a playful grin. "Good luck!"
